Scientists: People Not Smart Enough For Democracy
The conclusion is the argument made by Plato and Aristotle that democracy is the least worst form of government, not the best.
[From article]
"Mato Nagel, a sociologist in Germany, concluded that democracies rarely or never elect the best leaders. Their advantage over dictatorships or other forms of government is merely that they "effectively prevent lower-than-average candidates from becoming leaders."

Democracy is the best form of government to protect all citizens from the stupidity of voters. The writers of the US Constitution and the ancient Greeks were aware of this problem. Not only do people have misguided opinions, but they vote on those opinions. See John Ziegler's film, "Media Malpractice" about what voters thought after the 2008 election. This is nothing new. See also "Numbers Rule" by George Szpiro, about how voters seldom elect the best candidate.
