Herzog, the head of gynecologic oncology at Columbia University Medical Center, made $65,350 from drug giant Eli Lilly in 2009, which paid him for 28 educational programs and as a consultant.

GlaxoSmithKline paid him $60,450 for speaking fees in the first half of this year and another $32,000 last year for speaking and consultation.

He also earned paychecks from Pfizer and Merck, which makes the vaccine Gardasil to prevent cervical cancer.

Also on the Big Pharma payroll is psychiatrist Leslie Citrome, who earns $151,750 as a full-time program director at the Nathan Kline Institute, a state psychiatric-research center in Rockland County. Citrome also managed to earn what could be considered a full-time salary -- $154,707 -- since 2009 by working for four drug makers.

The nonprofit news organization ProPublica compiled the information, creating a database of 17,700 doctors, pharmacists, nurse practitioners and dietitians who have earned a collective $258 million since 2009."
