Roosselin E. Altidor faces a murder charge and is being held without bail following an arraignment Monday morning. He allegedly shot Rasaun Nichols, 31, of 59 Columbia St. in Cambridge, several times, including in the head, while Nichols was sitting in the passenger’s seat of a car on Windsor Street on Aug. 12. Nichols died shortly after.
Investigators learned from Nichols’ mother, Robyn Nichols, that Nichols and Altidor had a fight about a month ago in Columbia Park, according to court documents.
Altidor’s girlfriend reportedly called Robyn Nichols shortly before the shooting, asking why Rasaun Nichols was chasing Altidor with a knife. Robyn Nichols told authorities she knew Altidor’s girlfriend from Cambridge and they also worked together at a store in Watertown.
After obtaining a search warrant, police reportedly found a .40 caliber Ruger semi-automatic handgun and .40 caliber ammunition in Altidor’s home on Aug. 14.
Shotspotter, a sensor system set up by the police, detected nine gunshots the night of the shooting, according to court documents. Investigators reportedly recovered nine .40 caliber projectile casings from the scene.
Two troopers from the State Police's Firearms Identification Section tested the Ruger taken from Altidor's home and both believe it was the same gun used the night of the shooting, the report said.
When questioned by police, Altidor said he was home until around 8:30 p.m. during the night of the shooting, at which time he drove to a Watertown mall to pick up his girlfriend from work, the documents said.
According to a Google+ account for “Roosselin Altidor” of Lincoln Street in Medford, Altidor attended Cambridge Rindge and Latin from 2004 to 2007.
Altidor worked at Just-A-Start from 2004 to 2012, according to Google+, where he supervised a group of 15 to 20 teenagers and taught them how to landscape and paint. Representatives at Just-A-Start — a multi-service agency focused on affordable housing, community engagement, workforce development, and educational initiatives — could not deny or confirm whether Altidor had worked there.

Residents in Area Four feel shocked and are demanding answers following the shooting of a 31-year-old man Wednesday night just a few blocks from the site where another man was killed in a drive-by last July.
The victim, Rasaun Nichols, was inside a blue Nissan when he was shot five to eight times, including in the head, at approximately 8:41 p.m. in the vicinity of 119 Windsor St., near the Newtowne Court housing project, according to Jeremy Warnick, director of communications for the Cambridge Police Department.

Last summer, Kensley David, 22, was shot in the head in a drive-by outside of his Windsor Street home. Authorities are still investigating the incident and believe it was not random.
Prior to that, Charlene Holmes, 16, a sophomore at Cambridge Rindge and Latin School, was shot and killed in a drive-by shooting in June 2012 on Willow Street, a few blocks from Wednesday night’s shooting area. Unlike David, Holmes was not the intended target, but the car sped away after shots were fired and neighbors have remained tight-lipped, police said. The homicide remains unsolved.
In 2002, Ricardo Williams was shot in the face while sitting in the driver’s seat of a car, just a few feet from the area where David was shot on Windsor Street. The investigation is still ongoing.
Those are three of the seven unsolved murders the city has seen since 1999.
[. . .]
"There’re a lot of gang members in this neighborhood,” she said Thursday. “Usually, it’s a drive-by shooting. I guess somebody [has] a problem … they just shoot the person.”
The shooting
The operator of the vehicle, a Boston woman, was uninjured and drove away with the intention of taking Nichols to a hospital, but she ultimately stopped in the vicinity of 292 Main St., near the Kendall Square MBTA station, Warnick said.
[. . .]
Aroscoe Thomas, Area Four/Port Community liaison out of the Margaret Fuller Neighborhood House, said the organization is working with the police and community members to curtail violence in the neighborhood.
[. . .]
“It’s still early, and we want to give the police an opportunity to do their work before we start talking too much.”
[. . .]
The Middlesex District Attorney’s Office, Cambridge police and the MIT Police Department are investigating the Cambridge shooting.
