In this follow-up story about the disabled man shot dead by police the Post reveals that he was "off his meds." Does that mean that the dead man was responsible for his own death? Psychiatric drugs are a known cause of suicide and violence. When will some scrutiny be directed at the criminals in the psychiatric industry. Public spirited professionals in the name of good, force dangerous chemicals into vulnerable persons who are then are killed or kill. Why are psychiatrists not held accountable for the violence they cause?

The NYPD is not trained to make reasonable accommodations for persons with disabilities. About ten years ago a man with a machete in Seattle was subdued by police who used a ladder. But that is too much trouble in NYC where police are always under attack. The bottom line of getting home safe trumps the need to recognize disability when they see it. The pervasive Medieval belief, encouraged by the New York Post, that disability is causally connected to violence makes it acceptable to shoot dead persons with disabilities. If the man with a knife was a professional baseball, football or basketball player would the police have shot him dead without asking that it be dropped a few thousand times?
