Updated: Canons Restored To Cambridge Common: City Can Defend Itself Again

[Updated July 1, 2016 4:57 PM ET]On or about June 30, 2016, the three Cambridge Common canons were restored to their rightful places. City residents rejoiced knowing they can defend themselves from attacks by known and unknown enemies.

What happened to the two (actually there were three) canons at the flagpole along Garden Street? The city council gun control nuts out of control again? How will law abiding local citizens protect themselves when the city is attacked? Taxpayer funded agencies show repeatedly they cannot and will not protect law abiding citizens from criminals and from terrorists. Put the canons back where they belong.

FIGHTING ISIS PLAYS INTO ISIS’ HANDS?
Is letting ISIS kill us our only hope of beating ISIS?
March 28, 2016
Daniel Greenfield

[From article about essay]
Because terrorism has no religion. Even when it’s shouting, “Allahu Akbar”.
***
Obama initially tried to defeat ISIS by ignoring it. This cunning approach allowed ISIS to seize large chunks of Iraq and Syria. He tried calling ISIS a JayVee team in line with his recent claim that, “We defeat them in part by saying you are not strong, you are weak”. Unimpressed, ISIS seized Mosul. It was still attached to the old-fashioned way of proving it was strong by actually winning land and wars.
Then Obama tried to defeat ISIS by arming the Islamist allies of Al Qaeda and now a lot more American weapons are in the hands of Islamic terrorists. Some of them are even in the hands of ISIS.
Europe and the United States decided to prove that we were not at war with Islam by taking in as many Muslims as we could. Instead of leading to less terrorism, taking in more Muslims led to more terrorism.
[. . .]
There’s a reason that the counterintuitive strategies for fighting Islamic terrorism by not fighting Islamic terrorism don’t work. They make no sense. They never did. Instead they all depend on convincing Muslims, from the local Imam to Jihadist organizations, to aid us instead of attack us by showing what nice people we are. Meanwhile they also insist that we can’t use the words “Islamic terrorism” because Muslims are ticking time bombs who will join Al Qaeda and ISIS the moment we associate terrorism with the I-word.

Sanctuary Cities Are Threat To Public Safety

[From article]
In the wake of the terror attacks in Belgium, news reports once again focused on how so-called “No Go Zones” in Europe create neighborhoods where communities develop that, although are geographically located within major cities, insulate themselves from their surroundings, fostering the mindset that cooperating with law enforcement is dangerous and even traitorous.
The residents eye law enforcement officers with great suspicion if not outright animosity. The situation is exacerbated because while they fear law enforcement, they may well also fear their neighbors who may take revenge against them for cooperating with law enforcement.
These neighborhoods become “cultural islands” that eschew the cultures and values of the cities and countries in which they grow -- a virtual malignancy that ultimately comes to threaten its host city and country because within this cocoon radical Islamists are shielded from law enforcement, find shelter and support and an ample supply of potential terror recruits.
These communities are inhabited by many Muslim refugees who cannot be effectively screened.
This makes assimilation by the residents of these isolated communities unlikely if not impossible and creates breeding grounds for crime and, in this era and under these circumstances- breeding grounds for terrorism.
[. . .]
Back when I was an INS agent, we had an expression- “Big cases- big problems; Little cases- little problems; No cases- no problems!” That phrase applies to all law enforcement officers.
When police or other law enforcement officers are put into a classic “no win” situation, their commonsense solution is to make their own survival and well-being their priority by minimizing their contacts with such enclaves and taking the fewest actions possible within those communities.
Not unlike the “No Go Zones” of European countries, these communities in the Unites States also tend to shield foreign nationals who may be fugitives from justice both inside the United States and in other countries. Terrorists and their supporters are able to go about their daily lives- undetected by law enforcement agencies.
Implementation of sanctuary policies in such cities greatly exacerbates the threats posed to national security and public safety- turning those cities into magnets that attract still more radicals and fugitives and terrorists who need to “fly under the radar.”
Any community that provides safe haven for illegal aliens willfully endangers the lives of it residents.
[. . .]
Incredibly, New York's Mayor Bill De Blasio, not content to simply continue the dangerous- indeed deadly sanctuary policies, has amped up the threats to New York and New Yorkers- and indeed the United States, by issuing “Municipal Identity Documents” to illegal aliens.
[. . .]

“The 19 hijackers used 364 aliases, including different spellings of their names and noms de guerre.4 As they passed through various countries, their names were recorded by governments and their intelligence and border authorities.”
Providing official identity documents to illegal aliens, whose true identities are unknown and unknowable, enables them to create new false identities and a level of credibility they are easily able to exploit as an embedding tactic. Criminals and terrorists use changes in identity the way that chameleons use changes in coloration- as camouflage that enables them to hide in plain sight, often among their intended victims.
Donald Trump has recommended that the United States, at least temporarily, bar Muslims from entering the United States.
In my judgement this solution is not realistic. While the President can order a ban on the admission of all foreign Muslims, it would be impossible to implement. Terrorists and others who were determined to enter the United States could simply lie about their religious beliefs. Aliens who enter the United States without inspection are not screened. We already have large numbers of Muslims living in the United States.
The First Amendment provides for freedom of religion and understandably, many Americans are repulsed at the thought of making religious distinctions where the admission of aliens is concerned.
A far better solution would be to beef up the enforcement of our immigration laws from within the interior of the United States and focus a major component of the enforcement effort on seeking to locate and apprehend illegal aliens, irrespective of religion, from countries associated with terrorism.

Florida Catholic School Hears Muslim Propaganda Promoting Discrimination As Higher Priority Than Terrorism and Public Safety

Creepingsharia.com published a report on March 16, 2016 titled Florida: Terror-linked, ex-CAIR Thug Addresses Catholic School Kids. The article reports in part:

Source: Family Security Matters
by PAMELA GELLER

The infamous founder and past executive director of the Tampa chapter of the Council on American-Islamic Relations (CAIR), Ahmed Bedier, was given unfettered access to St Petersburg Catholic High School children to spew and spread his vile hate. If a religious school not only sanctions this deceptive propaganda, but gifts these terror-tied CAIR operatives their own school assembly, what shot do our kids have?

ISLAMIZATION OF AMERICA

Despite the continuing Muslim genocide of Christians in the Middle East and Africa, American Catholic leaders continue not only to turn a blind eye to jihad terror and the persecution of their fellow Christians, but are actively aiding and abetting the forces that are persecuting them. Last month, the entire student body of St. Petersburg Catholic High School in St. Petersburg, Florida, was called together to hear a deceptive presentation on “Islamophobia” from the notorious Ahmed Bedier, who openly supports the jihad terror group Hezbollah and has worked for the Hamas-linked Council on American-Islamic Relations (CAIR).

Bedier’s address was ostensibly about fighting the supposedly rising level of “Islamophobia”; he also offered what he presented as a primer on Islamic culture. In it, he blamed the U.S. for ISIS, claiming that the bloodthirsty caliphate arose because we bombed innocent civilians in Iraq. He also called out Fox News, Rush Limbaugh, white people, Jews, Ted Cruz, Donald Trump and Ben Carson – all as examples of Muslim-haters – while proselytizing for Islam. Click here to read full report at CreepingSharia.com

Ahmed Bedier:
• Is the leader of the national Islamist organization called United Voices for America. One of United Voices of America’s top issues is to oppose federal legislation that would prohibit American courts from recognizing Sharia law.
• Was the founder and director of the Tampa office of the Council on Islamic-American Relations.
• As CAIR Tampa director, Ahmed Bedier defended Sami Al Arian, who was indicted and plead to federal charges of raising support for a Palestinian terrorist organization. The Tampa Tribune reported in part on April 15, 2006: “Ahmed Bedier, Tampa spokesman for the Council on American Islamic Relations, said Moffitt was wrong about the Al-Arian plea. Al-Arian did not agree to admit to any charges associated with terrorism, Bedier said. He stayed true to his convictions - he stayed true he wasn't going to plead to those issues," Bedier said. "There is no conspiracy to support terrorism. Bedier said he could not reveal what charge Al-Arian agreed to, and he refused to reveal the source of his information. Bedier convened a 7 p.m. news conference, saying he hoped to have Al-Arian's family there. They did not appear.
• As CAIR Tampa director, Ahmed Bedier spoke on behalf of Youssef Megahed one of two University of South Florida students who were arrested for allegedly carrying pipe bombs near the Goose Creek, S.C a naval base and Megahed was arrested later for deportation. The Tampa Tribune reported in part on September 1, 2007 "We have faith in the American judicial system," said Ahmed Bedier, executive director of the Tampa chapter of the Council on American Islamic Relations. "So far we've only heard and read about vague language describing an explosive device, but no actual evidence. Until that's displayed it's going to be unclear what's going on."
• As CAIR Tampa director, Ahmed Bedier’s lobbying efforts resulted in the Hillsborough County School Board removing Yom Kippur and Good Friday from the school calendar even after nearly sixty percent of the students (supported by parents) protested by staying home from school on subsequent Good Fridays. The school district reversed their policy after more than half of the student body showed up for school on Good Friday.
Ahmed Bedier made reckless and erroneous statements and disparaged numerous people and institutions who have legitimate concerns about the Islamist political and cultural agenda in America. It was irresponsible to allow his pro-Islamist propaganda to be presented to students.
It is truly disappointing that the St. Petersburg Catholic High School allowed Ahmed Bedier with his Islamist background and agenda to proclaim the bogus evils of Islamophobia to impressionable students.

Tips For Civilians To Protect Community From Terrorism

If you see or notice any of the below or additional suspicious activities, please contact the local authorities immediately. Remember, you can do so anonymously.

Here are a few more national security tips on what to look for, as well as a few important reminders:
  • Unusual clothing in a particular setting.
    • If you live in a warm state such as Florida or Arizona and see someone dressed in an overcoat or unusual clothing for the season and the place, they may be hiding or packing explosives or a suicide belt. Report anyone appearing unusual to the authorities immediately.
  • Backpacks, bags, and luggage left unattended. Be aware if a person strategically places and leaves a bag.
  • Unusual activity in or around your neighborhood. (You know best!)
    • The signs you heard about in the news in connection with the San Bernardino attack is the perfect example.
  • Take note of a person taking pictures or recording of a building’s side doors, loading dock, cameras and back alley.
    • This includes any sporting event, concert, stadium or arena.
  • Always trust your instincts
    • We cannot emphasize this point enough. Better safe than sorry. If you strongly feel uncomfortable about a situation or a person, please do not hesitate to call the authorities and bring it to their attention. This is critical.
  • You can send information to authorities anonymously.
If you do see suspicious behavior, do not confront the individuals involved.
Take note of the details and remember “Salute”:

S – Size (Jot down the number of people, gender, ages, and physical descriptions)
A – Activity (Describe exactly what they are doing)
L – Location (Provide exact location)
U – Uniform (Describe what they are wearing, including shoes)
T – Time (Provide date, time, and duration of activity)
E – Equipment (Describe vehicle, make, color etc., license plate, camera, guns, etc)

Suspicious activity is often recalled after an event. We must train ourselves to be on the lookout for things that are out of the ordinary and arouse suspicions.

Staying alert is NOT about becoming paranoid. Staying alert is being aware of one’s surroundings. Be alert to indications of possible trouble.

White House Fails To Protect US Civilians From Terrorism

The primary purpose of the federal governments was to provide for the common defense. Instead it collects taxes to make education policy, to force misguided standards on use of minerals and land, and many other activities outsides of the purview of the US Constitution which mandates those are matters for the states. Yet it fails to provide safety for civilians.

[From article]
Every single error made on the federal level concerning terror since the first inauguration of Barack Obama came to a head, from encouraging Muslim immigration to enabling terrorists to enter the country to crippling security investigations in the name of PC.
The federal government has unilaterally broken a basic element of the social contract -- that the citizen will give up private use of violence and support the government in exchange for protection.
[. . .]
Both the military and police have given up any pretense of attempting to control Islamic terrorism. Homeland Defense was founded to create a new basis for a public employee’s union. It fulfills that role admirably. It does nothing else.
[. . .]

Obama refuses to defend Americans while at the same time adding more killers to the brew.
[. . .]
It explains why the borders have not been closed, why Jihadi mosques are still in operation, why Moslem Brotherhood operatives remain active within the government itself. The Muslims are the New Proletariat, the left’s ideological pets. The PC template has been shifted from blacks and placed right over the Muslim Jihadis, because they are Muslim Jihadis.
[. . .]
We can take this as whimpering products of postmodernism, curled into fetal balls as we descend in freefall, so many Woody Allens whining for somebody to do something as we await the final bullet. Or we can act as Americans always acted when government has let them down. We can refuse to be victims.
How do we respond to the Muslim threat? With knowledge and action.

Texas Trooper Arrested For Offering Speeding Woman Driver $300 To Have Sex With Him

Texas Department of Public Safety trooper Christopher Champion, pictured, has been fired.

[From article]
A Texas state trooper has been fired and arrested after he allegedly tried to make a woman have sex with him after pulling her over during a traffic stop.
Texas Department of Public Safety trooper Christopher Champion, 31, was arrested and booked into the Bexar County jail on charges of prostitution and official oppression Monday night, KSAT reported.
The incident allegedly happened September 17 when a 20-year-old woman filed a complaint claiming that Champion tried to pay her for sex after stopping her for speeding somewhere along northbound Interstate 35.
According to the arrest warrant affidavit, the woman said that Champion made her get out of the car and began to have a conversation with her.
KSAT reported that at one point, Champion told her to drive to the parking lot of a nearby Rudy's Country Store and Bar-B-Q restaurant and that once in the parking lot, he offered to first pay her $100 for sex.
He then increased the amount to $300 after she refused.
The woman told investigators that he took her cell phone and sent himself a text message so that he would have her telephone number, the affidavit stated.

Under the guidance of investigators, the woman began communicating with Champion and led the trooper to believe that she was agreeing to have sex with him.
The conversation via text message and over the phone was recorded by authorities.
[. . .]
During their communications, Champion also sent the woman a number of pictures of himself, including one in which he's wearing his uniform, KSAT reported.
Champion, who worked for DPS since 2008, was fired Tuesday.
According to jail records, he was released from the Bexar County Jail on bond around 5am.
Official oppression is a Class A misdemeanor and prostitution is a Class B misdemeanor.

Homeland Security Secretary Prioritizes Fear Of CAIR Over Safety Of Americans

[From article]
Fearing a civil liberties backlash and "bad public relations" for the Obama administration, Homeland Security Secretary Jeh Johnson refused in early 2014 to end the secret U.S. policy that prohibited immigration officials from reviewing the social media messages of all foreign citizens applying for U.S. visas, according to a former senior department official.
"During that time period immigration officials were not allowed to use or review social media as part of the screening process," John Cohen, a former acting under-secretary at DHS for intelligence and analysis. Cohen is now a national security consultant for ABC News.
[. . .]
Jeh Johnson, in other words, put the safety of Americans below fear of criticism from CAIR and the ACLU. As a result, a slaughter in San Bernardino took place at the hands of a jihadi bride let into the country thanks to Jeh Johnson.
And by the way, what is it about Johnson’s career as a lawyer (first black partner at white-shoe NY law firm Paul, Weiss, Rifkind, Wharton & Garrison LLP, where he handled large commercial litigation) that qualified him as protector of our national security?

Trump's Call For Ban On Muslim Immigration Gets Sharp Reactions

[From article]
Nearly all Republicans, [are angry] over Donald Trump’s proposal to prevent Muslims from entering the United States.
[. . .]
One thing is certain: the wisdom of welcoming hundreds of thousands of Muslims as refugees and immigrants is on the table. Whether or not you believe the poll Trump cited, it is certain that some percentage of Muslims sympathize with ISIS, some want sharia law in the United States, and many hold deeply anti-Semitic views, as the Quran instructs them.
[. . .]
And I think it is a legitimate question if we should be adding large numbers of Muslims to our population, considering that it is a certainty that some percentage will hold views anathema to our civic values, and a smaller percentage will act violently in support of jihad. The Quran and Hadith are indisputably political as well as religious documents, and their politics are incompatible with the U.S. Constitution. And unlike other religions that have violence in their scriptures, Islam alone is on a violent quest for world domination.

Gov. Baker: Trump’s Call To Bar Muslims From US ‘Ridiculous’
December 8, 2015 12:04 AM
CBS News Boston MA

Besides Trump Other Candidates Make No Sense On Protecting Americans

[From article]
Trump is a runaway hit with Americans for the simple reason that he’s the only candidate saying anything Americans care about.
After the San Bernardino terrorist attack, committed by Muslim immigrants — which followed the 1993 World Trade Center terrorist attack committed by Muslim immigrants; the 9/11 terrorist attacks committed by Muslim immigrants; the Fort Hood terrorist attack committed by a Muslim immigrant; the Boston Marathon terrorist attack committed by Muslim immigrants, and on and on — Trump suggested a temporary pause on Muslim immigration.
[. . .]
Why are Republicans talking about starting a war in Syria to stop Muslim immigrants from killing Americans in America? Is it our job to straighten out Syria? Can’t our government just stop bringing the terrorists here? If Rubio thinks he knows how to govern Syria, he’s free to run for president there. (Except he’d have to stop talking about his dad the bartender because Muslims don’t drink.)
[. . .]

As we know from Jim Comey, the director of the FBI: Syed Farouk and Tashfeen Malik were planning a terrorist attack against Americans before ISIS existed.
[. . .]
Good grief! This GOP machismo on ISIS has resulted in Obama actually making sense.
Here’s an idea: We let backward, poverty-stricken, misogynistic, clitorectomy-performing Third Worlders scratch out a living in theirmedieval hellholes, and just keep them out of our country. Also known as: the Trump Plan.
[. . .]
Only Trump seems to care. Asked about dictators running the Middle East, Trump said:
“In my opinion, we’ve spent $4 trillion trying to topple various people that frankly, if they were there and if we could’ve spent that $4 trillion in the United States to fix our roads, our bridges, and all of the other problems; our airports and all of the other problems we’ve had, we would’ve been a lot better off. I can tell you that right now …”

Israel Fails To Protect Its Citizens From Palestinian Terrorists

Muslim Cleric Teaches Muslim Youth How To Kill Jews

[From article]
The first obligation of government is to protect its citizens. The U.S. Constitution adds some pretty important duties to that one. But public safety is a sine qua non for all the others.
It is therefore strange indeed to see Israel's elected government shying away from its most important job.
Like Switzerland, most competent adults in Israel are carefully trained in the disciplined use of arms. Disciplined, as in driver training and traffic enforcement. But Israel inherits its legal code from the British Mandate and the Ottoman Empire. It has no strong legal tradition of individuals being trusted to arm themselves for self-defense.
This is objectively looney-tunes, of course.
[. . .]
Islam is a war theology, like Bushido Japan. War-making cultures are a dime a dozen in human history, as the anthropologist Napoleon Chagnon has finally proved. Humans make war. They always have, and the only way to reduce ideological warfare is to tell the truth. ISIS is a classical Muslim war cult, just like the mullahs on the other side of the Gulf.
Sun Tzu wrote, "It is said that if you know your enemies and know yourself, you will not be imperiled in a hundred battles[.]"
[. . .]
The knife intifada in Jerusalem has a dreadfully demoralizing effect on people, just like inner-city violence in Chicago. It makes adults feel helpless and hopeless, and that traumatizes their children, too. You can't raise healthy kids in a world of fear and intimidation.
[. . .]
As always, the world media are sunk in mendacity, keeping things going as dysfunctionally as possible. Who benefits from this neurotic state of affairs? The enemy does, of course.
[. . .]
Obama was wondering out loud the other day why conservatives regard him as dangerous. Obama is in fact the most dangerous president in American history. He never learns from his own failures.
[. . .]
When the higher intellects of the New York Times looks at places like Israel – and very soon, all of Europe – they always blame the victim.

Updated: New Campus Anti Rape Policies Not Working

“The cause is good”, she argued. "But it has got to the point of ridiculousness. Verbal consent, every step of the way?”
Hume was equally baffled by the concept of the bill and concurred: “It suggests that the people who are drawing up these now plans for how consent is given have never had any sex!"
Instead, Hume advocated simply keeping male and female students away from each other, because “boys will be boys, guys are pretty lusty, and you needed to be careful when you got them around young women”.
[. . .]
"And there’s a presumption now in these campuses, thanks to the Obama administration, of guilt. There’s a presumption of non-consent.
"And if you are a young man who gets accused, it’s your burden to go in there and prove consent, and we’re getting to the point where you have to have a contract. And if you don’t, you’re gonna be presumed a rapist.”

The New York law's victim's bill of rights guarantees students the right to report any incident to campus police or local law enforcement. The law also creates a uniform reporting system to ensure each campus accurately reports cases of sexual violence to the state. Finally, it includes a provision giving students who report sexual violence immunity from any student disciplinary actions relating to alcohol or drugs.

The Examiner goes on to describe an encounter where both parties were drunk and witnesses say the woman initiated sexual contact. But because the woman made the accusation first, the man was truly stuck. He tried to file a counter-claim of the woman not getting consent, but it was dismissed because he had already been accused!
There is no more "he said, she said." There is only "she said it, so it's true." How many young men's lives are going to be ruined by vengeful or mentally unstable women who accuse them of something they didn't do while making it impossible for them to defend themselves?

Massachusetts Minister Charged With Encouraging Teen to Sell Drugs, Then Shooting Him. No One Was Watching This Guy.

One more high profile unwatched suspect. No one was watching this gentleman. No police as reported herein, no crime families, no FBI informants, no Communists, no Harvard University campus police, building superintendents, graduate students in psychology at Harvard Medical School. But all of the above mentioned organizations took turns harassing, provoking, ridiculing, humiliating, insulting and keeping a 70-year-old white man under surveillance for 45 years in mostly three states. Relentless character assassination was added. During February-March 2015, FBI informant associates from the California Syndicate and the Midwestern Outfit yielded to local criminal associates when FBI criminals were unable to provoke the elder civilian. Shows how misguided public safety priorities are in Massachusetts, in Cambridge and at Harvard University.

After I complained to the Massachusetts Attorney General and the Middlesex District Attorney, the FBI thugs left the premises. They were immediately replaced by homosexual police criminals from Plymouth County Massachusetts, who continued all of the above-mentioned abuses.

More than two years of police records released to the Herald yesterday appear to support Police Commissioner William B. Evans’ claim that the Rev. Shaun O. Harrison was not on his department’s radar before last week’s arrest on charges that he tried to murder a teenager who was selling pot for him.
[. . .]
Police spokesman Lt.
Michael McCarthy repeated Evans’ claim that police knew nothing, saying “there was no indication” of criminal activity by Harrison, who last week was fired as “dean of academy” — a parent-student coordinator’s job — at English High School in Jamaica Plain.
“The only time we became aware of anything was after the shooting, when we talked to the victim, nor did any of the neighbors let us know what was going on or call the cops about drugs on the street. We had no knowledge of anything going on with him,” McCarthy said. “We’re extremely shocked and disappointed, if the allegations are proven to be true.

New York City Council A Situation Comedy

Among my ideas was to write a television comedy called City Council using video tape from councils throughout the country. But I could never have made up some of the real actions taken by New York City Councilors described in this article. Cambridge City Council is sane compared to this.

[From article]
de Blasio came into office with an advantage that his recent predecessors lacked: overwhelming support in the city council, whose members, as one lawmaker put it, are like a “cult of true believers,” eager to follow their leader. In New York, the mayor makes most of the news, and it’s easy to ignore the city council. That would be a mistake. Not only did de Blasio himself come from its ranks, where he spent years building alliances; New York’s next mayor may well be a sitting council member today—and, if so, judging by the views of some of the council’s leading figures, the de Blasio years might be ironically remembered for how moderate they were.
[. . .]
Insiders had considered Mark-Viverito a long shot for the speakership. She grew up in privilege in Puerto Rico, where her ophthalmologist father, who owned his own dual-engine Cessna, founded a hospital that, after his death, sold for $165 million. She and her family own properties in San Juan and along the coast that provide them with a stream of rental income. Under the auspices of a program aimed at middle-income, first-time home buyers, Mark-Viverito purchased her current home, a three-family structure on East 111th Street, for $350,000, and paid off the mortgage after only ten years. The property is now estimated to be worth $1.2 million. Despite appearing at Zuccotti Park during the Occupy Wall Street sit-in and announcing on camera that she belongs to the “99 percent,” Mark-Viverito has the real-estate portfolio of a 1 percenter.
[. . .]
Melissa Mark added her mother’s maiden name, Viverito, after graduating from Columbia University.
[. . .]
Including Mark-Viverito as speaker, the caucus, with 18 seats, now makes up more than one-third of the 51-member council and dominates the council politically, holding all leadership posts and most key committee chairmanships. Its members are unremittingly left-wing.
[. . .]
As a council member, Chin lifted the protective-landmark designation on an early-nineteenth-century wood-framed building on the Bowery, one of the few such historic structures remaining in Manhattan. The 1817 building, owned by a Chinese-American bank that contributed generously to Chin’s campaign, was quickly torn down to allow for the development of a generic, eight-story brick-and-glass structure. Chin defended the erasure of a remnant of New York’s Federal-era past, saying that the new building would offer below-market “affordable office space.” “Affordability” in reference to housing is a legal term pertaining to residents’ income. There is no equivalent term for commercial real estate, so Chin concocted the phrase to give cover to her donors.
[. . .]
Rather than condemn the violence, [Letitia] James instead chided the restaurant’s owners for “irresponsible” management in holding their promotion on the eve of a school holiday, when the teenagers would be more likely to go out for the evening. “I want this Tuesday restaurant promotion stopped, or the lease of this business revoked,” she demanded.
[. . .]
Council Member Jumaane Williams of Brooklyn [. . .] sponsored a resolution calling on police to “stop arresting people for committing minor infractions in the transit system.” According to the text of the resolution, being arrested for littering, gambling, or urinating in the subway can be “very disruptive” to the arrestee. Moreover, being arrested is “overly punitive and unfair” and can even cause “financial hardship.” Clearly, Williams’s policy priorities don’t include protecting subway riders from disorderly or violent behavior.
The only reason that Council Member Inez Barron isn’t a Progressive Caucus member is because the group’s politics aren’t radical enough. In January 2014, Barron, a former state assembly member, assumed the seat formerly held by her husband, Charles Barron; he, in turn, will succeed her in Albany this year. A former Black Panther, Charles Barron was known during his time on the council for never standing during the Pledge of Allegiance, for inviting Zimbabwean dictator Robert Mugabe to City Hall, and for saying that he wanted to go up to the next white person and “slap him, just for my mental health.”
[. . .]
Few council members have much experience of professional life outside politics. Many worked as staffers to council members before becoming council members themselves. One, Progressive Caucus member Richie Torres of the Bronx, said in an interview with The Nation, “Do I look like a politician to you? I’m a 25-year-old college dropout who grew up in public housing. I’m gay. I’m Afro-Latino. I hardly have the characteristics people associate with a politician, but here I am.” Council Member Torres had previously served on the staff of a council member from an adjoining district. He was essentially selected by the local machine to fill a vacancy. So when he asks, “Do I look like a politician to you?” the answer, more or less, is yes.
[. . .]
The quirky personalities and often zany ideas of New York’s progressive council members can make for amusing reading, but the job of governing a city of 8 million people is no joke.
[. . .]
In short, the city faces serious challenges and needs serious leaders to meet them. Based on the quality of its political bench, New York could be in real trouble soon.

Harvard Campus Police, Private, Abusive and Unaccountable; Business As Usual At The MA Executive Office of Public Safety

Charlie Baker, Governor of Massachusetts

2015 brings a new Governor for Massachusetts. But the bureaucracy lags behind and acts the same as under the previous Governor. Over the past 25 years a group of Harvard University campus police and their employees conducted a brutal campaign of surveillance and harassment. It continues in 2015. Never having had any positive response to previous complaints, I stopped complaining to city and state officials. It was a waste of my time, something encouraged by police over 44 years, wasting my time, that is. They all say, "He's crazy." and ignore my complaints. Legally these depraved police employees are abusing a disabled person, with police protection. It is how the Harvard University campus police thugs and their employees are able to cover up their abuses. "He's crazy." covers it all. Bullies love to prey on vulnerable citizens, especially white male citizens, who are not homosexual.

I live on property owned and operated by the President and Fellows of Harvard College. When I experienced criminal acts, my calls to the Cambridge police dispatchers were diverted to Harvard University campus police, who did not respond to my calls. When I was able to get through to Cambridge police they did respond and took my complaint. But the Harvard University campus police (HUPD) did not stop their abuses.

An undergraduate instructor of mine, who now teaches at Harvard Law School told me many years ago if I had any trouble I should call the Harvard University General Counsel. When I experienced the first act of police abuse I called to the Office of General Counsel. There was no positive response, no response at all. No reduction in the harassment by HUPD.

The enabling Mass General Law statute reveals that HUPD are special state police and have jurisdiction to enforce state laws on the property of Harvard University. I noticed how they act outside of their jurisdiction regularly. When I gathered evidence of health hazards over which the city of Cambridge has jurisdiction and not the HUPD, three HUPD officers stopped me and questioned me. When I explained to them that they were negligently trained they became sarcastic, asking me if I was going to train them. I've written many times about this problem and spoke to the city government and to the police in the city of Cambridge. It is a police problem which the city police enable by ceding jurisdiction to HUPD even when they do not have it.

It is unlikely the Massachusetts Executive Office of Public Safety will change the way that HUPD operates. But I want them to stop harassing me. I am not charged with any crime. I have no notice of any allegations against me. But the HUPD freely harasses me and follows me. The last instance was on Thursday January 29, 2015.

At about 3:30 PM I called to the Massachusetts Executive Office of Public Safety MEOPS. The receptionist referred me to Lisa Morales, said to be an executive assistant. Her telephone greeting names Andrea Cabral as the Secretary of Public Safety. According to the state web pages Thomas G. Gatzunis, is the current Commissioner. I do not know the difference between the Secretary and the Commissioner. But on my last visit to the MEOPS it was explained to me that the MEOPS does not have jurisdiction over local police. But It does have jurisdiction over state police and the special (campus) state police.

Thomas G. Gatzunis, Massachusetts Commissioner of Public Safety

Nonetheless Lisa Morales left a voice mail message telling me that the campus police are under the State office of Education. I left a voice mail for her that the state makes the HUPD special state police and thus they are under the MEOPS. The next day she called again stating in a voice mail that she may have someone to refer me to. Aha! The bureaucratic plot thickens.

I know a lot about giving citizens the run around. I've experienced it over many years in large institutions and government agencies.Often it is not intentional, but incompetence. I do not know what it is in this case. I stopped interacting with government as a result of their disinterest in addressing abuses by police. I do not participate in the lawless protests on state highways. I am not a supporter of the "black lives matter" movement which slanders police. But I do object to the abuses of police power for personal and for political purposes which is what the HUPD does regarding me.

I read one book about bureaucracy that explained that the best time to obtain redress and to seek changes is when there is a new administration, e.g., a new governor and his new team. Thus I will send this as a letter to the new commissioner. If there is a response, I will update this post at that time.

Police Deserve Respect and Support of Citizens

[From article]
On September 12th, 2001 the first responders, both police and firemen, were heralded as heroes with numerous outpourings of praise. Then Cardinal Edward M. Egan, who was archbishop on the day of the attacks, gave a heartwarming benediction, “On 9/11, and on the days that followed, I became a member of the congregation... No one preached more powerfully than New York’s Finest. The Police Department of the City of New York, from the chief down to the rank-in-file, their sermon was about total sacrifice for others.” So what happened between then and now?
All interviewed believe that Americans have short memories. People forget that twenty-three NYPD officers died on 9/11 and approximately fifty died from injury and illnesses incurred during the rescue and aftermath.
[. . .]
By far the majority of police officers across the nation are true heroes. Every day they put their lives on the line for people regardless of their race, religion, or sex. It appears they are underappreciated and underpaid for what they do. All Americans need to speak out in support of the police.

Cambridge, MA Police Employ Renaissance Man; Safety Tips

Cambridge Police Spokesman Jeremy Warnick wears many hats. About this incident he reveals, "The assailant will likely receive a minimum charge of Assault and Battery and Unarmed Robbery if caught," Previously Mr. Warnick made psychiatric diagnoses (psychiatrist), determination of cause of death (medical examiner), and now he is deciding what crimes to charge the suspect. Isn't that the job of police officers?

Austin, Texas Policeman Stops Gunman

Austin Police Sgt. Adam Johnson fired one shot from his Smith & Wesson M&P .40 pistol and hit Larry McQuilliams square in the chest last month, stopping the gunman's downtown shooting rampage. (YouTube)

[From article]
Holding the reins of two horses with one hand, Austin Police Sgt. Adam Johnson raised his service pistol and fired a bullseye into the target some 312 feet away.
Down went Larry McQuilliams, and so ended his rampage through the streets of the Texas capital, where he’d fired more than 100 rounds from his AK-47 and .22-caliber rifles at buildings. The shot, from Johnson’s Smith & Wesson M&P .40 pistol, hit McQuilliams square in the chest and made the 15-year-veteran the toast of gun enthusiasts around the country.
[. . .]
“For a guy to keep his composure and holding two horses with one hand and taking a one-hand shot with the other hand, it says a lot about the training and professionalism of our police department,” Austin Police Chief Art Acevedo said to the Austin American-Statesman.
Johnson, who works with the Mounted Patrol Unit, was about to get off duty and stabling the horses when he heard shots and returned fire at 2:33 a.m.
On Friday,  Johnson, who is on routine administrative leave following the incident, made his first public appearance  at a holiday charity event.
The sharpshooter told a local radio host he thanked God for being at the "right place at the right time."
