Technology May Run Amuck

Here's one more example of the amorality of technology. The internet and cell phones allow instant communications with others around the world. It permits sharing of information with everyone who has access to the new technology. But as with all technology there are always some who create an evil use for the new devices. In this case in the name of good, preventing violence the police shut down cell services along their public transit stations. They anticipate that some criminals will use the technology to create violent demonstrations. Why is there no concern about the hundreds of millions of dollars being spent at MIT's Whitehead Institute and the Broad Institute to try to discover how the human brain works? If history is any measure some of these scientists or some politicians or crime families, will decide that it is fun to manipulate humans and make them do what the scientists, politicians, crime families want them to do. All too often as with psychiatry they believe they are morally and intellectually superior to the rest of society. People with PhD.s think they are the smartest man (or woman) in the room, and those without PhD.s are inferior humans. It is humorous at best to see intelligent humans who often lack any bit of common sense.
