In his latest book, Hitman, Howie Care, reports a conversation regarding 20 years of egregious abuse of power, corruption and crime in the Boston area. "Kevin Weeks [associate of organized crime boss James 'Whitey' Bulger, who awaits trial in July 2012 for 19 homicides and other crimes] was asked how it was possible that for 20 years someone like Whitey Bulger could get away with committing so many crimes, up to and including murder? How, the prosecutor inquired, could such a scandal ever occur in America?
"We weren't in America," Weeks replied. "We were in Boston." (Howie Carr, Hitman, Page 365)
Not much has changed since that conversation. Not in Boston or even in State College, Pennsylvania. In July 2012 talk show hosts, and political pundits, discussed the penalties meted out to Penn State University for the many years of homosexual criminal abuses by an assistant coach exploiting football players. How could that go on for 20 years also? Dan Rea on his AM Radio talk show on the Boston CBS station mentioned the Catholic Church abuse scandal as well. How could that go on?
The answer is that people have not changed and never will. In order to protect the image of a person or institution any and all negative facts are suppressed, and the perpetrators are allowed to continue their abuses. Maybe they are dismissed quietly without any penalty or they just stop what they were doing.
Close observers of City government and state government, in Massachusetts and in Cambridge MA host city of Harvard University and MIT can see how officials often disappear without any trial and never any admission of wrongdoing. It is the fashion. More often than not the victims of criminal abuses in Cambridge and in Massachusetts disappear or end up in jail.
In the case of the Bulger crime family there were three FBI agents who protected the criminal acts which spiraled out of control. Judges, US Attorneys, Special Agents in Charge cooperated. The highest levels of the FBI, Speakers of the US House of Representatives used their influence to protect Bulger and his gang.
Carr also reports why Boston media journalists do not report on such egregious abuses. In 1978 a Boston Herald American reporter investigated a murder. Bulger called him to arrange a meeting and threatened the reporter. Carr reports, "Suddenly there was a lot less coverage of organized crime--in the Globe as well as the Herald American." When the media do not report crime, corruption and abuses of power, ordinary citizens who do not have the time or interest to pay close attention to government in action, are clueless and believe that government is honest and can be trusted. Big surprise when they become victims of government abuse.
For 40 years I've been targeted by police, crime families, and Communists who took turns harassing me, threatening me, provoking me, broadcasting character assassination about me, and more. My question is how is that allowed to continue? Especially when the US government destroyed my life, my career and my reputation in 1973 almost 39 years ago. Yet this abuse continues 24/7/365.
About a dozen ethnic groups participated over the past 40 years. Beginning in the week of July 20, 2012, Polish American gamblers and bookies resumed their turn at trying to have me arrested saying that I am a Communist. I live in MA and they are from New York and New Jersey. So when the local and state government criminals can no longer explain why the abuse continues they recruit government criminals from other jurisdictions as now.
That is an answer to why it could happen in America, or Boston or New York and New Jersey. The problem is that people are not informed. They are lied to and misled by criminals, journalists and politicians. Spineless public officials who are paid to protect the public, protect the criminals instead. Citizens who report crime often end up dead. It is a pattern explained in detail by Howie Carr and others who wrote about the Bulger-FBI criminal enterprise. At no time since that was exposed in 1995 was there ever an effort to clean up Massachusetts government, local or state police, or US agencies which operate in the Boston area. The FBI in Boston remains as corrupt as ever.
