"NewEnglandLisa" recognizes the pervasive pattern of diverting attention to problems in other countries at the expense of vulnerable Americans. Politicians do that because there are no repercussions for supporting exploited persons elsewhere. "maryladyamas" says, ". . . only mentioning Haiti when this is obviously a worldwide phenomena," ignores the comment by Martin Bashir that there is more slavery in the world today than at any other time in history. If that is true why are white Americans alive today being vilified for slavery in the US 100 years ago? Why aren't the compassionate concerned African American leaders outraged over today's slavery all over the world? This shows their hypocrisy and how irrational their arguments are.
