Being Green

Checking out at the store, the young cashier suggested to the much older woman, that she should bring her own grocery bags because plastic bags weren't good for the environment.

The woman apologized and explained, "We didn't have this 'green thing' back in my earlier days."

The young clerk responded, "That's our problem today. Your generation did not care enough to save our environment for future generations."

She was right -- our generation didn't have the 'green thing' in its day.

Back then, we returned milk bottles, soda bottles and beer bottles to the store. The store sent them back to the plant to be washed and sterilized and refilled, so it could use the same bottles over and over. So they really were recycled.

But we didn't have the "green thing" back in our day.

Grocery stores bagged our groceries in brown paper bags, that we reused for numerous things, most memorable besides household garbage bags, was the use of brown paper bags as book covers for our schoolbooks. This was to ensure that public property, (the books provided for our use by the school) was not defaced by our scribblings.

Then we were able to personalize our books on the brown paper bags.

But too bad we didn't do the "green thing" back then. We walked up stairs, because we didn't have an escalator in every store and office building. We walked to the grocery store and didn't climb into a 300-horsepower machine every time we had to go two blocks.

But she was right. We didn't have the "green thing" in our day.
Back then, we washed the baby's diapers because we didn't have the throwaway kind. We dried clothes on a line, not in an energy-gobbling machine burning up 220 volts -- wind and solar power really did dry our clothes back in our early days. Kids got hand-me-down clothes from their brothers or sisters, not always brand-new clothing. But that young lady is right; we didn't have the "green thing" back in our day.

Back then, we had one TV, or radio, in the house -- not a TV in every room. And the TV had a small screen the size of a handkerchief (remember them?), not a screen the size of the state of Montana . In the kitchen, we blended and stirred by hand because we didn't have electric machines to do everything for us. When we packaged a fragile item to send in the mail, we used wadded up old newspapers to cushion it, not Styrofoam or plastic bubble wrap. Back then, we didn't fire up an engine and burn gasoline just to cut the lawn. We used a push mower that ran on human power. We exercised by working so we didn't need to go to a health club to run on treadmills that operate on electricity.

But she's right; we didn't have the "green thing" back then.

We drank from a fountain when we were thirsty instead of using a cup or a plastic bottle every time we had a drink of water. We refilled writing pens with ink instead of buying a new pen, and we replaced the razor blades in a razor instead of throwing away the whole razor just because the blade got dull.

But we didn't have the "green thing" back then.

Back then, people took the streetcar or a bus and kids rode their bikes to school or walked instead of turning their moms into a 24-hour taxi service in the family's $45,000 SUV or van, which cost what a whole house did before the "green thing." We had one electrical outlet in a room, not an entire bank of sockets to power a dozen appliances. And we didn't need a computerized gadget to receive a signal beamed from satellites 23,000 miles out in space in order to find the nearest burger joint.

But isn't it sad the current generation laments how wasteful we old folks were just because we didn't have the "green thing" back then?

Who need lessons in conservation from a smart young persons who can't make change without the cash register telling them how much?

Russia Spent $1B on Mind Control Research

[From article]
Beginning in 1917 and continuing until 2003, the Soviets poured up to $1 billion into developing mind-controlling weaponry to compete with similar programs undertaken in the United States.
While much still remains classified, we can now confirm the Soviets used methods to manipulate test subjects’ brains.
[. . .]

The paper outlines how the Soviets developed “cerpan”, a device to generate and store high-frequency electromagnetic radiation which was used to affect other objects.
“If the generator is designed properly, it is able to accumulate bioenergy from all living things – animals, plants, humans – and then release it outside,” the paper said.
The psychotronics program, known in the US as “parapsychology”, involves unconventional research into mind control and remote influence – and was funded by the government.
[. . .]

The illegal research subjected humans to experiments with drugs, such as LSD, hypnosis and radiological and biological agents. Shockingly, some studies were conducted without the participant’s knowledge.
[. . .]
He also doesn’t detail whether there are ongoing mind-control programs in the US or Russia, but there are suspicions.
Russian President Vladimir Putin made mention of futuristic weaponry last year in a presidential campaign article.
[. . .]
In a more remote future, weapon systems that use different physical principles will be created (beam, geophysical, wave, genetic, psychophysical and other types of weapons). All this will provide fundamentally new instruments for achieving political and strategic goals in addition to nuclear weapons,” [Putin] wrote.

So is this evidence of the actual cause of the Navy Yard Shooting, where Aaron Alexis shot and killed 12 victims after complaining about being targeted by electromagnetic radiation weapons?

The government may be covering up their ongoing illegal experiments on unsuspecting civilians as they did in the 1970s and on less prominent occasions.  See, e.g., Ewen Cameron at McGill University, Michael D'Antonio's
State Boys Rebellion.  They regularly use psychiatry as the panacea to discredit the victim and divert attention from the real culprits. Government researchers never admit unlawful use of human subjects or reveal the fact to persons in the government who would not remain silent. The U.S. government being the cause of random shooting of innocent civilians? Not this government. Ahh-hem!!

Divorcing Dad Throws 3-year-old Son and Self From NYC High Rise

[From article]
Dmitriy Kanarikov, 35, of Brooklyn was supposed to hand over his 4-year old son to his estranged wife at a Manhattan precinct amid a bitter custody dispute between the couple, sources said.
Instead, the systems developer went to the top of the South Park Tower, across from St. Luke’s Roosevelt Hospital on West 60th Street, with his son, Kirill, and pitched the boy to his death before making his own fatal leap.
A source said Kanarikov, an immigrant from the Ukraine, may have had a friend who lived in the building.

Notorious Chicago Woman Arrested For 397th Time

[From article]
At 51, Shermaine Miles likes going to jail.
And she ought to by now - considering she's just been arrested for the 397th time.
Other reports put the figure as high as 446 arrests.
A hated figure on the streets of Chicago's North Side, harassing passers-by and terrorizing the community, Miles has been described as 'a master at working the system'.
She fakes seizures that mean costly hospital visits, only to convince judges to delay her case and return to the streets, where she is arrested again and again, according to the Chicago Sun-Times.
She knows most officers by name and is ranked in in the top 1 percent for all current CPD arrestees.

Palin Defends Duck Dynasty TV Star's Religious Beliefs

[From article]
Sarah Palin says the suspension of one of the stars of the show “Duck Dynasty” over recent anti-gay comments he made is an attack on free speech.
Palin re-posted a picture of her meeting with the stars of the A&E show on her Facebook page Wednesday night, writing that “intolerants” were behind the suspension of the show’s patriarch, Phil Robertson.
“Free speech is an endangered species. Those ‘intolerants’ hatin’ and taking on the Duck Dynasty patriarch for voicing his personal opinion are taking on all of us,” Palin wrote.

Harvard University Fined For Animal Research Abuses

[From article]
an email statement from a spokesperson from the People for the Ethical Treatment of Animals: “For an institution that receives $185 million annually in taxpayer funds alone, half of which is spent on animal experiments, a $24,000 fine for years of abusing and neglecting monkeys won’t motivate Harvard to do better by animals.
[. . .]
Harvard Medical School also released a statement saying the federal fine was appropriate. “The leadership of the school cares deeply about upholding exemplary standards of care,” it said.

At least animals used for experiments get some scrutiny. Harvard's use of human subjects without consent often get no scrutiny at all. The university did not comment on what their standards are for using human subjects without consent.

Obama Commutes Sentence of Deval Patrick's First Cousin

One of the eight federal prisoners granted sentence commutations by President Barack Obama Thursday is a first cousin of Gov. Deval Patrick (D-Mass), one of the president's most devoted supporters on the national political scene.
Reynolds Allen Wintersmith Jr. was sentenced to life in prison after being convicted in Illinois federal court in 1994 of conspiracy to possess with intent to distribute and distribute cocaine and cocaine base and possession with intent to distribute crack. He was 19 at the time of his arrest and 17 at the time he got involved running drugs for the Gangster Disciples gang. He is 39 today and has spent the last 19 years in prison.

Abusing Copyright Laws For Censorship

[From article]
But now Correa has gone international. He’s using phony copyright claims to force American companies such as YouTube and Google to remove videos and documents that criticize his government.
Last month, more than 140 videos posted by Chevron abruptly vanished from YouTube, replaced by notices that said they were yanked due to copyright-infringement claims by a Spanish video-distribution company called Filmin.
[. . .]
But YouTube, like many Internet companies, doesn’t want to get dragged into a potentially expensive and time-consuming lawsuit over somebody else’s copyrights. So it simply took down Chevron’s videos without investigating Filmin’s claim.
[. . .]
If Correa is willing to mess with a $200 billion corporation on the Internet, then he’s certainly not going to hesitate to mess with you.
[. . .]
blogger Steinbaugh. “This abuse is growing. Any person or corporation can misuse this law to punish someone who criticizes them. It’s a real weakness in the law, which offers no incentive for Internet companies to question copyright-infringement claims, no matter how doubtful they are.”

During the few years I posted videos on YouTube, persons claiming to be the "copyright holder" filed complaints with YouTube alleging violations. Under the Digital Millenium Copyright Act, if the provider (YouTube) takes down a video, the poster can appeal. YouTube notifies the "copyright holder" of the appeal. The "copyright holder" has 10 days to go to court to file a complaint. If they do not YouTube must repost the video. It is an inconvenience but it does weed out the fake claims and claimants. After a few months of such complaints I learned it was a Boston Police officer who was making the fake claims. YouTube does not investigate the claimants to ensure they are legitimate.

Proposed Reforms of School Committee Ignore Union Influence

[From article]
But having a City Councilor chair the School Committee is a mistake. City councilors do not run for School Committee. For weeks and months in advance of each election, they speak to residents about issues of zoning, planning, housing, small business development, etc., and hardly ever about schools.
School Committee elections revolve around the schools, and the candidates spend time learning voters’ views on school issues and publicizing their own plans and ideas. Over time, incumbent councilors and School Committee members develop very different areas of expertise. School Committee members become knowledgeable about all of the schools in the system. They learn the school budget process and get to know the strengths and weaknesses of various administrative leaders. They spend a large amount of time becoming well versed about school issues. A number of School Committee members bring institutional knowledge from year to year and have developed long-term expertise about school issues and about parents. They also have an in depth knowledge about teacher and administrator personalities.

Curious that this reform proposal and most all of the election rhetoric omitted any discussion of the role of the eight unions making school policy. Why is that not a matter for concern by voters and elected officials?

Punishing Religious Beliefs

[From article]
It is even worse, of course, when it is the government that penalizes those who hold Biblical views. That should be anathema in America. While A&E exercised its rights, in a growing number of incidents, government has not respected the free-contract and free-speech rights of Americans.
[. . .]
These and other laws are creating a climate of intolerance and intimidation for citizens who believe that we are created male and female, that marriage is the union of a man and a woman, and that sexual relations are properly reserved for marriage. These state and local laws are used to trump fundamental civil liberties such as freedom of speech and the free exercise of religion.

Impeachment of Clinton Needs Thorough Evaluation

[From article]
Some may argue over whether Clinton’s perjury and obstruction of justice amounted to “high crimes or misdemeanors,” but the case needs to be established for the record that Clinton did, without a doubt, perjure himself and obstruct justice. (I believe he also suborned perjury, among other misdeeds.) Moreover, it just wasn’t true that Republicans were obsessed with Clinton’s sexual misconduct; indeed, it was an amazing bit of jujitsu for the Clintonites to make illicit sex a defense,

This gentle man should move for dismissal of all charges based on unequal protection of the laws. Obama enforces and changes laws capriciously, and arbitrarily. Eric Holder enforces civil rights laws in a race based manner, and ignores other laws. Sheriffs across the nation ignore gun control laws. In Cambridge, MA Harvard University ignores inconvenient development laws, state laws on possession of weapons/firearms, U.S. laws on using human subjects for medical research, discrimination laws based on disability and age, housing laws on entering the premises of tenants without permission, i.e., trespass, and assorted other city, state and U.S. laws. Why should this one student be prosecuted for a violation of laws on distortion, misinformation? It is clearly unequal protection of the laws, selective enforcement of laws. It is one more shameful abuse of power and waste of taxpayer funds and tax exemption by this abusive corrupt corporation now worth $32 billion. How often does Obama and Holder mislead the public, lying on national forums? Daily??? How often does the Massachusetts governor, one more Harvard College and Harvard Law School graduate lie to voters? Do city and campus police, lawyers, prosecutors lie? Why is this one gentle man being persecuted for lying?  He did not commit a violent act. All he did was use words to deceive and to mislead. Isn't that what Obama and Holder, campus police, prosecutors do regularly? Is that how the gentle man learned how to lie and to deceive? Is he only imitating the leaders and public safety officers of the nation?

Civil Rights Attorney Harassed by Government Spooks, Liberal TV Propagandists

“This case is based on Larry Klayman’s tin-foil hat paranoia about the NSA being after him. He had some fantasy that the NSA was after him. This case is not about Larry Klayman, it’s about the metadata program that affects everybody, but the idea that Larry Klayman is the representative is simply outrageous,” Toobin said. “He is a professional litigant and lunatic who should not be a representative of the very important issues of this case.”
This is a classic example of how liberals use personal attacks to discredit not only conservatives, but also anyone who disagrees with them. The first rule of propaganda is personal attacks. Socialists and Communists employ propaganda regularly. The dumbed down population of the U.S. is clueless about being skeptical about what politicians and advocacy journalists say. MSNBC is obsessed with leftists propaganda. Klayman showed enormous courage appearing on that misguided television propaganda outlet.

Putin Protects Traditional Values in Cultural Wars

The “destruction of traditional values” in these countries, he said, comes “from the top” and is “inherently undemocratic because it is based on abstract ideas and runs counter to the will of the majority of people.”

Limiting Campus Police Jurisdiction A National Issue

[From article]
Campus police around the country are increasingly expanding their jurisdiction beyond the school and into the surrounding neighborhoods, blurring a town-gown divide that colleges say is arbitrary when it comes to crime.
[. . .]
a proposed expansion of authority has stirred concerns in Washington, D.C., where residents say university police don't have the same level of training or transparency requirements as the city police. Campus police officers in the city have arrest powers on campus but participate in a separate, shorter training academy. And because private colleges generally aren't compelled by public records law to release the same information as public institutions and government agencies, some are concerned about a lack of accountability to the city and its residents.
"If one of their policemen acted inappropriately, there would be hardly any recourse. We'd have no information, no follow-up," said Ken Durham

None of this discussion addresses abuses of power which does happen on occasion by misguided officers. In one case at Harvard University an eager ambitious officer did a prominent professor a favor by arresting a person whose constitutionally protected speech and behavior offended the professor. The University refused to address the abuse of power.

Another element of this is the lack of accountability, and over sight. Private police are answerable only to their employers. Large prominent university corporations, like Harvard University with $32 billion endowment have little respect for eccentric individuals, and critics. They will abuse their power as regular city and state fully trained officers will do. But the lack of accountability creates barriers to uncovering the abuses. At Harvard University, their police have been known to cover up felonies committed by university employees. They also abuse their powers as personal favors. It is important to limit the authority and jurisdiction of these campus police wannabes.

Indian Diplomat Arrested, Strip Searched

[From article]
The row follows the arrest last week in New York of Devyani Khobragade, India’s deputy consul general in the city, who has been accused of visa fraud and of making false statements on an application for her housekeeper to work for her in the US.
Indian officials said she was arrested and handcuffed last Thursday as she dropped off her daughter at school, then strip-searched and kept in a cell with drug addicts before posting $250,000 bail.
[. . .]
A senior member of India’s main opposition party said India should arrest gay partners of US diplomats living in India.
[. . .]
He added: “Now, after the Supreme Court ruling, it is completely illegal in our country. Just as paying less wages was illegal in the US. So, why doesn’t the government of India go ahead and arrest all of them?”

The Indian Government could also argue selective enforcement of laws. Obama and Holder enforce laws capriciously and arbitrarily. Like Harvard University they promote laws as optional. Inconvenient laws may be ignored. These charges should be dismissed.

Dumbed Down Population Clueless

[From article]
Mark Twain and Will Rogers both examined and excoriated politicians of their day in some of the most amusing descriptions imaginable, to the point where their humorous characterizations of politicians have become trite but accurate to this day.
Our decades of cultural laughter over their famous words and routines has unfortunately helped to camouflage the growth and danger of a dominating political class in this nation. This domination, aided and abetted by print, network and movie media enablers, has duped the citizens of this country into thinking our government is the source and dispenser of citizen rights and authority.
Our Constitution has been shape-shifted into a small c word, by virtue of the arrogance of politicians and their powerful bureaucracies controlling an ever-meek citizenry dumbed-downed enough to not know they have the legal authority and control the politicians do not.

Obama Stealing Phrases

[From article]
On the occasion of Nelson Mandela’s death, Obama declared in remarks from the White House: “He achieved more than could be expected of any man. Today he’s gone home. He no longer belongs to us. He belongs to the ages.”
Obama’s eloquence was uncharacteristic, but it was of course borrowed without attribution. He took for the occasion the words reportedly spoken by Secretary of War Stanton at the Petersen House on the death of Abraham Lincoln: “Now he belongs to the ages.”

Journalists As Admired As Lawyers

[From article]
In the Gallup survey, TV reporters were barely more popular than advertising salespeople, state-level politicians, car salesmen, members of Congress, and lobbyists with just 20 percent of respondents saying they had a favorable opinion. They were tied with lawyers.
Print newspaper reporters fared slightly better at 21 points. The most respected professions overall were nurses, pharmacists, grade school teachers, medical doctors, and military officers.

EPA Employee Used Fake CIA Employment To Avoid Work While Getting Paid

[From article]
“With the help of his therapist,” wrote attorney John Kern, “Mr. Beale has come to recognize that, beyond the motive of greed, his theft and deception were animated by a highly self-destructive and dysfunctional need to engage in excessively reckless, risky behavior.” Kern also said Beale was driven “to manipulate those around him through the fabrication of grandiose narratives … that are fueled by his insecurities.”

Here another example of using psychiatry to avoid accountability. At then same time government uses allegations of mental illness to deprive citizens of Second Amendment rights. If anyone with a nexus to psychiatry is arrested, police and prosecutors use the phrase, "a history of mental illness" to describe their suspects. Isn't psychiatry grand? It is the social sciences equivalent of baking soda. It is used for cleaning, for baking, for brushing teeth and to remove rust. The all purpose personal opinion discipline masquerading as science.

Gun Laws Unenforced by Sheriffs in Colorado, Elsewhere

[From article]
Some sheriffs, like Sheriff Cooke, are refusing to enforce the laws, saying that they are too vague and violate Second Amendment rights. Many more say that enforcement will be “a very low priority,” as several sheriffs put it. All but seven of the 62 elected sheriffs in Colorado signed on in May to a federal lawsuit challenging the constitutionality of the statutes.
[. . .]
In New York State, where Gov. Andrew M. Cuomo signed one of the toughest gun law packages in the nation last January, two sheriffs have said publicly they would not enforce the laws — inaction that Mr. Cuomo said would set “a dangerous and frightening precedent.”

If Obama can enforce or not enforce sections of his signature health care law, why is it a problem for Sheriffs to decline to enforce laws they do not like? Law enforcement agencies have legal discretion about what laws to enforce. The president is obligated to enforce the laws by the Constitution.

Fraud Uncovered in Afghanistan. Surprise That Inspector General Keeps His Job

[From article]
the Combined Security Transition Command-Afghanistan — the group in charge of training and developing the Afghan security forces — couldn't account for $230 million in spare parts it had ordered. Meanwhile, another $130 million parts were ordered without anyone knowing if the parts were on-hand or not. As it turns out, the Afghan National Army isn't keeping accurate records of which parts it has in stock, and because the spigot in Washington blasts money as though it were through a fire hose, whenever they need a new part, they just order it and send you the bill.
In a different release, the SIGAR reported that in at least one case, you were paying $500/gallon for diesel fuel. (The market price cap for diesel in Afghanistan is $5/gallon.) You might be surprised to learn that Sayed Bilal Sadath Construction Company, the contractor who received the $300,000 overpayment, hasn't sent it back. And why would they? They were paid $200,000 for thermostats only worth $2,000, and nobody complained.

FBI Enables Dirty Work of NSA

[From article]
When the media and members of Congress say the NSA spies on Americans, what they really mean is that the FBI helps the NSA do it, providing a technical and legal infrastructure that permits the NSA, which by law collects foreign intelligence, to operate on U.S. soil. It's the FBI, a domestic U.S. law enforcement agency, that collects digital information from at least nine American technology companies as part of the NSA's Prism system. It was the FBI that petitioned the Foreign Intelligence Surveillance Court to order Verizon Business Network Services, one of the United States' biggest telecom carriers for corporations, to hand over the call records of millions of its customers to the NSA.
[. . .]
One former law enforcement official said the DITU helped build the FBI's Magic Lantern keystroke logging system, a device that could be implanted on a computer and clandestinely record what its user typed. The system was devised to spy on criminals who had encrypted their communications. It was part of a broader surveillance program known as Cyber Knight.
[. . .]
But having the DITU act as a conduit provides a useful public relations benefit: Technology companies can claim -- correctly -- that they do not provide any information about their customers directly to the NSA, because they give it to the DITU, which in turn passes it to the NSA.
But in the government's response to the controversy that has erupted over government surveillance programs, FBI officials have been conspicuously absent. Robert Mueller, who stepped down as the FBI's director in September, testified before Congress about disclosed surveillance only twice, and that was in June, before many of the NSA documents that Snowden leaked had been revealed in the media. On Nov. 14, James Comey gave his first congressional testimony as the FBI's new director, and he was not asked about the FBI's involvement in surveillance operations that have been attributed to the NSA. Attorney General Eric Holder has made few public comments about surveillance.

College Professor Charged With Homicide Of Man Accused of Raping His Girfriend

[From article]
Prosecutors are calling the murder of Gonzalo Ramirez a 'revenge killing.'
They allege that on 15 April, 1995, a 20-year-old Esparza was at a bar with a group of friends, including former boyfriend Gianni Van, when she pointed out Ramirez, claiming he had raped her in her dorm room at Pomona College a few months earlier.
According to the prosecution, Esparza, Van, Kody Tran, Diane Tran and Shannon Gries followed Ramirez when he left the bar in the early hours of the following morning.
They intentionally rear-ended his vehicle, say prosecutors, forcing him to get out of the car to inspect the damage.
He was then kidnapped. His body was found on the side of Sand Canyon Road in Santa Ana hours later.

Senate Rules Changes Won't Prevent Delays

Senate rules provide other ways beyond the now-curtailed filibuster to obstruct nominees. Hearings can be boycotted. Routine procedural approvals can be withheld. New Capitol Hill ambushes can be plotted, perhaps with tactics not yet seen. For a truly motivated minority, losing one weapon means it’s time to pick up another.

One Person Can Thwart Integrity of Entire Criminal Justice System

She was faking drug tests. That is how one person thwarted all legal protections of a state's criminal justice drug testing laboratory. Here's my question. How many other parts of a local, state or U.S. government have similar negligent or criminal employees with degrees and who are paid six figure salaries who also do not do their job? How many police officers or court officers or lawyers write fantasy reports which remain in computer systems forever? How many EPA officials, inspectional services officers, city clerks, etc?

Blaming Mental Illness As Irrational As Blaming Guns For Violence

If mental illness causes crime and violence it is an easy matter to incarcerate all persons accused of mental illness. There is no causal connection between violence/crime and mental illness. It is an irrational belief promoted by the psychiatric industry and the human services industrial complex (MA State Rep. Marie Parente's term). Conflating mental illness with crime makes it easy to isolate individuals and to discredit them. It is also good for business. Psychiatry was used extensively by Stalin and Hitler to silence critics and to incarcerate them. In Cambridge persons who disagree with liberals are declared mentally ill. Psychiatry is a media creation promoted for 75 years as a business wasting taxpayer money. It is a means of social control with no due process protections. But since laws are optional in Massachusetts what difference does that make?

Lincoln Not Opposed to Secession By Southern States

[From article]
Maryland Rep. Jacob M. Kunkel said, "Any attempt to preserve the Union between the States of this Confederacy by force would be impractical, and destructive of republican liberty." The northern Democratic and Republican parties favored allowing the South to secede in peace. Just about every major Northern newspaper editorialized in favor of the South's right to secede. New York Tribune (Feb. 5, 1860): "If tyranny and despotism justified the Revolution of 1776, then we do not see why it would not justify the secession of Five Millions of Southrons from the Federal Union in 1861."

How NYC Buries Its Poor

[From article]
In the last few years the old cemetery filled up, so the burials moved to Hart Island's south side. In 2010, there were 695 adults and 504 babies buried there. Four days a week, prisoners from Riker's Island lay plain pine boxes into two mass graves. In the adult grave, coffins are stacked three high. It will be filled with between 150 and 165 bodies (depending on the number of extra-wide coffins), plus separate coffins for body parts, and covered with 36 inches of dirt. The other grave, for fetuses and stillborn babies, will be loaded with 1,000 miniature coffins buried five deep. Both trenches are already open, dug by a yellow Caterpillar backhoe.

In 2011 she [Melinda Hunt] founded the Hart Island Project, a charity that helps families around the world search for relatives who went missing in New York, and who may be buried in the potter's field.

Scientists Continue Search For Mind Control Techniques

Doctors in the US have induced feelings of intense determination in two men by stimulating a part of their brains with gentle electric currents.
The men were having a routine procedure to locate regions in their brains that caused epileptic seizures when they felt their heart rates rise, a sense of foreboding, and an overwhelming desire to persevere against a looming hardship.
The remarkable findings could help researchers develop treatments for depression and other disorders where people are debilitated by a lack of motivation.

Hate Speech Leads to Arrests on Boston Bus

Dec. 6 when a man sat in Galloway’s lap. Galloway, after his arrest Tuesday, told cops the man used a homophobic slur.
On the video, police said, a different man is seen pushing a woman and the juvenile is seen holding a steak knife. Someone yelled, “There’s a knife, there’s a knife,” the bus driver told cops. He stopped in front of Dorchester District Court and opened the doors.
The passengers exited and the juvenile “twisted the bottle cap of a Pepsi bottle containing a clear colored liquid as she exited the bus with Galloway,” the report says

Palin Cuts Through The Political Blather, A Tax Is A Tax

Fake Signer At Mandela Memorial Reflects Same Priorities As In Cambridge, MA and At Harvard University

[From article]
Jantjie, who told the press on Thursday that he suffers from schizophrenia and has been violent in the past, stood next to US President Barack Obama and other world leaders and dignitaries during the ceremony honoring the late South African president and civil rights leader in Johannesburg.
His extensive reported criminal background raises additional questions about the security protocols in place at Mandela’s memorial that permitted Jantjie to stand feet from such high profile persons.

Seems like the protocols and public safety priorities in place at the Mandela memorial service where four US Presidents attended is the same as in Cambridge MA and at Harvard University. This gentle man was allowed free movement among the political elite of the world. In Cambridge MA and at Harvard University a 70-year-old white man who was used by the FBI to fight organized crime for 15 years and was not paid one dime, is under 24/7 surveillance, harassed, ridiculed, humiliated, insulted, provoked, slandered, by local police, Harvard University campus police, crime families, and Communists who take turns conducting a 43 year criminal abuse.

All the while the human services industrial complex (MA State Rep. Marie Parente's term), funded with $2 billion in MA taxpayer funds, stands by and watches. The Disability Rights project of the MA Attorney General calls to city officials who change the group conducting the criminal abuses. Can't blame this project. The MA Attorney General runs for Governor. She cannot be expected to address criminal abuses among city or state officials. Not likely to offend any Harvard University police or officials either. In addition she is married to a former now retired supervising Cambridge police officer. So there is little expectation that any police criminals will be held accountable in the state. Attacking an elder person who the police relentless say is disabled is the preferred target for criminal abuse by public officials. They are joined by sociopaths in crime families and their associates who enjoy tormenting vulnerable persons. Isn't that what the human services industry exists for? To identify vulnerable persons who are  likely targets for sadists?

The statement from the star football player came as it's revealed his friends told police they saw the alleged victim 'willingly' give Winston oral sex and then heard her have consensual sex with him in his apartment.
However, the accuser and her family said they were devastated by prosecutor Willie Meggs' announcement, with the woman saying she had 'grave concerns' other rape victims would be discouraged from coming forward as a result.
With no charges against him, Winston will be free to play out the rest of the season with the dominating football team and he went to training today instead of attending the press conference with his attorney, Tim Jansen.

The woman's family has been furious about how police in Tallahassee, Florida, handled the rape case, which was reported in December 2012.
The family says they pushed to have a DNA sample taken from Winston only to be told by a police detective that it would alert Winston and make the case public. The statement released Friday called it 'significant' that the DNA matches Winston.
[. . .]
A detective ‘told the attorney that Tallahassee was a big football town’ and that the victim should give her allegations some thought because ‘her life will be made miserable.’
The case was listed as 'open, status inactive.'

It was only after the Tampa Bay Times broke the story about the allegations against Winston that police referred the case to prosecutors.
The quarterback has been accused of sexually assaulting the woman at an off-campus apartment in the early morning hours of Dec 7, 2012.

New NYPD Commissioner Supports Stop and Frisk

[From article]
Bratton emphatically endorsed stop-and-frisk as a police tactic. “First off, stop-question-and-frisk has been around forever,” he told me. “It is known by stop-and-frisk in New York, but other cities describe it other ways, like stop-question-and-frisk or Terry stops. It’s based on a Supreme Court case from 1968, Terry v. Ohio, which focused very significantly on it. Stop-and-frisk is such a basic tool of policing. It’s one of the most fundamental practices in American policing. If cops are not doing stop-and-frisk, they are not doing their jobs. It is a basic, fundamental tool of police work in the whole country. If you do away with stop-and-frisk, this city will go down the chute as fast as anything you can imagine.”

Printer 3-D Copier Can Make Working Rifle

[From article]
It takes $452 and just 24 hours to build a semi-automatic rifle that falls outside of law enforcement’s radar — thanks to modern technology.
Gilman Louie, a San Francisco venture capitalist who used to run the CIA’s venture arm In-Q-Tel, said he used a 3D printer to make part of an AR-15 that would normally come with a serial number.
Louie got around the restrictions with the help of his Makerbot printer.
Such printers let people make three-dimensional objects from designs created with software.

Fear Of Being Single Keeps People In Bad Relationships

[From article]
over 18 percent admitted they were scared about "spinsterhood" and being alone when they died. Another 6.6 percent of mostly younger responders said they were afraid of being lonely as they grew older.
In subsequent experiments and surveys, researchers discovered that both men and women were so scared to be single that they were willing to stay in unfulfilling relationships, and people who had fears of being alone were less likely to get out of a bad relationship.

The study was published in the December issue of the Journal of Personality and Social Psychology.

Obama Poor Choice For First Black President

[From article]
Obama has charisma and charm, but in terms of character, values, experience and understanding, he is no Jackie Robinson. In addition to those deficiencies, Obama became the first person in U.S. history to be elected to the highest office in the land while having a long history of associations with people who hate our nation, such as the Rev. Jeremiah Wright, Obama's pastor for 20 years, who preached that blacks should sing not "God bless America" but "God damn America." Then there's Obama's association with William Ayers, formerly a member of the Weather Underground, an anti-U.S. group that bombed the Pentagon, U.S. Capitol and other government buildings. Ayers, in the wake of the 9/11 terrorist attack, told a New York Times reporter, "I don't regret setting bombs. ... I feel we didn't do enough."
[. . .]
But there's one excuse black people can make; we can claim that Obama is not an authentic black person but, as The New York Times might call him, a white black person.

Lesbian Waitress, Lied About Anti Gay Receipt, Fired

[From article]
Dayna Morales, a 22-year-old former Marine, claimed last month that a family of four who racked up a $93.55 bill at the Gallop Asian Bistro in Branchburg, N.J., left her no tip, only a note saying they couldn’t leave any extra cash for her service because they “do not agree with your lifestyle.”
Morales quickly emailed the story to a gay advocacy website and later posted a photograph of the purported check on her Facebook page. The alleged incident made national headlines and resulted in thousands of dollars being donated to Morales, who said she would send all proceeds to the Wounded Warrior Project.
[. . .]
The couple accused of leaving the note for Morales has since denied doing so, telling NBC 4 New York they did in fact leave an $18 tip on the $93 bill. The unidentified couple also provided the station a credit card statement that indicated the tip, according to the report.
NBC News has also reported that a Pentagon source said Morales was dismissed from the Marine Reserve Corps in May because she was not attending drills and that she was discharged under “less than honorable” conditions.

New Science May Lead To Mind Reading

[From article]
Using a novel method, the researchers collected the first solid evidence that the pattern of brain activity seen in someone performing a mathematical exercise under experimentally controlled conditions is very similar to that observed when the person engages in quantitative thought in the course of daily life.
“We’re now able to eavesdrop on the brain in real life,” said Josef Parvizi, MD, PhD, associate professor of neurology and neurological sciences and director of Stanford’s Human Intracranial Cognitive Electrophysiology Program. Parvizi is the senior author of the study, to be published in Nature Communications.
[. . .]
The finding could lead to “mind-reading” applications that, for example, would allow a patient who is rendered mute by a stroke to communicate via passive thinking. Conceivably, it could also lead to more dystopian outcomes: chip implants that spy on or even control people’s thoughts.

According to documents filed in federal court, a 16-year-old girl who had gone missing told police that the officer bought sexy clothes for her and set up a “date” for her with an older white male for $80. The girl, who had been missing for a week, told police that six other women had also worked out of the home in the 3066 Stanton Road SE.
The incident comes just four days after the arrest of another D.C. police officer who was accused of taking nude pictures of a runaway teenager after she returned home. Police are investigating whether the two cases are related.

The investigation comes just days after another 7th Division officer, Marc Washington, 32, was arrested and charged with child pornograpy for allegedly taking nude pictures of a 15-year-old girl after she had returned home after being reported missing.
Prosecutors say he told the girl he had to take photos of her injuries, even though she protested she didn't have any. He made her take off her bra and boxer shorts and photographed her.
At a hearing Thursday, it was revealed Washington had hundreds of similar pictures on a digital camera, some of domestic violence victims.
Authorities say the two cases are unrelated.
D.C. Police Chief Cathy L Lanier said in a statement that the department 'is very concerned about the recent allegations of egregious conduct.'
