HUPD Jurisdiction

Article states: "Since the incident did not occur on Harvard property, it is being investigated by the Cambridge Police Department." That suggests that HUPD has exclusive jurisdiction on Harvard property -- wishful thinking perpetrated by the HUPD and Harvard adminstrators. HUPD are campus police, sworn and negligently trained special state police officers with power to enforce state laws (but not city ordinances) on Harvard property. The Sheriff of Middlesex and the Sheriff of Suffolk made HUPD officers Deputies Sheriff grantung special powers to make traffic stops when traveling between the Boston and Cambridge campuses. City police have an informal agreement (which they deny) to allow MIT and Harvard campus police to make arrests "in the area of their campus," contrary to law. Nonetheless, Cambridge city police have jurisdiction on all matters occurring within the city including but not limited to Harvard's campus. Some city officers extend to HUPD the first response to events on campus. They act out of personal interest. It makes the city officers' lives easier not to have to address crimes on Harvard property. HUPD can ignore certain crimes. In 2009 lax enforcement by HUPD led to a murder in a Harvard dorm. HUPD officers notoriously abuse their power with no oversight from spineless Harvard administrators. HUPD officers harass critics of Harvard. They abuse their power doing personal favors for faculty members. HUPD sociopaths openly ridicule and humiliate persons they believe have disabilities. They are simply thugs with guns roaming the Harvard campus.
