A bill aims to force the Obama administration to confirm within 60 days whether or not it gave a $1.7 billion “ransom payment” to Iran in January in exchange for 10 U.S. sailors captured in its waters.
The No Impunity for Iranian Aggression at Sea Act was filed jointly this week by two Republicans, Rep. Mike Pompeo of Kansas and Sen. John Cornyn of Texas, as a way of determining why $1.7 billion was released to Iran on Jan. 14. The payment was made one day after members of two U.S. Navy patrol boats were freed from captivity.

The legislation seeks to determine whether it was diplomacy or $1.7 billion in taxpayers’ cash that resolved the conflict. The White House maintains that payments to Iran were not linked to the sailors’ release.
“After the Iranians captured 10 U.S. Navy sailors, President Obama mentioned these brave men and women only in passing in his last State of the Union address,” Mr. Pompeo told the Free Beacon on Wednesday. “Since then, instead of investigating whether the Iranians violated the Geneva Convention and the right of innocent passage, the Obama administration has only offered apologies and then fired an American Naval officer. There has been no criticism of the Iranians, no public explanation of why these Americans were forced on their knees, hands on their heads, or why they were forced to confess — nothing from President Obama that would send a signal that this is an unacceptable way to treat American sailors.”

Senator Jewff Sessions has a bit of friendly advice for Speaker Paul Ryan and other GOP leaders who are hesitant about endorsing Donald Trump. Or maybe it's more of a warning.
Accept the fact that Trump is the Republican nominee or leave office.

Sessions is absolutely correct. You can't have it both ways - denouncing Trump and remaining a Republican. You should either resign and leave office or get behind the nominee chosen by Republican voters.
Those Republicans toying with a third party candidate are delusional. Why not just start a "Republicans for Clinton" club and be done with it? There is nothing principled about actively undermining the only alternative to a Hillary Clinton presidency and those who insist a third party candidate can actually win are insane.
A political party is a voluntary association - except when you choose to help lead it. Then it becomes incumbent on a leader to bow to the will of the voter when they choose a nominee. Basic democracy 101.
I expect several high profile Republicans to get that message eventually and either exit the party or support the nominee. Their hesitancy at this point is only helping Clinton.

Forty-eight hours after Donald Trump wrapped up the Republican nomination with a smashing victory in the Indiana primary, House Speaker Paul Ryan announced that he could not yet support Trump.
In millennial teen-talk, Ryan told CNN’s Jake Tapper, “I’m just not ready to do that at this point. I’m not there right now.”
“[T]he bulk of the burden of unifying the party” falls on Trump, added Ryan. Trump must unify “all wings of the Republican Party, and the conservative movement.” Trump must run a campaign that we can “be proud to support and proud to be a part of.”
Then, maybe, our Hamlet of the House can be persuaded to support the elected nominee of his own party.
Excuse me, but upon what meat has this our Caesar fed?
Ryan is a congressman from Wisconsin. He has never won a statewide election. As number two on Mitt Romney’s ticket, he got waxed by Joe Biden. He was compromise choice as speaker, only after John Boehner went into in his Brer Rabbit “Zip-a-dee-doo-dah” routine.
Who made Ryan the conscience of conservatism?
Who made Ryan keeper of the keys of true Republicanism?
Trump “inherits something … that’s very special to a lot of us,” said Ryan, “the party of Lincoln and Reagan and Jack Kemp.”
But Trump did not “inherit” anything. He won the nomination of the Republican Party in an epic battle in the most wide-open race ever, in which Trump generated the largest turnout and greatest vote totals in the history of Republican primaries.

The hubris here astonishes. A Republican establishment that has been beaten as badly as Carthage in the Third Punic War is now making demands on Scipio Africanus and the victorious Romans.

Someone should instruct Paul Ryan that losers do not make demands. They make requests. They make pleas.

Ryan is saying he is ambivalent over whether he will accept the verdict of the Cleveland convention — of which he is the chairman.
If Ryan holds to his refusal to accept the decision of the Republican majority in the primaries, he should be removed from that role. And if Ryan does not come out of Thursday’s meeting with the Donald, endorsing him, the presumptive nominee should turn to Paul Ryan, and, in two words, tell him, “You’re fired!”
Trump cannot allow the establishment to claw back in the cloakrooms of Capitol Hill what he won on a political battlefield. He cannot allow a discredited establishment to dictate the issues he may run on.
That would be a betrayal of the troops who brought Trump victory after victory in the primaries.

In 1960, Gov. Rockefeller refused to challenge Vice President Nixon in the primaries. When Nixon went to Rockefeller’s New York apartment to persuade him to join the ticket, Rocky refused, but demanded concessions in the platform, to which Nixon acceded.

Only the appearance of Sen. Barry Goldwater at the podium to tell conservatives to “grow up. We can take this party back,” halted a suicidal drive to take the nomination away from Nixon.

Hooted and rejected, Rocky went home and refused to endorse the nominee, who went down to a crushing defeat by LBJ.
Nixon, a party loyalist, campaigned across the country for Barry and his doomed party.
In 1968, Nixon got his reward, the nomination, with Goldwater’s support. And Govs. Rockefeller and George Romney, who had done the Paul Ryan thing, never came close.

The Republican Party might as well close up shop and merge with the Democrats. Not as a merger of equals, but more of a capitulation, a surrender, a sellout. There is no need for two parties in Washington DC as only one party is relevant in terms of advancing an agenda. The irony is that the agenda driving party is in the minority and despite losing badly in two midterm elections, the Democrats are still running Congress.

The deal suspends the debt limit until 2017, well after the presidential election, effectively taking unsustainable debt off the table as a campaign issue. Obama doubled the national debt? So what? Republicans are helping him. Don’t worry though, the spending cuts will take place in 2025, when most of the current Congress voting for this spending spree will either be retired or working as K Street lobbyists.

After voting in solid majorities in both the House and Senate, it’s business as usual, as if Nancy Pelosi and Harry Reid were still in charge. Perhaps they are.

Republican establishment types wonder why Donald Trump is leading in the polls. Trump is filling the leadership vacuum left by Ryan, Boehner, and McConnell. “We the people” see the GOP morphing into the DNC, despite promises to the contrary over the past four years. The smart set at Fox News can’t understand why “we the people” aren’t flocking to Jeb or Marco, and instead supporting racist/fascist Donald Trump or Ted Cruz.
These two may be the last and only hope of maintaining a two-party system. If the establishment manages to destroy Trump and Cruz, then it’s lights out for the Republican party. The base will stay home and the Founding Fathers will roll over in their graves. As for any future support for the GOP, my answer be a Mrs. Clinton refrain, “What difference does it make?” The Republican Party will be six feet under and we will have one-party rule in Washington, DC.

Speaker Paul Ryan (R-WI) evidently believes there is a constitutional right to emigrate to this country. In addition, he appears to believe that the First Amendment of religious freedom applies to everyone in the world and compels us to bring in anyone from every religion, irrespective of the problems endemic in some of its practitioners.
Take a look at this clip from Sean Hannity’s show last night and understand that we have no opposition party in Congress:

Ryan is essentially saying we have a First Amendment directive to A) bring in everyone to this country and B) not be selective based on religion.
Mr. Ryan, the entire founding of this country was predicated on fleeing a theocracy and settling a land where everyone can freely practice their religion as long as it doesn’t hurt anyone. Sharia law is the antithesis of that religious freedom because it foments a totalitarian mindset based on a theocracy.

Let’s be clear, everyone admitted into our country has the right to peacefully adhere to their religion. That includes Muslims, and as social conservatives, we certainly appreciate that a lot more than the secular Left. However, there is no affirmative right to emigrate here. And the notion that we will continue to bring in mass numbers of people who subscribe to the very mentality we are seeing in Europe that represents the antithesis of religious liberty and the epitome of compulsion that seeks to trespass on the rights of others is an anathema to our Founding values.
That we have the leader of House Republicans who doesn’t understand the basic tenets of popular sovereignty, jurisdictional sovereignty, the social contract, the First Amendment, religious liberty, and the realities of Islamic supremacism, should scare us all.

There was never any concern about improving the health care system. No outrage for the 90,000 persons killed each year due to medical negligence. Instead in the name of socialism insurance companies and the medical professionals got concessions from the politicians and excluded them from the misguided law. Both the U.S. Senate and House of Representatives certified that they had only 45 employees each in order to sign up for the District of Columbia’s Small Business Exchange. But 12,359 - or 86 percent of the exchange's enrollees - are members of Congress, congressional staff members, and their spouses and dependents, according to an appeal filed with the D.C. Court of Appeals by Judicial Watch.
The public interest law firm announced Monday that it is appealing the February dismissal of its lawsuit challenging congressional participation in the Obamacare exchange even though the D.C. Exchange Act limits enrollment to small companies with 50 or fewer employees.
“Congress obviously has far more than 50 employees,” Judicial Watch attorney Michael Bekesha pointed out in his opening brief. “It has thousands of employees.”



Congress enrolled in the small business exchange when its previous coverage under the Federal Employee Health Benefits plan was terminated by the Affordable Care Act (ACA) and congressional employees stood to lose thousands of dollars in “employer contributions” if they enrolled in the District’s individual exchange.
According to documents obtained by Judicial Watch through the Freedom of Information Act (FOIA), the U.S. Senate and the U.S. House of Representatives both certified that they “employ 50 or fewer full time equivalent employees.”
In October 2013, the Office of Personnel Management (OPM) issued a final rule that provides an “employer contribution” covering about three-quarters of the premiums of congressional employees enrolled in the small business exchange starting Jan. 1, 2014.
The OPM rule “allowed at least 12,359 congressional employees and their spouses and dependents to obtain health insurance through the Small Business Exchange…These 12,359 participants represent an astonishing 86% of the Small Business Exchange’s total enrollment,” the appeal states.
Judicial Watch filed the lawsuit last October on behalf of Kirby Vining, a D.C. resident since 1986, who objected to the expenditure of municipal funds to insure congressional employees in an exchange that was established specifically for small employers in the District.
“Congress authored the law [ACA], and is going to rather questionable lengths to avoid compliance with the law it drafted,” Vining said.

Judicial Watch president Tom Fitton said that allowing Congress to enroll in an exchange meant for small businesses is both “unlawful and unethical.”
“It is an abuse of District taxpayers to use D.C. funds to subsidize illegal health insurance for Congress,” Fitton said in a statement. “It is unlawful and unethical for District officials to use local dollars to participate in Congress’s Obamacare fraud.
“The highest court in the District of Columbia must affirm the right of District taxpayers to protect their monies from being misappropriated by corrupt District officials.”

Ancillary stories blossomed with lightning speed throughout the day, spreading across the front pages like fractal patterns blooming on a computer screen saver: the latest comments from Scaliese, reactions from other Republican leaders, calls for his doom from top Democrats, hard-hitting political analysis from veteran correspondents about whether the “embattled” Republican could possibly survive this devastating scandal…
Have you checked the big news websites today? Nothing. Yesterday’s top story is gone. CBS and NBC still have day-old posts about Scalise apologizing for delivering the brief 12-year-old address he barely remembers, but he’s vanished everywhere else.
There’s a good reason for that: it turns out the big story was, depending on how charitable you’re feeling, either dubiously sourced, a mistake, or an outright hoax. It fell to Betsy Woodruff at Slate to dig deeper and discover that on the fateful day, Scalise actually spoke to an innocent civic association, along with representatives from the local sheriff’s office and the American Red Cross. The unpleasant chaps from the Duke-linked “EURO” group had the room booked after the civic association was finished with it.
This is all based on the shifting recollections of a “longtime associate of David Duke” and neighbor of Steve Scalise named Kenny Knight, who is beginning to look like the unreliable single source for a too-good-to-check “scoop” the mainstream media’s “multiple layers of fact-checkers and editors” didn’t bother to investigate thoroughly before cudgeling an apologetic sound bite out of the Majority Whip.

But really, what was Scalise supposed to do? He opens his front door one morning, cup of coffee in hand, and sees a media bulldozer coming right at him.

Today, Ways and Means Committee Chairman Dave Camp (R-MI) issued the following statement regarding the Internal Revenue Service informing the Committee that they have lost Lois Lerner emails from a period of January 2009 – April 2011. Due to a supposed computer crash, the agency only has Lerner emails to and from other IRS employees during this time frame. The IRS claims it cannot produce emails written only to or from Lerner and outside agencies or groups, such as the White House, Treasury, Department of Justice, FEC, or Democrat offices.

Nothing new here. State local and U.S agencies have been destroying inconvenient records for many years.

Congress Does Immigration

At a hearing on immigration before the US House of Representatives in February 2013 Julian Castro, the Mayor of San Antonio Texas testified. San Antonio is run by a city manger, as Cambridge MA is run. The Mayor is a figure head like Obama. Great at being head of state, and making speeches. No skills at being head of government. He is a Harvard Law School Graduate, Hispanic, pretty, educated, intelligent, articulate, and self absorbed. Julian Castro doesn't speak Spanish fluently. He has a twin brother Joaquin, who was elected to Congress. Julian reminded me of Jarrett Barrios a former State Rep in Massachusetts who is now President and CEO of the Massachusetts Red Cross. They both use the term "folks" to refer to ordinary civilians showing their disdain and perception of their own superiority. The smartest man in the room uses that term signifying his moral superiority too.

Castro openly supports a "path to citizenship" for illegal aliens ahead of law abiding immigrants who wait in line and obey the laws. He wants to reward people who violated US laws and to punish law abiding taxpayer and citizens. He violates his oath of office. Testifying before the US House Committee on Immigration he mentioned his mother working as a maid. But news reports say his mother Rosie went to college and got a master's degree. She now is a student affairs administrator at a community college. Rosie also made a mark in politics. She ran unsuccessfully for City Council in 1971 and was a civil rights activist. His father is a retired teacher. He is the typical recipient of special consideration in hiring and admissions. Poor white men and women are discriminated against because they are white. Children of wealthy alleged minority groups get extra advantages over poor people. Moreover in many jurisdictions in the US whites are a minority yet are discriminated against and punished for their minority status. It is more instances of rewarding people who suffered no harm, and punishing people who did no wrong.

In any case his mother sacrificed working so that her son could have a better life. He exploits her labors claiming victimhood status because of her suffering. I knew a student at Columbia University who would seek sympathy explaining he was depressed because his parents were Holocaust survivors. He married a women who sought sympathy because she was "cursed with beauty." They deserve each other. Do we deserve the Castro brothers? Mayor Castro expects special privileges and consideration not because of his suffering, but because of the benefits he received from his mother's labors. Is this convoluted or what? Is he an Affirmative Action Mayor like some other politicians? Perhaps. San Antonio is a south Texas city with many Mexicans and Mexican Americans living there. In two recent books about election fraud, (Injustice by J. Christian Adams; and Who's Counting? by John Fund and Hans von Spakovsky) the authors explain how easy it is to get voter registration cards, and to vote even if one is not a citizen. How many voters are illegal voters? There is little will to find out, and less to prosecute violations of the voting fraud statutes. Obama's Department of Justice Civil Rights Division working under Eric "Fast and Furious" Holder refuses to enforce the voting rights act in a race neutral manner.

Mayor Castro wants to repeat what was done previously to resolve the illegal alien crises. Under Reagan they were legalized. Castro wants to do it again. And it will keep happening because politicians have no spines. Did legalizing them stop the flow of illegal aliens streaming into the US? Did it end the line crashing of law abiding immigrants who wait in line and obey the laws of the US? Castro says he thinks that is the best thing for the nation as a whole. Rewarding people who violate laws, and punishing law abiding taxpayers, voters, immigrants. I don't think so. All this does is generate more disrespect for laws and the Constitution. Obama leads the way in undermining the rule of law. Castro is a new comer to the disease which is promoted at Harvard Law School and Harvard University.

One son of a diplomat testified that the US should issue green cards to anyone who wants to work in the US. They can decide later, he said, if they want to become citizens.

This is one more indication that the nation is run by criminals. They ignore inconvenient laws and repeal others meant to stop abuses.
