Later media analysis including a Friday July 8, 2016 ABC news 20/20 special narrated by David Muir, focused on the shootings of black men in Minnesota and Louisiana earlier that week. Without knowing the details of those shootings, Muir and Micah Johnson, the Dallas shooter blamed all white policemen and all white men for racism. Using that same logic because some black men shoot white policemen all black men may be used as targets for white policemen and white men in general. Is that how this will play out? Journalists emphasize the flawed logic of misguided shooters and do not appear to understand where their thinking went wrong. It encourages others to take up arms to kill for revenge. It is an extension of affirmative action, which rewards black people who suffered no harm and punishes white people who did no wrong. How does that play out? Does it encourage love and respect between races? Huh?

Dallas police were locked in a standoff early Friday after snipers shot 11 officers, five fatally, during a protest over recent shootings in Minnesota and Louisiana.
Three people were in custody and a fourth suspect exchanged gunfire with authorities in a parking garage downtown, Dallas Police Chief David Brown said.
The remaining suspect "has told our negotiators that the end is coming, and he is going to hurt and kill more of us, meaning law enforcement, and that there are bombs all over the place in this garage and downtown," Brown said.
At least two snipers fired from an elevated positions on police officers minutes before 9 p.m. CT, according to Brown. He described the shootings as "ambush style."
"We believe that these suspects were positioning themselves in a way to triangulate on these officers from two different perches in garages in the downtown area, and planned to injure and kill as many law enforcement officers as they could," he told a news conference — noting that some were shot in the back.
Brown said police don't have a motivation for the attacks or any information on the suspects.
There may be other suspects at large. "We still don't have a complete comfort level that we have all the suspects," Brown said. Police were in contact with the FBI and federal Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives, Brown said.
"There had to be some speculation from us there would be some knowledge of the [demonstration] route," he said.
Brown said investigators are working under the assumption that all the suspects were working together. They have not been cooperative, he said. "We just are not getting the cooperation we'd like to know that answer of why, the motivation, who they are."
Four of the five slain officers were Dallas police, and the fifth was a Dallas Area Rapid Transit officer. A civilian was also wounded, authorities said.
Around 800 people were at the demonstration, and around 100 police officers were assigned to the event and the surrounding area, Dallas Mayor Mike Rawlings said. The shooting occurred after the demonstration ended and as a march was taking place.
"At 8:58, our worst nightmare happened," Rawlings said. "It is a heartbreaking moment for the city of Dallas, Rawlings said.
A person at the protest said they were "making our second lap" when gunfire erupted.
"We heard shots, we smelled gunpowder, and that's when everything got really intense and surreal," the witness told MSNBC. "We just started to run and grab kids," he said.
The demonstration was in reaction to the police shootings of two black men, Alton Sterling in Baton Rouge Tuesday and Philando Castile Wednesday in a St. Paul suburb.
Texas Gov. Greg Abbott directed the state Department of Public Safety to offer any assistance needed. "In times like this we must remember — and emphasize — the importance of uniting as Americans," Abbott said in a statement.
Thursday night, Dallas police distributed a photo of a man they called a "person of interest." The person in that photo turned himself in, police said. It does not appear he was part of the four suspects later mentioned by Brown.

A witness who didn't give his name told MSNBC-TV that his group was making a second lap of the event when gunfire erupted.
"We heard shots, we smelled gunpowder, and that's when everything got really intense and surreal," the man said. "We just started to run and grab kids."

A woman who also didn't give her name told NBC Dallas Fort Worth: "We were leaving, and when we turned, there was cops. They were patrolling. Then, all of a sudden, you've seen them just fall."
Renee Sifflet told The Dallas Morning News that she took her three teenage children to the rally "for a positive experience, something they could say they were part of when they're older."
"Then it turned negative," Sifflet said.
Carlos Harris told the newspaper that the shooters "were strategic. It was tap tap pause. Tap tap pause."

Eleven police officers were shot ambush-style, including five fatally, in Dallas Thursday night by at least two snipers, amid a protest against the recent police shootings of two black men, Alton Sterling in Louisiana, and Philando Castile in Minnesota, according to the Dallas Police.
The condition of the six wounded officers remains unknown.
Officials said the gunmen aimed to kill as many officers as possible.
Among the officers killed, at least one was a Dallas Area Rapid Transit officer and at least one of the wounded was a DART officer. DART tweeted it was "grieving the loss" off Officer Brent Thompson, 43.
The number of dead initially was four, but around 2 a.m., Dallas police announced a fifth officer had died.
"It is a heartbreaking morning to lose these four officers that proudly served our citizens," said Dallas Mayor Mike Rawlings. "To say that our police officers put their lives on the line every day is not a hyperbole, it’s a reality."

By 12:30 a.m. local time, three suspects were in custody and cops were in negotiations with a fourth, who was exchanging gunfire with officers.
Two of the individuals were taken in after one of them was seen carrying a camouflage bag walking quickly down Lamar Street in downtown Dallas. The individual then threw the bag in the back of a Mercedes and sped off. Police followed the vehicle and performed a traffic stop.
A woman was also taken into custody in the vicinity of the El Centro parking garage.
A fourth suspect was engaged in a shootout with Dallas SWAT officers, police said, and a suspicious package was found near the suspect's location. Police said the package is being secured by the bomb squad.
That suspect told police "the end is coming...and there are bombs all over the place," according to Dallas police chief David Brown. That suspect also said that he planned to hurt more officers.
"We’re leaving every motive on the table," Brown said. It was yet to be determined if the attackers were part of the rally, but they appeared to be working together Brown added.

The Swedish police said on Tuesday that they were investigating reports that dozens of young women and girls were sexually assaulted at two music festivals in Sweden last weekend.
The police said there had been five reports of rape and 12 reports of sexual molestation at the Bravalla Festival in Norrkoping, about 100 miles southwest of Stockholm, while 32 sexual assaults had been reported atPutte i Parken, a music festival in Karlstad, about 190 miles west of Stockholm.
Girls and women at the festival in Karlstad said they had been groped by boys and men, Inspector Leif Nystrom of the Karlstad Police Department said in a phone interview. Most were under 18 years old, and three were under 15.
“These were reports of women being touched in unwanted places, such as on their breasts and on their bottoms and inside their underwear,” he said.
The police have been examining seven suspects, six of them foreigners, whose ages range from under 18 to 35, Inspector Nystrom said; no arrests have been made.

The Swedish police have already been under scrutiny. The Swedish newspaper Dagens Nyheter accused the police of failing to publicize details about sexual assaults at a festival in Stockholm last summer until the newspaper drew attention to the episode. The newspaper also accused the authorities of failing to warn the public ahead of the festival that similar attacks had taken place in 2014 and suggested that the police were trying to avoid an anti-immigrant backlash.
In Germany, the police have been investigating reports of dozens of sexual assaults in the western city of Cologne on New Year’s Eve. The police said the attackers appeared to have “a North African or Arabic” appearance, heightening tensions over migrants.
Sweden and Germany have been among the most welcoming European countries for refugees. But in recent months, Sweden has been tightening its asylum rules.

A 19-year-old walking down a busy commercial strip of a New Orleans suburb Wednesday in the middle of the afternoon shot and killed a deputy after the officer tried to search him, the sheriff said Wednesday, labelling the shooting 'a cold-blooded murder'.
Jefferson Parish Sheriff Newell Normand described the deadly shooting that swiftly unfolded after Detective David F. Michel Jr., 50, tried to search Jerman Neveaux.
The sheriff said the officer had noticed Neveaux walking behind another person who appeared to be nervous, so he pulled over.
Michel approached Neveaux and placed him up against the police vehicle so he could search him, Normand said.
But Neveaux flipped around, 'went chest to chest' with the officer, pulled out a gun and — reaching over Michel's shoulder — shot him in the back.
'As Detective Michel fell to the ground, he fired two more shots at point-blank range into the back of Detective Michel,' Normand said.
The officer was able to get on the radio and say he'd been shot, Normand said.
As Michel was brought to a hospital in New Orleans where he later died, officers flooded the area, using dogs and helicopters to search for the suspect.
Normand said police were able to find the suspect, who was going through the backyards of houses in the nearby area.
Geralisha Henderson lived in one of those houses. She said she went to her back door Wednesday to make sure it was locked after police combing her street said they were searching for a suspect.
When she went to the back door, she saw what appeared to be a young man dressed in jeans and T-shirt hiding in the back of the yard. Frightened, she went to the street and waved for a police officer to come.
When she went to the back door to peek outside again, she said the suspect was much closer to the house. The suspect saw her and asked to be let in, she said.
'He was telling me "Open the door, let me in,"' she said. 'He looked scared.'
She said she did not see a gun. At that the point, several officers rushed in and detained him in the backyard. Henderson's mother, Alicia, said an officer later came back to the house and told her the man was the suspect they were looking for.
Normand said five witnesses identified Neveaux as the shooter, and authorities found the gun on him and have been able to match it forensically to the shooting.
A spokesman for the sheriff's office, John Fortunato, said he has been arrested on charges of first degree murder and assault.
The suspect admitted shooting the officer and said he was on probation for another offense and didn't want the officer to find the gun and arrest him, Normand said.
The sheriff also said his office is investigating a video that was brought to their attention by a local media outlet that shows Neveaux's arrest.
Normand, who said he saw the video minutes before the news conference, said it shows Neveaux '...being struck by our officers while attempting to gain control of Neveaux.' He said Neveaux was still armed at that time.
Neveaux, who was taken to the hospital for treatment after his arrest, had an orbital fracture and scrapes and cuts, Normand said.
A coroner's 'first glance' indicated Michel was struck three times in the back, a WWLTV reporter tweeted.
The shooting happened outside a Dunkin' Donuts on Manhattan Boulevard near Ascot Road.
Manhattan Boulevard is a heavy thoroughfare in the area known as the West Bank, across the Mississippi River from New Orleans.

Deputy Chief Craig Taffaro, who commands the parish's operations division, said Michel was a cheerful man who loved his job.

He said Michel's father was en route to New Orleans. 'I spoke with his dad," Taffaro said, "And he said, 'As difficult as this is, he's doing what he loved to doI guess that sums it up.'
Michel was assigned to the street crimes unit, which targets drug sales and criminal activity in 17 high-crime areas around the parish, Taffaro said. Michel was in a black unmarked car and dressed in plain clothes with sheriff markings.
Michel joined the sheriff's office in 2007 and was transferred to the street crimes unit in 2015, Fortunato said.
It was the year's second shooting of a Jefferson officer.
Another member of the Jefferson Parish Sheriff's Office, Stephen Arnold, was shot and wounded in January during a drug raid on a house in the Lower 9th Ward section of New Orleans.

German Police Shoot Dead Gentleman With Long Gun Who Took Hostages in Theater

A masked gunman took hostages at a cinema in western Germany on Thursday before police stormed the complex and shot him dead, police said.
No other people were injured, a police spokesman said.
The attacker, who carried a rifle or "long gun", acted alone and appeared to be a "disturbed man", the interior minister of Hesse state, Peter Beuth, told the regional parliament.
Police have not identified the man or established his motive, spokesman Bernd Hochstaedter said, adding that nothing immediately pointed to him having a militant background.
German television showed pictures of heavily-armed police, wearing helmets and body armour, storming the Kinopolis complex in Viernheim, south of Frankfurt, and a couple fleeing the building.
Cinema employee Guri Blakaj told Reuters the gunman, who was aged about 18 to 25 and about 1.7 metres tall, entered the cinema at around 3 p.m. and told workers to go into an office.
He then went into a cinema theatre. Blakaj, who said there were about six staff and 30 cinemagoers in the building, then heard shots fired.
Police special forces stormed the building and shot the gunman.

A terrified worker at a German cinema has revealed how he mistook a gunman for a film fan wearing a costume before he opened fire and took them hostage.
Guri Blakaj initially dismissed the masked man who stormed the Kinopolis cinema complex in Viernheim, Western Germany, at about 3pm on Thursday carrying a gun and ammunition belt.
He believed the man he saw standing 'by the popcorn stand' to be a customer wearing a costume, complete with the belt of cartridges draped across his shoulder.
But then Blakaj, who was working the till at the time, realised it was 'something more serious'.
As his colleagues were told to lie down, Blakaj was ordered to close the doors to the cinema.
All the while, the gunman held his weapon to his head.
Blakaj, who was told to go and sit in his office after shutting the doors, said the man also shot at a colleague but didn't hit him.
'He seemed very confused, and was relatively young,' Blakaj said, adding he had asked if the man wanted money, to which he responded he didn't.
The assailant then went into one of the theatres. Blakaj, who said there were about six workers and 30 cinema-goers in the building, then heard shots fired. Other reports suggest there were about four shots fired in total.
Almir H., 16, said he was one of the hostages taken by the man in the cinema. He claimed he was locked in a toilet and said, in broken German: 'Lie down in here if you love your life.'
Police special forces later stormed the building and shot him the masked man.
Bild newspaper reported that a suicide vest and a hand grenade were found near the body of the dead man, although police have not confirmed this. Authorities have said, however, that the man was mentally disturbed and not linked with any terrorist group.

A young woman screamed helplessly as she was set upon by a violent gang in the centre of tourist Paris today.
She was repeatedly punched and kicked in the head and upper body as around 15 mainly men surrounded her, knocking her to the ground.
The terrifying attack, which was captured on video, took place within sight of Notre Dame Cathedral, and less than half-a-mile from the Louvre museum.
Police were nowhere to be seen, as the savagery continued until the early hours of this morning, with others reporting muggings and gratuitous assaults.
Another video obtained by Mail Online shows a man who was knocked unconscious by another gang staggering away from the scene of the crime with a head wound.[. . .]
‘Gangs of youths had the freedom of the streets to attack and steal from anyone they wanted. Paris is no longer a safe tourist city – it’s like a warzone.’
It all took place during the 35th annual ‘Fete de la Musique’ (Music Party), an event that is meant to be celebration of the arts, with hundreds of thousands taking to the street.
Anne Hidalgo, the Socialist mayor of Paris, and President Francois Hollande are among those who regularly show off the event as a ‘celebration of Paris life’.
Manuel Valls, the Prime Minister, even said this year’s Party was ‘the best response to terrorism’, arguing that people should go out and enjoy themselves, in defiance of threats of violence.
But the attack on the woman – who has not been identified – paints a very different picture.
She was with a group of friends who attended a rap gig on a street close to Rue de Rivoli, the equivalent of London’s Oxford Street in Paris.


A gang of Marseille youths launched an unprovoked attack on England supporters earlier this month. A chair was thrown through the air as violence overshadow England's opening match of the Euro 2016 tournament.

A crowd of some 1,000 people congregated outside a Caribbean restaurant, where giant speakers and a small stage were set up.
But trouble started almost immediately, when a man was set upon by a gang early in the evening, and knocked unconscious.
Video shows him being helped up by other members of the crowd, before he staggers away with a head wound.
The ugly atmosphere grew, as revelers openly smoked cannabis, and drank bottles of beer from nearby supermarkets.
There is a police station close next to Les Halles shopping centre, next door to where the attacks happened, but not a single officer appeared to deal with the trouble.[. . .]
Police at the Les Halles station today said they ‘knew absolutely nothing’ about the gang attack, and urged ‘witnesses to come forward’.
The mob violence is particularly embarrassing for Mr Hollande and Ms Hidalgo, who have pledged to make Paris a safe city again, following the attack by Islamic State suicide bombers brandishing Kalashnikovs.
Many of their attacks took place in exactly the same kind of streets as where the violence happened last night and this morning.

California Police, DHS Arrest 238 For Child Predator Abuse

A two-month sweep of suspected child predators wanted for everything from negotiating sex tourism on the internet to possessing and selling pornography netted 238 arrests across Southern California, including a Buddhist monk, authorities announced Monday.
The sweep was part of a national effort called Operation Broken Heart, launched by the Internet Crimes Against Children Task Force, a multi-agency effort. Operation Broken Heart was first conducted in 2014.
The latest operation, which was conducted in April and May, included agents with federal Homeland Security Investigations and child exploitation units from Los Angeles, Long Beach, Orange County and Fontana.
Those arrested included a 26-year-old Buddhist monk from Riversideand an Australian man who came to Los Angeles specifically to buy a 6-year-old boy who was being sold on the internet, officials said during a news conference in Exposition Park. Nationwide, 61 task forces conducted similar operations between April and May. A total of 1,368 arrests were made across the country as part of Operation Broken Heart, officials said.

Also earlier this month, “Glee” actor Mark Salling pleaded not guilty to two counts of receiving and possessing child pornography. His arrest was made last year at his home in Sunland by officers assigned to the L.A. Regional Internet Crimes Against Children Task force.

In some cases, a mobile lab maintained by the LAPD’s Internet Crimes Against Children unit would arrive on scene so that officers could examine computer hard drives on the spot to find out if suspects were in possession of child pornography.
The mobile lab, which was on display during the news conference, is supplied with specialized equipment so that hard drives can be examined without destroying the original content, said LAPD Officer Brian Arnett, who is part of the unit.
When suspects watch police remove hard drives, they will often start talking, Arnett explained.
“We have a 98 percent confession rate,” Arnett said. “We’re usually able to make the arrest on scene.”

Amarillo police say an armed Walmart employee likely upset for being passed over for a promotion took two people hostage before being shot and killed by officers inside the store near Interstate 27 and Georgia Street.
The man was identified by police as Mohammad Moghaddam, 54. The incident began around 11:06 a.m. and was over by 12:22 p.m.
Both hostages are safe.
According to police, the incident began with one or two gunshots believed to be fired into the ceiling by the checkout area. Moghaddam then took a manager and another employee hostage in a management area of the store.
At some point, SWAT officers entered the Walmart building.
Lt. Erick Bohannon, with the special crimes unit, said as the SWAT team was getting into place a hostage ran out of an office. Moghaddam pursued the hostage and ran into officers with a weapon still in his hand.
Two SWAT officers then opened fire and killed Moghaddam, Bohannon said.

An armed, disgruntled employee of a Texas Walmart took two people hostage inside the superstore Tuesday morning before he was shot and killed by a SWAT team, police said.
Authorities responded to an “active shooter” situation with possible hostages at a Walmart in Amarillo, TX on Interstate 27 and Georgia Street at around 11 a.m. local time, officials said.
About two hours later, officers with the Amarillo Police Department shot and killed the gunman, identified as 54-year-old Mohammad Moghaddam, police said.
Police found two uninjured hostages with the gunman inside the chain store.
The Amarillo Police Department tweeted that the gunman was “shot by APD SWAT and is…dead. Hostages inside are safe.”
No one else was injured or killed besides Moghaddam.
Cops said there was a previous “work-related dispute” between Moghaddam and his manager who was one of the two hostages.
The official Twitter account for the city of Amarillo warned people to “avoid” the Walmart as the incident unfolded.
Witnesses told ABC 7 Amarillo that the shooter was an employee that took a colleague hostage, the news channel reported.
“As soon as we heard about the situation at our store in Amarillo, Texas, we acted immediately,” Walmart said in a statement.
“All customers and our two associates who were held hostage are safe. This was a very difficult situation and we are thankful for the quick response from law enforcement,” the statement read.

The gunman shot dead by police inside a Walmart in Texas has been identified as an employee at the store who had a work-related dispute with one of the people he took hostage.
Mhammad Moghaddam, 54, took two people hostage, including a manager with whom he had a work-related dispute, at the store in Amarillo, police said.
He was shot dead by SWAT team members on Tuesday afternoon, the Amarillo Police Department said. The two hostages were released and are not injured.
Police said their initial investigation indicates that there was a dispute between Moghaddam and management over a promotion.
Officers were dispatched to the Walmart at I-27 and Georgia Street on Canyon Drive on an active shooter call at 11.06am, the Amarillo Police Department said.
They determined that the suspect entered the store and fired at least one shot toward the ceiling.
The initial report to police said that he had taken a hostage and gone into an office at the back of the store.
Responding officers from multiple agencies arrived at the store and entered. Police confirmed that the suspect fired no further shots after the first one.
The SWAT continued a search of the store for the gunman, who had barricaded himself into the office.
At around 12.20pm, SWAT officers saw a person who they believed to be the only hostage come out of the office. Upon entering the room, they saw the second hostage.
‘The suspect was still armed with a handgun and was a threat to the hostage and the officers,’ a police spokesman said.
The officers fired shots, which hit the suspect. Police say he died immediately.
Both hostages were escorted to safety and examined by paramedics. Neither was injured.
Amarillo police officers, sheriff's deputies from Randall and Potter Counties, as well as Texas highway patrolmen were on the scene, officials said.
SWAT teams and bomb robots were also present. The store is closed as authorities continue their investigation.
APD’s Special Crimes Unit is handling the investigation as it is an officer-involved shooting, the department said.
Investigators have not determined how many shots were fired.
The two SWAT officers have been placed on administrative leave, which is standard protocol.
‘There is no indication that this had anything to do with terrorism or the shooting that happened over the weekend in Orlando,’ a statement from the Amarillo Police Department said.

The guest columnist joins Cambridge City Councilor Mazen making psychiatric diagnoses, without interviewing the patient. He would make a great television psychiatrist. How does he know the shooter is a psychopath? Is he suggesting that all crazy people are dangerous and violent. Expressing outrage(?) the columnist says, "It would appear that ISIS is directly trying to determine the outcome of the presidential campaign." Is that all this is? Political activity? He adds, "the 'Muslim world' that has the greatest vested interest in eradication of this scourge from within its midst." Does this alleged human rights activist include people with disabilities in his notion of diversity unlike human rights advocates in Cambridge? An ISIS militant murdered a police commander and his wife at their home near Paris before being shot dead by officers who rescued the couple's three-year-old boy unharmed.
After killing the couple Larossi Abballa, 25, recorded a 12 minute monologue to camera while in the couple's house in Magnanville and posted the video on Facebook Live.
In the video, Abballa says: 'We will come and find you the way I have found this policemen at his house.'
He also hinted at an ISIS attack on the Euro 2016 football tournament, saying: ‘We're keeping another surprise for the Euros but I won’t say anything more.'
And, chillingly, he also hinted that the son of his victims was also in danger, saying: 'I don't know what I'm going to do with the boy.'

Police later raided Abballa's home and found a hit list on his computer which contained six names.
Prosecutor Francois Molins said they included 'rappers, journalists, police officers and public personalities'.
During Abballa's video diatribe he expressed particular hatred for journalists Bernard de La Villardière, Audrey Pulvar, Mohamed Sifaoui and Lea Salame, political scientist Gilles Kepel and rapper Booba.
Booba is of Senegalese Muslim origin and was, ironically, accused of anti-Semitism in 2014 for the lyrics of a song which appeared to praise Mohammed Merah, a lone wolf who killed seven people, including a rabbi and three Jewish children in Toulouse in 2012.
Abballa called on Muslims to kill journalists and police officers and added: ‘Target their fear.’
He stabbed Jean-Baptiste Salvaing, 42, nine times in the stomach at his home in the Yvelines department, north west of Paris, shortly after 8.30pm on Monday.
After a three-hour stand-off elite Raid commandos entered the building, where they killed Abballa.
Inside the house, they found the lifeless body of Mr Salvaing's wife, Jessica Schneider, who was an administrator who worked for the police force in Mantes-la-Jolie.
The only survivor was the couple's three-year-old son, who was 'extremely shocked but otherwise unharmed'.

The couple's young son was 'in shock but unharmed,' a prosecutor added, saying he was receiving medical attention.
Mr Molins said Abballa pledged his allegiance to ISIS three weeks ago and appeared to be following a recent order from ISIS leader Abu Bakr al-Baghdadi 'to kill miscreants at home with their families' during Ramadan.
Three men - 'linked to' Abballa - were arrested on Tuesday morning. They were described as 'acquaintances' and are aged 27, 29 and 44.
It also emerged today the knifeman was part of a recent investigation into a Syrian jihadist network.
French security expert David Thomson said Abballa posted gruesome images of the murdered couple on the internet.

A 12-minute video and 15 photographs appeared on Abballa's Facebook page, along with his justifications for what he had done.

Abballa wrote: 'I still don't know what I'm going to do with him.'

He was sentenced to three years behind bars, six months of which were suspended for 'criminal association with the aim of preparing terrorist acts' following a trial with seven other defendants.
Despite this, he only spent a few months in prison, and is thought to have maintained his links with a group sending jihadists to fight in Afghanistan.
It has also been revealed Abballa had previously claimed allegiance to ISIS and sources say he did so again while talking to officers during the siege.

Florida Police Rescue Dog Trapped in Septic Drain

Puppy in peril: Hearing the whimpering cries while on assignment, sheriff's deputies in Florida discovered a puppy in a collapsed septic drain.

A dog that was found abandoned in a septic tank in Florida, has been adopted by the police officer that rescued him.
Deputies in Fort Pierce in St. Lucie County were out serving papers at nearby homes when they heard the dog whimpering in the distance.
Upon following the sounds to determine the source, it was found that a puppy had become stuck, neck deep, in a collapsed septic drain.
Thankfully, the officers were able to free the animal which would have surely died sooner or later.
While the dog wanted to get out of the drain, it became agitated when the deputy approached, so officers ended up using a catch pole to drag the animal out of harms way.
Scared and exhausted, the little dog was given several baths to clean him, before police began to stick up fliers around neighborhood in the hope they might be able to track down the original owner.
In the end, nobody came forward to claim the cute canine and so one of the hero deputies decided to adopt the pooch for himself.
'He had been balancing on his back legs to keep his head above the water,' said Deputy James Gettings, who now owns Puddles, to TCPalm. 'I don't know how long he had been in there. His hind legs weren't working once we pulled him out.'
Humane Society staff in St. Lucie neutered the puppy and gave him vaccinations,
After all that was done, the puppy was clean, able to walk again and given a clean bill of health.
Puddles is just a few months old. 'He mostly likes to lounge around,' the deputy said. 'He loves being home.'
Puddles joins Getting's family that includes his wife Rachael, their two-year-old daughter Evelyn, and their basset hound, Lacie.

Tucson, Arizona Ranchers Have Police Radios Due to Invasion of Illegal Aliens

Southern Arizona ranchers who often encounter drug smugglers and other dangers have a new way to get help in emergencies: sheriff-issued radios usually reserved for police that connect them directly to 911 dispatchers.
So far 31 ranchers along the Arizona-Mexico border have taken the new handheld radios issued by the Cochise County Sheriff's Office.
Sheriff Mark Dannels obtained them through private funding in an effort to improve safety along the rural areas that often lack strong cell phone coverage. He said the 2010 murder of rancher Rob Krentz led to increased security and more communication between ranchers and authorities. Authorities believe Krentz was fatally shot by drug smugglers.
"I don't think there's a better form of community policing out there than having them have a form of communication with us in their time of need," Dannels said.
The sheriff's office also has a team dedicated to patrolling ranch areas and an advisory group composed of law enforcement and ranchers.
John Ladd, whose family ranch sits along 10 miles of the international border, says the radios will come in handy when he's out in remote parts of his ranch.
Ladd said that the illegal immigration landscape has changed a lot in the past decade. He used to see hundreds of migrants on his land daily, but that number is down to nearly zero now. Instead, it's the drug smugglers and their lookouts who travel through his ranch. His house has been burglarized countless times, he says.
"If you live in the rural area, that's your big concern every day. You still have to realize that I can't just walk into my house anymore. I gotta look around and see what's going," Ladd said.

Interesting article yet lacking in specifics. Professor Sarna recognizes the role of politicians in creating a hateful atmosphere. Campaigning for president former U.S. Senator, First Lady, and Secretary of State, Hillary Clinton called Republican candidate Donald Trump, crazy and dangerous. That is the pervasive attitude promoted by police, lawyers, courts, and politicians toward persons with disabilities. It is seldom recognized as hateful not even by journalists, who join in the hate campaign against disabled persons. Not distinguishing between lawful and unlawful discrimination in Massachusetts, the Attorney General indicates her less than thoughtful idea on the issue. Though she is quick to note any slight toward homosexuals and their powerful lobbyists. The AG seldom notices or expresses any concern about institutionalized bigotry toward persons with disabilities. Then there is the senior U.S. Senator from Massachusetts who was a professor of law at Harvard Law School. Being relentlessly humiliated for her identity by conservative journalists she was unable refrain from employing personal attacks against Donald Trump. Is she a role model indicating her approval of hatred toward persons with who she disagrees?

Reports of anti-Semitic incidents are soaring this year across New England, an increase fueled by vandalism, harassment, and other acts at schools and colleges, according to statistics released Wednesday by the Anti-Defamation League.
According to the ADL, there have already been 56 anti-Semitic acts in the region this year, nearly as many as for all of 2015, when 61 were reported.
The data alarmed Jewish clergy and academics, who said the incidents suggest a rising level of intolerance that may feed on the rhetoric from the contentious political season.
“Clearly, people are acting out on some long-held stereotypes and hatred toward Jews, and it’s designed to send a message of intimidation,” said Robert Trestan, director of the New England Regional Office of the ADL. “We’re increasingly living in an environment where incivility is becoming common and accepted practice.”

Brandeis professor Jonathan Sarna said he believes a combination of social media, anti-Israel sentiment, and rhetoric from politicians has led to a sense of public acceptance of some anti-Semitism.
“There is a sense today that this kind of hatred is more acceptable and that the public square has become coarser than it had been in the past, and indeed, one senses that even in presidential politics that there is often a relationship,” Sarna said.
“We look to a candidate as role models. When they employ very coarse speech, and people take notice, it’s not a surprise that other folks do the same thing.’’

Among the schools scheduled to take part are all four middle schools in Newton. At Newton’s F.A. Day Middle School, three anti-Semitic incidents were reported this academic year, including graffiti reading “Burn the Jews” scrawled in a boy’s bathroom.
The incidents prompted Newton officials to hold a public meeting, which in itself became a divisive event.
Newton Mayor Setti Warren said Wednesday that he was not surprised to hear about the uptick in anti-Semitic incidents.

Harvard Law School emeritus professor Alan Dershowitz said it was hard to measure the current state of anti-Semitism in statistics since many incidents go unreported.
He said he receives around 50 anti-Semitic e-mails, letters, and phone calls each year but does not report them to law enforcement.

Yet another high-ranking NYPD officer has put in his retirement papers amid the FBI’s gift-for-favors probe into the department, The Post has learned.
NYPD Deputy Chief of Housing David Colon filed for retirement at One Police Plaza on Tuesday – the day after Deputy Inspector James Grant put in his papers, police sources said.
Colon allegedly had close ties to a former Harlem restaurant owner, Hamlet Peralta, who was recently indicted by the Manhattan US Attorney’s Office on charges related to running a multimillion-dollar Ponzi scheme. Colon has been transferred to desk duty.
The head of Colon’s union said the deputy chief retired for “personal reasons.
“He has a newborn child he would like to devote all of his attention to,” Roy Richter, president of the NYPD Captains Endowment Association, said in a statement.
Five other NYPD honchos caught up in the scandal are expected to file their retirement papers in the coming days, including Deputy Housing Chief Michael Harrington, Deputy Chief Eric Rodriguez and Deputy Chief Andrew Capul, sources said.

Hartford, CT Police Use Video Surveillance That Respects Privacy Of Civilians

Michelle Plante scoured a surveillance video for clues, trying to identify the man seen shooting at someone in a Hartford playground recently in broad daylight. Luckily, no children were there, and the man fled into a nearby house after missing his target.
Plante, who works in the new Real-Time Crime and Data Intelligence Center for Hartford police, determined the address of the house and who lived there. She ran names through databases, hoping to determine the name of the shooter.
They can enter names into criminal and private company databases and relay virtual dossiers on people to police. They also tap into surveillance cameras at schools and businesses - after getting permission in a process agreed upon beforehand - to help police respond to active shooters and other crimes. Much of the information, including video feeds, can be sent to officers' cellphones.[. . .]
New York City opened its Real Time Crime Center - the first of its kind - in 2005, and other large cities followed suit.



Smaller cities are now opening their own centers after acquiring surveillance cameras, gunshot detectors and other technology. Civil liberties advocates, meanwhile, have privacy concerns and are calling for better regulation of police surveillance operations.
Such facilities have opened in the past year in Hartford; Wilmington, Delaware; and Springfield, Massachusetts. Others are in the works in Bridgeport, Connecticut; Modesto, California; and Wilmington, North Carolina.
"It's such a great asset having everybody under one roof," said Sgt. Johnmichael O'Hare, who's in charge of Hartford's center, which officials unveiled in February. "It's all about transfer of information."

The centers reflect law enforcement's growing reliance on technology. Many cities are using federal grants and drug forfeiture money to help pay for the centers, which can cost hundreds of thousands of dollars to set up.
The American Civil Liberties Union says there is a lack of general rules to limit privacy invasions and abuse of surveillance technology by police. The ACLU also is concerned about how long police departments retain camera footage and other surveillance data.
"The public really needs to be consulted, and there needs to be a debate," said David McGuire, legislative and policy director of the ACLU of Connecticut, which is keeping an eye on real-time crime centers in the state.
In December, the ACLU of Northern California criticized Fresno police for using social media surveillance software without the public's consent. One software program, the ACLU said, suggested identifying potential threats to public safety by tracking hashtags related to the Black Lives Matter movement. Another program assigned "threat levels" to residents, the ACLU said.

Civil liberties advocates also have concerns about airports and many police departments now using facial recognition software to track and identify people, saying such software is known for mistakes.
The Hartford center doesn't use facial recognition, but officials say that could come in the future.
Hartford Police Chief James Rovella said city officials are well aware of privacy concerns.

Here's a thoughtful gentleman who regularly took time from his busy schedule to engage with local law enforcement encouraging them to practice their arrest and chase techniques. He resisted arrest to test them, and was convicted on at least two occasions. Though on probation and violating it repeatedly, judges never revoked his probation. His resident status was not clear. He is suspected of having false citizenship papers. As expected no one was watching this active business oriented gentleman. No police, psychologists or psychiatrists, no Communists from New York or New Jersey, no Harvard University campus police, no local police from Somerville, or Medford, MA, no FBI informants, and no crime family associates. They have higher priorities. For example, the above mentioned organizations and licensed professionals took turns for 45 years maintaining relentless surveillance, harassment, behavior conditioning, drugging without consent, psychological testing, character assassination, ridicule, humiliation, sleep disturbances, computer tampering, provocations of a 70 year old white male who they say is mentally impaired. They used this law abiding American citizen's personal journals to ridicule and to humiliate him for 40 years. They denied him basic rights and privileges enjoyed by illegal alien criminals and terrorists alike. The White House National Security deputy, Ben Rhodes (brother of CBS News President), openly boasted of how he fooled taxpayers, journalists and voters to get the misguided Iran nuclear arms deal promoted in media. The man police say shot and killed an Auburn police officer has a long history with drugs and violence towards cops, had repeatedly violated probation this spring and had been arrested just a week ago on motor vehicle charges, according to Worcester district and superior court documents.
Jorge Zambrano, 35, was shot and killed by police yesterday 18 hours after they say he killed Ronald Tarentino, 42, an Auburn police officer.
Zambrano was arrested last Monday when police noticed him driving a car with plates that belonged to a Nissan Maxima, not the Acura Infinity he was driving. He was pulled over and arrested without incident and charged with driving with a suspended license, driving an unregistered motor vehicle, and a number plate violation to conceal his ID. He was arraigned that day and let go on personal recognizance, according to court papers.
The Worcester resident has an extensive record and court papers show he had violated probation repeatedly this spring. A notice of probation violation and hearing filed in court states Zambrano tested positive for cocaine on April 11 and April 25, self-reported for cocaine on April 22, self reported for Suboxone use on April 11, missed a drug screening on April 8, and missed visits with his probation officer on April 4, April 8, April 11, and April 22. He was due in court for a probation violation hearing May 11, but the hearing was continued to June 9 because Zambrano said he needed to hire an attorney, records show.
He was also arrested in Worcester on Jan. 24 and charged with assault and battery on a police officer and resisting arrest.

Last year, in May 2015, Zambrano led cops on a high-speed chase when a police officer who knew Zambrano — and knew his license had been revoked — recognized him driving a car, according to court papers. Police followed him through early rush-hour traffic in Worcester and attempted to pull him over with lights and sirens. Zambrano stopped briefly before taking off and, according to the police report, drove at speeds “far greater than what was reasonable,” buzzing past the Rice Square School just after 2 p.m. — as it was letting out — driving an estimated 60 mph and “operating recklessly to endanger the public,” records show.
Zambrano damaged a Mercedes while he was fleeing, and police elected to terminate the pursuit, records show. He was charged with failure to stop for police, leaving the scene of a property damaging crash, and negligent operation of a motor vehicle.

Zambrano was charged with cocaine trafficking, possession with intent to distribute, three counts of assault and battery with a dangerous weapon, two counts of assault and battery on a police officer, resisting arrest, and a drug violation near a school. Zambrano’s case had dozens of evidentiary, status and motion hearings from 2008 until May 2011, when he pleaded guilty to numerous charges and was sentenced to seven years in prison, court records show. He was given 1,637 days — nearly four and a half years — credit for time served.
Zambrano was charged in May 2003 with cocaine trafficking, possession of a class D substance with intent to distribute, and driving with a suspended license. He pleaded guilty to the lesser included offense — possession with intent to distribute — and was sentenced on May 28, 2004, to serve one to three years in state prison.

A police officer was shot and killed during a traffic stop in a central Massachusetts town early Sunday and authorities are now hunting for the suspect, Fox 25 Boston reported. The murdered officer, Ronald Tarentino, 42, joined the Auburn Police Department two years ago after transferring from the Leicester, Mass., department, Auburn Police Chief Andrew Sluckis said at a news conference Sunday afternoon. Police surrounded a house Sunday afternoon close to four miles from where the shooting took place, and gunshots were heard as authorities deployed tear gas and a robot, The Boston Herald reported. State and local police surrounded the home in Oxford, Mass. and were using a bullhorn to tell the occupants to come out, the Herald reported. The murdered officer, Ronald Tarentino, 42, joined the Auburn Police Department two years ago after transferring from the Leicester, Mass., department, Auburn Police Chief Andrew Sluckis said at a news conference Sunday afternoon. Authorities have not yet released information about the suspect's identity. A law enforcement source told Fox 25 that police are looking for suspects out of Worcester, Mass. Tarentino leaves a wife and three children. The department “lost a dedicated and brave public servant,” Sluckis said, before announcing that no further details on the incident would be released at this time. Massachusetts State Police said the Auburn police officer was shot at about 12:30 a.m. Sunday. Auburn is about 45 miles southwest of Boston. Tarentino was rushed to UMass Medical Center in Worcester, WGGB/WSHM-TV reported. Auburn Police, the Massachusetts State Police, the FBI, and the Worcester Police are working together in the investigation, Sluckis said. State and local police officers lined up outside the hospital on Sunday as a police vehicle, escorted by a police procession, took Tarentino's body to the state medical examiner's office in Boston, where the vehicle was met by a large group of officers.

A student attacked by a gang of four men has accused police of blaming her because she had blonde hair and sexy clothing.
The incident happened when the young woman, identified only by her first name Sabina, who lives in the capital Vienna had been waiting for a train on the S6 line at the city's main Westbahnhof station.
The 20-year-old, who was hospitalised after the attack by four men in which she was beaten and robbed, told Heute newspaper: "I felt so helpless."
"I had been standing on the platform waiting for the train when a man came up to me and spoke to me in a foreign language. He then started putting his hands through my hair and made it clear that in his cultural background there were hardly any blonde women. I told him to go away, and for a short while he really did go away."
"But it was only to get his pals and a bit later he came back with three others. They stole my handbag and my cards."
And if that was not enough, she said that the four had then attacked her, bashing her to the ground in a rage before running off.
She said that from what they had said she understood they were from Afghanistan and that as she lay on the floor in agony nobody on the platform had helped.
After being treated at hospital for bruising to her head, shoulder and elbow as well as her spine and hips, she went to police.
And her distress had turned to anger when police had told her that she should change her hair colour and should not have been travelling alone after 8pm on public transport.
She said: "At first I was scared, but now I'm more angry than anything. After the attack they told me that women shouldn't be alone on the streets after 8pm. And they also gave me other advice, telling me I should dye my hair dark and also not dress in such a provocative way. Indirectly that means I was partly to blame for what happened to me. That is a massive insult."
Ed Driscoll comments in Instapundit, “Don’t think of it as an insult; think of it as the Austrian police admitting they’re as helpless to stop the onslaught as you are.
When the police are helpless the (sic) protect against enforcement of alien norms by thugs, the thugs win. It is called “submission,” or, in Arabic, “Islam.”
So the “compassion” demanded by Angela Merkel, the pope, and much of the progressive left amounts to surrender of the West to Islam. There is still time to reverse the submission, but with every new arrival of a young male Muslim and those co-religionists who acquiesce to or support him, the prospect diminishes.

In what other line of work would that be true? Newspapers? Medicine? Academics?
Cops are different. They’re supposed to protect us from the bad guys, so when one of their own is charged with being a bad guy, it’s easy for their critics to toss a blanket indictment over them all.
It happens a lot and it’s abhorrent.

Here in a town where the names of long-gone athletes and politicians are easily recalled, who remembers Wayne Anderson? Sherman Griffiths? Jerry Hurley? Tommy Gill? Roy Sergei? Richie Halloran? John Mulligan? Tommy Rose? Jack and Walter Schroeder?
They were all Boston cops killed in the line of duty, never suspecting when they began their shifts that they were about to end their watches.
Does anyone remember them?

Plymouth, MA Policeman Saves Life of Father Of Groom At Wedding

Mike Reynolds had just performed a beautiful song he wrote to his son and his new bride on their wedding day when the father of the groom collapsed, hurling the happy occasion into chaos.
After singing and playing guitar to a melody he penned called “I Do,” Reynolds walked over to the tables at the White Cliffs Country Club in Plymouth Saturday night to shake the minister’s hand — and his heart stopped and he sank to the floor.
Reynolds, 66, is alive today, his family happily told me yesterday, because Plymouth police Sgt. Jason Higgins happened to be dining with his family at the club that night.
“My husband actually died twice and Jason brought him back to life,” Sandy Reynolds said from her husband’s hospital room. “He’s a hero.”
Flash back to the Milton couple’s wedding Saturday night. Groom David Hazelwood said he stood with his guests for a standing ovation after his father’s performance. Suddenly his new bride, Natasha, shouted with alarm, “Your dad! Your dad!”

In the club’s restaurant, Higgins, 41, was out with his fiancee’s family for dinner to thank them for helping out with the couple’s 5-week-old baby girl. A club employee recognized the police sergeant.
“She started screaming my name and she needed my help,” said Higgins, a father of three who has been with the department for 19 years.
Higgins ran into the reception room as the DJ, believe it or not, was playing “Amazing Grace.” Guests were praying and crying. Reynolds wasn’t breathing and had no pulse.
Higgins got down on his knees and began doing chest compressions. A female guest set up a defibrillator and put the pads on the man’s chest. The bride’s brother administered rescue breaths.
All Higgins could think, he recalled yesterday, was, “I want to save this guy.”
It wasn’t the first time Higgins was asked to save a life while off-duty.
He came to the rescue of a choking teenager nearly three years ago by giving him the Heimlich maneuver.

“It was amazing,” Higgins said.
The reception erupted into applause.
Sandy said Higgins stayed with her the whole time, even holding her hand.
An assistant Culver City, Calif., school superintendent, Mike Reynolds was taken to Beth Israel Deaconess Medical Center in Boston, where he is scheduled to undergo bypass surgery today, his wife said.

“I didn’t do anything heroic. Police officers across this state provide critical care to the public on a daily basis,” he said. “We just do what we signed up for.”
But Sandy Reynolds and her family aren’t buying that. The doctors and nurses told her it was Higgins’ chest compressions that saved Mike’s life.
“Without that,” she said through tears, “my husband would not be here today.”
“I just love him,” she said of Higgins. “I’m so happy he came into our lives when he did.”

Authorities say a suspect in three fatal shootings in the Washington, DC, area has been taken into custody.
Police announced at a news conference Friday that 62-year-old Eulalio Tordil had been taken into custody without incident. Tordil is an employee of the Federal Protective Service, which provides security at federal properties. He was put on administrative duties in March after a protective order was issued against him.
The first shooting occurred Thursday at a high school. The second occurred in a mall parking lot Friday morning and the third happened about 30 minutes later at a nearby shopping center.
Documents show Gladys Tordil previously told authorities that Eulalio threatened to harm her if she left him. According to a protective order obtained by the Washington Post, she said he once slapped her so hard that her glasses broke on her face.

A dead man who washed up on shore in Brooklyn — his feet stuck in concrete — was identified as a high-ranking member of the Crips in East Flatbush, police sources said.
Gang-banger Peter Martinez, 28, owed some bad people “a lot of money,” his distraught girlfriend told cops, according to a source. His cause of death was determined to be homicide by asphyxiation, the sources said.
His body was found about 10:30 a.m. Monday stuffed in a bag outside Brooklyn’s Kingsborough Community College near Oriental Boulevard. His hands were bound behind his back and his feet were stuck in concrete.
Martinez had been arrested more about 30 times, the sources said.

Police are trying to identify the body of a man who washed up along a Brooklyn beach wrapped in plastic bags with his arms tied around his back, his feet in "cement shoes."
New York Police Department Chief of Detectives Robert Boyce said Tuesday the victim had his feet "submerged in poured concrete."
He said it was obviously a homicide and officials were investigating. The man has a large tattoo of the Virgin Mary holding a rose and police hoped it would help identify him.
The body washed up from a bay near Kingsborough Community College and was found by a student on Monday. An autopsy was being performed to determine how long he'd been in the water.

The body of a man who had spent quite a while sleeping with the fishes was discovered washed up on Manhattan Beach in Brooklyn on Monday.
The corpse was wrapped in plastic, and its head and feet were tied to buckets of cement when it was found on the shore near Kingsborough Community College at around 10 a.m., according to law-enforcement sources.
The buckets were connected to the green plastic bag that held the discarded remains, the sources said.
It was not clear if the man was dead before he was tethered to the buckets or if he might have been alive while being submerged.
The body was so badly decomposed that he could not be identified.
The man was immediately declared dead at the scene, which, of course, was simply a formality.
The medical examiner will determine the official cause of death.
