Two men were shot outside of Mount Auburn Hospital last night in Cambridge, police said.
The shooting happened in the 300 block of Mount Auburn Street about 9:57 p.m.
Police said both victims suffered “serious” injuries. Circumstances of the shooting were unclear. Police did not say whether they had a suspect.
“This is a very active and open investigation,” a police statement said. “Anyone with any information related to this incident is asked to call Cambridge police at 617-349-3300. The investigation into this incident is ongoing. “
Cambridge police and fire responded to the scene.
Police blocked off a large section of Mount Auburn Street as they carried out their investigation.
An MBTA bus that happened upon the shooting after police already arrived was stopped and roped into the crime scene because police told the driver that there could be evidence underneath it, a passenger said.
Those passengers were transferred onto another bus that arrived about 30 minutes later.
None said they witnessed what happened. Many thought that there had been a car crash.
