Yankee Boss Needs No Embellishment

Dick Schapp a great sports writer repeats his description of Boss Steinbrenner as "the man who went from humble beginnings." ("The Boss, Billy & Mr. October," New York Post, July 16, 2010, Page 85) The Yankee owner was a great manager, a great showman, and a magnificent money maker. He was also an elegant philanthropist. But his beginnings were not humble. Having a successful businessman father is not humble. Schapp distorts reality to enhance the image of a great man whose life needs no embellishment.
