Lack of Free Speech On Campuses Is Alarming

The disturbing campaign to suppress speech that is purportedly hurtful, unpleasant, or morally distasteful is a troubling and recurrent pattern of behavior by "progressive" leftists and "social justice" advocates from Muslim-led pro-Palestinian groups. Coalescing around the Israeli/Palestinian conflict, this unholy alliance has been formed in a libelous and vituperative campaign to demonize Israel, attack pro-Israel individuals, and promote a relentless campaign against Israel in the form of the boycott, divestment, and sanctions (BDS) movement. As the ideological assault against Israel and Jews intensifies on university campuses, and pro-Israel individuals begin answering their ideological opponents, the student groups leading the pro-Palestinian charge (including such groups as the radical Students for Justice in Palestine [SJP]) have decided that their tactic of unrelenting demonization of Israel is insufficient, and the best way to optimize the propaganda effect of their anti-Israel message is also to suppress or obscure opposing views.

For instance, a leaked memorandum from the Binghamton University Students for Justice in Palestine chapter revealed that members would be required never even to engage in dialogue with pro-Israel groups on their campus. They would be prohibited from "engaging in any form of official collaboration, cooperation, or event co-sponsorship with [pro-Israel] student organizations and groups." And SJP members "shall in no manner engage in any form of official collaboration with any student group which actively opposes the cause of Palestinian liberation nor with groups which have aided and abetted Zionist student organizations" – meaning, of course, that the so-called intellectual debate that universities purport to promote in exactly this type of discussion will never take place when SJP is involved.
Because they cannot win an honest, open ideological debate about the Israeli/Palestinian conflict – because they deal almost exclusively in misrepresentations and untruths (the allegation of Israeli apartheid being the central example) – SJP has characteristically has tried to insure that no pro-Israel voices are heard, by either disrupting and shutting down pro-Israel events and speakers or urging administrators to disinvite speakers they deem Islamophobic, too pro-Israel, or critical of their own tactics and activism.
The thuggish substitution of event disruption and the shutting down of other people's speech for what is supposed to be two-sided academic dialogue and debate occur with increased regularity. These methods mark another, more pernicious, aspect of the campus campaign against Israel, Zionism, and Jews.



At the University of California, Davis this month, for example, George Deek, a Jaffa-born Arab Christian, planned to give a speech entitled "The Art of Middle East Diplomacy" when some 30 pro-Palestinian activists stood up and blocked Deek with banners and took over the event by screaming, "From the River to the Sea, Palestine will be free" – meaning an Arab state in place of present-day Israel – and chanting such toxic ditties as "long live the Intifada," "Allahu Akbar," and "When Palestine is occupied, resistance is justified." These activists further employed ghoulish calls for the murder of Jews and "Israel is anti-Black" and "Palestine will be free, fight white supremacy" – an intellectually clumsy way of trying to frame Israel as a racist state.
In February, Bassam Eid, a Palestinian himself and the founder of the Palestinian Human Rights Monitoring Group, witnessed how nothing positive said about Israel is allowed to be heard, even from such a credible, though unusual, source as a Palestinian. During his speech, in which he was critical of Hamas and the Palestinian Authority for their failure to seek peace, Eid was verbally attacked by a student attendee, who said in Arabic, "Dr. Bassam, do not dare talk about us [Palestinians] anymore. You have shamed our God … you've shamed us, disgraced us, you are a traitor, you are a traitor, in the name of God you are a traitor. … You are worse than the Jews and we will hunt you down and find you in every place. Be prepared." When it became obvious that his speech would not be able to continue uninterrupted, Eid cancelled the event and had to be escorted off site by the police.

A pro-Israel student group at Columbia University, Artists 4 Israel, was also denied the opportunity to express views during Israeli Apartheid Week, during which the SJP chapter had erected its version of a mock "apartheid wall," emblazoned with anti-Israel slogans and symbols. To counter the display with a pro-Israel one, Artists 4 Israel had set up a 15-foot inflatable figure, a "pro-Israel Pinocchio," replete with a long nose and a sign that read "'Apartheid' Week Compassion Abuse" as an effective, sardonic swipe at SJP's toxic campaign. The chair and vice chair of Columbia's student government, who not coincidentally are members of Columbia's SJP chapter and pro-BDS activists, ordered the removal of the Pinocchio figure, offering the disingenuous justification that Pinocchio's long nose might be construed as anti-Semitic and that the pump used to inflate the figure was too loud for use on the Columbia grounds.
The university officials and student groups who now try to suppress all thought of which they disapprove have sacrificed one of the core values for which the university exists. In their zeal to be inclusive, and to recognize the needs and aspirations of victim groups, they have pretended to foster inquiry, but they have actually stifled and retarded it. As this otherwise noble purpose for the university has devolved, the first victim in the corruption of academic free speech, unfortunately, has been the truth.

Black Activism Has Misguided Priorities

As a black conservative, over the years I have written countless articles about how the Democratic Party has been duping my fellow black Americans. I have explained how America is the greatest land of opportunity on the planet for all who simply choose to go for it. I have dispelled the myth that white Americans are burning the midnight oil plotting ways to keep blacks down.
I have written endlessly about how blaming white America for issues plaguing blacks is wrong and fruitless. Real empowerment comes from taking personal responsibility for one’s life. Why sit around waiting for someone to do something to make your life better?

Husband Beaten On New York City Subway, After Wife Argues With Passenger

Cops say the argument started in Manhattan, when the woman tried to tried to squeeze into a seat next to a man in a reflective vest. The woman told police that he elbowed her and she elbowed him back and the two launched into a tirade that lasted across the river and four stops into the Bronx.
At Jackson Avenue, the argument escalated, with the woman and man chasing each other around the car and the woman holding the car doors for several minutes as she called for help and the other straphangers yelled at her to calm down and get away from the doors so the train could move. Even the woman’s own husband told her to stop her antics.
“Yo, chill,” he said to her.
But it was too late for the 38-year-old husband as the other man decided to take his frustration out on him and promptly laid him out.

If what he says is so outrageous why not speak rationally citing laws, and or goals with which his ideas conflict? Trump has the gonads to raise the issue in public discourse. Others hide behind propaganda. Cambridge, MA City Council did the same when one of its members was accused of founding a Massachusetts chapter of an organization which the FBI designates as terror related. No one in the City Council wanted to discuss the issue. Cambridge City Councilors are always unable to discuss controversy without personal attacks, shutting down rational discussion.

Bad enough to write irrational essays. For an alleged responsible newspaper to print it shows how ridiculous the standards are today for prominent journalists. In a brief public discussion with R.W. Apple at a Neiman award ceremony he argued that there was a responsible and an irresponsible press. I challenged him and he brushed me off. The LA Times to him was responsible. Recently the Daily Beast, which merged with Newsweek (another "responsible" press), printed an essay saying that black people cannot be racist. Huh? Chu, a Harvard Neiman Foundation fellow is not the first Neiman man (or Harvard man) who published misguided irrational politically correct speech.

Chu specifically invokes the Nazi regime's policy but then abruptly declares that there is no comparison. What Chu did in just the opening lines of his puzzling article was to downplay, intellectually and morally, the legacy of the Holocaust. Chu thoughtlessly imputes Lebensraum to Europe's embrace of refugees – a remarkable absurdity, even for the L.A. Times. The slightest reverence for history would prevent a moderately informed person from drawing connections this absurd.



By the words not "exactly parallel or equivalent to the horrors of the Second World War," Chu means to say that nothing occurring in Europe is remotely similar to Nazi policy. Nonetheless, he saw fit to throw in the Nazi references. There is absolutely no intelligible relation between National Socialism and the well-meaning bureaucrats processing migrants throughout Europe today. Chu, with a growing chorus of like-minded leftist reporters, thus engages in a patent abuse of history.

To read the Holocaust into what is occurring in Europe requires the mind of either the slanderer or the ill-informed. Probably without searching very far, Chu located just such a mind: a "community leader" in Rome named Ruth Dureghello, who said of the written numbers, "It is an image we cannot bear, which brings to mind the entry procedures at Nazi extermination camps, when millions of men, women and children were marked with a number, like animals, before being sent to their deaths."

Orban, unlike Hitler, does not suggest that a subset of Hungarian citizens be rounded up on the basis of their religion, deported, and then exterminated. Instead, he is voicing concern about an influx of non-citizens who have forced themselves into Europe. The migrants are not Hungarian citizens, and they generally do not face deportation, much less extermination. Orban does not appear to believe that he has any moral obligation to destabilize his society in order to accommodate cross-border population flows.

One may be tempted to dismiss Chu's article as the ahistoric musing of a leftist hack, eager to score a few rhetorical points by invoking the Holocaust. Yet, according to Chu's L.A. Times bio, he attended Harvard and was selected as a Nieman Fellow there. How could it be that such a background could produce reasoning so spurious, with such disregard for factual accuracy?

A dictatorship, on the other hand, maintains itself by censoring or distorting the facts, and by appealing, not to reason, not to enlightened self-interest, but to passion and prejudice [.]" Which is why under the soft dictatorship of Barack Hussein Obama, the American people may be hard pressed to make realistic choices since they are far too susceptible to the distortions of language.

Ad hominem attacks against an individual instead of the merit of an idea have been a hallmark of this administration. In 2014 when attempting to persuade the country on his immigration policy, Obama utilized the ergo decedo fallacy by attacking Republicans for their party position rather than for their argument.
Logical fallacies have long been the lifeblood of dishonest politicians and in Obama, we find an abundance of them. A favorite fallacy is the strawman, which is an attack on a position that is not even held by the other side.

More currently, Americans who oppose the Iran nuclear deal are "crazies." Those Jewish groups who still cannot perceive the existential threat to America and Israel need to recall that Islamic Iran allows lying to unbelievers in order to defeat them. Taqiyya is saying something that isn't true while kitman is lying by omission. Thus, to advance Islam, one gains the "trust of non-believers in order to draw out their vulnerability and defeat them." Coupled with his use of logical fallacies and his schooling in Islam, Obama surely knows these tenets which is why he can blithely claim that Iran will be compliant.

Son Killed Alabama Mother After Argument Over Grades

Blansit confessed to killing his mother, 45, after they got into an argument over grades, said DeKalb County Sheriff Jimmy Harris.
She died of blunt force trauma with a baseball bat, Gregg said.
Investigators said they found scratches on Blansit, a student at the University of Alabama at Birmingham, when they met him at the scene, CNN affiliate WAFF said.
Mentone is a town of about 500 in northeast Alabama. Blansit’s father said his son had been home several weeks and they were waiting for his grades, Gregg said. The father was at work during the day, the chief said.
Tyler Blansit was the couple’s only child, Gregg said.

This week we are featuring demonstrations by Jonathan Gruber of MIT and Ben Edelman of the Harvard Business School.

Gruber’s taped speeches at conferences of other heath care “experts” bragging about his key role in writing the Act, smarmily suggesting he pulled this one off because the people are “stupid”, and then when called to account by Congressman Darrell Issa, responded: "In excerpts of these videos I am shown making a series of glib, thoughtless, and sometimes downright insulting comments. I behaved badly, and I will have to live with that…"
Still, he refused to say how much his work enriched him. (Credible accounts say about $6 million from the federal and various state governments.)

Either Gruber spent two years lying about his role in writing the law, or he was lying this week in his sworn congressional testimony.

There’s lots of irrationality on campuses and you should learn how to quickly bow down to it. The trustees don’t like to see strong administrators -- they just want their names on buildings and avenues for getting their friends’ dumb kids into your school so genuflect, genuflect, genuflect.

“We are united in our insistence that all lives matter,” read the e-mail, in which she made clear she was strongly behind the protests, writing that the grand jury decisions had “led to a shared fury… We gather in vigil, we raise our voices in protest.”
So, at Smith, black lives matter -- even if the slogan is in support of two thugs whose deaths were connected to their illegal activities (and in Garner’s case ill health). Nor is it significant to these students that black-on-black crimes far exceed deaths by blacks at the hands of police or of white people for that matter. White lives, Asian lives, presumably do not matter.

In a Dec. 5 op-ed, the president of California State University (CSU) claimed if you are “light skinned” you have “significant unearned privilege” and routinely think less of those who are different than yourself.
In her piece, “Privilege at The Beach,” -- referencing the Long Beach area where the school resides -- Jane Close Conoley, a white woman herself, asserts that “light skin color and high income levels may attract significant unearned privilege.” Those who qualify for such privilege, often unknowingly exert distrust and “lower expectations of behavior” on those of another skin color.

We thought that we could skip this course for now after the Duke Lacrosse debacle, but no, we have to keep reminding you guys that when it comes to white male students, it’s the narrative that counts.
Teaching this course this week, we have the president of the University of Virginia who based her actions on a now thoroughly debunked Rolling Stone article.

I have it from reliable sources that law students at Harvard are, as we write, being subjected to the oppression of having to take final exams as scheduled.

Few if any of the students complaining talk about the evidence, the forensics, the law that might have justified the grand jury rulings. Instead, it’s all about them and their emotions. Are we training students to think and act as lawyers, or emotional activists?

Michael Brown’s stepfather, Louis Head, shouted, “Burn this bitch down!” after a grand jury decided not to indict Ferguson Police Officer Darren Wilson in the death of Michael Brown.
The question then asked students to imagine that they are lawyers in the St. Louis County Attorney’s office and had been asked to advise the prosecutor “whether to seek an indictment against Head” for inciting violence. The exam reads:
“[As] a recent hire in the office, you are asked to write a memo discussing the relevant First Amendment issues in such a prosecution. Write the memo.”

Feelings have become more important than national security, our economy, the lives of our troops and even public health when you observe the politically correct way our government is dealing with this Ebola thing. It is insane.
I am not blaming Oprah, but I saw this trend toward everything being about feelings beginning decades ago, when the Oprah Winfrey show became the hottest thing on national daytime TV. Has our culture become too feminized?

Guilty feelings over America's sin of slavery have lead author and Ebola expert David Quammen to suggest that we risk Ebola getting into our country rather than blocking flights from Liberia. So this fool cavalierly advocates putting millions of Americans at risk of contracting Ebola as payback for slavery. This is insanity, folks.

In keeping with the Obama administration’s pattern of using every governmental agency at its disposal to overrule the Constitution, punish its enemies, and bully Americans, the FCC is considering a petition to ban the name “Redskins” from being used over the airwaves. Can you believe that, folks? Remarkably, Democrats believe that being sensitive to the feelings of those who are obsessed with political correctness is worthy of killing the First Amendment.
Everywhere you turn, constitutional rights, the law, and freedom of speech are being overruled by a hypersensitivity to hurting someone's feelings. Liberals tell us that public expressions of patriotism and wearing a t-shirt displaying an American flag to a California school on Cinco de Mayo is mean because it hurts the feelings of illegals. Don't you just want to yell, “This is my country! Get over it!”

Extreme Public Discourse Distortion About Israel

Israel’s political culture has been shaped by many factors, especially its Zionist ideology, the resilience it has developed in fighting four wars, and the impact of incessant terrorist attacks that have caused disruptions in the life of the country.
But by any token the country is a remarkable success. Israel has integrated people from more than 100 countries into a diverse mosaic pattern in a democratic society of tolerance and freedom of expression and religion, not withstanding the still-existing inequalities and differences with Palestinian Arabs. It compares favorably with other democratic nations, scientifically, economically, and culturally with the largest number of art museums per capita of any country in the world.
Why then is a considerable part of those who consider themselves on the left, many of whom are well-meaning even if some are rabid anti-Semites, so critical and even hostile to the State of Israel, often to a greater degree than they are to almost all other countries? Why do those who consider themselves on the political “left” so eager to criticize Israel almost automatically, rather than acknowledge the contributions to science, medicine, innovations, and culture made by Israel in its 65 years of existence? The obvious answer is the Palestinian issue.

But what is a “leftist” position on politics in the Middle East? Does it approve of the Hamas Charter that calls for the extermination of Israel? Does it mean sympathy for Islamist extremism, some of which can be seen as “Islamo-Fascism,” or for tribal and ethnic bigotry of Arabs, or for Arab dictatorial systems, or for expressions of unrelenting hatred of Jews? The silence, or occasional lip service, of many who proudly define themselves as “leftist” on the rising tide of antisemitism today and frequently expressed by Palestinian officials, can only be regarded as moral perversity.

One of the heroines of the left, Professor Judith Butler, referred on September 7, 2006 at UC Berkeley to the terrorist groups Hamas and Hizb'allah as “social movements that are progressive, that are on the left, that are part of a global left.”
A final question: do those on the “left” supposedly concerned with the Palestinians approve of the goal expressed on October 29, 2006 by Mahmoud al-Zahar, Hamas' foreign minister? His statement is clear, “Israel is a vile entity that has been implanted on our soil, and has no historical, religious, or cultural legitimacy… We say no to recognizing Israel, regardless of the price we have to pay.” He said that the day “we expel the Jews” is drawing near, and that they are headed for annihilation.

Gallup Finds Pro Palestinians Are Less Educated Irrational, Low Information Voters

According to Gallup’s internals, self-identifying Republicans are the primary reason Israel’s actions attract plurality support in this poll. GOP-leaners back Israel’s actions by a whopping 44-point margin; the numbers turn upside-down among independents (-10), and especially Democrats (-16). The cohorts least likely to label Israel’s attacks against Hamas as “justified” are young people (-26), non-whites (-24), women (-11), and people with a high school education or less (-11) — namely, the Democratic coalition. On a not-unrelated note, Americans who are under-informed about the issue tend to break heavily against Israel, whereas those who say they’re following developments at least “somewhat closely” back our democratic ally:
I’d ask what it would take for the “not justified” crowd to shift in Israel’s favor on this question, but the answers are depressingly obvious: Accurate information and/or more dead Israelis. Those are the primary antidotes to the biased and lazy mainstream media’s false equivalencies and context-free body count obsession. If Israel were less adept at protecting its innocents, and if Hamas actually tried to spare its civilians instead of intentionally putting them in harm’s way, low-information Americans might be spared the various monuments to “moral lunacy,” erected by people like Jon Stewart:

This is moral lunacy. You would never know from watching Stewart that Hamas is dedicated to the destruction of the Jewish state (and says so in its charter); that Hamas started the war; that Hamas wants to escalate the war; that Hamas has refused repeated ceasefires; and that Hamas is using innocent Palestinians as human shields by, for example, using hospitals and schools for military purposes. You would never know, in other words, that Hamas has a vested interest in more dead Palestinians, precisely in the hopes that people like Jon Stewart will make Israel out to be the more malicious of the two combatants.

He did not discuss any of the growing instances of religious persecution arising from same-sex marriage, such as a New Mexico photographer or Colorado baker sued for their religious beliefs. Instead, he made the Orwellian finding that his ruling will actually enhance religious liberty by empowering liberal religious groups to conduct same-sex ceremonies.
It is telling that this judge does not mention even once that a fellow judge on his court had just declared a right to polygamy so that people can demand to marry multiple people of either sex, as Breitbart News reported just last week. Everything Judge Shelby says in Kitchen would also require the existence of such a right, but he utters not one word about this elephant in the room, likely understanding that it would cast in a very different light his contention that those who believe marriage is the union of a man and woman are simply and utterly irrational.

So if the mental health industrial complex is "in complete breakdown" the answer is to round up the people accused of mental illness? Is that like putting all people with broken legs into jail; because the hospitals are not working properly? Liberal misguided policy is to blame guns for deaths of innocent people. The NRA blames mental illness. Neither makes sense. They might as well blame the devil. Human beings are evil and can do the most depraved things. The high priests of the psychiatric industry claim they have superior knowledge of which humans that might be. But they have been making  predictions in and out of court for 100 years and they are not getting better. Unless the government control freaks are willing to put all non police in jail to prevent murders by civilians there is no way to stop the meaningless killings. Compared with the annual deaths from  medical negligence this is nothing. 90,000 to 100,000 patients die each year due to medical negligence, which can be overcome by human diligence. Only God can change the nature of man.  This article is filed under "politics" on Fox news. Politics is another word for bull crap. Where are the facts to support any of this rubbish promoted by the NRA?
