Comparative Religion Professor Diana L. "Eck said [. . .] Harvard has a moral responsibility not to
affiliate itself with anyone who expresses hatred towards a minority group. 'There is a distinction between unpopular and unwelcome political
views.'” Why then does the university affiliate itself with the HUPD, Boston FBI, Massachusetts District Attorneys, TV, radio, and print journalists, lawyers and judges who daily insult persons with disabilities? Every time a person is arrested for a violent crime all of the above broadcast the suspect's medical records (a violation of state and US laws) suggesting the suspect shares with all persons accused of mental illness, being violent, dangerous and criminal? Why is that speech not considered to be hate speech? But also what happened to academic freedom? I thought the principle was that faculty members could express opinions in public discourse without being punished? Has Harvard become a benevolent form of the Stalinist University?
