Doctor Predicts Women Will Have More Sex With Robots Than With Men By 2050

[From article]
Woman could be swapping human partners for robots in less than 10 years as the trend for sex with cyborgs continues to increase.
Futurologist Dr Ian Pearson has compiled a report on the future of sex - where he suggests that sleeping with robots will be as common for women as watching porn is today.
Sex with robots isn't exactly new though - and there are already a wide range of mechanical partners for humans out there.
Footage, shared by Super Deluxe , was filmed in the Real Doll factory, and throws new light on the industry standard sex toys.
Thanks to new developments, the pleasure aids have undergone a renaissance recently, with more than ever turning to them in lieu of human company when they have intimate thoughts.
[. . .]
But Dr Pearson claims in his report that robot sex may become so popular that it will overtake human intercourse - and will be fully-fledged by 2050.
In the report, commissioned by Bondara, Dr Pearson claims: "A lot of people will still have reservations about sex with robots at first but gradually as they get used to them, as the AI (artificial intelligence) and mechanical behaviour and their feel improves, and they start to become friends with strong emotional bonds, that squeamishness will gradually evaporate."
But the report also claims people may also fall in love with these machines - which is referred to as Robophilia.
Many people have voiced concerns over this growing trend fearing the robots could soon replace human interaction.

Middle East Muslim Terrorists Using New Technology Creating Global Dangers

Remote controlled car bomb.

Driverless cars, robots, all available as weapons to the terrorist as well as to the wealthy elite as toys.

[link to video embedded]
[From article]
Major Chris Hunter, a former special forces bomb technician, writes that the Islamic State is moving closer to being able to attack commercial aviation and that it possesses weapons expertise that eclipses anything any terror group has ever achieved.
[. . .]
Hunter notes that the Islamic State’s possession of chemical weapons coupled with these unmanned, remote-controlled vehicles is “truly the stuff of nightmares.”
Stuart Ramsay, Sky News Chief Correspondent, expands on Hunter’s report, confirming that the Islamic State has a cadre of scientists and weapons experts at their disposal who are developing weapons and training jihadists with plans to carry out “spectacular” attacks in Europe along with attacks on passenger jets and military aircraft.
[. . .]
And it’s a bit disconcerting, to say the least, that a news outlet would possess such valuable intelligence, but Western intelligence agencies would be in the dark.
Sky News came into possession of the training videos after an Islamic State trainer who had the videos was captured in Syria (by what’s left of the Free Syrian Army) as he was traveling through Turkey en route to Europe. The FSA passed the videos on to Sky News. And Sky News passed the videos on to the authorities in the U.K. A weapons adviser to the British military described them as an intelligence “gold mine.”
[. . .]
The Foreign Office responded with a statement: “Daesh will use all measures at their disposal to cause harm, and Britain will never be cowed by such terrorists. Our values are so much stronger than theirs. It will take time but this is an organisation that is losing territory and will be defeated.”
Please tell me I didn’t just read that.
“Our values” are stronger than theirs? Well, yes they are. (Duh.) But right now, the Islamic State is waging war, and the West is indeed “cowed.” The Islamic State is waging war with increasingly sophisticated weapons, and we’re showing up with our values – values that won’t mean a damn thing if we’re all slaughtered.

US Government Is Larger Than Anyone Knows, Or Cares

[From article]
Background: In most of my classes I will either show the picture nearby of federal agency acronyms (remember that none of these are cabinet departments spelled out in the Constitution), or start writing them one-by-one on the blackboard while rattling off their name and purpose. If I show the slide I’ll see how many agencies students can identify from their acronym (usually not very many, and I’ve forgotten some of these myself), but if I recite them seriatim, after a few minutes students get the point: the government is massive, and largely beyond the direct—or even indirect—control of voters. (Recall Obama saying that he couldn’t control the “independent” National Labor Relations Board when it tried to stop Boeing from opening a plant in South Carolina. No reporter thought to follow up: “Mr. President, just who does control the NLRB if it’s not you?”)
[. . .]

Clyde Wayne Crews of the Competitive Enterprise Institute reports:
Digging through other counts offered by federal officials, he found an online Federal Register Index of 257.

United States Government Manual lists 316.
Then there was a 2015 Senate Judiciary Committee hearing during which a senator listed over 430 departments, agencies and sub-agencies.
“As bureaucracy sprawls, nobody can say with complete authority exactly how many federal agencies exist,” blogged Crews on the CEI site.

The answer is . . . no one really knows. At least the government can’t tell you.

UK Taxpayers Fear Robots Will Take Their Jobs

[From article]
Almost half of Britons fear that robots could one day wipe out humanity, according to an exclusive Sky News survey.
And more than six out of 10 people in the UK think the Government should protect jobs from being taken by robots, our survey suggests.
The results reveal the anxieties felt by ordinary people about the coming robot revolution.
[. . .]
Prominent figures including Professor Stephen Hawking and Bill Gates have also warned about the threat that "super-intelligent" computers could pose to humanity.
[. . .]
He said: "If we one day develop machines that are superior to us in terms of general intelligence, then this machine super-intelligence might be in a very strong position to shape the future according to its preferences.
"And hopefully those preferences will be aligned with ours and it will be a great win.
[. . .]
Andrew McAfee, a professor at the Massachusetts Institute of Technology, told Sky News that the robot revolution "is happening right now".

Stephen Hawking Warns Of Threat To Humans From Artificial Intelligence

Stanley Kubrick's film 2001 and its murderous computer HAL encapsulate many people's fears of how AI could pose a threat to human life

[From article]
Stephen Hawking: "Humans, who are limited by slow biological evolution, couldn't compete and would be superseded"
Prof Stephen Hawking, one of Britain's pre-eminent scientists, has said that efforts to create thinking machines pose a threat to our very existence.
He told the BBC:"The development of full artificial intelligence could spell the end of the human race."
His warning came in response to a question about a revamp of the technology he uses to communicate, which involves a basic form of AI.
[. . .]
In the short term, there are concerns that clever machines capable of undertaking tasks done by humans until now will swiftly destroy millions of jobs.
In the longer term, the technology entrepreneur Elon Musk has warned that AI is "our biggest existential threat".

Extreme Public Discourse Distortion About Israel

[From article]
Israel’s political culture has been shaped by many factors, especially its Zionist ideology, the resilience it has developed in fighting four wars, and the impact of incessant terrorist attacks that have caused disruptions in the life of the country.
But by any token the country is a remarkable success. Israel has integrated people from more than 100 countries into a diverse mosaic pattern in a democratic society of tolerance and freedom of expression and religion, not withstanding the still-existing inequalities and differences with Palestinian Arabs. It compares favorably with other democratic nations, scientifically, economically, and culturally with the largest number of art museums per capita of any country in the world.
Why then is a considerable part of those who consider themselves on the left, many of whom are well-meaning even if some are rabid anti-Semites, so critical and even hostile to the State of Israel, often to a greater degree than they are to almost all other countries? Why do those who consider themselves on the political “left” so eager to criticize Israel almost automatically, rather than acknowledge the contributions to science, medicine, innovations, and culture made by Israel in its 65 years of existence? The obvious answer is the Palestinian issue.
[. . .]
But what is a “leftist” position on politics in the Middle East? Does it approve of the Hamas Charter that calls for the extermination of Israel? Does it mean sympathy for Islamist extremism, some of which can be seen as “Islamo-Fascism,” or for tribal and ethnic bigotry of Arabs, or for Arab dictatorial systems, or for expressions of unrelenting hatred of Jews? The silence, or occasional lip service, of many who proudly define themselves as “leftist” on the rising tide of antisemitism today and frequently expressed by Palestinian officials, can only be regarded as moral perversity.
[. . .]
the increasing prevalence on the left of “a particular kind of nonsense and sloppy thinking… that denies the existence of objective realities.” This is unfortunately applicable to well-meaning leftists who have tended to accept the validity of the Palestinian Narrative of Victimhood, that Palestinians are the most oppressed people in the world, that Israel is a cruel oppressor, and that the Arab-Israeli dispute is the most important in the world.
[. . .]
expressed by Abbas Zaki, a leader of Fatah, when speaking on August 22, 2014, regarding rocket attacks on Israel, “I think the Palestinian people’s weapon is pure… they don’t want to kill… but there are no innocent Israelis.”
[. . .]
the explanation in June 2012 at Leeds University by Professor Gayatri Spivak of Columbia University. “Suicide bombing…and the planes of 9/11… is a purposive self-annihilation… they serenely destroy themselves (and many others) for the good of the cause.”
[. . .]
Their expressions are to a large extent limited to hatred of the existence of the State of Israel, and frequently of Jews, irrespective of any particular Israeli actions.
[. . .]
They view homophobic, non-democratic, and religiously intolerant states and groups as worthy of support. One of the heroines of the left, Professor Judith Butler, referred on September 7, 2006 at UC Berkeley to the terrorist groups Hamas and Hizb'allah as “social movements that are progressive, that are on the left, that are part of a global left.”
A final question: do those on the “left” supposedly concerned with the Palestinians approve of the goal expressed on October 29, 2006 by Mahmoud al-Zahar, Hamas' foreign minister? His statement is clear, “Israel is a vile entity that has been implanted on our soil, and has no historical, religious, or cultural legitimacy… We say no to recognizing Israel, regardless of the price we have to pay.” He said that the day “we expel the Jews” is drawing near, and that they are headed for annihilation.

Is Thinking Obsolete?

[From article]
Has any other country, in any other war, been expected to keep the enemy’s civilian casualties no higher than its own civilian casualties? The idea that Israel should do so did not originate among the masses but among the educated intelligentsia.
In an age when scientists are creating artificial intelligence, too many of our educational institutions seem to be creating artificial stupidity.
[. . .]
The attack against Matt Drudge has been in the classic tradition of demagogues. It turns questions of fact into questions of motive. Geraldo accuses Drudge of trying to start a “civil war.”
[. . .]
Although liberals are usually gung ho for increasing the minimum wage, there was a sympathetic front-page story in the July 29 San Francisco Chronicle about the plight of a local nonprofit organization that will not be able to serve as many low-income minority youths if it has to pay a higher minimum wage. They are seeking some kind of exemption.

Listen How I Do, Not As I Say. I Mean, You Know What I'm Saying?

A dumbed down electorate gets the dumbed down representatives it elects. In his book about the Clintons, Partners in Power, Roger Morris observes that in recent years the preferred candidates are weak with relaxed rectitude. Look around you. It is not complete yet. But most of them are. Not just public officials and not just elected officials. Appointed, corporate and academic leaders too.

[From article]
Congressional approval ratings are at a historic low, and after what has happened over the course of the last twenty four hours – I can see why. On the House floor Wednesday, longtime Democrat Congresswoman Sheila Jackson Lee made the startling claim that “We did not seek an impeachment of President Bush, because as an executive, he had the authority.”
These are the moments when you say “Really?”
The problem here is that Rep. Lee lied to the American People inside the People’s House. Good thing for her that when you make speeches on the floor of the House of Representatives you are not under oath or under the threat of perjury. Perhaps that should change, but that’s another debate for another day.
Lied? Well back in 2008, Rep. Lee co-sponsored House Resolution 1258 entitled “Impeaching George W. Bush, President of the United States, of high crimes and misdemeanors. “
[. . .]
I was transferred to a gentleman on Lee’s staff. When I again asked him about the contradiction and stated that perhaps I was confused, the man said “Oh look it here, we have one of those right wing, tea-bagger nut jobs on the phone taking his cues from FOX News.”
He then accused me of being un-American, raising his voice at me while asking me to calm down, and telling me that I am just on some mission to destroy our country. When I calmly asked for his name, he said “I don’t have to give it to you because I don’t want to show up on some right wing blog and be on your Twitter account.” Keep in mind, I never said who I was – he just made assumptions and attacked me. When I reminded him that he gets paid by our tax dollars, he said “I doubt you even pay taxes and the IRS will find you soon enough,” and hung up on me.
Was that a threat from Rep. Lee’s staff to use the IRS as a weapon against citizens for just asking questions?
Astounded at what happened, I called back and asked to speak to the Chief of Staff for Congresswoman Lee because I had been treated rudely and threatened. After being transferred, another nice gentleman said “This is the Chief Counsel, you have 15 seconds.”

Can Machines Run The World Without Humans?

[From article]
Ernest Davis, a computer scientist at New York University.
While AI can trounce the best chess or Jeopardy player and do other specialized tasks, it's still light-years behind the average 7-year-old in terms of common sense, vision, language and intuition about how the physical world works, Davis said.
For instance, because of that physical intuition, humans can watch a person overturn a cup of coffee and just know that the end result will be a puddle on the floor. A computer program, on the other hand, would have to do a laborious simulation and know the exact size of the cup, the height of the cup from the surface and various other parameters to understand the outcome, Davis said.
[. . .]
Robin Hanson, an economist at George Mason University in Washington, D.C., who is writing a book about the future singularity. But once machines become as smart as man, the economy will double every week or month.
[. . .]
"There are such strong financial incentives in using technology in ways that aren't necessarily in everyone's interest," Hibbard said. "That's going to be a very difficult problem, possibly an unsolvable problem."
