RFK Jr. Offered Journalist $12K To Clean Up His Cousin's Reputation

Kennedy Cousin Michael Skakel, left; convicted of killing his neighbor Martha Moxley, center; Robert Kennedy Jr., right.

[From article]
Journo Ken Silverstein writes in the New York Observer that he just turned down a $12,500-a-month gig to help Kennedy “whitewash” Skakel’s past by doing “research for a book [Kennedy Jr. is] writing to clear [Skakel] of the 1975 murder of his then-girlfriend [Moxley].”
Silverstein writes, “I really could use the money at the moment, but there’s just one problem: Skakel is obviously guilty. I turned the offer down because some people will do anything for money, but I won’t.”
Kennedy’s offer, according to an Observer opinion piece by Silverstein posted on Wednesday, was made through “David Talbot, founder of Website Salon (who last year offered me a book contract).” But Silverstein now says, “I believe that’s the last I’ll hear from Mr. Talbot about possible future book deals.”

Columnist Objects to Skepticism

Standardized tests, i.e., Common Core, are not "settled established norms." Testing teachers is also relatively new. If Goodwin's thesis was true, Noam Chomsky would be on network news every day. He is still marginalized, while Kennedy family celebrities get national recognition for misguided policies. Does Goodwin mistake opposition for radicalism? Has conformity become the default position on all matters?

[From article]
Ideas that only recently were relegated to the fringes are now going mainstream. And policies that were settled, established norms are under vicious assault. Here’s the real shocker: The radicals are not limited to Occupy Wall Street and other anarchists demonstrating against cops, capitalism and all authority. Instead, respected public figures and government officials who would normally defend the establishment are leading the charge against it. [. . .] The San Jose Mercury News found that 87 percent of kindergartners at the wealthy Berkeley Rose School had vaccine exemptions because the parents believed in “more alternative health care,” according to a school spokesman. The school, where half-day kindergarten costs nearly $12,000 a year, says it offers “judgment-free” education. Children handwrite their own textbooks, learn to knit in first grade and, despite its proximity to Silicon Valley, the school features an anti-tech culture that emphasizes experience over facts. No kidding.

RFK Jr. Blasts Sharpton In His Diary

“Al Sharpton has done more damage to the black cause than [segregationist Alabama Gov.] George Wallace. He has suffocated the decent black leaders in New York,” he says. “His transparent venal blackmail and extortion schemes taint all black leadership.”
Rev. Al Sharpton gave Robert F. Kennedy Jr. “the creeps,” he wrote in his diary.
He goes on to call Sharpton a “buffoon” who has never escaped the “stench” of his advocacy for Tawana Brawley, the black Dutchess County teen who fabricated a story about six white men raping her in 1987.
[. . .]
“The New York Post has chosen to print excerpts from a 13-year-old diary illegally stolen from me,” he said in an e-mail.
[. . .]
“Nothing in that diary was ever meant for publication. I have nothing but respect for Governor Cuomo, Rev. Sharpton and Jesse Jackson, all of whom have distinguished themselves as extraordinary national leaders over the past decade.”
