The former mayor of a small Rockland County village was found guilty Monday of public corruption charges — brought down by the same crooked developer who helped land similar convictions for federal authorities against ex-state Sen. Malcolm Smith and ex- Councilman Dan Halloran, both of Queens.
Following a week-long non-jury trial, White Plains federal Judge Colleen McMahon found former Spring Valley Mayor Noramie Jasmin guilty of selling her support for a local community center and catering hall project in exchange for $5,000 in cash bribes and 50-percent ownership in the development.
[. . .]
Jasmin was convicted on mail fraud and extortion charges and faces up to 40 years in jail when sentenced on Aug. 7.
