Lawyers for the alleged rape victim at the center of a now-retracted Rolling Stone article about the University of Virginia have practically admitted she made up the persona of her attacker.
In November 2014, Rolling Stone published an article on rape culture at the Charlottesville school that centered on the experiences of a student named 'Jackie' who claimed she was gang-raped by a group of fraternity brothers in an initiation ceremony. Jackie told reporter Sabrina Rubin Erdely that she was lured to the frat house by one of the brothers, a student named Haven Monahan who she met in chemistry class.
The magazine was later forced to retract the article when independent investigations by the Charlottesville Police, the Washington Post and Columbia University found Jackie's story was unsubstantiated. Police also were never able to find evidence that anyone matching Haven Monahan's description even existed.
Following Rolling Stone's embarrassing retraction, UVa associate dean Nicole Eramo filed a defamation lawsuit against the magazine for their negative portrayal of her in the piece.
Then, last month, Eramo's lawyers made a stunning revelation in court documents, saying they found evidence that the email address belonging to Haven Monahan was accessed via the internet network at Jackie's lawyers' law firm in March - suggesting Jackie created the email herself and perhaps the entire persona of Haven.
On Tuesday, Jackie's lawyers responded to the accusations, saying they had indeed signed into the email account. Still, they refused to go so far as to admit that Jackie made up Haven's persona, as Eramo's lawyers allege.
One of Eramo's lawyers, Libby Locke, told The Washington Post that the filing shows her lawyers 'admit accessing it, which means Jackie is Haven, a point they’ve refused to answer all along.'
Eramos lawyers argue that Jackie made up the persona of Haven Monahan to make Ryan Duffin, another UVa student who Jackie had a crush on, jealous.

“One of the areas of concern that we have is particularly young women coming out of clubs and bars, particularly in Manhattan and certain areas of Brooklyn,” the top cop said during an interview on WNYC Radio’s “Brian Lehrer Show.” “They’re by themselves and intoxicated getting into a cab . . . and we’ve seen an increase in assaults in those instances, so we’re encouraging women to adopt the buddy system.”

The number of reported rape cases climbed 6 percent last year, with stranger rapes rising 49 percent, from 110 in 2014 to 164 in 2015, officials have said. Of those stranger rapes, about 9 to 10 percent of them were attacks by cab drivers, a significant increase from years past, according to police.
While there have been two driver-related assaults since Jan. 1 alone, New York women weren’t so supportive of Bratton’s solution.

I have a problem with any organization judging what is clearly a criminal matter and being the judge and jury of someone's guilt or innocence. We are supposed to be a nation of laws, where anyone accused of a crime is innocent until proven guilty. We have all seen, at some point, videos or pictures of someone clearly committing a crime. The MSM is always very careful to refer to the person committing the crime as the "alleged" criminal or perpetrator. Why should institutions of learning be an exception and be able to follow their own arbitrary rules or the rules of any administration in matters of sexual assault, or any other criminal matter? Why should the alleged perpetrator be considered guilty until proven innocent? If there were a shooting on a campus, wouldn't the police be called immediately and the matter be turned over to the judicial system?

After we rode around for a while, he said he had some records at his room we could listen to in order to kill time. Once we were in his room, he attacked me viciously. I fought and fought, and screamed to the point where I subsequently lost my voice for several days. It was to no avail, as he was considerably stronger than me. When I finally blacked out due to a pillow being pressed on my face, he raped me.
I won't go into all the details of the rape or how I got away, but get away I did, and I ran to my friends, who were waiting for me with the police. When I hadn't turned up at the appointed time, they knew something was wrong and started to search for me. When the police went to his motel room looking for him, they found pieces of the clothes he had ripped off me and chunks of my hair he had torn out.
I was then terrorized for days by phone calls made by him to the motel where I worked, to the point where my employer got someone else to take over my switchboard duties. I also had Ocean City police officers voluntarily driving me each day to work and then back to where I was staying. I was perfectly willing to press charges, but my rapist escaped and returned to his home in Canada, which didn't have extradition for rape.
Sandra Jones appears to be one of a growing number of young women trivializing true rape by crying rape when they get drunk and do something they later regret. By doing so, they ruin young men's lives. These young women should be educated about what sexual assault truly is. Maybe the Obama administration should be educated as well.

Computer science student Zach Anderson, 19, met a girl, 17, on the "Hot or Not?" app. He was from Elkhart, Indiana. She was 20 minutes over the border in Niles, Michigan. They hooked up. Once.
But it turned out the girl was really 14. She'd lied to Anderson and also in her profile. Now Zach sits in a Michigan jail, serving 90 days. When he gets out he will be on the Sex Offender Registry for 25 years.

But court records show that Berrien County District Court Judge Dennis Wiley (who once jailed a woman for 10 days over Christmas because she cursed while paying a traffic ticket in the county clerk’s office) paid none of the participants any mind. At sentencing he told Anderson, "You went online, to use a fisherman's expression, trolling for women to meet and have sex with. That seems to be part of our culture now: meet, hook up, have sex, sayonara. Totally inappropriate behavior. There is no excuse for this whatsoever."

Now, in addition to registering as a sex offender, Anderson will spend five years on probation, during which time he will not be allowed to live in a home where there is internet access or a smart phone. He will obviously have to change his major. And he is forbidden to talk to anyone under age 17, except his brothers.

A Virginia man who spent 29 years in prison for an attempted rape he did not commit has been pardoned by the governor.
It was revealed Michael McAlister, 58, was wrongly convicted in 1986 when a serial rapist, believed to be Norman Bruce Derr, confessed to the Richmond attack in 2004.
Wednesday's pardon comes five days before a scheduled hearing that could have resulted in Michael McAlister being held indefinitely under Virginia's civil commitment law for treatment as a violent sex offender.
Virginia governor Terry McAuliffe said in a written statement that overwhelming evidence shows McAlister is innocent.
McAlister was initially convicted of the February 1986, abduction and attempted rape of a woman who was dragged at knifepoint from an apartment complex laundry room.
The victim identified McAlister as the attacker from a photo lineup that did not include a picture of a serial rapist Derr, who is now believed to be the real perpetrator.
McAlister's sister, Denise Haas, 62, who drove with their mother, Rebecca McAlister to pick him up from prison, told the Washington Post: 'I am one of the happiest women in the whole wide world right now, next to my mother. We're going directly home, so he can eat some of his mother's home-baked cookies.'

McAlister, who had been known to the police for public indecency and drunken incidents, looked remarkably like the police sketch that was later released.

University of Virginia Fraternity Files Defamation Lawsuit Against Rolling Stone Magazine

The fraternity at the center of a now-discredited Rolling Stone rape article says the story was defamatory and reckless and they are pursuing legal action against the magazine.
Phi Kappa Psi said Monday in a statement that the article was viewed by millions, led to members being ostracized and there was vandalism of the fraternity house.
The fraternity's statement came as the Columbia Graduate School of Journalism released a report, saying the magazine's shortcomings "encompassed reporting, editing, editorial supervision and fact-checking."

A man who was wrongfully imprisoned for 21 years for the rape and murder of a mother of four was awarded $6million from the state of Connecticut.


Mr Ireland was imprisoned at the age of 18 for the rape and murder of Barbara Pelkey (left) and was released in 2009 after the Connecticut Innocence Project reviewed his case and initiated new DNA testing.

Kenneth Ireland, 44, was jailed when he was 18 and released in 2009 after DNA tests proved another man fatally beat and raped 30-year-old Barbara Pelkey in Wallingford.
The other man, Kevin Benefield, is serving a 60-year prison sentence for killing the mother-of-four.


Kevin Benefield was found guilty for the murder and is now serving a 60-year prison sentence.

Mr Ireland was issued the award yesterday under Connecticut's wrongful incarceration compensation law.
State claims commissioner J. Paul Vance Jr issued the award to Mr Ireland and said in a report: 'No words or dollar amount will suffice to give him back the time that he lost and the misery that he endured.
'Mr. Ireland was wrongfully convicted and was labeled a murderer and sex offender and was forced to spend a long portion of his life in maximum security prisons.
'He experienced 21 years of violence, sleepless nights and the constant fear and hopelessness that he would die in prison as an innocent man.'
The new DNA testing came after the Connecticut Innocence Project, which looks into potentially wrong convictions, began reviewing Ireland's case in 2007

In 1987 two people came forward to the police and said Mr Ireland and another man had made incriminating statements regarding their involvement in Mrs Pelkey's murder.
A third person came forward a few months later and said Mr Ireland had confessed to the killing.
The third witness later admitted she was drunk at the time and may have imagined that the statements were made.
Mr Ireland was charged based on these witness statements.

A 54-year-old man who spent 14 years in prison for a rape he didn’t commit slapped the city with a federal lawsuit Monday alleging he was done in by false testimony from a Housing Authority detective.
Johnnie O’Neal, of Suffolk County, also names the city Housing Authority detective, Jose Morales, as a defendant in the lawsuit filed in Manhattan federal court Monday and accuses the city on not properly training Morales and other officers on civil rights issues.
O’Neal was convicted of raping a woman at knife-point on an Upper West Side rooftop in 1984, although he and five relatives said he had been at home watching TV.
The Manhattan DA offered O’Neal a two-year plea deal if he copped to a lesser charge. He refused.

Delusional or not, these directives will increase litigation, bloat already gigantic public and private bureaucracies even more, wrench schools and colleges further from their educational mission, and harden the patently counterfactual ideology of victimization.

Woman Accused Of False Cancer Claims Convicted of False Rape Claims

A Michigan woman accused of lying for years about having cancer was convicted on Thursday in a separate case of falsely accusing two men of rape.
The jury took less than 30 minutes to convict Sara Ylen after a three-day trial in St. Clair County, 60 miles northeast of Detroit.
Ylen was charged with making up a story of two men attacking her in her Lexington home in 2012. Ylen, 38, was also convicted of tampering with evidence after police said she used makeup to create what looked like bruises.
