TV Judge Judy's Son Charged With Cover-up Of Child Sex Crimes

[From article]
It has since emerged that Hossu, who is originally from Romania, is allegedly an illegal immigrant after outstaying his visa - despite working for one of New York's top lawyers.
Levy, the son of television personality 'Judge' Judy Scheindlin, has come under fire for employing Hossu, 35, and giving him accommodation at his million-dollar house in Putnam, New York.
He has vehemently denied knowing about Hossu's immigration status and has become embroiled in a public scrap over the accusations with the sheriff of the county.
Hossu was charged last week with two counts of first-degree rape after the 15-year-old daughter of a friend told a school counselor she had been sexually abused by him when she was 12.

Maoist UK Sect Benefits From Wealthy Inheritance, Woman Dead After Suspicious Fall

[From article]
Sian Davies received thousands of pounds when her father Alun died in 1970 - but apparently spent most of it on funding the far-Left movement based in South London.
When she died, she had just £5 in her bank account and her only possession was a stash of Marxist literature, according to reports.
It has also been claimed that Ms Davies' family, from whom she was enstranged, were so worried about her being exploited that they froze her bank account.
She died in 1997 after breaking her neck when she fell from a window at the building in Brixton where she was living with cult leader Aravindan Balakrishnan and his other followers.

Redistributing Wealth A Form of Slavery

[From article]
What the positive rights tyrants want but won't articulate is the power to forcibly use one person to serve the purposes of another. After all, if one person does not have the money to purchase food, housing or medicine and if Congress provides the money, where does it get the money? It takes it from some other American, forcibly using that person to serve the purposes of another. Such a practice differs only in degree, but not kind, from slavery.

One of the best peace speeches I ever read was one delivered back in the 1930s -- by Adolf Hitler! Small Business Sues Over First Amendment Violation Of Obamacare

[From article]
As Lori Windham, senior counsel for the Becket Fund for Religious Liberty, which is representing Hobby Lobby in its court battles, said at the time: "Washington politicians cannot force families to abandon their faith just to earn a living. Every American, including family business owners like the Greens, should be free to live and do business according to their religious beliefs." Amen.
This summer, the 10th Circuit Court of Appeals exempted Hobby Lobby from the abortion mandate and allowed the business to avoid those crippling fines while pursuing its case. Now, the Supreme Court will decide whether Democratic Party pandering trumps bedrock constitutional principles.

Respect for Constitution and Laws Essential for Democracy

[From article]
What distinguishes an institution from a flash mob is that its rules endure. They can be changed, of course. But only by significant supermajorities. That’s why constitutional changes require two-thirds of both houses plus three-quarters of the states. If we could make constitutional changes by majority vote, there would be no Constitution.
As of today, the Senate effectively has no rules. Congratulations, Harry Reid. Finally, something you will be remembered for.

In terms of preventing Iran from obtaining a nuclear bomb, this deal accomplishes identically nothing. Iran promises to dilute its stockpile of 20% enriched uranium that we know about. Florida Teens Brutally Beat and Gang Rape 16-year-old Woman

[From article]
Prosecutors presented the teens' cellphone videos as chilling evidence in court. They argued that two girls charged in the assault were too dangerous to be freed pending trial even though juveniles tried as adults normally are entitled to bond.
After Circuit Judge Lisa Porter retreated to her chambers for 20 minutes to watch the recording, she returned to the bench and described what she saw on the video.
It was 'depraved and sick,' unlike almost anything else she has seen during her time on the bench, she said.

Three others, Dwayne Henry, 17, of Hollywood; Lanel Singleton, 18, of North Miami; and Woolfork, 19, all face charges of capital felony sexual assault and kidnapping. They remain jailed pending their next court hearings.

But then she began describing the video of the crime, detailing how the victim pleaded with them to stop as she held her arms over her face to protect herself from their unrelenting blows.
‘The cruelty shown on this video . . . this was repeated over and over again . . . The girls are trying to remove her bra. You saw the victim sitting on the toilet crying, her face blown up and swollen from injuries, and then they beat her,’ Schneider said.
[. . .]
The victim claims that she was kicked, thrown down stairs and had her face smashed on concrete, breaking bones near both her eyes.
Judge Hurley said: 'This 16-year-old woman, both of her eyes were closed from being beaten, she had blood coming from one of her ears.
[. . .]
According to the police report, the girl was watching TV and listening to music when Montes and Avery suddenly grabbed her, pinned her down and began kicking her in the head.
They taunted her, called her names and told her that they would continue to beat her until she agreed to have sex with a 19-year-old man who lived in the house.
The girl refused, and Montes, Avery and three others continued to beat her, telling her that they wouldn’t let up until she complied, the report said. They then dragged her by her hair into a bedroom, where they stripped her of her clothes and the 19-year-old, identified as Jayvon Woolfork, raped her, it said.

Dark Internet

[From article]
It works by bouncing messages around several computers before they reach their final destination. The Tor network — which its founders liken to a series of ‘virtual tunnels’ — has 3,200 volunteers around the world who allow their computers to be used to send these messages.
Once users have downloaded some free software from the Tor website, they are ready to begin surfing — or selling things — with impunity.
Each message that is sent has several layers of encryption which are peeled away like the skins of an onion as it moves from computer to computer.
These reveal the next destination of the communication (which could be a file, web page, message, picture and so on), without showing its content as it is passed along the chain.
This means it is impossible to establish the identities or locations of the people at either end of the chain, or to see what they are talking about, selling, swapping or sharing.
[. . .]
Contrary to what you may imagine, the Tor Project — the body which provides the Tor network — is a highly respected organisation partly funded by Cambridge University, the U.S. State Department, the Swedish government and other organisations campaigning for liberty and free speech.
Based in Massachusetts, the Project is dedicated to electronic privacy and the rights of people to use the internet without being snooped on or tracked by intelligence agencies or companies.

Unions Need More Money To Live Better Lives

Here's one more attempt by the teachers unions to steal more taxpayer money. One would think that the mission of teachers unions is to protect the jobs of teachers and to prevent abuses of teachers. But the unions are trying to persuade taxpayers that their objective in this matter is to improve education, learning of students. That may conflict with the interests of teachers. But what is happening is one more effort to increase the membership base of the unions top increase the cash money dues paid to the unions. The unions give, invest is an appropriate word here, some of the dues as campaign contributions to politicians and make up a story that whatever they want will improve education and that it is for the children. After getting campaign money politicians are usually amenable to whatever their benefactors desire. They are willing to increase the size of the bureaucracy in the schools so that the unions can have more income to improve the standard of living of the unions leaders. It is a fast moving money laundering system. Taxpayers pay for more school bureaucracy, which pays more dues to the unions, who give more money to the politicians. And where and when does education improve?

Canadian Scandals

[From article]
Most unnerving is Quebec, Canada’s Tammany Hall. Since 2011, a government commission has been investigating the awarding and management of public contracts. Its findings have led to the resignation in 2012 of the mayor of Canada’s second-largest city, Montreal; the arrest in 2013 of his replacement; the arrest in 2013 of nearby Laval’s mayor for “gangsterism” and criminal charges against two more small-town mayors.
In addition, Quebec’s anti-corruption squad has arrested 49 people and laid criminal charges against 13 companies.
“Acts of collusion and corruption exist everywhere in Quebec — in every region. Our investigations are proving this to us,” said Robert Lafreniere, head of the squad.
There are 20 more ongoing investigations outside the construction industry, he added, involving contracts for computer technology and work related to an ambitious scheme to develop mining, tourism and infrastructure in the province’s far north.

Obama's Dependency Policies Encourage Black Teen Attacks on White People

[From article]
“And, again, it comes to the fundamental question, are we going to promote an opportunity society or are we going to promote a dependency society?” West asked. “What is the problem if we head down this road? You're going to have more Detroits. And think about what Detroit used to be. Think about what Detroit used to look like. And guess what? You have this—and this is something that is absolutely driving me crazy, this knockout game.”
West noted that many of those teens involved in the knockout game would have, in his day, had jobs in their towns and would not be engaged in this behavior. Although no president has even a line-item veto power (which 44 governors have), this president asserts the power to revise the language of laws by “enforcement discretion,” and suggests no limiting principle.
But even this is a crisis only if Congress makes it so by supine acquiescence. Congressional Democrats are White House poodles. They also are progressives and therefore disposed to favor unfettered executive power. Republicans are supposed to be different.*

Government Continues to Mislead Taxpayers

[From article]
The economics specialty that reveals this is known as the incidence of taxation. The burden of a tax is not necessarily borne by the party upon whom it is levied. The Joint Committee on Taxation held that "both the employee's and employer's share of the payroll tax is borne by the employee." The Congressional Budget Office "assumes — as do most economists — that employers' share of payroll taxes is passed on to employees in the form of lower wages than would otherwise be paid." Health insurance is not an employer gift, either.
Another part of Social Security and Medicare deception is that the taxes are officially called FICA, which stands for Federal Insurance Contributions Act. First, it's not an insurance program. More importantly, the word "contribution" implies something voluntary. Its synonyms are alms, benefaction, beneficence, charity, donation and philanthropy. Which one of those synonyms comes close to describing how Congress gets Social Security and Medicare money from us?

Misguided Liberal Priorities

[From article]
The last thing the political left needs, or can even afford, are self-reliant individuals. If such people became the norm, that would destroy not only the agenda and the careers of those on the left, but even their flattering image of themselves as saviors of the less fortunate.
Victimhood is where it's at. If there are not enough real victims, then fictitious victims must be created — as with the claim that there is "a war on women." Why anyone would have an incentive or a motivation to create a war on women in the first place is just one of the questions that should be asked of those who promote this political slogan, obviously designed for the gullible.
[. . .]
What would happen if Americans in general, or blacks in particular, started celebrating people like this armless young man, instead of trying to make heroes out of hoodlums? Many of us would find that promising and inspiring. But it would be a political disaster for the left — which is why it is not likely to happen.

Many aspects of these crimes are extremely painful to think about, including the fact that responsible authorities in New York seem to have been caught by surprise, even though this "knockout game" has been played for years by young black gangs in other cities and other states, against people besides Jews — the victims being either whites in general or people of Asian ancestry.
Attacks of this sort have been rampant in St. Louis. But they have also occurred in Massachusetts, Wisconsin and elsewhere. In Illinois the game has often been called "Polar Bear Hunting" by the young thugs, presumably because the targets are white.

Laws Useless When People Ignore Them

Policemen and laws can never replace these restraints on personal conduct.”

Legislative majorities are here today and gone tomorrow, but legislative mechanisms are supposed to be here today and here tomorrow and here next year. If a transient party majority can change the rules on a single, sudden, party-line vote, than there are no rules. The rules are simply what today’s rulers say they are. After all, banana republics and dictatorships pass their own rules, too – to deny opposition politicians access to airtime, or extend their terms by another two or three years, or whatever takes their fancy.

More Racism From White House

[From article]
On Friday, while defending the beleaguered Common Core program in a meeting with state school superintendents, Duncan unleashed a brazen race and class warfare attack on grassroots foes. As The Washington Post reported, Duncan sneered that he found it "fascinating" that the revolt came from "white suburban moms who — all of a sudden — their child isn't as brilliant as they thought they were, and their school isn't quite as good as they thought they were."
As a brown-skinned suburban mom opposed to Common Core, I can tell you I've personally met moms and dads of all races, ethnicities, backgrounds and parts of the country over the past year who have sacrificed to get their kids into the best schools possible. They are outraged that dumbed-down, untested federal "standards" pose an existential threat to their excellent educational arrangements — be they public, private, religious or homeschooling.
[. . .]
A textbook liberal racist, Duncan whitewashes all minority parents and educators who oppose Common Core out of the debate.
This is a White House war on uppity women and children of all colors. Duncan's a bigot, a bully, an elitist and a foot-in-mouth fool all rolled into one — and he continues to enjoy the support of the president.

No-History, Smartest Man In The Room, Obama Makes It All Up

[From article]
But there is no record that Obama or his lieutenants had ever publicly said such a thing. The president's attempt to airbrush history is similar to the commandments on the barn wall in George Orwell's "Animal Farm." One day the commandment "All Animals are Equal" mysteriously appears rewritten with a new qualifier beside it, as if it had been there all along: "All animals are equal -- but some animals are more equal than others."
[. . .]
The administration has also downplayed the disaster by claiming that the more than 30 million who lost their coverage represent only "5 percent" of the insured. But even if that number is not far too low, try using that minority percentage argument on issues like gay rights. If millions of gays represent only about 5 percent of the population, is federal policy that affects gays negatively not really that important?

Elaborate Immigration Bill Indicates Out of Control Politicians

[From article]
The bill, which Rubio helped to write, is 1,197 pages long.
It is 1,193 pages longer than the National Archive’s parchment copy of the Homestead Act of 1862, which is one of the most important legislative acts in U.S. history. Passed when there were few national laws regulating immigration, the Homestead Act was designed to attract immigrants to settle the continent’s interior.
Today’s Senate bill is gigantic because it deals with everything. Its size is proportional to Washington’s serene confidence that it knows everything. What should be the hourly wage of an agricultural sorter in 2016? The Senate bill (through an explanation given on page 318) says $9.84. And the hourly wage of a worker in a nursery? Twenty cents less than the agricultural sorter’s wage. Some senators know everything.

Misguided Liberals Believe They Can Spend Other People's Money Better

[From article]
Warren, a scourge of (other) economic royalists and especially of large financial institutions, is a William Jennings Bryan for our time: She has risen from among Harvard’s downtrodden to proclaim: “You shall not crucify mankind upon a cross of derivatives.”
Before she sank to a senator’s salary, she was among the 1 percenters, whose annual incomes now begin at $394,000. Hillary Clinton recently made more than that from two speeches, five days apart, for Goldman Sachs, a prowling Wall Street carnivore that Warren presumably wants to domesticate. Between Warren, hot in pursuit of malefactors of great wealth, and Clinton, hot in pursuit of great wealth, which candidate would be more fun for the kind of people who compose the Democrats’ nominating electorate?
[Hillary Clinton] explained her health-care plan this way (a delicious quotation excavated by the Wall Street Journal’s Holman Jenkins):
“We just think people will be too focused on saving money and they won’t get the care for their children and themselves that they need. . . . The money has to go to the federal government because the federal government will spend that money better.”

Misguided Control Freaks In White House, Washington DC

[From article]
The biggest challenges in any system, whether it's an economic, biological or ecological system, are information, communication and control.
[. . .]
Oblivious to the huge information problem in the allocation of resources, the people in Washington have great confidence that they can run our health care system better than we, our physicians and hospitals. Charles Darwin wisely noted more than a century and a half ago that "ignorance more frequently begets confidence than does knowledge." Congress exudes confidence.

Politicians really don't care about what Joe thinks is best, because they arrogantly think they know what's best and have the power to coerce.
Hayek said, "The curious task of economics is to illustrate to men how little they really know about what they imagine they can design." We economists have failed miserably in that task.

Surveillance Systems Being Sold Worldwide

Private firms are selling spying tools and mass surveillance technologies to developing countries with promises that "off the shelf" equipment will allow them to snoop on millions of emails, text messages and phone calls, according to a cache of documents published on Monday.
The papers show how firms, including dozens from Britain, tout the capabilities at private trade fairs aimed at offering nations in Africa, Asia and the Middle East the kind of powerful capabilities that are usually associated with government agencies such as GCHQ and its US counterpart, the National Security Agency.

Black Racist Still Employed At Dept. of Homeland Security

[From article]
The black-nationalist Department of Homeland Security employee who was placed on leave almost four months ago for running a website that espouses the mass murder of whites has still not been fired, an agency spokesperson told National Journal.
The Southern Poverty Law Center first exposed Ayo Kimathi in August, prompting a small media firestorm that led DHS to place the procurement officer on administrative leave with pay pending review. DHS deputy press secretary Gillian Christensen confirmed that his status has not changed and that he is still on leave pending review.
Kimathi, using the online nom de guerre "the Irritated Genie," called for "ethnic cleansing" of "black-skinned Uncle Tom race traitors" on his website, which envisioned a massive race war on the horizon. "In order for Black people to survive the 21st century, we are going to have to kill a lot of whites—more than our Christian hearts can possibly count," he wrote.

Republicans Tried To Prevent Loss of Insurance Under New Health Care Law

It was a regulation written by President Obama, three months later.'

During a brief debate, Iowa Republican Sen. Obama Has Right On His Side. Laws Are No Longer Essential

[From article]
What is the common denominator of the Obama administration’s serial scandals [. . .] In a word: the advancement of postmodern notions of justice at the expense of traditional truth.
[. . .]
The true became the advocacy of fairness, while the real lie was the reactionary adherence to a set of oppressive norms. All this was faculty-lounge fluff, but soon it filtered out into the larger culture.
[. . .]
In the postmodern world of the New York Times and Barack Obama, again, “truth” is a relative concept.
[. . .]
If ACA navigators on occasion have urged poor applicants to fudge on their eligibility, what is the big deal?
[. . .]
As Obama put it, “So the majority of folks will end up being better off, of course, because the website’s not workin’ right, they don’t necessarily know it.”
[. . .]
When U.N. Ambassador Susan Rice lied five times on national television about the Benghazi deaths, followed by Hillary Clinton over the coffins of the dead men and yet again by Barack Obama at the United Nations, they were not really telling untruths.
[. . .]
Right and wrong, like truth and lies, are calcified concepts in service to a rigged world of discrimination. [. . .] These are details that pale in comparison to the larger picture of social justice:
[. . .]
Does anyone deny that James Rosen works for Fox News and that Fox News opposes social justice?
[. . .]
If Obama wanted Guantanamo closed, then it is virtually closed.
[. . .]
To obsessive-compulsive accountants, perhaps the Pigford agricultural payouts were fraudulent, but who can deny that many of the poor recipients might have wished to farm?
[. . .]
The Left, which cares for humanity and strives for fairness and equality, has earned the moral right of exemption from one-dimensional truth. The Right, which focuses on the liberty of the selfish individual to do what he pleases against the collective interest, has not.
[. . .]
If the laws that enhance privileges of race and class are “broken,” then that is to the good, given the greater issues of social justice at stake.

Obama Acts As If He Is King

[From article]
On Thursday [November 14, 2013, Obama] passed a new law at a press conference. George III never did that. But, having ordered America’s insurance companies to comply with Obamacare, the president announced that he is now ordering them not to comply with Obamacare.
[. . .]
But Obama is the first to order that his omelet be unscrambled and the eggs put back in their original shells. Is this even doable? No. That’s the point. When it doesn’t work, he’ll be able to give another press conference blaming the insurance companies, or the state commissioners, or George W Bush

Tea Party Ordinary Concerned Citizens, Threat To Socialist Promoters

[From article]
There is no question that the principles of anyone who believes in the freedom of American citizens from arbitrary government dictates like ObamaCare — unauthorized by anything in the Constitution and forbidden by the 10th Amendment — must oppose this quantum leap forward in the expansion of the power of government.
There is nothing ambiguous about the principle. The only question is about the tactics,

Tea Party at the Crossroads
By Thomas Sowell

[From article]
Like ObamaCare, Prohibition sounded good to a lot of people before it went into effect. Only after they saw what a disaster it was in practice did people change their minds.
We are already seeing people changing their minds about ObamaCare, after they experienced the multiple disasters that are just starting to emerge. That includes Congressional Democrats who had voted for it.
[. . .]
Friend and foe alike see the Tea Party as not just a bunch of politicians trying to stay in office, but people with a purpose beyond going along to get along. The left's desperate — and dishonest — efforts to discredit the Tea Party show that they understand its threat to their expanding government agenda.
[. . .]
There are millions of Americans today who are losing their insurance and their doctor — and who may also lose everything financially to identity thieves, if ObamaCare is as careless with their private information as early reports indicate. These Americans are infinitely more important than internal battles among Republicans.

Health Care Ads Misleading, Appeal to Base Instincts of Youth

[From article]
It's bad enough that these idiocracy-targeted ads reduce young people to perpetually partying boozers and traffic-bait boobs. But what's truly toxic is the ad campaign's cynical feint to draw attention away from Obamacare's undeniable harm to responsible young people. Brosurance and Hosurance are trifling distractions from the federal law's Nosurance consequences. Insurers started dropping child-only plans in Colorado, California, Ohio and Missouri in 2010 thanks to Obamacare-induced premium increases. Colleges across the country have canceled low-cost plans for students because of Obamacare rules. Thanks to the Obamacare mandate, young, healthy Americans face higher insurance premiums, decreased work hours and perverse incentives to enroll in Medicaid instead of remaining independent and off the dole.

Hate Speech Higher Priority Than Homicides

[From article]
The Kimmel kerfuffle is worthy of a Monty Python skit, but also typical of the surreal theater of offense-taking in contemporary America. Are we, in such matters, a ridiculous country? One that encourages a sense of victimhood and grievance? One that lacks any sense of proportion? Yes, yes and yes.

Obama's Health Care Law Impossible to Implement

[From article]
Obama’s promise on insurance wasn’t just injudicious, it was completely impossible. It wasn’t an incidental falsehood but ran counter to the central premise of his own health care law. People losing their current insurance isn’t an unintended consequence of the law; it is an intended consequence without which much of the law doesn’t work.
[. . .]
Its strategy is always based, at bottom, on spin and muddling through. These are the same people who believe they possess the administrative mastery to run highly complex laws remaking swaths of the American economy.

Obama Weakens International Standing Of United States

[From article]
Neutrals and enemies alike assumed that it was as unwise to be on the wrong side of America as it was beneficial to be on friendly terms.
The Obama administration apparently has tired of the global order that American power created. The president seems determined that America should become unexceptional, and his five-year-long efforts are now bearing fruit. The result is that no one knows where global violence will break out next, much less who will stop it.

Wikipedia Unreliable Research Resource

It’s easy to laugh off the Big Apple howlers. But millions take Wikipedia as gospel on more challenging subjects, from Kenya’s Mau Mau war to nuclear fission, which can’t be checked with a stroll around the block. What a travesty for journalism, for education and for what we once called “knowledge.”

Two Harvard University Drug Tests on Prisoners

Concord Prison Experiment
The Concord Prison Experiment was designed to evaluate whether the experiences produced by the psychoactive drug psilocybin, derived from psilocybin mushrooms, combined with psychotherapy, could inspire prisoners to leave their antisocial lifestyles behind once they were released. How well it worked was to be judged by comparing the recidivism rate of subjects who received psilocybin with the average for other Concord inmates.

Marsh Chapel Experiment
The round window above the altar at Boston University's Marsh Chapel
The Marsh Chapel Experiment (a.k.a. "the Good Friday Experiment") was a 1962 experiment conducted on Good Friday at Boston University's Marsh Chapel. Walter N. Pahnke, a graduate student in theology at Harvard Divinity School, designed the experiment under the supervision of Timothy Leary and the Harvard Psilocybin Project.[1] Pahnke's experiment investigated whether psilocybin (the active principle in psilocybin mushrooms) would act as a reliable entheogen in religiously predisposed subjects.[2]

Criminals Preying On Elders Using Obamacare

[From article]
Among the survey's respondents, 10% say they or someone they know has been the victim of a health-care fraud. Ms. Greisman says in many instances, con artists claim—falsely—that the ACA requires Medicare beneficiaries to buy a new policy or Medicare card. Often, they pose as a representative of Medicare or an insurer and ask for personal financial information, such as a Social Security or bank-account number.
[. . .]
Advocates say consumers shouldn't divulge any information to unsolicited callers or visitors and should be skeptical of Caller ID, which can be manipulated. Those who are approached should file complaints with the FTC (, local law enforcement, and their state's attorney general and insurance department, says John Breyault, a vice president of public policy at the National Consumers League. They can also call the U.S. Senate Special Committee on Aging's new fraud hotline at 855-303-9470.

Federal Databases Available To Local Police, and To Public

[From article]
As Seattle perfects its massive surveillance system, the technology is likely to replicate nation-wide as more and more mesh network nodes pop up across major cities. While these networks could positively benefit certain first responders, the federal government’s involvement gives extra assurance that the system will be used against law-abiding Americans, as it already has.
With Homeland Security’s blatant targeting of peaceful American citizens, such as their labeling of military veterans as the number one terror threat, opposition to the illegal spy grid takeover has become more essential than ever.

OK For Black People To Use Hate Speech, White People Should Mind Their Own Business

[From article]
Charles Barkley admitted Thursday to using racial slurs with his friends.
Commenting on Los Angeles Clippers’ Matt Barnes using the “N” word on Twitter and the Miami Dolphins bullying investigation on TNT’s “Inside the NBA,” Barkley stated he will continue to use the racial slur around his friends and that white people should not dictate how he talks.
“I’m a black man. I use the ‘N’ word,” Barkley said. “I’m going to continue to use the ‘N’ word with my black friends, with my white friends. They are my friends.”

Robots Will Read Your Mind

[From article]
Ralescu's work eventually could be used in conjunction with another project being presented at HuCeRo by UC's Gaurav Mukherjee, a master's student in mechanical engineering in UC's College of Engineering and Applied Science (CEAS), and Grant Schaffner, an assistant professor in UC's Department of Aerospace Engineering and Engineering Mechanics. Mukherjee and Schaffner designed and built a spring-assisted leg exoskeleton that can help people with impaired mobility. By integrating Ralescu's brain-computer interface into the exoskeleton, someone using the device could think, "I'm going to stand," and they'd receive a robotic boost as they rose to their feet.

Bulger Trial Missed Opportunity to Expose Police and FBI Corruption

[From article]
Had Bulger testified, Wyshak said, “I would have walked him through all the charges in the indictment, all the murders and extortions. I would have asked about his relationships with John Connolly and John Morris, and other corrupt law enforcement agents. It would have been about exposing people who have been hiding in the shadows all these years. The statute of limitations may have run out on some, but we’re all about exposing wrongdoing and achieving justice.”
[. . .]
Make no mistake, it takes no business acumen to take money from folks on the other side of a gun.’’

Mr. Wyshak may be sincere in his desire to expose corrupt officials who enabled Bulger's reign of terror. But the failure of the Justice Department to investigate fully the criminal abuses and malfeasance indicated that the government attorneys did not want to expose all of the corruption. John Durham's fantasy that only Connolly was a problem made it clear they were  unwilling to investigate the police and the FBI thoroughly.
It is not only Bulger who steals money using guns. The IRS does the same thing with more firepower than  Bulger could ever assemble.
