The largest destroyer ever built for the U.S. Navy headed out to sea for the first time Monday, departing from shipbuilder Bath Iron Works in Maine and carefully navigating the winding Kennebec River before reaching the open ocean where the ship will undergo sea trials.
More than 200 shipbuilders, sailors and residents gathered to watch as the futuristic 600-foot, 15,000-ton USS Zumwalt glided past Fort Popham, accompanied by tugboats.

For the crew and all those involved in designing, building, and readying this fantastic ship, this is a huge milestone,' the ship's skipper, Navy Capt. James Kirk, said before the ship departed.

Advanced automation will allow the warship to operate with a much smaller crew size than current destroyers.
All of that innovation has led to construction delays and a growing price tag.
The Zumwalt, the first of three ships in the class, will cost at least $4.4 billion.
The ship looks like nothing ever built at Bath Iron Works.
The inverse bow juts forward to slice through the waves.
Sharp angles deflect enemy radar signals. Radar and antennas are hidden in a composite deckhouse.

George H.W. Bush, George W. Bush and their wives Barbara and Laura watched as retired Army Spc. Tyler Jeffries proposed to Lauren Lilly at the Bush summer home in Kennebunkport.
The elder Bush, who is recovering from breaking a bone in his neck during a fall, later tweeted his congratulations - wishing them 'a lifetime of joy together'.

A man believed to have shot four people in a shooting spree in northern Maine overnight has been identified as sex offender Anthony Lord, says state police spokesman Stephen McCausland. Anyone with information about Lord, who is believed to have stolen a 2010 maroon Peterbilt with green lettering on the side and Maine commercial plate 631745, is asked to call 207-973-3700. "Lord is considered armed and dangerous," McCausland said in an emailed statement.

   Two men were shot and killed and two other men and a woman were injured in the overnight shooting spree in northern Maine, according to Lt. Sean Hashey of the state police. A sixth person was injured after a beating. Anthony Lord, a 35-year-old sex offender, was arrested in Houlton and faces two counts of murder, as well as other charges. One of the shootings happened at the residence of a young woman and her parents. The woman was found to be in the company of Lord when he was arrested, but it is still unclear if she had been kidnapped or was an accomplice.

State police say a former convict sought in the shootings of four people in three northern Maine communities has been taken into custody. Police said Friday that 35-year-old Anthony Lord was arrested in Houlton. They added that a woman being held with him is safe. Dozens of law enforcement officers were searching for Lord, who is believed to have stolen a logging truck before the overnight shootings in the towns of Lee, Benedicta and Silver Ridge. Police didn't identify the victims or provide information about their conditions. They say Lord has a criminal record that includes convictions for domestic assault, criminal threatening and assault. He's also on the state's sex-offender registry.

Maine Sheriff Pays Ransom To Gain Access to Hacked Police Computers

The Portland station said the Lincoln County Sheriff’s Office and four towns paid $300 to the hackers after a virus, called a “megacode,” was downloaded on a computer system they share. Lincoln County Sheriff Todd Bracket said that the computer system was unusable until the fee was paid, and that the hackers claimed the program, called “ransomware,” would wipe the entire computer system clean if the fee wasn’t paid.
The creator of the virus gave the sheriff’s office a code to unlock the computer system after the money was received. The county paid in bitcoins, an online currency.
“We needed our programs to get back online,” said Damariscotta Police Chief Ron Young. “That was a choice we all discussed and took to get back online to get our information.”
Brackett told WCSH that the FBI tracked the payment to a Swiss bank account, but no further.
The Houlton Police Department told the station that it was hit with a similar virus early this week and its computer system was locked up until ransom was paid.
Last summer, the FBI, foreign governments and private security firms dismantled an operation, based in Russia, that commandeered as many as a million computers and drew money out of bank accounts, The Washington Post reported. The operation also included a ransomware scheme and officials said they had identified the 30-year-old Russian behind the operation but had not apprehended him.

Maine Governor Tries To Halt Welfare Fraud

[Maine] Gov. Paul LePage will launch an investigation into potential fraud of EBT cards.
Speaking to State House reporters on Thursday, LePage said that initial conversations with DHHS officials and law enforcement have shown him the problem is “far bigger than I would ever, ever have imagined.” He said early indications reveal fraud that would be measured “not in the thousands” but in seven digits.

What a difference from Massachusetts, where the Governor (Obama's BFF) refused to recognize similar fraud. He calls it "anecdotes." And the Massachusetts Department of Health and Human Services refuses to cooperate with legislators who want an investigation. It shows that Massachusetts has a thoroughly corrupt government. It is encouraging that at least it is not the entire country.

Attempts by the prominent Johns, who were exposed on film participating in prostitution, to prevent the release of their names failed. On Monday October 15, 2012 Howie Carr began reading the names of the men on his radio talk show. One caller from Maine said he recognized some of them as elected officials. The lawyer for these men argued that it was a minor offense. So if it was so minor what is the problem with releasing their names?

Meet Maine's New Governor Meet Maine 's New Governor --- In case you haven't heard about this guy before, his name will stick in your mind! The new Maine Governor, Paul LePage is making New Jersey's Chris Christie look like an enabler. He isn't afraid to say what he thinks. Judging by the comments, every time he opens his mouth, his popularity goes up. He brought down the house at his inauguration when he shook his fist toward the media box and said, "You're on notice! I've inherited a financially troubled State to run. Observe...cover what we do... but don't whine if I don't waste time responding to your every whim just for your amusement." During his campaign for Governor, he was talking to commercial fishermen who are struggling because of federal fisheries rules. They complained that 0bama brought his family to Bar Harbor and Acadia National Park for a long Labor Day holiday and found time to meet with union leaders, but wouldn't talk to the fishermen. LePage replied, "I'd tell him to go to hell and get out of my State." The Lame Stream Media crucified LePage, but he jumped 6 points in the pre-election poll. The Martin Luther King incident was a political sandbag, which brought him National exposure. The 'lame stream' media crucified him, but word on the street is very positive. The NAACP specifically asked LePage to spend MLK Day visiting black inmates at the Maine State Prison. He told them that he would meet with ALL inmates, regardless of race, if he were to visit the prison. The NAACP balked and then put out a news release claiming falsely that he refused to participate in any MLK events. He read it in the paper for the 1st time the next morning while being driven to an event and went ballistic because none of the reporters had called him for comment before running the NAACP release. He arrived at that event & said in front of a TV camera, "If they want to play the race card on me they can kiss my ass", and he reminded them that he has an adopted black son from Jamaica and that he attended the local MLK Breakfast every year that he was mayor of Waterville. (He started his morning there on MLK Day.) He then stated that there's a right way and a wrong way to meet with the Governor, and he put all special interests on notice that press releases, media leaks, and all demonstrations would prove to be the wrong way. He said any other group, which acted like the NAACP could expect to be at the bottom of the Governor's priority list! He then did the following, and judging from local radio talk show callers, his popularity increased even more: The State employees union complained because he waited until 3 P.M. before closing State offices and facilities and sending non-emergency personnel home during the last blizzard. The prior Governor would often close offices for the day with just a forecast before the first flakes. (Each time the State closes for snow, it costs the taxpayers about $1 million in wages for no work in return.) LePage was CEO of the Marden's chain of discount family bargain retail stores before election as governor. He noted that State employees getting off work early could still find lots of retail stores open to shop. So, he put the State employees on notice by announcing: "If Marden's is open, Maine is open!" He told State employees: "We live in Maine in the winter, for heaven's sake, and should know how to drive in it. Otherwise, apply for a State job in Florida !" Governor LePage symbolizes what America needs; Refreshing politicians who aren't self-serving and who exhibit common sense. THE LAW IS THE LAW So "if" the US government determines that it is against the law for the words "under God" to be on our money, then, so be it. And "if" that same government decides that the "Ten Commandments" are not to be used in or on a government installation, then, so be it. I say, "so be it," because I would like to be a law abiding US citizen. I say, "so be it," because I would like to think that smarter people than I are in positions to make good decisions. I would like to think that those people have the American public's best interests at heart. BUT, YOU KNOW WHAT ELSE I'D LIKE? Since we can't pray to God, can't Trust in God and cannot post His Commandments in Government buildings, I don't believe Government (Federal, State and Local) and its employees should participate in Easter and Christmas celebrations which honor the God that our government is eliminating from many facets of American life. I'd like my mail delivered on Christmas, Good Friday, Thanksgiving & Easter. After all, it's just another day. I'd like the" US Supreme Court to be in session on Christmas, Good Friday, Thanksgiving & Easter as well as Sundays." After all, it's just another day. I'd like the Senate and the House of Representatives to not have to worry about getting home for the "Christmas Break." After all it's just another day. I'm thinking a lot of my taxpayer dollars could be saved, if all government offices & services would work on Christmas, Good Friday & Easter. It shouldn't cost any overtime since those would be just like any other day of the week to a government that is trying to be "politically correct." In fact....I think our government should work on Sundays (initially set aside for worshipping God....) because, after all, our government says that it should be just another day....
