Grocery Chain Salute To Military

Food City actually dates back to 1918 when a store was opened in Greeneville, Tennessee, but K-VA-T Food Stores’ official beginning took place in 1955 when founder Jack C. Smith--with his father, Curtis and uncle, Earl--opened the first store in Grundy, Virginia. Since that time, Food City has grown in leaps through the acquisition of several Piggly Wiggly operations in Southwest Virginia and Eastern Kentucky, along with Quality Foods/Food City, White Stores, Winn Dixie and BI-LO units in east Tennessee. The company has also grown steadily by expansion into new market areas while remodeling and replacing existing locations as needed to best serve their customers.

At Food City, we honor those people that serve and protect our country, and we know that without the men and women who watch out for us, we would not have any of the luxuries we do. We are the land of the free because of the brave and we salute you!

U.S. Troops Support Trump Over Clinton By Large Margin

[From article]
In a new survey of American military personnel, Donald Trump emerged as active-duty service members' preference to become the next U.S. president, topping Hillary Clinton by more than a 2-to-1 margin. However, in the latest Military Times election survey, more than one in five troops said they’d rather not vote in November if they have to choose between just those two candidates.
But given only those choices, 21 percent of the service members surveyed said they would abstain from voting.More than 54 percent of the 951 troops Military Times surveyed said they would vote for Trump, the presumed Republican presidential nominee, over Clinton, the Democratic front-runner. Only about 25 percent said they would vote for Clinton in that matchup.
[. . .]
Military personnel also demonstrated strong support for Trump in a Military Times reader survey conducted in March. Trump was the most popular candidate among the six presidential candidates remaining then, and the clear choice among Republican service members.
[. . .]
“The candidates left just don’t understand the military,” said Army Capt. Christian Pardo, who said he would not vote for any of the major party candidates left. “The military perspective on some of their policies are just so far out there.”
[. . .]
The sample is not a perfect representation of the military as a whole; it over-represents officers and noncommissioned officers, and under-represents junior enlisted personnel. However, it is representative of the more senior and career-oriented members of the force who run the military's day-to-day operations and carry out its policies.

North Carolina Gentleman Charged With Forcing Woman US Army Soldier Into Prostitution

Jibri Quandel Thomas

[From article]
A North Carolina man has been arrested on charges that he forced a 19-year-old female Fort Bragg soldier into prostitution.
Jibri Thomas is accused of exploiting the soldier from August until December while she lived in barracks on the Army base, The Fayetteville Observer reported Friday.
Thomas, 23, turned himself in to police Jan. 11. He was being held at the Cumberland County jail on $400,000 bail. He faces state charges of human trafficking and promoting prostitution, as well as federal charges of racketeering and transporting for prostitution.
[. . .]
Court documents cited by the newspaper allege Thomas recruited and transported the soldier with the intent of holding her in “involuntary servitude” for prostitution, and police reports accuse Thomas of pocketing a portion of the payments. Police have refused to give any details on the coercion.
Fort Bragg spokesman Tom McCollum said officials don’t know of any other such case at Fort Bragg, one of the nation’s largest military installations with roughly 56,000 troops. But he said Army officials are there to help others who may find themselves in the same situation.
Pete Twedell, director of the counter-human trafficking nonprofit 5 Sparrows, said he’s heard of several cases in the region involving soldier victims over the past four years.
“Human trafficking is a real and growing problem that affects all strata of our society, including Fort Bragg,” Twedell told the newspaper.

Schools Suspend Students For Wearing Relatives' Military Jackets, Images of Tribute to Fallen Soldiers

Lack of common sense among adults is frightening.

[From article]
The school dress code states that students cannot wear anything that promotes alcohol, drugs, tobacco or violence. Holmes’ shirt depicted a military rifle barrel first into the ground, with a helmet on top and boots on the bottom. It reads: “Standing for those who stood for us.”
School officials told Holmes the shirt was inappropriate because it contained a weapon, and asked him to instead wear a school shirt, but Holmes refused.
“They won’t let me wear a shirt to supports the people who keep us free,” he told Fox 12, “I’m not going to support them.”
“I’m proud of him,” Holmes’ father, Charles Holmes, said. “I would have done the same thing.”
School officials would not discuss the issue with the media.
Alan Holmes said he understands why school officials would be concerned about images of weapons in an era of school shootings, but his shirt clearly does not promote violence.
“This isn’t relating to violence. The barrel is pointed down – total gun safety,” he said.
News of Holmes’ suspension enraged a lot of folks online.
“The ‘image’ on this shirt shows (honor to) buried American soldiers, the weapon is used to hold the helmet when buried in the field,” Frank Martin posted to Facebook. “If that is inappropriate … then the school should haul down the American flag in front of it and return all … federal funding it receives.”
“I understand the paranoia going on with school administrators, but this is about as silly as the kid who made a gun out of a pointed finger and got tossed out too,” Pam McFarlin added.

Eleven-year-old twins Kaidence and Abigail were even born on an Air Force base.
So the new fall jackets they bought to wear to Aubrey Middle School shouldn’t be a surprise.
“The Air Force ones they picked out — we might’ve nudged them a little bit,” says Phil Rolen, their father.
But the girls didn’t expect the reaction they got from teachers once they stepped into their classrooms.
“She yelled at me and said that’s out of the dress code and that she would get me in trouble if I wore something out of dress code,” says Kaidence.
“It’s political correctness run amok,” says their father.
He is a disabled Iraq War veteran who immediately called the principal and was told the Air Force logo was fine, just too large for the district’s strict dress code.
“The district has a blanket policy doesn’t allow administrators to make commonsense exceptions to rules that I think most Texans would agree are absolutely superfluous,” says Rolen.
The school district told CBS 11 News in a statement that “Aubrey ISD has a student dress code to follow, just as our military personnel are expected to wear uniforms.”

US Soldiers Returned From Liberia, Held in Quaratine

Service members deployed in support of Operation United Assistance line up to go through customs Jan. 1, 2015, at an airport outside of Monrovia, Liberia, prior to boarding their flight back to the United States. Troops will go through 21 days of controlled monitoring at Joint Base Lewis-McChord, Wash.; Joint Base Eustis-Langley, Va.; Fort Hood, Texas; or Fort Bliss, Texas.

A group of 100 soldiers returning to the States from an Ebola-response mission in West Africa arrived at Joint Base Lewis-McChord, Wash., on Friday to begin a mandatory quarantine.
[. . .]
The group spent the past two months in Liberia improving roads so that Liberians and visiting aid workers can have better access to new Ebola treatment facilities, said Sgt. 1st Class Justin Puetz of JBLM’s 593rd Expeditionary Sustainment Command.
The soldiers departed Liberia on Jan. 1.
[. . .]
The quarantine program is separate from the monitoring of JBLM Air Force personnel who have flown short missions to West Africa. These airmen tend to spend less than a day on the ground and don’t interact with Ebola patients. They are asked to watch themselves for symptoms, but they’re not quarantined and can continue to work their military and civilian jobs.

Children of Ambushed US Soldier Sue Terrorist Released By Obama

[From article]
As I reported in my syndicated column 11 years ago, Speer died in Afghanistan during an ambush by al-Qaida operatives. The remorseless Islamic zealot who lobbed the fatal grenade that killed Speer in 2002: 15-year-old Omar Khadr.
[. . .]
The FBI called Khadr, who was detained at Gitmo in November 2002, "cold and callous." Terrorist videos showed the teen smiling as he rigged explosives in preparation for the fight. The thought of killing our soldiers brightened his day, he said. One of his leaders exulted on tape as they readied their bombs and grenades: "Allah willing, we will get a good number of Americans."
[. . .]
Tabitha Speer and Morris were doing what they could to uphold honor and fight for real justice for the fallen. They filed a civil suit against Canadian-born Khadr, who had pleaded guilty, guilty, guilty, guilty and guilty in 2010 to five war crimes including murder and attempted murder related to the ambush in Afghanistan.

Bergdahl, 28, is believed to have slipped away from his platoon’s small outpost in Afghanistan’s Paktika province on June 30, 2009, after growing disillusioned with the U.S. military’s war effort. He was captured shortly afterward by enemy forces and held captive in Pakistan by insurgents affiliated with the Taliban. At the time, an entire U.S. military division and thousands of Afghan soldiers and police officers devoted weeks to searching for him, and some soldiers resented risking their lives for someone they considered a deserter.
[. . .]
Defense Secretary Chuck Hagel, speaking to reporters Sunday in Bagram, Afghanistan, declined to talk about any possible action by the military against Bergdahl. A senior defense official indicated that punitive action was unlikely, no matter what the circumstances were. “Five years is enough,” he said.

The six men reportedly killed while searching for Bergdahl were identified as Staff Sgt. Clayton Bowen and Pfc. Morris Walker on Aug. 18, 2009; Staff Sgt. Kurt Curtiss on Aug. 26; 2nd Lt. Darryn Andrews and Pfc. Matthew Michael Martinek on Sept. 4; and Staff Sgt. Michael Murphrey on Sept. 5.
“He walked off,” said another comrade of Bergdahl’s, former Pfc. Jose Baggett.

Colonel David Hunt told Bill O’Reilly tonight that Bowe Bergdahl was a deserter.
“Bowe Bergdahl was a deserter. Bergdahl on June 20, 2009 crawled underneath a wire at his fire base with water, food, a change of clothes, a knife and a cell phone. He called his unit the day after he deserted to tell his unit he deserted… Bill, we lost 14 soldiers, killed, searching for a deserter. He left his unit in combat. It’s non-arguable… We don’t know yet if he joined the Taliban or not. But, there’s no question he deserted
