Misguided Email From Harvard Housing Regarding Thefts

[Reply to Misguided Email (forwarded below) From Harvard University Housing]

Suggesting that tenants may be responsible for thefts is irrational
and self serving. Harvard employees and contractors are threats to
building security, in spite of many years of complaints and agreement
from Harvard's Office Of General Counsel. It is clear that HUPD and
HUH (formerly HRES) is negligent with building security. Both HUH and
HUPD employees leave doors propped open both to the basement and to
the front of the building.  They allow contractors to leave doors open
for anyone to walk through the building. l've seen contractors testing
tenants doors to see if they are unlocked. The frequent questionable
entries to tenants apartments with alleged Harvard employees is
ludicrous. Landlords are not permitted entry without permission except
in case of emergency. Installing/removing AC units, checking window
balances, checking smoke detectors and fire alarms are not
emergencies. These are unlawful policies of HUH, which hires temporary
employees with no connection to Harvard beyond a t-shirt,  to walk
into tenants apartments. Who are these people? Who wants them in our
apartments? Journalists report that landlords cooperate with police
and the FBI to conduct searches which they could not legally do
otherwise. It appears that this is why there are so many entries to
tenants apartments without permission. Look to HUH and HUPD to reduce
crime. The current lack of training for these two groups is more
likely the cause of thefts.

Attention Tenants: We have received reports of missing packages, which have been delivered to the building. It is a federal offense to take packages/mail that does NOT belong to you.
If any resident is identified with removing packages that does not belong to them, necessary steps will be taken and reports will be made to the appropriate authorities.
In addition, if you are expecting any packages, please inform the delivery company that no packages should be delivered without a signature, to prevent any stolen packages in the future.
