Palin Criticizes PETA For Selective Priorities

Former Alaska Gov. Sarah Palin and former vice presidential candidate criticized PETA in a Facebook post Saturday. (AP Photo/Manuel Balce Ceneta)

[From article]
The former Alaska governor then pivoted to PETA's relationship with the 44th president: "Did you go as crazy when your heroic Man-of-Your-Lifetime, Barack Obama, revealed he actually enjoyed eating dead dog meat?"

Palin then proceeded to assail PETA for their treatment of the Alaska fishing industry, the Iditarod dog sled race and the beef industry.
"Yeah, you’re real credible on this, PETA," she wrote. "A shame, because I’ll bet we agree on what I hope is the true meaning of your mission — respecting God’s creation and critters."

Black Middle Class Harasses Young White People, Encouraging A Race War?

Targeted: Once inside, they 'disrupted' customers' meals by reading out the names of African-Americans killed by police, including Michael Brown, 17, who was shot dead by officer Darren.

Black "victims" harass white people who are all oppressors, racists and support "killer" police. How propaganda keeps getting weirder and weirder.

[From article]
In each eatery invasion, they called out the names of unarmed black men killed in confrontations with cops, such as Eric Garner in Staten Island and Michael Brown in Ferguson, Mo.
New York restaurants such as Lallisse, Maialino and Pershing Square were reportedly targeted for loud meal-time disruptions. Big Apple organizers likened their brunch attacks to 1960s sit-ins.
[. . .]
“What were sit in in the 60s but disrupting business as usual?” they wrote under the Twitter handle @BlackBrunchNYC. “Then and now we can’t let people ignore an unjust system.”
Organizers said they were targeting “white spaces” so Caucasian brunch-goers could grasp the injustices faced by African-Americans at the hands of cops.
[. . .]
Surprisingly, the protesters were often greeted with support by their targets.
At Forge restaurant in Oakland, customers and manager Katherine Pinson, 33, embraced the movement.
“I think it’s beautiful,” Pinson told the Los Angeles Times. “It’s a message that needs to be heard, and if they have to disrupt business and daily life for a minute, then I’m glad we could help.”

[From article]
Dozens of demonstrators today stormed restaurants and targeted white diners in New York and California as part of a 'Black Brunch' protest against alleged police violence.
Carrying banners, the chanting protesters entered a number of venues in New York City that they identified as 'white spaces', including midtown eateries: Lallisse, Maialino and Pershing Square.
Once inside, they 'disrupted' customers' meals by reading out the names of African-Americans killed by police, including Michael Brown, 17, who was shot dead by officer Darren Wilson last August.
Addressing staff and patrons, they shouted: 'Every 28 hours, a black person in America is killed by the police. These are our brothers and sisters. Today and every day, we honor their lives.'
[. . .]
Alongside an image of protesters inside a New York restaurant, Sharmin Ultra, tweeted: 'We interrupt your brunch time to let you know there is a war on Black lives. We will not stay silent.'
Another, using the handle @telushk, wrote: 'We're asking brunchgoers to STAND for black life. A good number in the last spot stood or raised their fists.
[. . .]
Although the demonstration has been largely peaceful - with no arrests made - there have been several reports of protesters getting into heated discussion with staff and customers.
And while many have applauded the nonviolent tactic online, other social media users have mocked it and some have even criticized it as 'pathetic' and 'ridiculous'.

Bess Meyerson, Dies at 90, Worked For John Lindsay, Ed Koch, US Senate Candidate, Obituary

Cover of her book

[From article]
Bess Myerson, a New York favorite daughter who basked in the public eye for decades — as Miss America 1945, as a television personality, as a force in public affairs and finally, under a harsher light, as a player in a shattering municipal scandal — died on Dec. 14 at her home in Santa Monica, Calif., her death occurring in the relative obscurity in which she had lived her last years. She was 90.

As Miss America

[. . .]
Her coronation, on Sept. 8, 1945, just days after Japan’s surrender had ended World War II, came at a time when a beauty queen could still capture the nation’s attention and even emerge a heroine — in Ms. Myerson’s case as the first (and, so far, only) Jewish Miss America.
[. . .]

Being Sworn By NYC Mayor John V. Lindsay

Mayor John V. Lindsay named her as the city’s first commissioner of consumer affairs. She seized on the job, succeeding in gaining passage of some of the nation’s toughest consumer-protection laws.
[. . .]
Few sponsors, it turned out, wanted a Jewish Miss America to endorse their products. Certain country clubs and hotels barred her as she toured the country after the pageant. Appearances were canceled.

Steven Seagal Accused Of Sex Abuses

Steven Seagal and Kelly LeBrock were married for nine years and have three children together.

[From article]
According to court papers filed last week, Kayden Nguyen, a 23-year-old former model, filed a $1 million sexual trafficking and sexual harassment lawsuit against the "Under Siege" actor. She claims he hired her as an assistant, but then used her as a "sex toy."
Two other women have reportedly provided sworn declarations to assist Nguyen's lawsuit. Among those women is Ray Charles' granddaughter, Blair Robinson.
Like Nguyen, both women worked for Seagal but quit after he allegedly made inappropriate sexual advances at them.
[. . .]
"I was constantly raped and abused my whole life," she revealed.
When asked if she was claiming that Seagal ever raped her, LeBrock replied, "I had a life before Steven Seagal, and a life after him. This book is not about Steven Seagal. But good or bad, he is a part of my life."

Three-week Old California Baby Missing, Parents Shot

Eliza Delacruz (Long Beach Police Department)

[From article]
A 3-week-old baby was taken from a home in Southern California, snatched by a man suspected of shooting the infant’s mother and two others.
Long Beach detectives are searching for the alleged gunman as they issued an appeal to the public late Saturday, asking for help in locating the missing baby, Eliza Delacruz.
KTLA-TV said the police responded to a home on the city’s north side around 6 p.m. Saturday and found three shooting victims inside.
The baby’s mother, her boyfriend and her boyfriend’s brother were taken to the hospital with gunshot wounds, the station reported.
The Long Beach Police Department said all three were in critical but stable condition.

Shipping Containers Modified For Homes In Detroit

AP Photo/Carlos Osorio). In a Wednesday, Dec. 17, 2014 photo, General Motors millwrights Mike Edwards, rear, and Chris Mathis work on drywall panels inside a container home being remodeled inside the GM Detroit-Hamtramck Assembly plant in Detroit.

[From article]
Come spring, the house-in-progress will be delivered to Detroit's North End neighborhood and secured on a foundation where a blighted home once stood. After finishing touches and final inspections, the 40-foot-long former container will feature 320 square feet of living space with two bedrooms, a bathroom and a kitchen, and will serve as home base for a university-student caretakers of a neighborhood farm and agricultural research activities.
One shipping container home won't turn around Detroit's housing woes. The city emerging from bankruptcy has roughly 40,000 vacant homes waiting to be demolished. But it's a start and, organizers hope, a model to lure and keep residents as Detroit removes blight and recovers from bankruptcy.
Shipping containers converted into living or working spaces are common in some other cities. For instance, in Salt Lake City's rundown warehouse district, a nonprofit group last year converted them into "micro-retail" spaces. A Seattle-based company designs and builds houses out of reclaimed containers.

How Al Sharpton Makes Money From Corporations

Does that mean that Obama, Holder, Jeh Johnson, Charles Rangel are not race hustlers?

[From article]
Want to influence a casino bid? Polish your corporate image? Not be labeled a racist?
Then you need to pay Al Sharpton.
For more than a decade, corporations have shelled out thousands of dollars in donations and consulting fees to Sharpton’s National Action Network. What they get in return is the reverend’s supposed sway in the black community or, more often, his silence.
[. . .]

“Al Sharpton has enriched himself and NAN for years by threatening companies with bad publicity if they didn’t come to terms with him. Put simply, Sharpton specializes in shakedowns,” said Ken Boehm, chairman of the National Legal & Policy Center, a Virginia-based watchdog group that has produced a book on Sharpton.
[. . .]
In 2008, Plainfield Asset Management, a Greenwich, Conn.-based hedge fund, made a $500,000 contribution to New York nonprofit Education Reform Now. That money was immediately funneled to the National Action Network.
The donation raised eyebrows. Although the money was ostensibly to support NAN’s efforts to bring “educational equality,” it also came at a time that Plainfield was trying to get a lucrative gambling deal in New York.
[. . .]

Sharpton raised $1 million for NAN at his 60th birthday bash in October, with donations rolling in from unions and a corporate roster of contributors including AT&T, McDonald’s, Verizon and Walmart.
Companies have long gotten in line to pay Sharpton. Macy’s and Pfizer have forked over thousands to NAN, as have General Motors, American Honda and Chrysler.
[. . .]
NAN had repeatedly and without success asked GM for donations for six years beginning in August 2000, a GM spokesman told The Post. Then, in 2006, Sharpton threatened a boycott of GM over the planned closing of an African-American-owned dealership in The Bronx. He picketed outside GM’s Fifth Avenue headquarters. GM wrote checks to NAN for $5,000 in 2007 and another $5,000 in 2008.
Sharpton targeted American Honda in 2003 for not hiring enough African-Americans in management positions.
[. . .]
Sharpton landed a gig as a $25,000-a-year adviser to Pepsi after he threatened a consumer boycott of the soda company in 1998, saying its ads did not portray African-Americans. He held the position until 2007

NYPD Turns Back on Mayor At Funeral Of Second Slain Officer

Police turned their backs to a video screen that showed Mayor de Blasio eulogizing executed cop Wenjian Liu. Photo: Shawn Cohen

[From article]
Hundreds of NYPD cops turned their backs on Mayor de Blasio on Sunday outside a Brooklyn funeral home as he eulogized a murdered NYPD officer inside.
As de Blasio addressed the loved ones of Detective Wenjian Liu in the Aievoli Funeral Home in Bensonhurst, the sea of blue watching the funeral on huge TV screens outside showed their disgust for Hizzoner by turning around as he spoke.
Cops have been furious with de Blasio mainly since the grand-jury rulings involving the deaths of Staten Island dad Eric Garner and Missouri teen Michael Brown, two unarmed black men who died during confrontations with white cops. Neither cop was criminally charged in cases.

French Police Attacked By Man Shouting "Allahu Akbar"

Is it only mentally ill people who shout "God is Great." that we need to fear? Should they be required to wear armbands to identify them?

[From article]
A man has tried to strangle a police officer while shouting "Allahu Akbar" (God is great), the latest in a spate of attacks in France that have heightened fears of terrorism.
The latest assault took place in the eastern city of Metz on Friday when a man arrested for bag-snatching asked the officer to bring him a glass of water.
When the policeman opened his cell door, the 23-year-old lunged at him and tried to throttle him while shouting "Allahu Akbar".
Other police officers saw the events on the video surveillance system and rushed to save their colleague, who had been thrown to the ground. His assailant was said to have a history of psychiatric problems.

US Soldiers Returned From Liberia, Held in Quaratine

Service members deployed in support of Operation United Assistance line up to go through customs Jan. 1, 2015, at an airport outside of Monrovia, Liberia, prior to boarding their flight back to the United States. Troops will go through 21 days of controlled monitoring at Joint Base Lewis-McChord, Wash.; Joint Base Eustis-Langley, Va.; Fort Hood, Texas; or Fort Bliss, Texas.

[From article]
A group of 100 soldiers returning to the States from an Ebola-response mission in West Africa arrived at Joint Base Lewis-McChord, Wash., on Friday to begin a mandatory quarantine.
[. . .]
The group spent the past two months in Liberia improving roads so that Liberians and visiting aid workers can have better access to new Ebola treatment facilities, said Sgt. 1st Class Justin Puetz of JBLM’s 593rd Expeditionary Sustainment Command.
The soldiers departed Liberia on Jan. 1.
[. . .]
The quarantine program is separate from the monitoring of JBLM Air Force personnel who have flown short missions to West Africa. These airmen tend to spend less than a day on the ground and don’t interact with Ebola patients. They are asked to watch themselves for symptoms, but they’re not quarantined and can continue to work their military and civilian jobs.

Year of Stupidity, 2014

[From article]
Robert Tracinski calls it the year of Ben Trovato, a name taken from an Italian adage meaning “if it’s not true, it’s a good story”.
Among the false narratives peddled by the left last year, he counts the following:
That Michael Brown had his hands up, indicating surrender, when he was shot by a Ferguson police officer;
Michelle Obama was the victim of racism at Target when someone asked her to get something from a top shelf;
Gruber’s truthful account of how Obamacare was foisted on us, made that a totally Ben Trovato operation from the outset;
The rape culture at the University of Virginia “where everybody forgot about Charlottesville’s real-life rapist and serial killer and spent weeks in a frenzy over a rape accusation that was not only false but had its corroborating details plagiarized from “Dawson’s Creek”;

Brandeis University Shows Weakness Protecting Speech

[From article]
In late December, following the unprovoked murder of two New York City police officers, Brandeis student Khadijah Lynch tweeted on Facebook: “I have no sympathy for the nypd officers who were murdered today.” Repeating herself the following day, she added: “I hate this racist fucking country.” Lynch had already made a dismal name for herself months earlier when she was quoted in the student newspaper (ironically named The Justice): “American police forces of today descend from a legacy of slave captives and overseers whose job was to protect the property (enslaved black bodies) of rich, slave owning capitalists.” To be sure, the slain police officers were Latin and Asian.
Lynch, of course, is entitled to freedom of speech. So, too, are her critics. Prominent among them was Daniel Mael, a courageous Brandeis senior and journalist for TruthRevolt.com, who had vigorously protested the president’s cave-in over the withdrawn degree offer to Hirsi Ali. He quoted Lynch’s words in an article he published later that day. Mael was pilloried by students who rallied to Lynch’s defense, one of whom preposterously claimed that his news site is largely followed by “white supremacist(s).”
No Brandeis faculty member or student leader publicly defended Mael. Instead, he was excoriated for violating Lynch’s “privacy,” although it was she who had chosen to go public with her Facebook rant. Lynch absurdly accused Mael of “slander” for publicizing her public posting.

Supreme Court Of The United States Has Second Chance to End Health Care Oppression

[From article]
The following is from a recent article posted on WorldNetDaily. PRESIDENT'S INNER CIRCLE CONCEDED OBAMACARE RATIONING; Gruber not alone in making frank admission
"In September 2012, Rattner penned an opinion piece in the New York Times titled 'Beyond Obamacare' in which he proclaimed 'We need death panels' and argued rationing must be instructed to sustain Obama’s health-care plan. His comments have been virtually ignored by traditional media as the president campaigns for a second term."
Other top Democrats made the same concessions, including another Obamacare architect Ezekiel Emanuel, Obama economic advisor Robert Reich and former Democratic presidential candidate Howard Dean. More about what they said can be found in the following online story: Four Times Obamacare Advocates Admitted It Will Kill Old People
There are many other issues that are coming to light and that were also predicted prior to Obamacare's implementation: rural hospitals and private practices are closing, doctors are getting on hospital payrolls as they consolidate, and with Medicaid expansion as part of the ACA the numbers are swelling creating a shortage in primary care doctors. And to make matters worse, many doctors are refusing to see people on Medicaid because of its poor reimbursement.
[. . .]
the IRS will have access to the health records of every American, something that has been overlooked so far in the healthcare debate.

Palestinians Have Better Quality of Life Than Most Muslim Dominated Nations

[From article]
You would think from all the press they get, and all the special treatment from the UN and donor countries, that the Palestinians were among the poorest people in the world, with short life spans and extreme poverty. But as an examination of the actual statistics (taken from the CIA’s World Fact Book), as the blog FirstOneThrough shows, the Palestinians are a lot better off than many, including many among their Arab brethren:

US Government Made Palestinian Terrorists Respectable

[From article]
A kleptocratic, corrupt, racist, terrorist-sponsoring political organization led by liars and thieves feels sufficiently emboldened to demand of the U.N. Security Council recognition of its sovereignty – and almost succeeds.
How did we get here?
The Palestinian leadership submission of a resolution to the U.N. Security Council on December 30th to recognize the State of Palestine was an act of hubris that makes Vladmir Putin’s interference in the Ukraine look like small potatoes. And doomed though it was, the fact that the Palestinians had the temerity to take such action, in violation of international commitments they have made, in abdication of their responsibility to negotiate all final matters of the disposition of the West Bank territories in good faith with the State of Israel, is an indication of how woefully removed is the world from any sort of balanced perspective on the Middle East conflict.
Blame for this atrocious mess can be meted out to many, but let’s start with the United States itself.
[. . .]
It should never be forgotten that the Palestinian Authority was a creature of the Oslo Peace Process; it was formed from the bones of the PLO – a terrorist organization – to provide a trustworthy face of Palestinian intentions to the world – one in which its leader, Yasser Arafat, a life long terrorist, would be transformed into a statesman. The idea was that if Arafat were given this badge of respectability he would take his statesmanship role seriously and would forswear violence for the sake of negotiation. If it worked in Ireland, then why not in the Middle East?
It was the first mistake. Arafat never lived up to any of his commitments and then turned a blind eye to terrorism from within his own ranks. Then in the year 2000, when he walked out of the Camp David peace talks between himself and Israeli prime minister Ehud Barak, he decided to renounce statesmanship altogether in a return to terrorism.
[. . .]
It should be recognized that Mahmoud Abbas’ Palestinian Authority is no different in character from Arafat’s version of the same entity and has transformed into just another rogue regime, opposed to the United States and U.S. national interests.

Holiday Publishing Schedule Winter 2014-2015

Please take notice that during the winter holiday period, from December 18, 2014 until January 2, 2015, due to circumstances beyond my control, publishing will be sporadic. A regular schedule will resume as soon as possible. Currently four crime families and their government associates conduct a brutal harassment campaign continuing previous 44 years of the same. One favorite element is denying my existence. They say, "He's not real." They refer to me as "it" dehumanizing me. That keeps away professionals who might stop the abuses, and allows limitless harms.  Thank you for your attention.

Santa Claus brought me a treat. A new lesbian to harass me. This one I think is from the midwestern outfit. Like the previous lesbians she too appears to work for a police agency and the crime organization which pays her to harass me. She is the kind of person who starts wars and who give police a bad name. A better gift was a piece of coal.

Merry Christmas!

Fake Scandal of Ranking Republican, Who Apologized Nonetheless

House Majority Whip Steve Scalise (R-LA)

Regarding this non-scandal, one radio talk show host said, "It is not a double standard. Democrats have no standards. Only Republicans have standards.

[From article]
the biggest story in every mainstream media outlet yesterday was the shattering revelation that House Majority Whip Steve Scalise (R-LA) spoke to a group with ties to the odious white supremacist David Duke in 2002? Ancillary stories blossomed with lightning speed throughout the day, spreading across the front pages like fractal patterns blooming on a computer screen saver: the latest comments from Scaliese, reactions from other Republican leaders, calls for his doom from top Democrats, hard-hitting political analysis from veteran correspondents about whether the “embattled” Republican could possibly survive this devastating scandal…
Have you checked the big news websites today? Nothing. Yesterday’s top story is gone. CBS and NBC still have day-old posts about Scalise apologizing for delivering the brief 12-year-old address he barely remembers, but he’s vanished everywhere else.
There’s a good reason for that: it turns out the big story was, depending on how charitable you’re feeling, either dubiously sourced, a mistake, or an outright hoax. It fell to Betsy Woodruff at Slate to dig deeper and discover that on the fateful day, Scalise actually spoke to an innocent civic association, along with representatives from the local sheriff’s office and the American Red Cross. The unpleasant chaps from the Duke-linked “EURO” group had the room booked after the civic association was finished with it.
This is all based on the shifting recollections of a “longtime associate of David Duke” and neighbor of Steve Scalise named Kenny Knight, who is beginning to look like the unreliable single source for a too-good-to-check “scoop” the mainstream media’s “multiple layers of fact-checkers and editors” didn’t bother to investigate thoroughly before cudgeling an apologetic sound bite out of the Majority Whip.
[. . .]
But really, what was Scalise supposed to do? He opens his front door one morning, cup of coffee in hand, and sees a media bulldozer coming right at him.
[. . .]
It’s also not unreasonable for rank-and-file Republicans to be worried that their top leaders can be so easily bullied by the press. If this was a recon strike on the GOP brass to test their media defenses for the rest of Obama’s lame-duck term, the results were encouraging for Democrats.
[. . .]
CNN’s headline on the overall Republican response was, “GOP Leadership Stands By Scalise After White Supremacist Speech.” You don’t need a real story, if you can cook up headlines like that; the headlines become the story.

The senators cite a November article from the Wall Street Journal that reported the Justice Department is targeting criminal suspects using the devices, which mimic cellphone towers and can also snag information and general phone locations of innocent Americans.
While not confirming or denying the existence of such a program, a Justice Department official told the paper that agencies comply with federal law, including by seeking court approval, and that discussion of such matters would allow suspects or foreign powers to determine U.S. surveillance capabilities.

NYC Mayor Re-appoints Turn-Em-Loose Judge

Mayor Bill de Blasio has reappointed Judge Laura Johnson to the bench. Johnson sparked controversy after she released Devon Coley without bail after he made death threats against the NYPD on Facebook. Photo: AP; Dan Brinzac

[From article]
Mayor Bill de Blasio delivered another blow to New York’s Finest on Wednesday when he reappointed a Brooklyn judge who freed without bail two men who threatened cops just days after the Bed-Stuy double police assassination.
The stunning decision came even as one of the suspects — a gang member charged with posting police death threats online — skipped a court date and had a warrant out for his arrest, sources said.
Brooklyn Criminal Court Judge Laura Johnson had faced a midnight expiration of her term. She was appointed by then-Mayor Mike Bloomberg in January 2013.

Top Ten Political Fantasies of 2014

[From article]
In 2014, a virtual avalanche of nonstop high-level governmental propaganda cascaded throughout the national media intended to snow-blind the average American voter. Here is a compilation of the most outrageous claims of a 21st Century statist government:
[. . .]
2. The Common Core State Standards are not a curriculum or set of lesson plans. -- U.S. Department of Education Website
The majority of states, many without any prior understanding of its ultimate goal, adopted Common Core standards at the behest of the federal government in exchange for millions of dollars in educational funding. It’s no surprise that identical books, assignments, and tests surfaced in multiple states. In 2014, Persepolis, a book-length Iranian cartoon promoting Iran’s culture at the expense of America’s, was assigned Honors English reading in Raleigh, AP English reading in Chicago, and was also made available in Oregon public schools. Pearson, the largest on-line book company, has now developed national tests for Common Core standards for implementation in 45 American states and the District of Columbia.

Common Core Divides Americans, Fails To Teach Students

[From article]
If you look at the “peaceful protestors” talking part in the recent demonstrations across America, what do you see? Young people who are products of the public school system. If you listen to the “peaceful protestors” what do you hear? Lies about America that were “taught” in the public schools. As if we need another reason to be cynical regarding Common Core, it continues the lies the built Ferguson. There is no doubt that our schools are places where a leftist agenda is being pushed but it gets even more sinister. Are we deliberately encouraging these protests and the resulting civil unrest?
[. . .]
Common Core tells me exactly what to teach. My students are tested on exactly what the experts want them to know. I am rated on whether they have “learned” the information that the creators of Common Core have deemed is a proper education.

Police Deserve Respect and Support of Citizens

[From article]
On September 12th, 2001 the first responders, both police and firemen, were heralded as heroes with numerous outpourings of praise. Then Cardinal Edward M. Egan, who was archbishop on the day of the attacks, gave a heartwarming benediction, “On 9/11, and on the days that followed, I became a member of the congregation... No one preached more powerfully than New York’s Finest. The Police Department of the City of New York, from the chief down to the rank-in-file, their sermon was about total sacrifice for others.” So what happened between then and now?
All interviewed believe that Americans have short memories. People forget that twenty-three NYPD officers died on 9/11 and approximately fifty died from injury and illnesses incurred during the rescue and aftermath.
[. . .]
By far the majority of police officers across the nation are true heroes. Every day they put their lives on the line for people regardless of their race, religion, or sex. It appears they are underappreciated and underpaid for what they do. All Americans need to speak out in support of the police.

Mario Cuomo Dies at 82, Saved New York Post, Inspired Citizens

[From article]
Cuomo and The Post were not friends. We mercilessly trashed his policies, and he retaliated in kind. Yet, while the loons battled for control after former owner Peter Kalikow faltered, Cuomo proved himself an honorable man of rare magnanimity.
When Hoffenberg was delivering daily, zany newsroom tirades, Cuomo popped in and promised, “We are looking at alternative forms of investment . . . just in case Mr. Hoffenberg should change his mind” — prompting Hoffenberg to sputter in rage.
[. . .]
The Post’s March 16, 1993, edition carried the famous front page showing founder Alexander Hamilton shedding a tear.
In a visit that day to demoralized Post staff in a diner next door, Cuomo celebrated the paper, “It’s like the World Trade Center towers, if it goes down, that’s bad for all New York.”
Summoning his great oratorical power, he roared, “I like to think The Post is indestructible, and if it survives Abe Hirschfeld, it will be” — and the room went wild.
[. . .]
Cuomo wrote to Rep. John Dingell, who oversaw the FCC: “I frequently disagree with The Post’s editorial stance . . . I anticipate that under . . . Rupert Murdoch, I will continue to find myself at odds . . . nevertheless I respect the value of a vigorous, independent journalism voice, and would join its other readers in bemoaning its passing.”
The FCC granted the waiver.
Maybe it would have happened anyway. But for legend’s sake, and for the heart he gave to us in our darkest hour, Mario Cuomo earned an unlikely hero’s place in The Post’s proud 213-year history.

“I watched a small man with thick calluses on both his hands work 15 and 16 hours a day. I saw him once literally bleed from the bottoms of his feet, a man who came here uneducated, alone, unable to speak the language, who taught me all I needed to know about faith and hard work by the simple eloquence of his example . . . That they were able to build a family and live in dignity and see one of their children go from behind their little grocery store in South Jamaica on the other side of the tracks where he was born, to occupy the highest seat, in the greatest state in the greatest nation . . . ,” Cuomo said in his famous Democratic convention speech.
Cuomo attended P.S. 50 and St. John’s Preparatory School. A gifted student, graduated at the top of his class at St. John’s University Law School in 1956 after earning a bachelor’s degree.
[. . .]
Mario and Matilda, also a St. John’s student at St. John’s who became a school teacher, wed in June, 1954. They have five children: Governor Andrew, Chris, Maria, Margaret and Madeline.
[. . .]
Cuomo first claim to fame came in the late 1960s as a community lawyer representing the “Corona Fighting 69”, a group of property owners fighting a plan to demolish their homes to make way for a new high school. After a six-year battle with the Lindsay administration, Cuomo and the homeowners prevailed in saving most of the homes from the wrecking ball.
Cuomo’s work in Corona caught the eye of then-Mayor John Lindsay, who tapped him to mediate a racially-tense dispute over the city’s plan to build low-income public housing towers in middle class Forest Hills. He fashioned a slimmed down, compromise plan that won the support of the community leaders as well as City Hall, a delicate feat that drew widespread praise and catapulted him into politics.

To nearly all who knew Mario Cuomo well, he was an underachieving enigma — brilliant yet indecisive, accomplished as a lawyer yet riddled with self-doubt as a politician, an initially popular governor who was eventually booted from office for failing to use that popularity to lead New York in a direction that would have made this a better state.
Early in Cuomo’s service as lieutenant governor, Robert Morgado, Gov. Hugh Carey’s longtime chief of staff, startled me with the observation that Carey was convinced there was “something odd with Mario” — that he was arrogant, angry and often resentful toward those he worked with in public life.
[. . .]
Mario Cuomo was one of the nation’s greatest orators, but his sometimes-dazzling speeches — like his keynote to the Democratic National Convention in San Francisco in 1984 — almost always lacked answers to the problems they addressed.
[. . . ]
People who knew him well often joked that Mario Cuomo was someone who was ready with a question for every answer.
[. . .]
he repeatedly told friends he was comfortable serving as a defense lawyer even in cases involving accused murderers but could never be comfortable as a prosecutor because, he said, he never would feel sure enough that someone was guilty and therefore deserving of punishment.

NYC Gentleman, 28, Arrested For Making Threats To Kill Police

Not This Guy, He's The Mayor and 53 years old

[From article]
A man was busted for phoning in threats to the NYPD, saying he was “dying to kill police,” cops said Friday.
Rayshawn Dixon, 28, was charged with making terrorist threats on Tuesday morning after sources said he called 911 shortly before 5 a.m.
“He told 911 operators he had a gun and if the police showed up, he was gonna use it,” the source said of Dixon’s arrest.
After telling authorities he was on 91st Street between Fifth and Columbus avenues, he called 911 again to ask why no cops had responded to the scene. Police pinged Dixon’s phone to a Domino’s Pizza on West 93rd Street, where he was cuffed and taken into custody.

Radical Proposal, Citizens Should Know Governmental Process

[From article]
When people from other parts of the world become US citizens, they have to pass a test that includes questions about how our system of government works. Why shouldn’t native-born Americans have to know the same?
Many Americans grew up with civics classes. But today, civics instruction has largely been abandoned — former Supreme Court Justice Sandra Day O’Connor calls this “the quiet crisis in education.”
[. . .]
The questions involve basic knowledge of how the US government works. For example, students would be asked to name America’s economic system or to identify one of the three branches of government.
This last is apparently more difficult than it might appear: A recent survey by the Annenberg Public Policy Center of the University of Pennsylvania found that 35 percent of the 1,416 adults questioned couldn’t do it. (You can try the test yourself at civicseducationinitiative.com/take-the-test/).

Professor Gruber, Social Scientist Masquerading As Scientist

[From article]
J. Robert Oppenheimer.
Oppenheimer, the great physicist who led the development of the atomic bomb during World War II, was an heir of Isaac Newton, who invented modern science. Newton showed that science could be used to manage nature. Ever since Newton, fools have believed that, by analogy, social science could be used to manage human nature. The fact that this has never worked has not diminished the faith of progressives in this idea
[. . .]
It was Oppenheimer that we saw on the Gruber tapes. He took some shots at the public, and opened the progressive kimono by admitting that Obamacare could never have been passed if its supporters had told the public the truth about it
[. . .]
Gruber must think he is an Oppenheimer -- that through his intellect and his academic training, he is in possession of a body of knowledge not available to the public at large and is capable of creating something new and spectacular.
[. . .]
All economics models fizzle when exposed to the subjectivity of value, but that does not diminish the reputations of those who built them. That is the difference between physics and economics. And the difference between the U.S. and the old Soviet Union. And the difference between success and failure in human affairs.
[. . .]
Why, then, does the market work? Because it discards failure. A capitalist economy generates almost nothing but failure. The wealth that we see around us, that supports us all, is those few things that worked. Everything that didn’t work, which was most of the things tried, has been discarded.
But a government bureaucracy rarely discards anything, rarely recognizes failures and rarely changes in light of it. That is why the societies they rule fail. The bureaucracy succeeds -- meaning perpetuates itself and its privileged position - and the society fails. But because the bureaucracy is so entrenched, is so secure in its positions and privileges, it is almost impossible to dislodge it except through military failure.
[. . .]
If we use a literary analogy and if Oppenheimer is the sorcerer, Gruber is the sorcerer’s apprentice. Creating chaos by a misapplication of the sorcerer’s powers.

Liberals Driven By Revenge

[From article]
The left’s entanglement with vengeance is easily understood -- it has nothing else. Their messiah has failed to lead them into Eden -- his policies, both domestic and foreign, have failed catastrophically one after another, leaving him nothing to show for six years as president and a nightmare gauntlet for the remainder of his term. His response -- and the response of the left as a whole -- amounts to little more than disjointed and incoherent actions. In the past six years, every last hope and dream of the left has been exposed -- there is nothing left.
So what does the left have but vengeance? It got them this far -- it will have to maintain them through the rest of Obama’s tenure, and beyond.
So it follows that we will see more of it over the coming two years.

Louis Farrakhan Advocated Vigilantism

[From article]
In late November, the student government at taxpayer-funded Morgan State University sponsored a conference on slavery reparations for black Americans.
Nation of Islam leader Louis Farrakhan was the keynote speaker.
[. . .]
Farrakhan’s keynote rant lasted over two hours. At one point, he held up what resembled a Quran at the public school, saying that both the central religious text of Islam and the Bible contain a “law of retaliation” and “a life for a life.”
“As long as they kill us and go to Wendy’s and have a burger and go to sleep, they’ll keep killing us,” the Nation of Islam leader fumed. “But when we die and they die, then soon we’re going to sit at a table and talk about it! We’re tired! We want some of this earth or we’ll tear this goddamn country up!”
[. . .]
Farrakhan’s Nov. 22 remarks occurred 28 days before Ismaaiyl Abdullah Brinsley brutally murdered two New York City police officers.
Brinsley’s abandoned YouTube channel contains video showing him heading to pray at Brooklyn’s Masjid At Taqwa, a mosque that has been linked to terrorist and anti-police activity. Before killing himself after he murdered the two officers, Brinsley — or Muhammad-Abdullah — also claimed that he worked at the Islamic Society of North America, a Muslim civil rights group that has also been named an unindicted co-conspirator of the Holy Land Foundation.
[. . .]
He also referred to white people as “crackers.

[From article]
The U.S. Centers for Disease Control and Prevention plans to hire a chief of laboratory safety, a new post that has taken on more urgency after a CDC scientist was possibly exposed to Ebola in a laboratory last week.
Creating a new high-level safety position was a key recommendation of a months-long internal investigation into the mishandling of anthrax and bird flu in CDC labs this past summer, according to an internal CDC memo obtained by Reuters.
Those incidents called into question safety practices at more than 1,000 laboratory and support facilities across the CDC's sprawling network of scientists.
[. . .]
In a congressional hearing last summer, angry U.S. lawmakers faulted a "dangerous pattern" of safety lapses at government laboratories handling deadly pathogens and called for an overhaul of controls at the CDC. Lawmakers were openly critical of Frieden but stopped short of calling for his resignation.

St. Louis Gentleman, 35, Charged With Making Terrorist Threats Against Police

Jason Valentine, 35

[From article]
A St. Louis man was charged Thursday with making threats against police and the St. Louis City Justice Center on Twitter.
Jason Valentine, 35, faces 10 felony counts of making a terrorist threat, the St. Louis Circuit Attorney's office said Thursday.
Valentine is being held on a $100,000 cash-only bail, according to the St. Louis Post-Dispatch, which did not specify which jail. It wasn't clear from online court records whether he has an attorney or when his first court appearance would be.
Valentine allegedly tweeted about "Kill a pig Night" throughout December, the probable cause statement said, and that he threatened an explosion at the Justice Center on Wednesday.
"St. Louis City Justice Center Mysteriously Exploded 12/31/2014," one tweet read, according to the statement. Another said, "New Years Eve Massacre Kill A Pig Night."

Maryland Police Stop Travelers Search For Legal Weapons

Police have been on the lookout for those bearing arms along the busy Interstate 95 corridor between Florida and Maine. Especially zealous police officers have stopped several motorists in Maryland. (Associated Press)

Notice that Maryland police did not stop and check the NYPD assassin who shot his girlfriend in Owings Mills, outside of Baltimore before traveling with pistol to NYC and killing two policemen.

[From article]
A year ago this New Year’s Eve, John Filippidis of Florida was driving south with his family on Interstate 95 when the Maryland Transportation Authority Police pulled over his black Ford Expedition and proceeded to raid it while his twins, wife and daughter looked on — separated in the back seats of different police cruisers.
The officers were searching for Mr. Filippidis‘ Florida-licensed, palm-size Kel-Tec .38 semi-automatic handgun, which he left at home locked in his safe. (Maryland does not recognize handgun permits issued by other states.)
[. . .]
The incident gained national attention. Mr. Filippidis went on multiple radio programs and described in detail how scared and outraged he and his family were. He wondered: How did the police know he was licensed for concealed carry, and what right did they have to search through his personal items on the side of the busy interstate filled with holiday travelers on that 10-degree day?

Mayor de Blasio met with union leaders Tuesday in an effort to mend his rift with police officers. We’re told the meeting was respectful.
The gesture will be meaningless unless the mayor publicly repudiates his dangerous calumny of the police.
Following the nonindictment of Officer Daniel Pantaleo for the lethal arrest of Eric Garner last July, de Blasio said that Garner’s death and the grand jury’s failure to indict sprung from “not years of racism . . . , or decades of racism, but centuries of racism.” The mayor worries “every night,” he said, about the “dangers” his biracial son, Dante, may face from “officers who are paid to protect him.

Netherlands Assisted Suicide Policy Increases Deaths

Andre Verhoeven, pictured at his first Communion, chose to end his life in January last year.

[From article]
Everyone in the Netherlands, where a right-to-die law was passed in 2002, seems to know of someone who has lost a loved one through a mercy killing.
As many as one in 33 people now use euthanasia to end their lives, and the number of cases rose from 1,923 in 2006 to nearly 5,000 in 2013. It is thought that in 2014 around 6,000 people could have chosen to die by this means.
You might be entitled to think that what people do in Holland is their business and nothing to do with us in Britain. But you could not be more wrong.
If campaigners have their way, the law will be changed here, too, to allow those who wish to end their life to do so at a time of their choosing. For opponents of euthanasia, this raises grave moral questions, as well as concerns that unscrupulous relatives might take advantage of elderly family members — whose estates they might covet — by encouraging them to end their lives.
[. . . ]
Though David Cameron has previously said he would oppose the legalising of assisted dying, if the issue is debated in Parliament, MPs will be given a free vote. But if it ever comes to that, they would do well to heed the warning of the senior Dutch ethicist who supported euthanasia and oversaw the law when it was introduced in Holland, but who has now advised the UK not to blindly follow suit.
Professor Theo Boer says that it would lead to widespread killing of the sick. ‘Don’t do it, Britain,’ he urged last year. ‘Once the genie is out of the bottle, it is not likely ever to go back in again.’
[. . .]
The Dutch ignored warnings that killings would become commonplace, yet now Dr Boer insists assisted suicide has ‘turned a last resort into a normal procedure’.
The legalisation of euthanasia has led to ‘Life End clinics’ being set up where Dutch people, if faced with a reluctant local doctor, are helped to commit suicide. Indeed, mobile teams of euthanasia doctors operate across the country who will kill people if their own GP refuses on ethical grounds.
[. . .]
In 2010, a citizens’ initiative called Out Of Free Will demanded that all Dutch people over 70 who feel tired of life should have the right to professional medical help in ending it all. Many thousands of people supported this idea.
But the euthanasia business does not just concern the elderly. It is now acceptable for a doctor to end the life of a baby, with the parents’ consent, if it is in pain or facing a life of hopeless suffering.
[. . .]
Even physically healthy people suffering from depression have been killed by doctors under Holland’s right-to-die laws.

CA Teacher's Union Supports Boycott of Israel

Resolution voted by 17 percent of the union members. New York's Mayor de Blasio was elected by 18 percent of New York City voters. One supporter of resolution stated that Israel is "the far more powerful country." There are about a 1.2 billion Muslims, in 49 Muslim dominated countries who want to destroy Israel a nation of about 8.2 million. Is this about the majority trying to destroy a minority, and preventing the minority from defending itself?

[From article]
A local branch of the United Auto Workers has become the first U.S. labor organization to join the international movement to boycott Israel, according to liberal groups.
UAW Local 2865, which represents teaching assistants at the University of California, voted to join it on Dec. 4, saying that Israel was engaging in "ongoing human rights violations" against the Palestinians.
A total of 66 percent of the members backed joining the movement, which supporters call "Boycott, Divestment and Sanctions against Israel." Only 2,168 members participated in the Dec. 4 vote, a small fraction of Local 2865's reported 13,000 members.
[. . .]
there is something about the way the Israeli government has acted about this all that has been an injustice, especially since they are the far more powerful country," Skylar Covich, a University of California-Santa Barbara graduate student and Local 2865 officer, told the liberal magazine In These Times.

Collective Punishment, Individual Rights and Terrorism

[From article]
Modern terrorism is in many ways just a revival of customary tribal retaliation or the application of ‘guilt by association’. The September 11 hijackers had no particular beef with the individuals in the World Trade Center. They were out to slaughter anyone in New York. None of the people in New York had to be individually guilty of anything. They were simply the most handy targets available to expiate the collective Western guilt for its real or imagined offenses against Islam.
The participants of the Jihad see it as a matter of “them” against “us”. Even though Western politicians are at pains to deny there is any “them”, “they” know who “they” are, despite the fact that “we” do not acknowledge who “we” are. ’Us’ versus ‘them’ pervades everything. When the Taliban could not strike at the Pakistan military directly it struck at the Pakistani Army Public School in Peshawar. The hand-wringing articles asking why innocent children were attacked miss the point completely. To the Taliban there are no “innocent children”. In a world of collective guilt there is naturally only collective punishment.
[. . .]
But the prohibition does not run the other way. There is no strong taboo among ISIS or al-Qaeda, for example, against punishing individual Jews for the collective guilt of Israeli existence. It is enough to kill a Jew, any Jew. It doesn’t matter who. Their model of punishment doesn’t require detailed information.
[. . .]
When hackers bring down companies or terrorists commit outrages and then obfuscate their identity, the Western moral code goes “tilt” because it cannot resolve the contradiction between having to punish somebody and not knowing the name of that someone to punish. Although we might guess the identities of the guilty parties — more or less — that’s not good enough to mete out only individual punishment. Without the names of individuals to punish the whole Western defense and legal mechanism grinds to a halt. Without information and the ability to punish individuals lawfare is nothing but a pitiful, helpless giant.
Terrorism uses obfuscation to defuse lawfare knowing that the West will not turn to the alternative form of warfare.
The danger of course is that a “pitiful, helpless giant” sooner or later loses the the legitimacy to govern. A sufficiently enraged public will demand something more than impotence. Collective punishment is what happens when individual justice is seen to fail.
[. . .]
In order to avoid the horrors of war The King’s Justice cannot afford to be seen as totally impotent. The best way to forestall private revenge is for the King to act against those who would disturb his realm, if not strictly according to the law then at least in the spirit of justice.
[. . .]
That is human nature. Every king worth his throne must defend his subjects or they will defend themselves.

New Year's Gratitude To Al Sharpton

In between Eric "White People Are Cowards" Holder and Al "The FBI Loves Me" Sharpton is Harvard University School of Law's former Dean and now Justice of the Supreme Court of the United States, Elena Kagan

[From article]
Thursday
Call it “Obama’s Paradox.” A young hopped-up black man in Ferguson robs a store and then tries to kill a policeman. The policeman defends himself and the young man dies. The media go crazy. Black agitators like the most loathsome being on the planet (just IMHO), Al Sharpton, appear on TV insulting the police and the entire white population of America (just IMHO). Black criminals riot. The President seemingly takes their side against the police.
[. . .]
the Democrats start looking like the fools who touched the third rail of American politics. That third rail is not Social Security any longer: It is race baiting and an unmerited, unwarranted attack on the most racially generous people in the world: white Americans. When the President and that creature de Blasio call them racist pigs and then mutter stupid platitudes when two of the police get killed as explicit race terrorism, the third rail has been not just touched but embraced.
[. . .]
Meanwhile, Happy New Year to Al Sharpton, best friend the Republican Party has had since Reagan.
[. . .]
Thank you, Mr. de Blasio and Mr. Sharpton, for clearing up the picture and letting us know which side we are on. In your own way, Mr. Sharpton, you are doing a great service.
