Christie frees man in gun case
* * *It is a difficult decison to make every time. Pursuing a dismissal requires a lot of time, energy, emotion, and effort. If the penalty is severe as in this case it is merited. When the police arrest for minor charges it is a toss-up. But as Aitken says, it does encourage police to make bad arrests for harassment. But they do that anyway. A pervasive problem in the criminal justice system is the refusal of police, FBI and prosecutors to admit when they made a mistake.
[From article]
"When innocent people take a plea deal, they embolden prosecutors to pursue unjust convictions," Aitken said.
