Allston Residents Want Access to Harvard Housing

When rent control was repealed in 1995 the City of Cambridge agreed to allow Harvard to restrict their housing to Harvard affiliates. The University allegedly gave 100 units of affordable housing to the city, or they made 100 units available. Not sure of that part. The University agreed not to displace (evict) any persons in place when the rent control law expired. This agreement was more or less respected with tenants who knew about the agreement. Effectively in Cambridge Harvard runs segregated housing keeping Harvard affiliates separate from the unwashed community members.
