Three CA Guards Charged With Murder of Prison Inmate, Who Refused To Take Psychiatric Drugs

Michael James Tyree, 31, was allegedly beaten to death by three guards at a San Jose jail.

One more abuse of the psychiatric industry. Prison guards forcing drugs into inmates without consent. They were motivated by the misguided notion of doing good, i.e., that psychiatrists ordered it.

[From article]
About 50 people marched Friday in protest at Santa Clara County Main Jail in San Jose, California, to demand inmates be protected from abuse after an inmate was beaten to death last week under the watch of three deputies now facing possible murder charges
Three California correctional deputies were arrested on suspicion of murder in the death of an inmate at a county jail, sheriff's officials said Thursday.
Santa Clara County sheriff's spokesman Sgt. James Jensen said the deputies were in custody in connection with a death that happened late last week.
The San Jose Mercury News identified the correctional officers as Matthew Farris, 27, Jereh Lubrin, 28, and Rafael Rodriguez, 27.

The officers were being held in custody without bail.
The maximum-security inmate - identified as 31-year-old Michael James Tyree - died in his sixth-story cell after a routine check-in around midnight August 27.
He had recently pleaded no contest to petty theft, the San Jose Mercury News reported.
[. . .]
There are reports that the confrontation involved Tyree's refusal to take medication.
The Mercury News reported that he suffered major internal bleeding.
NBC Bay Area quoted a source claiming Tyree suffered wounds consistent with a blunt force beating.
Blunt force can be caused by an object or a hand or foot.
There were also reported of lacerations to his liver and spleen.
[. . .]
Tyree suffered from mental illness and had been arrested several times before, including possession of methamphetamine while loitering outside a church one year ago, KGO TV reported.
The three officers that were arrested have all worked at the jail less than three years.
On Thursday afternoon following the arrests, Santa Clara County Sheriff Laurie Smith apologized to Tyree's family and said 'the disappointment and disgust I feel cannot be overstated.'
Sgt. Jensen the sheriff's office planned to hold a news conference Thursday afternoon.
Tyree previously lived in Florida and his family are based in Louisiana, NBC reported.

Inmate Awarded $750,000 After Six Day Erection While In Custody Of New York City Corrections Department

[From article]
Now that’s a stiff penalty.
A former inmate who sued the city for making him suffer through a painful six-day erection was handed a $750,000 settlement on Monday.
The hefty payout amounts to $125,000 for each day of hard time served by Rodney Cotton, 51, who said he was treated “worse than a dog” at the Manhattan Detention Complex while enduring the uncomfortable side effect of an anti-depressant medication.
Cotton said the lack of medical attention rendered him impotent.
“It just started hurting,” Cotton told The Post Monday of his ordeal, which began on July 4, 2011, near the start of a 2½-year sentence for a parole violation. “And I’m like, what the hell is going on? It wasn’t going down.”
Cotton had asked to be taken to a jail clinic, but a guard at the facility, known as The Tombs, told him he’d have to wait until after the holiday weekend.
[. . .]
“There’s a young lady in the building who likes me. I’m scared to try anything with her. I take her out. I take her to Red Lobster. I take her to Outback. I do things for her son. But I don’t think I’m going to try having sex with her. It would be too embarrassing.”
Doctors said a lasting erection is a side effect of Risperdal, and a warning about it is listed on the website of the manufactuer, Janssen.
Cotton said he started taking Risperdal in 2003, the year after he finished a 12-year prison stint for manslaughter for killing a man during a 1989 fight over a sheepskin coat.

Rikers Island (NYC) Inmate Saves Guard From Rape By Fellow Convict

[From article]
A skinny inmate slipped inside the so-called “A station” bubble through the small crack and opened the security door. A team of inmates then took down the assailant, Raleek Young, 27, until other officers arrived.
During the attack, Young, who is 5-foot-9 and weighs 290 pounds, pulled down his pants and began masturbating while choking the officer, court records show.
He dragged the officer into an adjacent bathroom and blocked her from opening the security door.
[. . .]
The majority of the attack was caught on video, a source who watched the tape said.
[. . .]
“There must be accountability,” Seabrook fumed Monday. “Officers are assaulted every day, and (Bronx DA Robert Johnson) has the audacity to say, ‘Not today, bring him back at another time.’ I will not tolerate it. I will not stand for it.”
Young was arraigned Monday in Bronx Criminal Court. He is facing a slew of new charges, including: attempted rape, sexual abuse, forcible touching, and assault and harassment.
The criminal complaint says Young ripped off the correction officer’s sweater and “placed his lips on her mouth and about her face.”

NY Rikers Island Officers Seek Protection From Inmates, Whose Lawsuit Says Guards Poisoned Them

[From article]
Some 50 members of the Correction Officers Benevolent Association — including its president Norman Seabrook — blasted the city’s jails commissioner for not doing enough to protect rank-and-file workers.
Correction officers in full uniform stood behind the coffin to show what could happen if Correction Commissioner Joe Ponte doesn’t address safety concerns in city jails.

A group of Rikers Island inmates say seething guards purposefully spiked their meatloaf with rat poison , possibly to avenge the attempted rape of a female jail guard last wee k .
The 19 prisoners allege in a new Brooklyn federal lawsuit that they fell violently ill after being served meals in their housing unit on March 3 during a three-day lockdown stemming from the attempted sex assault, court papers state.
[. . .]
“Some of the inmates kept the food as evidence,” she told the Post Monday. “I personally saw what looked like blue pellets – especially in the meatloaf – that are consistent with rat poison.”
Squillace said that a prisoner is usually assigned to assist Rikers staff in preparing and distributing meals. But that inmate – Ellis Wilson – claims he was suspiciously barred from taking part in the process on the day of the incident.

Woman Prison Guard Charged With Having Sex With Inmates

[From article]
Calhoun says while this type of activity is not exactly uncommon in prisons, it also doesn't happen every day.
'We see it across the state and across the United States," Calhoun points out.
'Where you have individuals who are in charge of someone who they are in custody or in charge of. We see it with school teachers, we have seen it lately with that. We've seen it with correctional officers, law enforcement officers.'
Calhoun said Wedgeworth worked in the facility's educational services area. He did not know how long she worked there or her current employment status.

CA Prisons Sterilize Women Inmates Without Consent

The California Institution for Women in Corona was one of two state prisons where female inmates were sterilized without required state approvals. At least 148 women received tubal ligations in violation of prison rules from 2006 to 2010.

Women In North Carolina Compensated

Continuing a tradition begun in Massachusetts, the state of California sterilized prison inmates without consent. Massachusetts did that to mental patients under the eugenics society's direction. Mass officials were praised by Adolf Hitler when he learned what the state was doing in America. He was encouraged to pursue using humans for medical research using Jewish prisoners of concentration camps. It led to the Nuremberg Trials run by Americans. But the United States did not codify those rules and the tradition continues abusing vulnerable humans in the United States. Politicians remain focused on high school bullying and same sex marriage while sociopaths among the medical community continue their depraved activities.

US Judge Wolf Approves Inmate Sex Change Operation

Perplexing that a sex change operations is needed to correct a cruel an unusual situation for a man convicted of homicide of his wife. The judge noted "the inmate 'continues to suffer intense mental anguish.'" Yet police refuse to stop daily harassment, provocations and threats for thirty years of a law-abiding-69-year-old man who police say has a disability. Why is such abuse not cruel and unusual punishment? No charge, no conviction, just punishment is not unusual?

NYC Juvenile Jail Fight Club

This situation demands constant, 24/7/365 scrutiny. Stanley Milgram showed in experiments with graduate students playing jailer and prisoner, how absolute power corrupts ordinary people and creates predators. That would be in addition to the sadists who work in prisons. One more pervasive problem where knowledge and information are available but the leadership lacks the will to fix it.

Billing Inmates For Their Incarceration

The essay is well written and exhibits a rational approach to prisons and to government in general especially "it is no secret that government doesn’t operate as efficiently or effectively as we all wish it would." Is Heroux aware that in MA when people were held in a mental hospital even for a competency evaluation the state would bill the person for his "treatment." This is appropriate to his question "What are we going to do when an inmate is falsely arrested and awaiting trial only to be later released when charges are dropped or the person was found not guilty?" He did not address occasions when civilians are framed as the FBI and local police occasionally do to unpopular persons. It is humiliating to be arrested, held in a hospital and billed for having one's reputation irreparably damaged.

He focuses on one of many misguided ideas promoted by government officials who never held a real job, whose only experience is academic. Often the most brilliant scholars have little or no common sense. Integrity is another issue. We seldom know why bills or regulations get written by someone with a conflict of interest which they are not obligated to reveal. There are many counterproductive laws implemented for the profit of the special interests. His criticism is valid regarding an area of government abuse that few people consider.
