Misguided Disgust

Peyser's disgust is misguided. The standard in American jurisprudence is guilty beyond a reasonable doubt. The prosecution did not provide evidence of how the baby died. They did not provide evidence that the mother caused the baby's death. No matter how irresponsible, selfish, and guilty the mother may be it was not proved in court. The trier of facts, in this case the jury considers only evidence. Peyser's lamentations should be directed at the standards of the US court system, not the mother who was found not guilty. The jury did not say she is innocent. The jury did its job properly finding the evidence did not prove guilt beyond a reasonable doubt.
