Female bartender who was brutally beaten by off-duty cop finds justice
Karolina Obrycka, a Chicago bartender, was beaten by Anthony Abbate,
an off-duty police officer, while his friends watched
A surveillance video of the assault went viral in 2007
Obrycka was awarded $850,000 in damages by a federal jury on Tuesday
Chicago police adhered to a strict code of silence at the hearing to
protect their former colleague
Abbate was previously convicted of aggravated battery in 2009 and
sentenced to probation
