Ferguson, MO Shooting Autopsy Shows Teen Was Shot At Close Range

[From article]
Michael Brown, the unarmed black teenager who waskilled by a white police officer in Ferguson, Missouri, suffered a gunshot to the hand from close range, according to a copy of the autopsy published by the St. Louis Post-Dispatch.
The autopsy results could support claims by supporters of Ferguson Police Officer Darren Wilson that the Aug. 9 shooting of the 18-year-old was justified.

Wilson had said that Brown had the weapon pressed against his hip and charged at him even after being shot. The officer said the two struggled for the cop’s weapon inside the police SUV. He said he fired two shots and struck Brown in the hand. The teen fled but then turned back and rushed him, prompting Wilson to open fire.
The Brown family lawyer called the account “absurd from beginning to end,” the paper reported. A grand jury is considering charges against the officer.
The autopsy indicates that Brown’s hand was close to Wilson’s weapon, according to forensic experts interviewed by the Post-Dispatch.
It said an examination of Brown’s hand tissue showed particles “consistent with products that are discharged from the barrel of a firearm.” The medical examiner also found that Brown tested positive for marijuana.

The county autopsy report differs in some ways from the autopsy conducted at the request of the family, according to USA Today. That autopsy found that the shots were fired from at least a foot away and as far as 30 feet.
Benjamin Crump, a family attorney, said Wednesday that he and the family don’t trust the autopsy report. The family maintains that Wilson tried to pull Brown into the car and that the teen was killed when, after running away, he turned around and raised his hands to surrender.
