Mindless Voters Express Themselves

Cambridge City Hall

This letter is an example of how poorly informed our younger generation is, along with some of the older generations. He says,
"The Defense of Marriage Act is denying people the rights they deserve — the right that all married couples should be equal." This is exaggeration, "All married couples should be equal?" Should they all be equally tall, wealthy, educated, athletic? What rights that married couples "deserve" are they being denied? The key word here is deserve.

He adds, "The strongest argument on the side for the Defense of Marriage Act is 'we don’t like them so they should not get what we have.'” This man has read very little about the arguments for and against same sex marriage. He speaks with low information.

Then he says, "To quote Stephen Colbert, [. . .] how can anyone stand up for this argument?" If Stephen Colbert is the main spokesman against same sex marriage then proponents have few rational arguments. He concludes, "We need to let couples that love each other have the same rights." What happens when they no longer love each other? How are they to be equal? This man's vote is equal to mine?
