Orlando Terrorist Was a Devout Muslim, Divorced, Married A Second Time

Sitora Yusufiy, Omar Mateen's first wife, described how he 'seemed like a normal human being' at first. The two met online and married in 2009 after a brief romance.

[From article]
Omar Mateen transformed from a friendly high school football player to a quiet father who carried out America's deadliest mass shooting, leaving old friends and family members in shock.
Mateen, who worked as a security guard, walked into a gay nightclub in Orlando, Florida, with a handgun and AR-15 semi-automatic rifle, killing 50 people on Sunday before police stormed the club and fatally shot him.
A gay, high school classmate who knew Mateen before 2009 said the 29-year-old regularly interacted with him and his other gay co-workers and 'treated us all like the individuals we were.'
But the terrorist's father said his son had recently become infuriated at the sight of two men kissing, while others said he was an 'agitated' and 'aggressive' bodybuilder.
Mateen's first wife claimed he was mentally ill and physically abusive, while a coworker said: 'He talked about killing people all the time. I wasn't shocked. I saw it coming.'
He had worked for G4S since 2007, the world's largest security company, which provides guards for US nuclear facilities.
[. . .]
Mateen went on to earn an associate's degree in criminal justice from Indian River State College in Fort Pierce, and expressed interest in joining the police force.
Instead, he worked as a security officer, a fact that comforted other members of the Islamic Center of Fort Pierce where he worshipped, Syed Shafeeq Rahman, the head of he mosque, said.
'He hardly had any friends. He would come with his little son at night to pray and after he would leave.'
Rahman told the NY Times: 'There is nothing that he is hearing from me to do killing, to do bloodshed, to do anything, because we never talk like that.'

[. . .]
The Islamic center also released a statement condemning the 'monstrous' attack that read: 'The Muslim community of Fort Pierce joins our fellow Americans in repudiating anyone or any group that would claim to justify or excuse such an appalling act of violence.'
The terrorist's father Seddique Mir Mateen also denied that the attack had anything to do with religion, and said his son had become enraged after seeing two men kissing in Miami months before.
While the father said he was 'in shock like the whole country,' the terrorist's former coworker, Daniel Gilroy, told the Times: 'He talked about killing people all the time.'
Gilroy said he made several complaints to G4S, the company where they both worked, because Mateen frequently used racial, ethnic and sexual slurs and sent him a barrage of 20 to 30 text message a day.
'He was always shaken, always agitated and always mad,' Gilroy added.
[. . .]
After spending most of the day searching Omar Mateen’s Port St. Lucie home, cops and the FBI moved on to the custom-built four-bedroom home a couple of blocks of north on Bayshore Boulevard where his parents live.
Neighbor, Tony Schneider, a retired deputy sheriff told Daily Mail Online that Seddique and Shahla Mateen are ‘the nicest people in the world.’
‘They are very Americanized, he said. ‘Just very good neighbors. I have known them for six years and have never had any problems with them.

A gay, high school classmate who knew Omar Mateen before 2009 said he was friendly and showed no signs of being 'anti-gay'
But Mateen's father said he became enraged after seeing two men kissing
Mateen worked at GNC after high school and spent much of his time working out, while ex-wife Sitora Yusufiy said he had history using steroids
Yusufiy said Mateen was unstable and physically abusive - the two married in 2009 and officially divorced in 2011
Noor Zahi Salman was listed as his wife in 2013 mortgage, sources report
They had son together, but Salman has been living at new address
Head of Mateen's mosque in Florida said he was quiet, visited frequently with his son, and rarely interacted with other members of congregation
Former coworker said Mateen frequently talked about killing people and used racial, ethnic and sexual slurs

Plymouth, MA Policeman Saves Life of Father Of Groom At Wedding

RIGHT MAN, RIGHT PLACE: Sgt. Jason Higgins, a 19-year veteran of the Plymouth Police Department, saved the life of a man while dining off-duty at White Cliffs Country Club.

[From article]
Mike Reynolds had just performed a beautiful song he wrote to his son and his new bride on their wedding day when the father of the groom collapsed, hurling the happy occasion into chaos.
After singing and playing guitar to a melody he penned called “I Do,” Reynolds walked over to the tables at the White Cliffs Country Club in Plymouth Saturday night to shake the minister’s hand — and his heart stopped and he sank to the floor.
Reynolds, 66, is alive today, his family happily told me yesterday, because Plymouth police Sgt. Jason Higgins happened to be dining with his family at the club that night.
“My husband actually died twice and Jason brought him back to life,” Sandy Reynolds said from her husband’s hospital room. “He’s a hero.”
Flash back to the Milton couple’s wedding Saturday night. Groom David Hazelwood said he stood with his guests for a standing ovation after his father’s performance. Suddenly his new bride, Natasha, shouted with alarm, “Your dad! Your dad!”
[. . .]
In the club’s restaurant, Higgins, 41, was out with his fiancee’s family for dinner to thank them for helping out with the couple’s 5-week-old baby girl. A club employee recognized the police sergeant.
“She started screaming my name and she needed my help,” said Higgins, a father of three who has been with the department for 19 years.
Higgins ran into the reception room as the DJ, believe it or not, was playing “Amazing Grace.” Guests were praying and crying. Reynolds wasn’t breathing and had no pulse.
Higgins got down on his knees and began doing chest compressions. A female guest set up a defibrillator and put the pads on the man’s chest. The bride’s brother administered rescue breaths.
All Higgins could think, he recalled yesterday, was, “I want to save this guy.”
It wasn’t the first time Higgins was asked to save a life while off-duty.
He came to the rescue of a choking teenager nearly three years ago by giving him the Heimlich maneuver.
[. . .]
“It was amazing,” Higgins said.
The reception erupted into applause.
Sandy said Higgins stayed with her the whole time, even holding her hand.
An assistant Culver City, Calif., school superintendent, Mike Reynolds was taken to Beth Israel Deaconess Medical Center in Boston, where he is scheduled to undergo bypass surgery today, his wife said.
[. . .]
“I didn’t do anything heroic. Police officers across this state provide critical care to the public on a daily basis,” he said. “We just do what we signed up for.”
But Sandy Reynolds and her family aren’t buying that. The doctors and nurses told her it was Higgins’ chest compressions that saved Mike’s life.
“Without that,” she said through tears, “my husband would not be here today.”
“I just love him,” she said of Higgins. “I’m so happy he came into our lives when he did.”

Groom Shot At Wedding in India

[From article]
A joyful celebration quickly turned into panic when a wedding guest shot a groom in the head, apparently by mistake, in an incident caught on video.
Fortunately, the groom survived, but he was seriously hurt. Officials called off Thursday’s wedding ceremony in northern India before it could finish, ANI reports.
The video showed the groom falling to the ground in a cloud of smoke after the shot rang out.
Celebratory gunfire at weddings is banned in India, according to the Hindustan Times.
The dramatic scene unfolded in the city of Hisar, 100 miles northwest of New Delhi. Police said they would launch an investigation based on the information they received from the groom’s father.

Love Is Not All You Need For A Civil Society

[From article]
As an attorney who has dabbled in family law, and a former prosecutor, it often strikes me that this ditty doesn’t apply to a substantial chunk of people in the U.S. In fact, America as a nation doesn’t seem all that enamored with the idea of love anymore -- at least not the highest form of love, that which sustains marriage and families.
For those who might think otherwise, I’d suggest they look at the latest numbers regarding marriage and family. Both institutions remain in serious decline: The percentage of married households in the U.S. has now dipped to an all-time low. (2010 was the first year in our history that fewer than half of all households were married households.) And the rate of newly formed marriages has hovered near its all-time low for several years. America doesn’t seem to care much for children anymore, either. Our birth rate has also hovered near an all-time low for several years. Four out of every ten of those record-low births are out-of-wedlock -- and one in three children grows up in a household without a father.
[. . .]
And here’s the problem. We can’t have it both ways. Granted, many factors have contributed to the decline of marriage and family in the U.S, but one underlying factor is frequently overlooked: America’s obsession with pleasurable indulgence. Marriage and family will inevitably decline in a society of too many self-absorbed pleasure junkies, which is basically what we’ve become.
The selfless, sacrificial love that’s necessary to sustain marriage and families involves doing the difficult -- whether one feels like it or not: foregoing one’s self-interest for others; compromising with others; and putting children's interests ahead of one’s own. But pleasure junkies have conditioned themselves to do the opposite. They’re accustomed to doing the easy things (e.g. overeating, overspending, smoking, viewing pornography), and focusing on themselves, rather than doing difficult things for others or for a greater common good.
[. . .]
Unfortunately, our overindulgence in pleasure doesn’t stop at eating, drinking, and spending. Millions are battling substance abuse and/or alcoholism. Millions more struggle with smoking, gambling, hard and soft-core pornography, video games, prescription drugs, and other addictive products and behaviors.
Many people fail to connect the dots between our addiction to pleasure on the one hand, and the decline of American marriage and family on the other. But the connection is real. Commonsense tells us so. Before the No Pain, No Gain mantra seized the world of personal fitness, my folks used to counsel me with a similar adage: Little Effort, Little Results. The phrase was commonplace during my teen and young adulthood years, and it wasn't restricted to my school or work life. It applied to my personal life as well.
[. . .]
When it came to marriage and family, my parents thankfully didn’t preach much; instead they taught by example. I watched them do the difficult things necessary to make their marriage work.
[. . .]
Good parents know that raising children requires tremendous self-giving and sacrifice. There’s less sleep, flexibility, time, money, and energy to do just about everything a couple wants to do for themselves.
Indulgence in pleasure takes very little willpower. A lack of willpower to do what’s difficult, and focus on self, are hardly the habits one can afford to bring into long-term relationships, particularly marriage and family relations. Like eating a good diet, exercise, or saving money -- marriage and family involve persistent effort and sacrifice. Nowadays, large numbers of Americans seem ill-prepared to undergo this sacrifice and effort.
[. . .]
Many if not most of America’s ongoing ills can be tied to the decline of marriage and family: poverty, dependency, welfare, crime -- insolvency of Social Security and Medicare due to low birth rates. If Americans continue their attachment to doing the easy things for themselves, and don’t reclaim the mantle of effort and sacrifice for others in relationships, then marriage and family will continue to weaken, and that once great civilization, America, will continue to weaken along with them.

Long Island, NY Rabbi, Married Five Times, Is Celebrated by Some

Toby Gotesman Schneier, one of the rabbi's extra curricular lovers

[From article]
The Hamptons’ “rabbi to the stars,” Marc Schneier, really loves thy neighbor — a little too much.
Schneier, 57, has been married — and divorced — five times. Now he’s flitting about the Jewish social circuit with Simi Teitelbaum, a 30-something blond Israeli party girl and former flight attendant who led to the demise of his fifth marriage. His congregation, which had shrugged off his indiscretions for years, has had enough.
[. . .]
“He is not fit to be the rabbi of our congregation,” Lloyd Landow, 76, a Long Island architect and longtime synagogue member who led the crusade, wrote in an e-mail to more than 100 synagogue members.
[. . .]
Schneier, the 18th generation of an esteemed rabbinic dynasty, [. . .] founded the tony synagogue in 1990 and was the recipient of the Martin Luther King Jr. “Measure of a Man” award from the NAACP in the ’90s. “I will continue to be a part of our community, as you all have a very special place in my heart.”
[. . .]
In January 1981, while a 21-year-old rabbinic student at Yeshiva University, he married Brooklyn native and Barnard College student Elissa Shay, then just 20. The chief rabbis of Israel and Romania officiated, but the marriage lasted less than a year
[. . .]
Schneier explained away his unholy extramarital hookups by saying he was mentally ill and seeking treatment.
[. . .]
“People at shul accepted his adulterous affairs and outrageous behavior,” says the friend who wants to distance himself from Schneier. “It’s like, ‘Marc cheated on his wife again, what’s new?’ It became a running joke: the annual Marc Schneier wedding.”
Conveniently, Schneier had appointed his own board of mostly men who were apparently willing to look the other way — and to compensate him well. (In most synagogues, the congregation — not the rabbi — chooses the board.)
[. . .]
ex-wife Gotesman tells The Post. “When I left him, he was making $800,000.” She says that included a $500,000 salary, plus hundreds of thousands in additional compensation, including mortgage payments on his 5,000-square-foot Westhampton Beach home, said to be valued around $3 million.
Morality — or lack thereof — wasn’t a big concern for many synagogue-goers.
“The congregation was out to party. They come for the 3 F’s — fun, food, and f - - king,” says Esther Muller, a Columbus Circle resident who works in real estate and has known Schneier for decades.
[. . .]
“He’s not a George Clooney — I don’t know what they see in him,” says an Upper West Side friend of Leiner’s who asked to remain anonymous. She sympathizes with her friend, now a single mom to an almost-2-year-old girl, but concedes: “She’s not innocent. None of them are innocent.”
Schneier’s divorcing a wife with a young child seemed to be the final straw.
[. . .]
“It’s an abuse of power,” says Sara Shulevitz, a 30-something criminal-defense attorney who splits her time between Miami and New York and has been to services led by Schneier. “A lot of women admire and look up to rabbis, especially in [Orthodox Judaism], because there are no female rabbis. It’s horrible for a rabbi to abuse that trust, [but] a lot of people look the other way because he’s a powerful man.”
[. . .]

“Look, he obviously has a weakness; his attention span for a mate is different from others’,” says Jeff Wiesenfeld, 58, who works in private-wealth management and has known the rabbi for 35 years. “But in terms of what he’s done [for the shul], he’s a phenomenon.”
“He’s the greatest — he built this from nothing,” says Graulich, the acolyte from New Rochelle, who praises the rabbi’s successful turnaround of the Jewish-averse Hamptons back in 1990, when there was scarcely any Semitic life there, let alone a haute spot for the monied class to mingle. “They wouldn’t allow Jews to join the country clubs.”
He happily drives the two hours each way every Saturday to hear his unimpeachable leader, who can do no wrong.
“He’s married, he’s divorced — big deal . . . King Solomon had 20 wives. Five is nothing,” says Graulich.
Plus, he says: “I like controversy. I don’t like a boring shul. I want Peyton Place as a shul; if I wanted a boring shul, I’d go to Westchester.”

Drew Barrymore Splits From Third Husband

Drew BarrymorePhoto: JON KOPALOFF/FILMMAGIC

Maybe now she will recognize her mistakes and come live with me.
[From article]
Another source added, “Drew had a very rebellious and wild childhood, with no family around her, and while she is a very different person now, and a great mother, some of that can stay with you.”
It’s the third failed union for the “E.T.” beauty.
Her first marriage, at age 19, was to bartender Jeremy Thomas in 1994, and lasted less than two months. Her second, in 2001, was to comedian Tom Green, her co-star in “Charlie’s Angels,” and lasted five months.
[. . .]
Barrymore, who had a troubled childhood with two stints in rehab, told InStyle magazine last year about meeting Kopelman in early 2012, just four months before their wedding at her $6 million Montecito, Calif., estate.
“It was never really love at first sight. Will struck a lot of my pragmatic sides. He was someone who was always reachable on the phone, someone who was a classy human being, someone who has this incredible blueprint of a family that I don’t have.”
She told Us Weekly last year that she and Kopelman, “compromise on a lot of things.” “We know each other very well and know what our likes and dislikes are, and what works and doesn’t work.

STEM Educated Gentleman Accused of Abusing Woman Co-worker

Engineer Syen Emad Hasan (pictured), 30, proposed to the 27-year-old woman but she rejected him and said her family would not allow 'an inter-religious marriage'.

[From article]
An Indian man has been accused of kidnapping and raping a female colleague for five days to force her to convert to Islam.
Engineer Syen Emad Hasan, 30, proposed to the 27-year-old woman but she rejected him and said her family would not allow 'an inter-religious marriage', police said.
He harassed her until she cut short a work trip to Dubai. When she returned home to confront Hasan, he abducted her, locked her up at his house and took away her phone.
Hasan and the woman, who has not been named, worked together at a Dell computer repairs shop in Gachibowli, Hyderabad.
When she left the company and moved to Dubai in August, he 'continued to torture her on social media', police said.
'The woman told us she was forced to talk to Hasan as he showed her photos and videos of them together in Hyderabad, and threatened to send them to her father, said Inspector Ravinder.
He added: 'He [Hasan] also demanded that she send inappropriate photos of her.'
When she returned home to Hyderabad to confront him, he snatched her away to his flat in the al-Hasanath colony, Indian Express reported.
'He took three days’ leave and brutalised and sexually assaulted her,' said an officer of Hyderabad's 'She Team', a police unit tasked with investigating sexual assault.
They added: 'He threatened to continue doing so until she agreed to marry him after converting to Islam. He even threatened to set her on fire and strangle her.
[. . .]
After four days of captivity, the woman managed to get onto Facebook when Hasan was out and messaged her friend.
Her friend contacted her brother in the south western city of Karnataka, who made the 280 mile journey to Hyderabad and alerted the police.

IRS, NY and CA Attorneys General, Target National Marriage Non Profit, Criminal Violations

[From article]
The National Organization for Marriage, whose donor names were leaked by the IRS to hostile blogs, and nationally recognized conservative nonprofit organizations such as Media Research Center, Concerned Women for America, Citizens United, Family Research Council, Faith & Freedom Coalition, the Weyrich Lunch, Leadership Institute, and Project Veritas are among the 58 organizations on the brief.

The brief describes how Ms. Harris is using extortionate demands to intimidate and censor nonprofit advocacy organizations and charities by requiring they file with her a confidential tax return schedule showing their top donors. Those demands are worse than what the Alabama attorney general tried because they violate federal law protecting confidential tax return information. The New York attorney general is doing the same as Ms. Harris.
[. . .]
Here is a clip from part IV of the brief describing Ms. Harris’ clear violations of federal law, which, by the way, is supposed to impose criminal penalties on government officials who intentionally violate this law. The entire brief may be read here.

No Need To Reinvent The Wheel

In 1965 New York Senator Daniel Patrick Moynihan issued his study of the black American family. His observations remain accurate and the situation has only gotten worse. Rev. Rivers and Police Commissioner Evans are correct. Why has there been little effort to implement the findings of Sen. Moynihan? John DiIulio, political scientist reported findings similar to Moynihan. Yet the problems remain. It seems as if the lack of will among political leaders is an unresponsive bureaucracy.

[From article]
the irrepressible Rev. Eugene Rivers stepped up. “One of the things that came out of today’s meeting is the recognition that not everything that happens in our community is a policing issue. We need to be intercepting young people as early as 6, 7, 8, 9, 10 years old. That’s not a policing issue.
“When a 14-year-old kid,” Rivers continued, “has a 40-member gang and hasn’t shot anybody yet, technically that’s not a law enforcement issue … we gotta intercept that child where grandma is 35, mom is 15, and Junebug is 3. That’s not a public safety issue. That’s not a policing issue.”

Wounded Veteran Proposes With Two Bush Presidents Watching

'Will you marry me?' Army Spc. Tyler Jeffries gets down on one of his prosthetic knees to propose to Lauren Lilly at Kennebunkport, while the former presidents and their wives look on.

[From article]
A soldier who lost both legs in Afghanistan proposed to his girlfriend in Maine - while two former presidents and their first ladies looked on.
George H.W. Bush, George W. Bush and their wives Barbara and Laura watched as retired Army Spc. Tyler Jeffries proposed to Lauren Lilly at the Bush summer home in Kennebunkport.
The elder Bush, who is recovering from breaking a bone in his neck during a fall, later tweeted his congratulations - wishing them 'a lifetime of joy together'.
[. . .]
Jeffries, who is from Florida, lost his legs - one above the knee and the other below the knee - in an IED explosion in 2012.
He was among several wounded veterans invited to Walker's Point on Monday after being featured in the book 'Unbreakable Bonds: The Mighty Moms and Wounded Warriors of Walter Reed.'
George H. W. Bush wrote the foreword to the book, which discusses mothers helping their sons recover from combat injuries at Walter Reed National Military Medical Center in Bethesda, Maryland.
[. . .]
Two friends helped him drop on to his prosthetic knee to pop the question.
His girlfriend shouted 'Yes!' without a moment's hesitation.
The couple have only been dating for three months but Jeffries said as soon as he saw Lilly, he knew she was the girl for him.

North Carolina Husband, 90, Saves Wife, 68, From House Fire

Arthur Schneider said his wife Rosemary is 'part of me.'

[From article]
A 90-year-old man pulled his wife of 68 years to safety in her wheelchair as a fire ravaged their North Carolina home.
Arthur Schneider jumped into action after a lightning storm hit a street transformer, causing flames to crawl through his Asheboro house, he told the Daily News Saturday.
Arthur immediately thought of his wife Rosemary, 89, who has Parkinson’s disease and dementia. She was all the way at the back of the house and cannot walk.
“I had to go back and get her,” Arthur said. “She’s part of me.”
[. . .]
Arthur, who grew up in the Bronx, wheeled Rosemary out to the front porch and ran across his yard — which is “the size of a football field ” — to get help from a neighbor, his daughter Bernadette Such said. He made the dash without his cane, despite his "terrible limp," she said.
[. . .]

Photo: COURTESY BERNADETTE SUCH
Arthur and Rosemary Schneider got married on Oct. 27, 1946.

Arthur shrugged off claims he acted heroically.
“I don’t know if it’s so incredible. I think anybody else would do the same thing,” he said.
But Thursday’s rescue was just the latest example of Arthur’s devotion to his wife, Such said.
Arthur has taken care of Rosemary, feeding her and cleaning her, since she was put in hospice care a couple years ago. He even insisted on putting her hospital-style bed next to his bed so they can sleep next to each other.
“My dad is a saint,” Such said. “I told him you’ll go straight to heaven for what he’s done for her the last two or three years.”
The couple met during World War II after Rosemary wrote to Arthur, who was serving in Guam in the Navy. Six months after they met in person, they got married in October 1946.

Hillary Clinton's College Thesis About Saul Alinsky

[From article]
Does it strike anyone as strange that the only candidate for the Democratic Party’s nomination to be the next President of the United States is the wife of a former President? There is no historic precedent for this, no way to measure this against how Americans have selected Presidents in the past.
Like most Americans, I first took notice of her when Bill began his campaign to become President. I recall being struck by the fact that in 1969 as a student at Wellesley College, her 92-page senior thesis was devoted to the community organizer, Saul Alinsky’s book. The title of the thesis was “There is Only the Fight…”: An Analysis of the Alinski Model.” She would request Wellesley to deny access to it.
Alinksy was a Communist. His twelve rules for radicals, unlike the Ten Commandments, are devoid of a moral message. Instead, the message is “this is how you can win.” Hillary would do well to review Rule 7, “A tactic that drags on too long becomes a drag.” She was already old news when she announced her candidacy and it is becoming older with every passing day as she fails to take questions from the media, participating in totally staged events to look like “one of the people.”
She and Bill are not one of the people. They, like the Bushes, are political royalty. They have both been around a very long time.
[. . .]
What are her fundamental principles beyond the acquisition of political power? And money. Lots of it while uttering nonsense such as she and Bill being “dead broke” when they left office?
[. . .]

How devoid of any real leadership has the Democratic Party become if the only candidate they can offer is a former First Lady? That has been her primary claim to fame despite the two offices she has held since the 1990s.
I suggest that Hillary ceases to be an enigma if you just think of the Wellesley student who thought the best topic for her senior thesis was the book by a dedicated Communist, Saul Alinsky.

Increasing Alcohol Abuse By Educated Women

[From article]
But only a 57-year-old career woman like myself can truly understand why educated, successful women of a certain age drink so much. I know a lot of them. Just as I know many happy career mums who let their jobs take a back seat while nurturing their kids and supporting their husbands — and they rarely drink to excess.
If the OECD report had done a bit more research, it would actually have found there’s a direct link between middle-class alcoholism among women and being single or divorced.
It’s not professional pressure that stiffens all these women’s wrists as they pull out that cork when they get home at night — it’s loneliness. That’s the real dark side of equality.
[. . .]
And if any of us needed a lesson in what feminism brings you, look to Germaine Greer, author of The Female Eunuch and one of the most strident female voices of the 20th century — aged 76 and living alone.
[. . .]
So, why is drink so important to this clever, lucky group of us?
There’s another unfeminist theory suggesting that once women move into traditionally male preserves and exercise authority, we adopt men’s habits.
[. . .]
Alcohol is warming, cheering and temporarily gives you courage. A first drink fogs the brain, wobbles the perceptions, relaxes the limbs, pushes harsh thoughts down. Its spreading vapour seems to fill a dark hole of uncertainty and shame inside you. And uncertainty and shame are a curse of female nature.
Men feel these things, too, but when a chap fails at a task, gets a hard time from his boss, feels patronised or muffs a promotion interview, he may find it easier to mutter: ‘Bastards!’ He can assume the attitude of a noble warrior-beast surrounded by enemies and lash out verbally (ideally not physically, Clarkson . . .).
Women, on the other hand, like to keep the peace and so are fatally prone to internalise humiliation.

New Television Series Married People Sleep With Strangers

[From article]
In the series, four couples “at a crossroads in their relationship” — FYI did not say if they’ve all been married seven years — get the chance to shack up with a stranger for two weeks in an “experimental marriage.”
They will eat, live and, yes, “sleep” with these total strangers, the network said.
[. . .]
Gena McCarthy, SVP Programming and Development at FYI, described it as an experiment to determine whether absence really does make the heart grow fonder, sidestepping the whole shacking-up-with-a-stranger part.

Bridegroom Has Seizure at Wedding, Bride Marries Another

The couple were exchanging traditional flower garlands when the groom had a seizure.
[From article]
An Indian bride has reportedly swapped her groom for a wedding guest mid-ceremony after her fiancé had an epileptic seizure.
Jugal Kishore, 25, reportedly fell to the ground during the traditional exchange of “varmala” flower garlands in the northern town of Rampur.
His illness was a shock to his wife-to-be, 23-year-old Indira, who was apparently furious that she and her family had not been told of Mr Kishore’s epilepsy.
Instead of calling the wedding off, she quickly chose wedding guest Harpal Singh, her sister’s brother-in-law, to replace him.
[. . .]
Shocked at returning to his own wedding to find his fiancée celebrating her marriage to someone else, he and his relatives reportedly pleaded with Indira to reverse her decision.
When diplomacy failed, the family allegedly resorted to violence and entered into a brawl involving plates and cutlery.

Woman Beheads Man Who Wanted Her to Perform Pornographic Acts

[From article]
The woman, identified as Gönül S., met Osman T. in the Isparta province last September. The man promised her a civil marriage, if they would be still happy after two or three months living together.
"I accepted and moved in with Osman following a religious marriage ceremony. After 20 days, he began resorting to violence. He has been trying to have sex every day and I was finding an excuse to avoid it. He has been watching German porn channels, wanting me to do the acts he saw there," Gönül S. told the prosecutor in her testimony, Doğan News Agency reported Feb. 7.
[. . .]
The woman, who has a 12-year-old son from a previous marriage, has been beaten and insulted by Osman T. whenever she resisted his "deviant offers," the testimony said. The couple's latest quarrel on Jan. 30 turned out deadly after the woman's son tried to protect her mother, hitting the man with an antenna.
"He was still conscious. My son was scared and ran away to another room. I grabbed the kitchen knife when Osman clutched my throat again. I managed to push him to the floor face down and cut him in the back of the neck. I heard him grunting," said Gönül S., who has a taekwondo blue belt.
The woman, who was jailed pending trial, added that she was regreftul for the murder.

Russian men have been paying big bucks to sleep with somebody else’s wife.
Authorities in Moscow recently raided a brothel that only employs married women — and they charge more than six times the usual price, Central European News reports.
“A seven-room apartment had been turned into an exclusive brothel where prostitutes were allowed to work only if they brought a marriage certificate,” said police spokesman Margarita Maslova.

Dutch Gentleman Convicted of Murder of One Woman, Main Suspect In Another, Fathered Child With New Bride, Was Beaten In Peruvian Prison

]Van der Sloot, the main suspect in the 2005 disappearance of U.S. teenager Natalee Holloway, was stabbed three times on Oct. 27 and then again in his kidney on Sunday in the Challapalca prison, his lawyer Maximo Altez told Reuters by telephone, without giving further details.
But the head of Peru’s penitentiary system, INPE, dismissed the charge as false and said the prisoner’s wife, who made the allegations, fabricated the story, according to local media.
“Absolutely nothing has happened to him, that woman is lying,” INPE head Jose Luis Perez was quoted as saying in the local newspaper, La Republica.

Van der Sloot married Peruvian citizen Leidy Figueroa, with whom he has a child, at a prison in July.

The two prison attacks come just days after Van der Sloot penned a rambling letter from his jail cell blasting the country's prison authorities for violating ‘every one’ of his human rights.
In the letter, obtained by MailOnline, Van der Sloot claims he and other inmates at the Challapalca prison are subject to daily beatings, torture and humiliation at the hands of sadistic jail staff.
And he says he fears for his life after claiming wardens told him they have been given the ‘green light’ to ‘break all his bones’.
His four-page handwritten letter was smuggled out of the remote lock-up, which is located at an altitude of 16,000 feet in the Andes mountains, close to the borders with Bolivia and Chile.
[. . .]
‘The prisoners are constantly beaten and tortured by the wardens. The men sleep in cells full of their own excrement. The whole place stinks of sewage.
‘Many of the men are dying of tuberculosis and other diseases. But there's no doctor or medical department in the prison so the men are just left to die.
‘There are men who have broken bones and bruises all over their bodies from the beatings.
‘The prisoners just get a two-liter bottle of water a week. If they want more water they have to pay the wardens for it. So they can't clean themselves properly.’

Teenager Plans to Marry Her Father, And Live In NJ Where It's Legal

[From interview article]
In the late '80s, the founder of a support group for adopted children who had recently reconnected with their biological relatives coined the term “Genetic Sexual Attraction” (GSA) to describe the intense romantic and sexual feelings that she observed occurring in many of these reunions. According to an article in The Guardian, experts estimate that these taboo feelings occur in about 50 percent of cases where estranged relatives are reunited as adults (GSA’s discoverer had herself become attracted to the son she’d adopted out when she met him 26 years later, but her feelings were not reciprocated).
Though the research is scarce, those who have studied GSA offer a range of possible explanations for it, including a primordial feeling of always having “belonged” to the estranged relative, a sense of wanting to experience the bonding missed out on during childhood, or simply an overwhelming closeness based on similarities: like meeting a mate who was designed for you in a science lab. Perhaps GSA accounts for Kevin Gates’s attraction to his first cousin.

The woman says he father was in and out of her life mostly when she was young. She recalls wondering where he was and why she hadn't hear from him. There was no contact for 12 years and she did not finally meet him again until she was 17.
Her father reached out to her on Facebook when she was in high school and soon after, the woman went to stay with him for a week.
After the week, the 18-year-old revealed they had sex and were dating after.
Many people were aware of the situation.
"Everyone on my mom’s side of the family sees us as father and daughter," she told the magazine. "Those who know that he’s my dad, and that we are engaged, include my father’s parents (they can see we are happy together and they can’t wait for us to have babies — they treat us just like any other couple), the woman we live with, and my best friend."
After the wedding, the woman says they plan to move to New Jersey where adult incest is legal.

Billy Joel Learned About Love The Hard Way

“You just need one — one person out of millions — to know and accept and love you for being, well, just the way you are . . . I see old folks walking down the street who look like they’ve been together 50 years, and there’s something very touching about it — that they’ve lasted so long. I used to wonder: How come I don’t have that? I can dream about it, think about it, write music and lyrics and sing about it. I can even try to achieve it again, and often have.”
His three tortured marriages — and the music they’ve inspired — are testament to that.
[. . .]
“You can have all the money in the world, you can have mansions, you can have properties, you can have yachts, you can have limousines, you can have motorcycles,” he told Schruers. But without love, “it doesn’t mean a goddamn thing.”
