Misguided NY Post Editorial on Psychiatry

Post editors' argument to make Kendra's Law permanent is flawed. They repeat the mantra of the drug companies that stopping taking drugs causes violence. They omit the thought that if stopping taking them causes violence why start? What evidence is there that persons accused of mental illness who do not take drugs are violent? The evidence may show that violent persons who commit crimes are accused also of mental illness. Taking a person's freedom when accused of mental illness requires no due process protections while accusations of crime do. No wonder why police support psychiatry. The Nazis medicalized social problems. Because one criminal killed an innocent woman does not mean that all persons accused of mental illness are violent. The Post needs to rethink its misguided support for this law. The Editors argue for common sense which suggests the need for scrutiny of psychiatry, a collection of personal opinions masquerading as science.
