Diversity Will Rule

[From article]
Nadeem Mazen said he was surprised by the sometimes-overt Islamophobia he encountered while campaigning last fall — as rare as those encounters were.
[. . .]
Mazen said Muslims face more than the sometimes subtle – and sometimes explicit – slights of racism and religious discrimination. As a relatively young immigrant group, Mazen said the community has built robust social and cultural networks, but lagged behind in political participation.
[. . .]
"We’re in a moment in history where there is a lot of secular and interfaith support for a variety of candidates, including Muslim candidates," Mazen said.
That’s important, he said, not only because it generates more diversity in governance, but because that diversity translates into a government system that better represents established social and cultural communities.
[. . .]
Cambridge voters were able to recognize the difference between the acts of a few individuals and the Muslim community at large.

Councilor Mazen says, Cambridge voters are rarely Islamophobic, but "recognize the difference between the acts of a few individuals and the Muslim community at large." Oh? So why don't Muslim public officials "recognize the difference between the acts of a few individuals and the [non] Muslim community at large?" Are all non Muslims in Cambridge Islamophobes?

He adds "Muslims face more [. . .] slights of racism and religious discrimination." But he does not identify "more than what?" Jews? White Christian heterosexual males?

Nazem says, "diversity translates into a government system that better represents established social and cultural communities."  But he also said, Muslims are "a relatively young immigrant group." Then they are not an established community. So how can diversity help Muslims?

OK, so we need more Muslims in government. No more Jews. More homosexuals. More lesbians. No more persons with disabilities, who have too much power now. More black people, especially black homosexuals. More Asian people, especially Asian homosexuals. But enough with the white Christian people, and certainly enough Irish Americans. And far too many Mongols. Remember Genghis? Gasp! I wonder? If it wasn't for all those conservatives and Republicans in Cambridge there would be a unified community with no need to tolerate dissent. But look at how divided the city is: for development; against development. More bikes; less bikes. When there are more Muslims in government we can eliminate the opposition to everything. There will be peace and total agreement. Diversity will rule.
