NPR Celebrates Public Benefits Recipient As Success Story

[From article]
Listen to this NPR podcast. They are so proud of it that they re-posted it:
Meet a single mother who makes $16,000 a year and managed to fund a vacation at a Caribbean resort with an interest-free loan from one of the world's largest banks.
The report goes on: an abusive husband; her kid tells how much fun he had playing with dolphins at that resort. Meanwhile, pretty much all her expenses – child care, medical care, food, air conditioning, etc. – are taken care of by the government.
And she thanks God! (How about thanking American taxpayers?)
She declares she has never taken welfare! (She does not consider any of the above “welfare” even though our taxes pay for it.) And she talks about coming to America in 1997 and then talks about going back to “her country” for a visit and tells the interviewer to go to “my country” and see how life is there.
She also mentions taxpayer money going to pay for nails being done.
Taxpayer-funded NPR has the gall to say she "may be the single most successful and productive beneficiary of government assistance you'll ever meet."

Democratic Policies Harmful To Loyal Black Voters

[From article]
Bedtime for my four younger siblings and me was 9pm. Much later one night, there was a knock at our front door. It was a relative, 9 year old Barbara who had been roaming Baltimore streets searching for her drunkard welfare mother. Dad grabbed Barbara and forced her to spend the night. Dad recently told me that he remembers Barbara's mother saying, “I don't have to do anything and my white man (government) brings my check every month.”
Barbara's mom passed decades ago. Barbara is now in her sixties. I recently learned that Barbara has 52 kids and grand-kids raised on welfare without fathers. At one time, I would have criticized Barbara. But for some reason, my heart goes out to her. Barbara's life could have been so much more. Barbara's life is the legacy of loyalty to Democrats.
For fifty years Democrats have been promising blacks better lives from government dependency and voting Democrat. And yet, today rather than fewer Barbaras, in Baltimore and other cities controlled by Democrats, there are more Barbaras than ever. Over 70 percent of black kids grow up in fatherless, government dependent households which breeds poverty, incarceration, black on black crime, epidemic school dropouts and substance abuse.[. . .]
Meanwhile, rich Hollywood liberal white boys like Quentin Tarantino think they are doing blacks a favor by furthering the Democrats' blacks-are-victims-of-racist-America myth. Many rich successful blacks are just as guilty, nurturing the victim mindset that is stifling black success, creating unnecessary anger and igniting racial violence.

RI Police Welfare Check Leads To Arrest For Weapons Poissession

[From article]
Cops were initially called to check on L’esperance Friday night after his wife found him in their basement and feared he had tried to kill himself. L’esperance fought with the officers, according to a police report. His wife told police L’esperance had pushed her, and he was charged with domestic assault and battery, assaulting a police officer, intimidating a witness, resisting arrest and disorderly conduct.
His wife took out a restraining order against her husband, which required him to surrender all his guns, and he told police he had just one shotgun at a relative’s house in Rhode Island. But his wife said there was a handgun at the Medway house, which prompted the search. L’esperance was tracked to a Rhode Island hospital and arrested by the Rhode Island State Police. He’s now facing charges of violating a restraining order and various gun and explosives charges.

Opposing Migrants From Middle East Makes Sense

[From article]
The United States is the most generous nation in the world, and we have taken many refugees from foreign lands. Europe has not offered to take refugees from Central America, so why are some politicians here insisting that we take many thousands of refugees from the Middle East?
While refugee crises are tragic, crimes committed by transplanted peoples against unwarned, unprotected victims in our own country are even more tragic. Politicians demanding that American neighborhoods accept thousands of refugees, without proper screening or any indication by the migrants that they genuinely want to assimilate into our culture, should be rejected.
Americans are horrified by images of tens of thousands of people, mostly young unattached Muslim men from the Middle East and Africa, crossing unguarded borders into Europe. The news media often describe these people sympathetically as refugees from the civil war in Syria, but many could be migrants seeking a more comfortable life in a rich society with a cradle-to-grave welfare state.
The scene is eerily reminiscent of the tens of thousands of people from Central America who crossed into the United States last summer. Often described sympathetically as unaccompanied minors fleeing gang violence, most of those Central American arrivals were able-bodied, tough young men who left their families in search of better economic opportunities.
Wealthy European nations did not offer to help out by accepting thousands of migrants from Central America. We did not expect that of them, and they should not expect it of us now.
The Muslim migrants follow a route through Turkey, Macedonia and Serbia into Hungary, the European country closest to the Middle East, and from Hungary they can travel throughout 26 European nations. That route may soon close when Hungary completes the razor-wire fence it is building along its entire 108-mile border with Serbia.
[. . .]

The idea of creating nations without borders, allowing the free movement of people inside a common perimeter, was pushed by President George W. Bush when he met with Mexico's president and Canada's prime minister in Waco, Texas, on March 23, 2005. Soon after that first summit of "the three amigos," the Council on Foreign Relations published "Toward a North American Community," which called for a "seamless market" with "a more open border for the movement of goods and people."
[. . .]
Stark financial problems also stand against welcoming so many strangers into our country. More than 90 percent of recent refugees from the Middle East are on welfare, according to official statistics published by the U.S. Office of Refugee Resettlement (ORR).
Our welfare system is already strained by the Central American migrants who entered our country illegally and never went home. There are a potential six billion people in the world who would like to partake in the American welfare system if given the opportunity, but we cannot afford to foot the bill for everyone in the world who does not have a job.

New York City Mayor Repeals Welfare Reforms

[From article]
Mayor Bill de Blasio has tried to be cautious when it comes to policing. He worries that a crime spike will produce an angry citywide reaction that would threaten his political career. But when it comes to welfare reform, the other great advance of the Giuliani/Bloomberg years, de Blasio shows no such caution. He has turned the city’s massive Human Resources Administration over to former Legal Aid Society attorney Steven Banks, a leading “welfare rights” advocate, whose principal contribution over the years has been to tie up the city in litigation.
[. . .]
The newly created Mayor’s Office of Workforce Development proposes a vast new program of job training and enhanced “education,” on the theory that a new version of the old failure will reduce inequality in New York. De Blasio’s plan, notes former Giuliani welfare commissioner Jason Turner, “acknowledges that welfare skills training does not work—but then goes on to recommend a ‘new and improved’ version.”
[. . .]
Research from the Manhattan Institute’s Stephen Eide shows that, in the 12 months ending December 2014—corresponding with the mayor’s first year in office—the city’s welfare rolls added a net of more than 10,000 new recipients. The growth is even more alarming than the net figure suggests, since the numbers were still trending downward until May, when Banks was hired; since then, the rolls have grown by 13,000 (see chart).
[. . .]
The NIRA was dismantled when the Supreme Court struck it down as an unconstitutional extension of federal power. De Blasio’s gimcrack proposals may last longer, but they have no better chance of success.

Berkeley CA Approves Free Marijuana For Low Income Residents

[From article]
Weed welfare?
That’s what the Berkeley City Council in California has unanimously approved, ordering medical marijuana dispensaries to donate 2 percent of their stash to patients making less than $32,000 a year.
The new welfare program in the liberal-leaning city is set to launch in August 2015.
The ordinance, which passed in August and is the first of its kind in the country, comes at a time when several states are debating how to handle a growing movement to legalize marijuana for both medical and recreational use.

Government Assistance To Black People Is Not Helping

[From article]
Back in the heyday of the British Empire, a man from one of the colonies addressed a London audience.
"Please do not do any more good in my country," he said. "We have suffered too much already from all the good that you have done."
That is essentially the message of an outstanding new book by Jason Riley about blacks in America. Its title is "Please Stop Helping Us."
[. . .]
When it comes to affirmative action, Jason Riley asks the key question: "Do racial preferences work? What is the track record?" Like many other well-meaning and nice-sounding policies, affirmative action cannot survive factual scrutiny.
[. . .]
in response to claims that blacks don't do well academically because the schools use an approach geared to white students, he points out that blacks from foreign, non-English-speaking countries do better in American schools than black, English-speaking American students.
[. . .]
Asian students do better than whites in schools supposedly geared to whites. In New York City's three academically elite public high schools — Stuyvesant, Bronx Science and Brooklyn Tech — there are more than twice as many Asian students as white students in all three institutions.

Maine Governor Tries To Halt Welfare Fraud

[From article]
[Maine] Gov. Paul LePage will launch an investigation into potential fraud of EBT cards.
Speaking to State House reporters on Thursday, LePage said that initial conversations with DHHS officials and law enforcement have shown him the problem is “far bigger than I would ever, ever have imagined.” He said early indications reveal fraud that would be measured “not in the thousands” but in seven digits.

What a difference from Massachusetts, where the Governor (Obama's BFF) refused to recognize similar fraud. He calls it "anecdotes." And the Massachusetts Department of Health and Human Services refuses to cooperate with legislators who want an investigation. It shows that Massachusetts has a thoroughly corrupt government. It is encouraging that at least it is not the entire country.

Massive Fraud Exposed in Welfare Program

[From article]
Store owners would allegedly purchase customer’s WIC coupons and give the recipient a percentage of the cash value.
The store owners would then pocket their cut of the money before being reimbursed by the government for the coupons, sources said.
[. . .]
Sources said the scheme was localized specifically in Asian neighborhoods, with some stores buying as much as $20,000 worth of welfare vouchers per month.

Illegal Alien Couple Charged With Drug Sales, Have Substantial Gov't Benefits

BUSTED: Police say they raided the home of Odelio Sepulveda-Guerrero and found more than $65,000 in cash, heroin, cocaine, an EBT card and documents for WIC and MassHealth.

[From article]
Police Detective Bob Walsh alerted the state Department of Transitional Assistance that welfare benefits were being paid to a Dorchester woman whose live-in boyfriend was busted in a raid that netted heroin, cocaine, more than $65,000 in cash, an EBT card and WIC and MassHealth documents in their apartment and cars.
[. . .]
But five weeks passed without a peep from the state — not even a return call to Walsh on the case of the couple, both illegal immigrants, according to immigration officials.

Marathon Bomb Suspects and Family Collected Welfare Benefits

Food Stamps

EBT Card

[From article]
Marathon bombings mastermind Tamerlan Tsarnaev was living on taxpayer-funded state welfare benefits even as he was delving deep into the world of radical anti-American Islamism, the Herald has learned.
State officials confirmed last night that Tsarnaev, slain in a raging gun battle with police last Friday, was receiving benefits along with his wife, Katherine Russell Tsarnaev, and their 3-year-old daughter. The state’s Executive Office of Health and Human Services said those benefits ended in 2012 when the couple stopped meeting income eligibility limits. Russell Tsarnaev’s attorney has claimed Katherine — who had converted to Islam — was working up to 80 hours a week as a home health aide while Tsarnaev stayed at home.
In addition, both of Tsarnaev’s parents received benefits, and accused brother bombers Dzhokhar and Tamerlan were recipients through their parents when they were younger, according to the state.

Thank You America

A Russian arrives in New York City as a new immigrant to the United States .

He stops the first person he sees walking down the street and says, "Thank you Mr. American for letting me come into this country, giving me housing, food stamps, free medical care, and a free education!"

The passerby says, "You are mistaken, I am a Mexican."

The man goes on and encounters another passerby. "Thank you for having such a beautiful country here in America ."

The person says, "I not American, I Vietnamese."

The new arrival walks farther, and the next person he sees he stops, shakes his hand, and says, "Thank you for wonderful America !
That person puts up his hand and says,
"I am from Middle East. I am not American."

He finally sees a nice lady and asks, "Are you an American?"
She says, "No, I am from Africa ."

Puzzled, he asks her, "Where are all the Americans?"

The African lady checks her watch and says,
"Probably at work."

Comedy Banned At Harvard, Looking Down From the Ivory Tower

The smartest man in the room seldom has a sense of humor. In the film Loser, a professor having an affair with a 17-year-old female student is portrayed as being that smartest man at the college. He shows no humor and lacks common sense too. Below is an exchange on the discussion boards of the Harvard Crimson, the student newspaper at Harvard University. It appeared under a story about the campaign for US Senator in Massachusetts. Republican Scott Brown is the incumbent, quite an accomplishment in a heavily Democratic state. Elizabeth Warren a Harvard Law Professor is the Democratic challenger. The article is about the use of welfare rolls to send out voter registration forms with return postage. Warren's daughter is chairman of the board of a non profit which sued the state of Massachusetts to force them to comply with this voter registration law. Brown says that Warren, having raised $13 million for her campaign, should pay for the mailing.

Mr. Jonathan Pulliam dislikes Mitt Romney is all I've been able to discover. It may explain his moral superiority, his obtuse use of precise technical words pulled from text books, his omniscience, arrogance, personal attacks and his lack of a sense of humor. Poor JP, it is a burden being the smartest man in the room. "Willfully ignorant?" Huh?

[JP]
"Brown demanded that Warren reimburse taxpayers the costs of the mailings, which he called an “unprecedented voter registration drive.”
Massachusetts wasn't complying with the 1993 federal law, and Demos already had a well-established track record of litigating non-compliant states, so the Brown camp oughtn't hold its collective breath waiting for a refund.
Not to put too fine a point on it, but tertiary partisan jockeying amounts to, in the current context of ongoing global liquidity crises coupled with persistent, pronounced economic recession, just the sort of "rearranging the deck chairs on the Titanic" partisanship decried across our Commonwealth and which figures so prominently in all of Scott Brown's recent campaign ads.
Rather than becoming distracted by the inconsequential minutiae of our post-Gerrymandered Commonwealth's arcane election laws, it is our critically urgent obligation rather to first address the more pressing policy proposals facing us.
* * *
[M]
Why do voters need to register before voting? That only embarrasses non citizens, and tourists who want to vote. I mean, like, you know, if a person has enough enthusiasm to actually go into those polling places, which are usually very dull with no music, no internet connections, no adult beverages available, to vote, why not encourage them? And why not allow people to vote from adult beverage emporiums, using their mobile devices? Why the burden of having to go to those polling places at all? Yecch. BTW does anyone know what "tertiary partisan jockeying" means? Horse racing? Underwear? "Global liquidity crisis?" Anyone? Does it have to do with adult liquid beverages not being allowed in polling places? How old do you have be to vote? Is there an upper age limit? Are waivers granted to very intelligent and highly motivated people? Can you vote more than once?
* * *
[JP] reply;
Tertiary partisan jockeying, as with tertiary syphilis, is the final stage which precedes the fatal dementia-fogged conclusion, invariably the demise of the host. In this instance it is the organism politic here in Massachusetts which is both diseased and dying. Our democratic institutions have been so swamped by a tsunami of mostly out-of-state originating contributions, that the will of our own Commonwealth's electorate has been thwarted again and again.

The "jockeying" refers to advantage-seeking via "positioning" on "issues of questionable priority" artfully introduced by one candidate's team in an attempt to derail the other's bid. People will often "see through" this ploy, though it must be noted that apparently, some don't -- you, to give one counter-example, fail completely in this regard, it must be stated.

It is not my duty to have to educate willfully ignorant persons such as yourself in the meaning of terminology used to describe economic concepts. That said, "illiquidity" is when one can't afford to pay, typically until they themselves are paid debt obligations owed. That is what has typically occurred when one hears of cascading loan, or bond-payment defaults. The classic, textbook example of a "Global liquidity crisis" would, of course, have been the so-called "Banker's Panic of 1907" a financial liquidity shortfall partially remediated by the intervention of J.P. Morgan ( the man not the craptacularly corporatized modern-day incarnation ), and the reason I mention our current global liquidity shortfall, manifest recently in Sapin, Greece, and other Eurozone nations, is that undefended, our financial system will wither and die, and if we're too busy arguing and self-righteously positioning ourselves vis-a-vis stupid-ass campaign-generated distractions of tertiary (third-rate) priority, such as the "Motor Voter" law of 1993, then we are essentially abdicating our responsibility to address problems in an order which might reasonably permit their timely and efficacious solution.
* * *
[M] reply:
Gasp! I am not worthy.
