Woman Florida Attorney Disbarred For Taking Drugs, Phone Sex With Inmates

Disbarred Florida Attorney, Linda Hadad
Photo: Splash News

[From article]
The Florida Bar announced Friday it had disbarred a defense attorney accused of taking a slew of illegal drugs and engaging in phone sex with at least two jail inmates.
Linda Hadad admitted she used crystal meth, crack ecstasy, cocaine and marijuana, WFTV reports, adding that she also took Adderall, oxycodone, Xanax and Lortab without prescriptions.
The Volusia County Jail recorded her steamy phone conversations with inmates, according to court documents. In one chat, Hadad reportedly mentioned getting a sex toy.
Police had arrested the attorney last summer after she tried to escape officers who stopped her for an expired tag. Investigators used a helicopter to help find her, The Daytona Beach News-Journal reports. A judge put her on five years’ probation.
Hadad also admitted she used her credit card to rent a vehicle for man who repaid her with more drugs, WFTV adds. She had started her own practice after serving as a public defender, according to the news station.

US Judge Threatens to Hold IRS Attorneys and Commissioner, and Justice Department Attorneys in Contempt

U.S District Court Judge Emmet Sullivan today [July 29, 2015] threatened to hold the Commissioner of the Internal Revenue Service and Justice Department attorneys in contempt of court after the IRS failed to produce status reports and newly recovered emails of Lois Lerner, former director of the Exempt Organizations Unit of the IRS, as he had ordered on July 1, 2015.

The way that the Obama-Holder doctrine works is that inconvenient laws may be ignored. It appears that this unaware US Court judge did not read the memo. In addition in Washington DC, as in Cambridge MA laws are optional. So in case the judge follows through with his threats and does detain the mendacious, deceptive abusive of power attorneys, the White House will have to act and issue pardons for all of his fellow elitist, morally superior lawyers. Then it is likely the Judge will be impeached by the civil rights division of the Department of Justice for discrimination against these attorneys who are unable to comply with the laws, due to their predisposition to commit crime. It is an ethnic problem which gives the lawyers standing to file with the Civil Rights Division.

[From article]
Judicial Watch announced that U.S District Court Judge Emmet Sullivan today threatened to hold the Commissioner of the Internal Revenue Service and Justice Department attorneys in contempt of court after the IRS failed to produce status reports and newly recovered emails of Lois Lerner, former director of the Exempt Organizations Unit of the IRS, as he had ordered on July 1, 2015.
During the a status hearing today, Sullivan warned that the failure to follow his order was serious and the IRS and Justice Department’s excuses for not following his July 1 order were “indefensible, ridiculous, and absurd.” He asked the IRS’ Justice Department lawyer Geoffrey Klimas, “Why didn’t the IRS comply” with his court order and “why shouldn’t the Court hold the Commissioner of the IRS in contempt.” Judge Sullivan referenced his contempt findings against Justice Department prosecutors in the prosecution of late Senator Ted Stevens (R-AK) and reminded the Justice Department attorney he had the ability to detain him for contempt. Warning he would tolerate no further disregard of his orders, Judge Sullivan said, “I will haul into court the IRS Commissioner to hold him personally into contempt.”
[. . .]
“In a dramatic court hearing today, Judge Sullivan made it clear he would personally hold accountable the IRS Commissioner Koskinen and Justice Department attorneys for any further contempt of his court orders in Judicial Watch FOIA lawsuit,” said Judicial Watch President Tom Fitton. “The missing and-then-not missing Lois Lerner saga is a stark example of the Obama administration’s contempt for a federal court and the rule of law. That Obama administration officials would risk jail rather than disclose these Lerner documents shows that the IRS scandal has just gotten a whole lot worse.”

IRS Attorney Disbarred

[From article]
The lawyer, Takisha Brown, reportedly had bragged that she would never be punished because her boss would protect her, but an IRS spokesman said Wednesday that she was no longer an employee at the agency.
“Our records indicate that this employee no longer works for the IRS,” spokesman Matthew Leas said, though he wouldn’t comment further on the case, which became another black eye for the embattled tax agency when The Washington Times first reported on it last year.
Ms. Brown had her licenses suspended and then was disbarred after misusing money she won for a client in an automobile accident case. Under terms of the deal, Ms. Brown was to use part of the settlement to pay the victim’s medical bills, but the lawyer withdrew the money herself and ignored repeated requests from the client’s physicians to make good on the bills, the appeals court said.
Ms. Brown also misled a disbarment hearing panel when it began looking into the matter, the court said.

Anti Discrimination Attorney Charged With Holding Millions in Affordable Housing Money

Craig Gurian, Attorney

This is a long term pattern with non profits going back at least to the 1960s when Head Start groups paid their lawyers tens of thousands and little money went to help the poor.

[From article]
A civil-rights group is under fire for collecting $10 million as part of a 2009 federal discrimination-suit settlement in Westchester County and not disbursing a dime to help poor minorities secure housing.
The controversy centers on the The Anti-Discrimination Center of Manhattan and its leader, Craig Gurian.
The group filed a $180 million suit in 2007 claiming Westchester had received tens of millions of dollars in federal housing funds but failed to build affordable apartments for minorities in white areas.
[. . .]
Watchdog.org, an investigative-journalism Web site, reported that Gurian wasn’t spending any of the money on housing, while paying himself and his wife, Lori Bilkson, $245,000 a year.
“That group needs to be investigated,” said Bishop Nathan Edwards, president of the United Black Clergy of Westchester.

Suspect Held in DC Psychiatric Hospital for 40 Years After Arrest For Theft of $20 Necklace

Franklin Frye, 68, has been in D.C.'s St. Elizabeth's psychiatric hospital since being charged with stealing a $20 necklace in 1970.
Photo by Jim McElhatton/The Washington Times

The problem lies with psychiatry and their priests.

[From article]
It didn’t matter. Four decades ago, police charged him with stealing a $20 necklace, but Mr. Frye was found not competent to stand trial. If he’d been found guilty, he would’ve faced a fine or perhaps a short jail sentence. Instead, he’s spent most of his life inside the District’s psychiatric hospital, St. Elizabeth’s, feeling frustrated with, and forgotten by, the very system charged with looking after his welfare.
It’s a case that raises tricky questions about fairness within the criminal justice system and life inside St. Elizabeth’s. Indeed, for years the court system simply lost track of him.
[. . .]
Through the D.C. public defender’s office, Mr. Frye sought unconditional release in 2008, but his motion was filed on the docket of a dead judge, where it remained until earlier this year — with no apology or explanation from court officials.
[. . .]
But in 1983, the Supreme Court, in the case Jones v. U.S., ruled in a 5-4 decision that there was “no necessary correlation” between the length of a “hypothetical” criminal sentence and how long it takes to recover from insanity.
[. . .]
William Frye said he only recently learned that his brother attends Alcoholics Anonymous meetings, even though he said Franklin has never had a drinking problem.

Former Justice Department Attorney, Now Labor Secretary, Advocates Sharing Wealth

Tom Perez, Obama Acolyte

The man who refused to enforce civil rights laws in a race neutral manner (see, J. Christian Adams, Injustice, and John Fund and Hans van Spakovksy's Who's Counting?) when he was chief of the Civil Rights division of the Department of Justice now advocates stealing from wealthy people and giving it to poor people? How long will that last?

[From article]
Labor Secretary Thomas Perez said President Barack Obama will take "aggressive executive action" on immigration, which Perez said will bring about more "shared prosperity."
[. . .]
Silicon Valley companies like Microsoft are laying off thousands of American workers, even as they clamor for more guest-worker permits for cheaper foreign labor. Though numerous scholars and studies have found that America has a surplus of high-tech workers, Obama suggested in Southern California recently that he is considering granting more guest-worker visas to high-tech companies via executive action. Perez spoke about the importance of giving more opportunities to enter the middle class, but he did not address Professor Ron Hira's concerns that massively increasing guest-worker permits for high-tech workers would "cut off" entry into the middle class for people from working-class backgrounds.

NJ Civil Rights Lawyer Found Dead, Police Say It Was Suicide

William Buckman, 61, a nationally known figure, was found dead in a hotel room on Tuesday

[From article]
His death was discovered around 8:45 a.m. said Mount Laurel Police Lt. Stephen Riedener reports NJ.com.
He said officers had been asked to check on Buckman's well-being.
'The manner of death was suicide,' Riedener said.
Riedener said the 61-year-old was found in his room and pronounced dead at the scene.
He said no foul play was involved, and the investigation has been closed.
Buckman, who was married with two children, rose to prominence while defending Pedro Soto of Gloucester County in a drug case.
He successfully won a motion to suppress evidence seized during a State Police highway stop on the basis of racial profiling.
The judge ruled that troopers routinely stopped minority motorists in New Jersey based on the their skin color.
He found such stops to be illegal and threw out drug and weapons evidence against Soto and 16 others.

Attorney For Boston Marathon Bomb Suspect Impersonated an FBI Agent

[From article]
Boston Marathon bombing defendant Dzhokhar Tsarnaev’s lawyers were kicked out of Russia for pretending to be tourists and impersonating Federal Bureau of Investigation agents during interviews, U.S. prosecutors said.
The Russian government notified the U.S. that three visiting lawyers, who weren’t named, also refused to confirm their legal status while conducting their investigation, prosecutors said in a filing yesterday in Boston federal court. The U.S. government’s claim comes as defense lawyers seek to delay the trial, set for this year, until September 2015.
“At least some of Tsarnaev’s problems in conducting an overseas investigation arguably are of his own making,” prosecutors said.
[. . .]
Tsarnaev’s lawyers have never denied he carried out the attack on the Boston Marathon. The defense has said in court papers they will attempt to pin most of the blame on his older brother, Tamerlan, who died in a police shootout in the days after the attack. Tamerlan Tsarnaev, who was 26 when he died, was radicalized by Islamic extremism and influenced his brother, who looked up to him, the defense has said.

FL Judge Threatens, Punches Attorney

[From article]
Judge John Murphy is accused of punching veteran public defender Andrew Weinstock after the two had words during court in which Murphy allegedly pressured Weinstock to get his client to waive his right to a speedy trial.
"You know, if I had a rock I would throw it at you right now," Murphy tells Weinstock. "Stop pissing me off. Just sit down."
"You know I'm the public defender. I have a right to be here and I have a right to stand and represent my client," Weinstock said in the video.

College Students Deserve Lawyers When Charged With Campus Offenses

[From article]
Here is what Joe Cohn, FIRE's Legislative and Policy Director, starkly told those legislators about what is happening to students there charged with "theft, harassment, assault, drug and weapons possession, stalking and rape." Until this bill is passed, Cohn said, students "will continue to be forced to represent themselves -- alone -- against experienced and professionally trained deans, administrators and university attorneys in proceedings that fail to guarantee core components of the rights of due process ...
"The stakes," he continues, "are very, very high; the result of these hearings dramatically change the course of these students' lives ... Some institutions may allow a lawyer to attend the hearing, but prohibit them from participating in the proceedings. Others ban attorneys altogether. The universities, on the other hand, are free to send as many attorneys as they wish to prosecute the student."

Judge Denies Attorney Fee Motion Against PsychRights

Last month we reported certain defendants in PsychRights Big Medicaid Fraud case asked for over $325,000 in attorney's fees against PsychRights. Today the judge denied that motion. http://psychrights.org/States/Alaska/Matsutani/201-101207OrderDenyingAttyFees.pdf

For background, this is the case against various child psychiatrists, providers, pharmacies, state officials and a medical publisher for causing or submitting fraudulent claims to Medicaid for psychiatric drugs that are not for an accepted medical use as defined under Medicaid ("medically accepted indication"). The judge threw the case out of court because he said the Government knows all about the fraud and isn't doing anything about it. We have appealed that decision because we think the judge is wrong and in today's order denying the attorney fee award, the judge reiterated that there was "no consensus," that his decision was correct.

There is more information on the case at http://psychrights.org/States/Alaska/Matsutani/Matsutani.htm The case is part of PsychRights' Medicaid Fraud Initiative Against Psychiatric Drugging of Children and Youth. See, http://psychrights.org/Education/ModelQuiTam/ModelQuiTam.htm We think this initiative has the potential for really putting the brakes on the drugging of children and youth by making the doctors realize they face financial ruin by continuing the practice.

We had been reluctant to try and raise a bunch of money for PsychRights with the threat of having it go to the defendants so now would be an excellent time to make a donation to PsychRights if you can and are so inclined. It will be greatly appreciated.

Psychiatric Rights

The Law Project for Psychiatric Rights is a public interest law firm devoted to the defense of people facing the horrors of forced psychiatric drugging. We are further dedicated to exposing the truth about these drugs and the courts being misled into ordering people to be drugged and subjected to other brain and body damaging interventions against their will. Currently, due to massive growth in psychiatric drugging of children and youth and the current targeting of them for even more psychiatric drugging, PsychRights has made attacking this problem a priority. Children are virtually always forced to take these drugs because it is the adults in their lives who are making the decision. This is an unfolding national tragedy of immense proportions.
