Comcast Curtails Services After Two Increases In One Year

Comcast now requires subscribers to use a Digital Transport Adapter (DTA), which they provide free. But a new line appears on the monthly invoices, mentioning the device, perhaps for future charges. At present there is no charge. A customer service rep told me the reason for this new device is that too many people were stealing services without subscribing. One consequence is the new device prevents subscribers from scheduling a recording of a television show. For those who have TIVO or as I do a VCR, one can schedule to record two, three or more shows in the future. Even while on vacation away for home. But no longer. As of April 17, 2012 the new device must remain on channel three (or four). Programming a VCR will not record any other channel than the one on the DTA at the time of the recording. It is not possible to change channels without manually doing so. One more reason to end service.
This law firm Sussman Godfrey, Houston, New York etc, is Plaintiff's lawyer in an 8-year-old lawsuit against Comcast. Three groups, one in Boston are the Plaintiffs. Last week a US Judge in Philadelphia ruled the lawsuit may proceed. I do not know the details but requested them from the law firm.

The box in which Comcast sends the DTA.

This is the DTA remote that Comcast sends to customers. It is then only one with which users can change channels. The DTA and your television, and your VCR(s) must remain on channel 3 (or4). You can no longer use any of your remotes, not the TV remote, nor the VCR remote, to change channels.

The round thing with a wire is the remote sensor in case the DTA is hidden from the remote for the DTA.
