US Population is Hopeless and Careless

[This appears on several sites, with no attribution beyond the vague publication and country of origin.]

Quote from a European Newspaper

Some people have the vocabulary to sum up things in a way that you can quickly understand them. This is from the Czech Republic translated into English from an article in the Prague newspaper Prager Zeitungon:

"The danger to America is not Barack Obama, but a citizenry capable of entrusting a man like him with the Presidency. It will be far easier to limit and undo the follies of an Obama presidency than to restore the necessary common sense and good judgment to a depraved electorate willing to have such a man for their president. The problem is much deeper and far more serious than Mr. Obama, who is a mere symptom of what ails America. Blaming the prince of the fools should not blind anyone to the vast confederacy of fools that made him their prince. The Republic can survive a Barack Obama who is, after all, merely a fool. It is less likely to survive a multitude of fools, such as those who made him their president."

Expresses my sentiments after 15 years of close scrutiny of the Cambridge City Council in Cambridge MA. It is the city that is host to Harvard University, MIT and Lesley University. I spent many hours attending, speaking at and writing to the City Council, boards and Commissions of the City, and neighborhood associations, which are more like homeowners associations. I realized that elected and appointed officials do not listen to citizens. They respond to wealthy and politically influential persons and groups. When a citizen observes that officials are violating city and state laws, no less US laws, the response of officials is, "Will you shut up." After explaining this to citizens who say they are concerned, the reaction is "I'll give you money but I have no time to help you." Ben Franklin observed that a corrupt population leads directly to tyranny. The contemporary population of the United States is focused only on now and what they can get from others using taxpayer funds. There is no concern about the future. It is an example of a democracy committing suicide. There is not much one can do, with an ignorant population driven by greed.
