Regarding affirmative action congressional redistricting, according to the figures cited in this essay white people are 48 percent of the 8th Congressional district. Why is there no affirmative action and reparation scheduled for white people in the 8th?

"Sen. Brown objects to gerrymandering that “dilut[es] the voting strength of citizens based on the color of their skin.” But no one involved seems concerned in the slightest with gerrymandering that concentrates the voting strength of citizens based on the color of their skin.

The discussion is analogous to that surrounding affirmative action. If it’s racist to exclude students or job-seekers based on the color of their skin, why should it be praiseworthy to promote applicants based on skin color? Martin Luther King dreamed of “a nation where [his children] will not be judged by the color of their skin but by the content of their character.” Racial gerrymandering makes a mockery of this dream."
