Unhealthy Relationships Bad For Health. Better To Be Alone

As the saying goes about some relationships, "It is better to have loved and lost." (Mr. Wisdom Heehee.)

[From article]
It's been the punchline of many a best man's speech over the years but now it's official.
Experts say it is better to be single than be involved in a poor-quality relationship.
A study found that being trapped in an unhappy partnership is so damaging to a person's health, they would be better off alone.
What's more, it gets worse the longer you are together, the researchers concluded.
Happily, they found that the reverse is also true – that being in a high-quality relationship benefits your physical and mental health.
The research team from the University of Buffalo in New York studied the relationships of young people from rural Iowa.
The subjects were from two-parent, married families, but the majority were not married.
With growing numbers of people now choosing to put off marriage in favour of more casual relationships, the scientists wanted to look at the impact this had on their health.
They asked the participants about the quality of their relationships, questioning how committed they were, how they dealt with criticism, and the support and affection they gave and received.
The team also asked how the partners behaved outside of the relationship – including whether they engage in risky behaviour.
Ashley Barr, assistant professor in the university's department of sociology, said the research showed that the longer people are in high-quality relationships – or, alternatively, the faster they got out of low-quality partnerships – the better their health.
'Health benefits begin to accrue relatively quickly with high-quality relationships and supportive contexts,' she said.
'And then we see detrimental effects from low-quality relationships - particularly, those low-quality relationships that last a long time.'
Professor Barr added: 'The findings suggest that it's better for health to be single than to be in a low-quality relationship.
'It's not being in a relationship that matters; it's being in a long-term, high-quality relationship that's beneficial.
'Low-quality relationships are detrimental to health. The findings suggest that it's better for health to be single than to be in a low-quality relationship.'
Dr Barr said relationships tended to change the older people became.
'It's rare today for young adults to enter a romantic relationship and stay in that relationship without ever changing partners or relationship characteristics.
'We now have two studies that found similar patterns and similar implications for those changes.'
The study was published in the Journal of Family Psychology.

Feminism And Male-Female Relations, New Book

[From article]
Tied Up in Knots by Andrea Tantaros discusses relations between men and women in America, and how they have become dysfunctional. The changes within the feminist movement have affected how each gender reacts towards each other regarding intimacy, authenticity, kindness, respect, discretion, and above all commitment. Readers should know her as one of Fox News most informative commentators and a co-host of the show Outnumbered.
[. . .]
The book shows the hypocrisy of those claiming women's rights. Tantaros feels the glass ceiling is being chipped away, "being replaced by a glass floor. There are females who stand in the way of their own. I write in the book about Madeline Albright's treatment of women when she said, 'There's a special place in hell for women who don't help other women.' Then there was feminist Gloria Steinem who actually insulted women, claiming 'Young women back Bernie because the boys are with Bernie.' I guess women do not have a right to choose when it comes to our political choices. If you disagree with Hillary Clinton and do not want her to be President you appear either sexist or self-loathing."
[. . .]
The chapter, "Twisted Sister," is very compelling. Tantaros feels "women summits, sisterhood, everyone sticking together, just does not exist. I put the quote in the book, 'Men, don't bother trying to understand women. Women understand women and they hate each other.' Historically women competed for other women over a man. But now the cattiness has exploded because we are all competing not just in our personal lives, but also in our professional lives. We talk about 'mean girls' as we listen to these hypocrites say that women need to stick together. The sisterhood is such a sham and never existed. We all don't have to get along or be friends, but we should not treat each other as enemies. We should respect one another."
Yet, how many feminists speak out against radical Islam? When asked, she noted, "I think it is so disgraceful that we have heard so little from the women's movement in this country against radical Islam. We heard very little from Hillary Clinton's State Department, not a peep from women's magazines, and nothing from this administration. We have ignored what happened in Germany, Sweden, and England. Law enforcement and the media covered it up. Remember the female reporter who was gang raped in Egypt? Where is she now and what happened to her? The press would rather ignore stories like this and focus on how terrible are Republican men. It makes my blood boil."
The book also goes into a lot of detail about how women are sending mixed messages to men. She writes of Girls actress Zosia Mamet comments in Marie Claire about the loss of romance and old-time dating rituals. Mamet wrote, "Not that long ago a guy spent the night with me. We went to breakfast the next day. The check came. I went to the bathroom, came back. It was still there… Seeing my confusion, he said he didn't want to offend me by paying on 'my side of town'-So he's thinking I'd be offended, and I'm thinking, if you've already Lewis-and-Clarked my body, maybe buy my oatmeal."
She commented, "Women need men. We want a soulful, sexy, and inspired union that can help us realize our full potential in life. We want our mate to be our best friend, an emotional and spiritual confident, an intellectual counterpart, and who loves us with a passion. As I write in my book, I agree with both Sheryl Sandberg who said in her book, Lean In, the most important thing a woman could do is to choose the right husband, and Patti Stranger, the famous matchmaker, who echoes this thought when she said, 'women, you cannot have your penis and eat it too.'"
Tied Up in Knots is a shocking, funny, and honest narrative about today's gender gaps. It is insightful, informative, and relevant to what is happening currently in the world. Anyone wanting to understand women of the 21st Century should read this book.

Improving and Maintaining Relationships

Saying thank you and showing appreciation is a gesture that can transform your relationship, says Tracey (Pictured posed by models)

[From article]
We hear lots about the millions of pounds poured into studies on sex and love in a bid to make us happier in our relationships every year.
But here’s some key findings from the last year of research and how to make them work practically for you.
[. . .]
It’s not the amount of money each of you has that predicts the success of a relationship, it’s how you manage it.
A significant study by the Federal Reserve Board in the US found couples who have similar credit scores have a higher chance of making it long term than those who don’t.
The better your score, the better your chances. Which makes sense when you think about it.
Managing finances requires maturity, being able to resist instant gratification and planning for the future: all are also good relationship skills.
[. . .]
No surprises that communicating effectively and regularly once more turned up in research to be integral to relationship satisfaction.
But research by US psychology university professors (Drexel University) found couples who ‘sexted’ each other – sent sexually explicit or suggestive texts or photos – were more sexually satisfied than those who didn’t.
The professors found a ‘robust relationship’ between sexting and relationship happiness which is good news because 82 per cent of us sexted in the last year (though, sadly, not all were sent to our partner!)
[. . .]
Rather than berate your partner for not doing something/thinking something/behaving in a way you wouldn’t, accept that they’re different and allow them to be.
[. . .]
expressing appreciation through every day gestures – like making a cup of tea or actually saying ‘Thanks for doing that’ – meant more than grand declarations or expensive gifts and holidays.

[. . .]
avoid the same old routine and do something fresh and different once a week.

New Book Discussion On US-Israel Relationship

[From article]
One of the most important points to be made in the book is that presidents, such as Eisenhower, Nixon, Carter, Bush 41, and Obama, were not successful when they chose to redefine the relationship with Israel in order to gain with the Arabs. Yet, those presidents who cooperated with Israel did not have the expected negative fallout with the Arab countries. Ross emphasizes in the book, “As the scope of U.S. strategic and military cooperation with Israel has grown to unprecedented levels, the U.S. presence in a number of Arab Gulf states has also dramatically increased.”
[. . .]
Regarding the Palestinians, President Obama, according to Ross, “sees them as too weak to criticize and therefore reserves his criticism for Israel. The problem is when you give them a pass it becomes difficult for them to compromise because they also see themselves as the victim. If you always give them a pass and never hold them accountable why would they change their behavior? I remember commenting, if they are too weak to be criticized, to weak to be held accountable, then they are too weak to have a state.
[. . .]
Doomed to Succeed offers compelling advice on how to understand the priorities of Arab leaders, Israel, and how future administrations might best shape U.S. policy in that light. This book is a must read for anyone interested in understanding the U.S.-Israel relationship.

Online Flirting Has Same Effect As Physical Cheating

Tracey says that if we get away with cheating it can make us judge our partner for being too naïve.

[From article]
The average person who uses social media has romantic or sexual conversations with two people other than their current partner.
These results from a new US study (University of Indiana) echo many others: that 'remote infidelity' - loving or sexual interaction that doesn't involve physical contact - is on the rise.
But the jury divides sharply on the effect this will have on our relationships.
[. . .]
Good relationships are based on mutual admiration and respect, not pitying your partner or secretly thinking they're stupid.
My conclusion?
I'm sticking with what I've always said about infidelity.
If you want to know if what you're doing is cheating, ask yourself this question: Would my partner be upset if they could see what I'm doing right now?
If you answer yes, then you're cheating.
Continue doing what you're doing after you've answered yes and you're effectively saying 'I don't care about my partner's feelings'.
In person or online, let's not kid ourselves. It all means something.

US Israel Relations, Why Does Kerry Impose Double Standard On Israel?

[From article]
Earlier on Friday, Ynet revealed that the Obama administration refused the Israeli defense minister's request to meet with other top officials, including Vice President Joe Biden, Secretary of State John Kerry, and the National Security Advisor Susan Rice.
Since then, reports have said the same officials tried to prevent Ya'alon from meeting with the US' UN ambassador Samantha Power – and when the two did meet, Ya'alon reportedly heard mostly of Power's objection to settlement construction.
During the last bout of US-led peace talks, Ya'alon dubbed Kerry's diplomatic efforts "obsessive and messianic," saying "Kerry should win his Nobel and leave us in peace." Ya'alon's current treatment is said to be an attempt to settle the score.
Ya'alon did hold a successful meeting with his US counterpart, Chuck Hegal, indicating that the reason for the cold shoulder was more a testament to personal tensions between Ya'alon and the White House than an attempt to sabotage Israel's relations with the US.
[. . .]
Ya'alon also infuriated officials in Washington with comments accusing the administration of being weak on Iran and by questioning the US commitment to Israel's security. That followed reports that Ya'alon had criticized Kerry for being unrealistic and naive in trying to forge an Israeli-Palestinian peace deal.

John Kerry (left), with Benjamin Netanyahu

[From article]
Like a regular mantra, US Secretary of State John Kerry has a habit of saying that the Israeli-Palestinian issue cannot remain unchanged.
Strangely enough, he isn't saying that about the conflict in Syria, where the death toll has already crossed the 200,000 mark with people being slaughtered, beheaded and dying in different ways, on its way to the 250,000 mark; he isn't saying that about four million refugees from Syria and 10 million displaced people; he isn't saying that about the Islamic State, which is beheading people and butchering minorities; he isn't saying that about Iraq, which has been torn into pieces, or about Baghdad's airport which is about to fall into the hands of jihadist terror.
He isn't saying that about Libya either, a country controlled by a coalition of insane jihad organizations, on the verge of Europe. He isn't saying that about Yemen, which has died and is controlled by wild tribes navigated from behind the scenes by the "smiling" Iran; he isn't saying that about the intolerable uranium enrichment in Tehran, which has him and the West wrapped around its little finger.
He isn't saying that about Russia either, which not only conquered eastern Ukraine, but also annexed the huge Crimea region. It isn't an "occupation," after all; that only exists in Israel.

Fear Of Being Single Keeps People In Bad Relationships

[From article]
over 18 percent admitted they were scared about "spinsterhood" and being alone when they died. Another 6.6 percent of mostly younger responders said they were afraid of being lonely as they grew older.
In subsequent experiments and surveys, researchers discovered that both men and women were so scared to be single that they were willing to stay in unfulfilling relationships, and people who had fears of being alone were less likely to get out of a bad relationship.

Building A Women's Commission Empire

[This letter was published in the print edition of The Cambridge Chronicle on Thursday October 18, 2012, page A11.]

Cambridge Officials are on the cutting edge of increasing government intrusion into the lives of citizens. Simultaneously they demand more funding, always in the name of good. "Leah Cefalo, of the Police Department, said [. . .] the pressures of the recession make it harder for victims to leave their abuser. [. . .] because of the economy [. . .] there’s a depletion of resources.” Should there be higher taxes on the rich to fund assistance to women in bad relationships?

"what is the role of government when you’re not safe in your home?” said Councilor Marjorie Decker. Police and the courts cannot act without jurisdiction, a concept Marjorie Decker has had difficulty understanding for many years. Where is jurisdiction for government to come into homes to watch for domestic violence? Was the Fourth Amendment repealed again? I thought women and homosexuals wanted government out of the bedroom, and off of their bodies?

Executive Director Risa Mednick said "economic stresses on the family are exacerbating domestic violence, very broadly (broadly?) defined, [. . .] the people who are coming to us for assistance are poorer than ever before.” Is this about women or poor people? Are only poor women abused by poor men? Is the women's commission lobbying for higher taxes or for a better economy? Do women's advocates work to elect Romney? There is more money available for such services when the economy is thriving. Or does the Commission demand higher taxes of the rich to pay for the abuses of the poor?

Although "the Cambridge Police Department has not reported any increase in the number of reports of domestic violence since 2004" Nancy Ryan (didn't she retire?) sounds the alarm saying "the courts are still receiving requests for restraining orders every day and families who can’t afford to separate are staying together even though there’s violence in the home,” [Nancy] Ryan said. “We have to find the next new level of prevention." Is not getting married a form of prevention of domestic abuse? Do women need help making choices about the men they date and marry? Does the Commission promote that form of prevention? Does Ryan encourage splitting up families? Isn't that the reason for not deporting illegal aliens? How can she be so cruel?

This sounds like "We demand more funds to hire more commissioners, and to buy more safe houses for the empire we want for the women's commission. The police and the courts and those evil men are discriminating against us again. And we don't want those ugly breeders to talk to us, or we'll call the police.

Never touch the remote, doesn't care about football and can snuggle as you watch romantic movies? Get a dog.

Content to get on your bed and warm your feet and you can push off if he snores? Get a dog.

If you want someone who never criticizes, doesn't care if you're fat or ugly, who loves you unconditionally, perpetually? Get a dog . . .

Youth Seek Sex Not Love

[Final paragraph of article]
NPR failed to answer the big questions behind this story: What happened in society that makes young adults afraid to trust each other with their emotions? What changed so that getting busy with a random person is now more favorable than looking for a person to build and share a life? Is this simply a way of avoiding the responsibilities of adulthood?

[Answer]
The greatest harm results from good intentions. Psychiatrists demonize emotions, and made them into mental illnesses. Depression a common human experience not mental illness. Hate is targeted for elimination by non profit corporations. Government appropriates grants to eliminate hate and racism. In order to succeed humans must be eliminated. Along with humans come a full set of emotions. They are neither good nor bad, but as Plato suggested must be recognized, understood and controlled. Psychiatrists claim superior knowledge about what is best and teach that emotions are bad. They manipulate humans emotionally for control and for profit. Is the growth of psychiatry in any way connected to the fear of youth to experience emotions?
