Feds Prosecute JFK Airport 1978 Lufthansa Heist Thieves

[From article]
With his own mobbed-up son glaring at him from the court gallery, the turncoat cousin of accused “Goodfellas” gangster Vincent Asaro told jurors in Brooklyn federal court Tuesday that his relative helped to commit the legendary Lufthansa heist.
Speaking in a raspy, somber voice, small-time mob associate Gaspare Valenti, 68, testified that he was lifelong crime partners with his older cousin and once helped the Bonanno capo dig up a man whom Asaro had strangled with a dog chain.
Compounding his rat ignominy by testifying against his own flesh and blood, Valenti is the government’s lynchpin witness in their effort to convict Asaro for the legendary unsolved Kennedy Airport robbery of $6 million in cash and jewels.

“What other crimes did you commit with Vincent Asaro?” Argentieri asked.
“There was a murder … of Paul Katz,” he said bluntly.
Valenti told the court that he was close to Asaro his whole life and that they even lived across the street from each other with their respective families for many years.

Valenti also testified that he committed crimes with Lucchese associate James “Jimmy the Gent” Burke, the purported mastermind behind the Lufthansa heist, who was portrayed by Robert De Niro in “Goodfellas” as Jimmy Conway.
“You could earn with him,” Valenti said of Burke. “You’d want to be on the better side of him because he would kill you as soon as he would earn with you.”
