The annual sales tax weekend in Massachusetts was approved by the Legislature last week, but not without some more absurd rhetoric from the hackerama. The solons’ gripe is that not grabbing that extra $25 million from taxpayers to give to non-taxpayers is “throwing it out the window.”
Remember, this is the state that two years ago admitted to annually handing out at least $1.8 billion in welfare to illegal aliens. That of course is money well spent, because it’s for non-working, non-English-speaking non-citizens. What could possibly be fairer than that?

You may be a liberal if you oppose funding charter schools for inner-city kids even as you send your own children to private schools.
You may be a liberal if you support higher taxes but have directed the trustees of your own trust fund to buy only municipal bonds — tax-free munis, that is.
You may be a liberal if you want to ban Christmas trees from the public square as you simultaneously demand prayer rooms for the new Muslim “refugees” in public schools.

UPDATE: Thomas Lee Newman Jr. of Pittsfield was arrested Sunday in Utica, N.Y., according to Berkshire District Attorney David Capeless. Newman will be brought before a Utica court on Monday to answer a charge of fugitive from justice, and local authorities will seek his rendition to Pittsfield, where he faces one count of murder and one count of armed assault with intent to commit murder.

Berkshire District Attorney David Capeless says 18-year-old Thomas Lee Newman Jr. of Pittsfield is wanted on murder and assault charges.
He said Newman is charged with fatally shooting 18-year-old Keenan Pellot Jr. of Pittsfield on Tyler Street. A 17-year-old Pittsfield boy was shot multiple times but is expected to survive.
Pellot's mother, Carey Pilot, tells the Berkshire Eagle (http://bit.ly/1hdwDqN) Newman and her son had known each other since childhood and had argued over "a family issue." She said Newman was in a relationship with Pellot's sister.

In a historic reversal, the Dutch are abandoning government policies in support of multiculturalism and demanding intregration and acceptance of Dutch values from immigrants, mostly Muslims, who now constitute 6 percent of their population.

Immigrants will be required to learn the Dutch language and no exceptions to obedience to Dutch law will be allowed for followers of sharia. In addition, the government will stop subsidizing Muslims and making special criteria for their employment...and will ban the burqa:

The Dutch have tasted the fruits of importing Islamic culture and have decided they don’t want any more. Western Europeans are experiencing similar second thoughts in many countries, including France, Sweden, and Denmark, but so far they have not elected governments willing to take this sort of action. But it is likely that once Holland acts, others will follow.
Now if only the United States gets the guts to insist that those who come here adapt to our ways, instead of vice versa.

Ancient City Of Gath Uncovered In Israel, Home Of Goliath

Prof. Aren Maeir, Director, Ackerman Family Bar-Ilan University Expedition to Gath A recent excavation in Israel has uncovered the historic fortifications and monumental gate of a Biblical-era city called Gath.

[From article]It was the Biblical city where the giant Goliath lived and one of the most powerful in the Philistine empire before it was destroyed in the ninth century BC.
Archaeologists have now uncovered the remains of an enormous gate and fortified wall which are giving clues to just how formidable the city of Gath may have been.
The monumental gate is the largest to ever be found in Israel and much like its most famous inhabitant – Goliath - it would have intimidated any who approached it.
The gate of Gath is referred to in the Hebrew Bible in the story of David's escape from King Saul to Achish, the King of Gath.

Professor Maeir and his colleagues say they have found evidence of the widespread destruction that took place in the city after the siege.
The site has been excavated for nearly 20 years now under the Ackerman Family Bar-Ilan University Expedition.
They have also found evidence of an earthquake which damaged the city in the 8th century BC and may be the disaster mentioned in the Book of Amos in the Hebrew Bible.

A massive gate unearthed in Israel may have marked the entrance to a biblical city that, at its heyday, was the biggest metropolis in the region.
The town, called Gath, was occupied until the ninth century B.C. In biblical accounts, the Philistines — the mortal enemies of the Israelites — ruled the city. TheOld Testament also describes Gath as the home of Goliath, the giant warrior whom the Israelite King David felled with a slingshot.
The new findings reveal just how impressive the ancient Philistine city once was, said lead archaeologist of the current excavation, Aren Maeir, of Bar-Ilan University in Israel.
"We knew that Philistine Gath in the 10th to ninth century [B.C.] was a large city, perhaps the largest in the land at that time," Maeir told Live Science in an email. "These monumental fortifications stress how large and mighty this city was."

The gates were uncovered in Tell es-Safi, which was occupied almost continuously for nearly 5,000 years, until the Arab village at the site was left in 1948, Maeir said. Though archaeologists have been excavating at the site since 1899, it wasn't until the past few decades that they realized how massive the Iron Age remains really were.
Both the impressive settlement size and mentions in biblical accounts suggest to scholars that the site is the historic city of Gath, which was ruled by the Philistines, who lived next to the Jewish kingdoms of Judah and Israel. Most scholars think that Gath was besieged and laid to waste by Hazael, King of Aram Damascus, in 830 B.C., Maeir said.

The mighty fortifications would have formed a rather imposing boundary that prevented the Kingdom of Judah from expanding westward, he added.

An arrest has been made in connection with the grisly murder of Jaimee Mendez, a 25-year-old mother whose remains were found on a Swampscott beach earlier this year.
Jason Fleury, 37, was arrested today in Hampton, Va., after an Essex County Grand Jury charged him with Mendez’s murder, according to authorities. Mendez’s skull and bones were found on King’s Beach in Swampscott on Jan. 28, 2015, after she had gone missing on Nov. 6, 2014.

State police with the Essex District Attorney’s Office — along with police from Swampscott, Salem and Lynn — are searching for Jaimee Mendez, who relatives said was last seen Thursday with a man they later learned was a Level 3 sex offender. Mendez’s sister, Alyssa Mendez, 27, said her sister tried calling more than one person Thursday before she disappeared.
“She called two people — she said she was nervous he was acting weird and wanted to be picked up,” Alyssa Mendez said. “She called a friend … that friend went to pick her up and she never showed. And after that her phone was off and no one has seen her.”

Alyssa Mendez said police have discovered her sister’s sneakers in a trash bin — and her cellphone, charger, identification and a jacket were found by authorities in Salem near Technology Way.

Not everyone agrees with Rep. Rushing that encouraging illegal aliens to move to Massachusetts is what is needed.  He fails to consider the many Americans who were killed, and injured by illegal aliens. Or Americans who are unemployed because illegal aliens took their job opportunities. Rushing fails to include that immigrants arrive in the US contrary to US laws. Neither Rushing or Rosenberg discuss enforcement of current laws. It is more of the Obama-Holder doctrine, which allows elitists to ignore inconvenient laws.

Beacon Hill lawmakers are quietly pushing legislation that could offer sanctuary protections to illegal immigrants across the state, the Herald has learned.
The new legislation, filed by state Rep. Byron Rushing (D-Boston), would ban public agencies from giving or sharing information on illegals with federal Immigration and Customs Enforcement unless forced to do so by a court or a federal order.
The bill also would ensure illegal immigrants have access to state benefits — such as welfare and driver’s licenses — and it would prohibit Bay State employees from denying “assistance, benefit, payment, service or participation in any program or activity” on the basis of immigration status, except as required by federal law.
State Rep. Shaunna O’Connell (R-Taunton) immediately decried the bill, saying, “This will make Massachusetts a sanctuary state that harbors illegal aliens and makes available to them every benefit under the sun.”
“I think this would be devastating to Massachusetts in many ways,” O’Connell said.
The sanctuary aspects of the bill mirror rules in San Francisco, where the July 4 random shooting death of Kathryn Steinle — allegedly at the hands of an illegal immigrant deported five times — brought the city’s lax practices into question.

But Rushing responded to the outcry over his bill, saying it doesn’t ask anyone to break federal laws and that he simply wants to encourage immigrants to move to the Bay State.
“It prohibits barring people on the basis of immigration status,” said Rushing, adding that hot-under-the-collar politicians should “calm down.”
“We want to make sure all people of Massachusetts are here legally, and we do that by helping them become legal citizens,” he said.
Rushing admitted that there is nothing in his legislation to ensure that illegal immigrants are on a path to citizenship before they receive state services, but said he’d be open to adding that language.

Don't know enough about this young lady. But my reaction is that she may have felt humiliated by this young man. Maybe he did consider her a hillbilly, and beneath him. It may be the same class difference (real or imagined) as between Travis Alexander and Jodi Arias. Many people have poor or low self esteem. The testimony in the Arias trial showed that she was devoted to Travis and wanted to marry him. He seemed to be treating her as his sex slave which she was willing to be. She just wanted to marry the guy. When  he expressed his disdain for her, she lost it and killed him. 

That is not to say she was justified in killing him. Nor was Jayna in this murder either. Just that it may explain why it happened, and that there is no method for bringing that into the trial. Classism is seldom discussed or mentioned when it comes to bias and discrimination. If these men had expressed their dislike for the women for being black or lesbians they might have been able to use that bias, hate speech, as justification for murder. "He insulted me. He called me a N-word." "He called me a hillbilly." and "He called me a cripple." do not work as easily.

The night that Ryan Poston was shot dead by his on-again, off-again girlfriend he was supposed to meet a former Miss Ohio 2012 beauty queen for a date, an Ohio court heard on Thursday.
Audrey Bolte, who also finished runner-up in Miss USA, told prosecutors she was looking forward to seeing Poston, 29, at a bar to play pool and drink on October 12, 2012, but he failed to arrive.
That was because Shayna Hubers had shot him six times at home - during which she allegedly 'cackled' with glee claimed a cellmate of the accused, who claims the 24-year-old confessed to her while behind bars.

Prosecutors allege that Hubers shot Poston because she was furious he was trying to break up with her.
Hubers, who was 21 at the time, denies murdering her lawyer boyfriend and claims she shot him in self-defense.
Her trial began on Monday and during that time, Hubers has been held at the Campbell County jail in Newport.
Her romer cellmate testified to the court that Hubers joked about the shooting and said she was going to get off all charges.
'Did she ever laugh?' Commonwealth's Attorney Michelle Snodgrass asked Cecily Miller according to Cincinnati.com.
'Oh, yes.'
'About what?'
'About shooting him in the face and giving him the nose job he always wanted,' said Miller. 'That's what bothered me – she cackled.'

Also on the stand was Vernon West, who lived in the condo below Poston with his wife Doris.
They testified they returned home at around 8.30pm and heard a woman crying on a balcony above.
West said that she returned inside the home at around 8.50pm and then he heard two pops that at first he thought were fireworks and then four more and then a thud.
'The first two shots, I thought might have been fireworks,' Vernon West testified according to Cincinnati.com.
'But a few seconds later, I heard four shots, and I knew that wasn't fireworks.'
Vernon West also said that they did not hear a physical fight or arguing before the shots.
Hubers, who was 21 at the time, claimed she was acting in self-defense because the young attorney was shoving and hitting her, but during an interview with police she was quoted as telling a detective she gave Posten 'the nose job he wanted.'
On the first day of testimony Tuesday, jurors were shown a video of the defendant's interview with police following the slaying.
'He was screaming at me at the top of his lungs after he had thrown me around the room,' the woman told a detective sitting across from her, reported Cincinnati.com.
'I shot him enough times to kill him,' she said, 'so that he wouldn't suffer... He was laying there, twitching and making noises, and I shot him in the head.
'I was watching him die. it was painful to watch him die and to know that I had done that,' reported WCPO.
Hubers then described her late boyfriend of one year as 'vain' about his looks.
'I shot him right here,' she said in the video as she pointed to her nose. 'I gave him his nose job he wanted.'

'He said, 'You're just a hillbilly from Kentucky.' And I am. I guess the hillbilly came out in me, and I took up for myself,' she told police in the recording played in court.

Hubers graduated from Lexington's Paul Laurence Dunbar High School in 2009.
In the fall of 2010, she made the Dean's List at the University of Kentucky as a sophomore psychology major. Zevely said she is close with her parents, and her mother spent the day with her in Northern Kentucky prior to the shooting.

The man accused of brutally killing American marketing executive Gabriela Kabrins at a luxury resort in South Africa is the troubled 'black sheep' of a billionaire family, Daily Mail Online can reveal.
Guatemalan playboy Diego Dougherty, 41, was charged with murder after his girlfriend Gaby's body was found along with a large quantity of cocaine in their hotel room in the affluent Cape Town beachside suburb of Camps Bay last Wednesday.
He is now being treated in a prison hospital for 'emotional reasons' following at least two fainting spells since his arrest.
Police say 39-year-old LA-based Kabrins was severely beaten and suffered an horrific sexual assault before being strangled to death at the five-star Camps Bay Retreat Boutique Hotel.[. . .]
Daily Mail Online can now reveal that prime suspect Dougherty is a member of the Dougherty Novella clan - one of the most powerful families in Central America, whose cement business is estimated to be worth billions of dollars.

Family sources tell Daily Mail Online that murder suspect Dougherty is the 'black sheep' of the super-rich clan - a drug-addicted playboy who has never worked and who is regularly bailed out of trouble by his family.
Investigators in South Africa believe Kabrins's death resulted from a drug-fueled sex session gone wrong.
Dougherty was arrested after he was spotted wandering on a nearby beach following the discovery of Gaby's body.
It is believed Kabrins, who was of Mexican descent and spoke fluent Spanish, originally met him in the US when they were younger and they recently reconnected through social media.
A friend said she was in love with Dougherty and regularly visited him for long periods in Guatemala.
The pair first met at Pepperdine University in Malibu and Dougherty spent a number of years in the US - where the Dougherty Novella family owns homes in New York, Miami and Los Angeles.

Gabriela Kabrins Alban, 39, of Los Angeles, was found dead at about 3 p.m. in her room at the Camps Bay Retreat, a luxury boutique hotel where rooms cost up to $10,000 per night. Police spokesperson Noloyiso Rwexana declined to say Alban died or confirm reports she was sexually assaulted, but said her death is being treated as a case of murder. A 41-year-old suspect identified in local reports as Diego Guarte, a Guatemalan national, was under arrest in connection with the case.

Apparently Donald Trump might build an administration based on competence and merit, not patronage. American voters seem to be going off the grid in search of such a candidate.

The stage is being set for a genuine clash of cultures in America, a real choice between an unapologetic socialist and an unapologetic capitalist. After 50 years of cultural ambiguity and moral relativity, the American voter seems to be seeking clarity, a national vote on genuine ideological futures.

At the moment Mr. Trump has the floor. On Thursday night he has the privilege of setting the tone, the vector of the 2016 presidential election. Make no mistake, the only real issue in this first debate is Donald Trump. He doesn’t need to cross swords with Republican competitors on issues so much as float above the internecine fray and eviscerate the Obama/Clinton record -- or raise the specter of Bernie Sanders as Santa Claus in waiting.

Disagree with what?
Even if you buy Johnson's intellectually feeble claim that the Koran-quoting, Allah-praising, Halal-keeping members of Islamic State have "no connection to Islam," they certainly believe they do. Denying a connection between al Qaeda and Islam would be like denying any connection between the Christian Identity movement and Christianity. The typical Christian understands that, which is why they don’t object.
Even more disturbing (and once again, watch the video for yourself), Johnson says he can't call Islamic terror "Islamic terror" out of deference to American Muslims because they won't cooperate with homeland security efforts if he does. Furthermore, he should apologize to Mr. Steinle and all of us who lost loved ones because of an illegal alien. A few days earlier he spoke about the killing of Kate Steinle and called it a ‘little thing.’

According to witnesses, at roughly 4 A.M. Friday morning, two masked men arrived at two homes in the village of Douma, not far from the settlement of Migdalim. They sprayed painted graffiti reading "revenge" and "long live the Messiah" in Hebrew, breaking the windows of the homes and throwing two firebombs inside.
One of the two homes was empty at the time, but there was a family in the second: 18-month-old Ali Saad Daobasa, his father Sa'ad, mother Reham, and 4-year-old Ahmed.
The four were evacuated to a hospital in Nablus in the West Bank and then to the burns unit at Sheba Medical Center, Tel Hashomer.
The Israel Defense Forces subsequently confirmed that 18-month-old Ali died in the attack, and that Jewish extremists are suspected to be behind the attack.

Local resident Mesalem Daoubasah, 23, said he saw four settlers fleeing the scene, with several local residents following in pursuit. According to Daoubasah, the settlers fled toward the settlement of Ma'aleh Ephraim.

A Palestinian youth has been shot dead by Israeli soldiers during a clash following the death of a toddler in a firebombing attack on his home.
The youth died at a West Bank hospital, just hours after the clash with Israeli troops near Ramallah, said Palestinian hospital officials.
The confrontation was one of three in a matter of hours in which Palestinians were killed on one of the most tense days in the occupied West Bank and the Gaza Strip in recent months.
The Palestinian youth was fired upon by Israeli soldiers after he threw a fire-bomb at them, the military said.

Thoughtful Florida Gentleman Tries To Hijack Car With Two Armed Policemen Inside

A knife-wielding Florida man who attempted a carjacking Thursday night quickly discovered that the vehicle he targeted was an undercover cop car occupied by a pair of armed plainclothes detectives, according to an arrest affidavit.
Dominique Albert, 27, allegedly approached the car on a St. Petersburg street around 9:45 PM and yanked open the passenger door. Albert [. . .] leaned into the auto while holding a steak knife in his right hand.
While Albert’s would-be victims were initially startled by the interloper, they quickly rallied.
“Police!,” shouted Detective Daniel Torok from the driver’s seat as he drew his handgun and leveled it at Albert, who “turned and fled on foot.”

The man accused of killing an officer in Memphis, Tennessee, has surrendered to authorities, but the case is far from over, the city's police chief said.
"This is just the first step in a very long healing process," Memphis Police Director Toney Armstrong told reporters Monday.
Tremaine Wilbourn, 29, turned himself in to federal marshals and was being questioned by homicide investigators Monday evening, Armstrong said. He's expected to be arraigned on Tuesday.
Investigators, who'd warned that Wilbourn was armed and dangerous, had been working around the clock to track him down, the police chief said.
"I think he felt the walls closing in," Armstrong said. "I think he thought that it would probably be in his best interest just to turn himself in."

But even with the suspect behind bars, the police chief noted there's a key question that remains in the case: Why was he on the streets in the first place?
"If he's in jail Saturday night, then we're not here today talking about the death of a police officer," he said.
Wilbourn had been out on supervised release for a 121-month sentence for robbery.
"All the signs were there," Armstrong said. "His actions had clearly demonstrated that he was a violent individual, and I have a thing that I tell people all the time, anybody that robs somebody is one step away from killing somebody."

It started as a regular traffic stop on a weekend night in Tennessee. Officer Sean Bolton saw an illegally parked car on the streets of Memphis, pulled up in front of it and shone his spotlight.
When he approached the vehicle, a passenger confronted him.
A struggle ensued, and the passenger shot Bolton multiple times, authorities said. The car drove off, leaving the officer for dead.

A veteran state trooper is being held without bail pending a dangerousness hearing to determine how he busted his girlfriend's collar bone during a birthday bash that ended with her in the hospital, according to authorities.
State Trooper Corey D. Benoit, who turned 36 yesterday, appeared in Gardner District Court this morning with alleged bite marks on his neck and mouth, but got no sympathy from Judge Arthur Haley, who ordered the 210-pound officer to remain behind bars until a hearing set for Wednesday.
Benoit, an Army Reserve veteran whose lawyer said he served tours in Iraq and Kuwait, pleaded not guilty to a single charge of domestic assault and battery. Attorney Leonard Kesten said his "recently divorced" client's live-in love, Nichole Poirier, declined to seek a restraining order.
According to a four-page police report written by Benoit's own department, an off-duty trooper and party guest who witnessed the dust-up told investigators Benoit "violently slammed" Poirier into a wall and then "destroyed the house."



Responding troopers noted shattered dishes in the kitchen, food on the floor, a busted staircase railing, "a large hole in the wall" on the second floor, a broken pool table and "scattered alcoholic beverages throughout the home."
"It was an argument over the volume of the stereo at about 2 in the morning," Kesten said of yesterday's incident at the couple's home in Royalston, where two other off-duty troopers were guests and Benoit's two kids were staying over.
"She kissed him and bit him really hard on the lip and on the neck. He pushed her away, she hit the wall and apparently broke her collar bone," he said. "There was alcohol involved. It was a party. But he didn't punch her. There was no fight. It was a bite followed by a push. If he wasn't a state trooper, there would be no dangerousness hearing."

Kesten told reporters Benoit and Poirier have been together for a little over a year.
"He has 10 years on the job," Kesten said. "A perfect record."
Benoit has been temporarily relieved of active duty, and Dave Procopio, a State Police spokesman, said officials will hold a hearing on Thursday to determine if his status changes. State Police initially had scheduled the hearing for tomorrow, but shifted it to take into account the results of the dangerousness hearing.
It's unclear how officials will handle Benoit, but historically, troopers accused of a violent crime have faced suspension without pay while the case plays out in court.
State Police also seized close to a dozen firearms from Benoit's house, including two department-issued handguns and his personal collection of rifles and shotguns.

Police said they were called to the grocery store on May Street yesterday just after 12:30 p.m. on a complaint of a man “tearing up the store” because he was asked to leave because he was only wearing a pair of shorts.
The man later identified as Wilmer Delgado-Soba, 38, smashed glass, ripped items off shelves, lifted a shopping cart over his head and then stripped off his shorts and “attempted to pour laundry detergent on them,” police said. They said he became violent when they tried to remove him from the store.
“One of the officers present possessed a departmental issued taser. The man was given several verbal warnings that the officer would deploy his taser if he continued with his violent outburst,” police said in a statement. “The taser appeared to have no effect on the man as he ran to the opposite side of the store. Shortly after the deployment the male appeared to have calmed down and the officers were able to subdue him.”

Pope Warns Of Increasing Genocide Targeting Christians

Christians may be the most persecuted group in the world, and their persecution is on the rise. As Islamic extremism takes hold and repressive governments step up their campaigns against Christianity, the Pope has been moved to warn of “a form of genocide”, and for campaigners to speak out over “religio-ethnic cleansing.”
Organisations that monitor religious persecution have rung alarm bells worldwide, from South America to sub-Saharan Africa and from Asia to the Middle East, warning of a rapid increase in attacks and repression, The Guardian has reported.

Earlier this month, Justin Welby, the Archbishop of Canterbury wrote an article for The Times ahead of a Lords Debate on religious freedom. He wrote:
“Around the world, Christian churches are burned in south India, Muslim and Christian villages attacked in parts of Myanmar. As for the Levant and Mesopotamia, we are all too terribly aware of extreme violence by Isis and its allies against every other group.
“Earlier this year I visited Egypt to offer condolences following the murder of 21 Coptic Christians in Libya, who died proclaiming ‘Jesus Christ is Lord’. Of the 37 Anglican provinces to which I travelled during my first 18 months in office, almost half were living under persecution. They fear for their lives every day.”

Examples of this persecution are not hard to find. Archbishop Welby recalled a man who he had met “like Job, sitting on a heap of ash. The raiders had killed his wife and six children. He had hidden down a well for three days.”

They all say that if the Congress doesn’t lift U.S. sanctions, the rest of the international regime will collapse and allied countries will rush to do business in Iran. Iran will not allow American or Canadian inspectors working for the U.N. nuclear watchdog to visit its nuclear facilities, an official said in remarks broadcast by state TV on Thursday.
Deputy Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi said Iran will only allow inspectors from countries that have diplomatic relations with it. The previously undisclosed remarks were made during a Sunday meeting with parliamentarians.
"American and Canadian inspectors cannot be sent to Iran," said Araghchi. "It is mentioned in the deal that inspectors should be from countries that have diplomatic relations with Islamic republic of Iran."
He also said inspectors from the International Atomic Energy Agency will not have access to "sensitive and military documents."

Ebola Appears Again In Sierra Leone

Hassan Abdul Sesay, a member of parliament from the region, said that the victim had contracted Ebola in the capital, Freetown, and then traveled to his home village to mark the end of the Muslim holy month of Ramadan.

The new case shows, however, how just one sick person can change that. The man was treated for fever at a local hospital but authorities did not call the Ebola emergency number.
Ebola's main symptom is fever, which is also found in more common illnesses such as malaria and typhoid.
Now the 30 nurses who treated him and his entire home village are being quarantined. Authorities are also concerned because the man's father is a taxi driver who brought his son to at least two hospitals.
His family and friends buried him without following the special procedures required for Ebola victims to avoid spreading the disease after death.
