New Book About Sexist Male Pigs On Wall Street

Maureen Sherry claims that the few women at Bear Stearns were sat together on what was disparagingly called ‘Estrogen Row’ by the men.

[From review]
When Maureen Sherry resigned from Bear Stearns after 10 years, she was given a going-away party, a sizable check — and a nondisclosure agreement.
“The legal department gave me this document to sign,” she says, and the money was a bribe: Don’t ever talk about the things you’ve seen here, or the way you were harassed, dehumanized, humiliated.
Sherry refused to sign and declined the check. “Me taking money,” she says, “wouldn’t help anyone coming up after me.”
Her forthcoming novel, “Opening Belle” (Simon & Schuster), a thinly fictionalized account of her 11 years on Wall Street, is the result.
[. . .]
For all of the horror stories she tells — the sexual degradation of female traders, the marginalization of women who were married or had kids — Sherry insists she didn’t have it so bad. A colleague may have guzzled her breast milk, and another may have left unwrapped condoms strewn in her pizza box, but, she says, “a lot of it was pranks. I never got groped.”
And herein lies the conflict so many women on Wall Street still struggle with: The very firms that have made them wealthy and successful have also abused them terribly — and like so many victims, many of these women feel it’s somehow their fault, their problem to fix.
Sherry points to Sallie Krawcheck, who was publicly fired from Bank of America during the mortgage crisis. Now “she runs Ellevate — it’s a membership thing for women. A lot of it’s about strategies, and how to work better with men.”
But why, she’s asked, should the onus be on women to work around men who treat them poorly?
[. . .]
A former colleague of Sherry’s, who asked not to be named, says it’s even worse than that. “Men getting b- - -jobs in front of staff — that happened all the time,” she says. “Lots of things that were extremely shocking, pretty disgusting.”
[. . .]

“Women filing complaints feel like it reflects poorly on them — that they are weak, non-team players,” Sherry says. “They don’t want to be labeled as a troublemaker. It’s a team environment, and they’ll ostracize themselves if they do so.”
Most everyone who goes to work on Wall Street is made to sign a U4 — a document stating that any grievances will be settled in-house. It’s meant to fend off sexual-harassment suits and fosters a secretive, hermetically sealed environment: Bad behavior stays behind closed doors.
[. . .]
In March 2010, three women filed a gender-bias suit against Bank of America, and in September, three women filed a sexual-discrimination suit against Goldman Sachs.
A refiling of that suit in 2015 claimed not just pay gaps and discrimination but that “Goldman condones the sexualization of women and an uncorrected culture of sexual assault and harassment.” One of the plaintiffs claims that she “was sexually assaulted by a married male colleague” after a business dinner, and that when she reported it to higher-ups, she was demoted.
In 2004 and 2007, Morgan Stanley settled two gender-discrimination suits for more than $100 million. The plaintiffs: thousands of women.
[. . .]
Then there are the male traders — less productive, less hardworking — who make double what the women do. Often, the excuse is that men can do what women cannot: comfortably entertain male clients on golf courses, at strip clubs and brothels.
[. . .]
For a moment — a super-brief, blink-and-you-miss-it-moment — there was a great discussion point after the 2008 financial collapse: Could the crisis have been averted, or at least mitigated, if there were more women in positions of power on Wall Street?
In 2014, in a column called “Eight Things I Wish for Wall Street,” author Michael Lewis wrote that women should be in charge.
“Men are more prone to financial risk-taking and overconfidence,” he wrote. “Trading is a bit like pornography: Women may like it, but they don’t like it nearly as much as men, and they certainly don’t like it in ways that create difficulties for society. Put them in charge of all financial decision-making and the decisions will be more boring, but more sociable.”
Sherry agrees. She also thinks there’s only one thing that could make Wall Street renounce its deplorable, chauvinistic attitude toward women: money. A 2014 report from the White House Council of Economic Advisers found that more women complete college and grad school than men, and make up a larger percentage of the work force.
That same year, Forbes magazine reported that women in their 20s without children out-earned their male peers. And a 2013 Pew Research Center report said women are now far more likely to be their family’s primary breadwinner.
That’s a lot of women with a lot of money to invest, and chances are high they’d rather not negotiate at a strip club.

[From article]
A female former trader has lifted the lid on Wall St sexism and revealed how male colleagues mooed at her when she was lactating - and once drank her breast milk.
Maureen Sherry claims that the few women at Bear Stearns were sat together on what was disparagingly called ‘Estrogen Row’ by the men.
They were mocked as ‘fertile lassies’ and one man even knocked back a shot of breast milk she had stored in the office fridge.
Miss Sherry, 51, claimed that the sexism was so bad that in interviews women were asked if they were married and if they planned to marry.
Some were supposedly made to promise never to have children.
Miss Sherry made the revelations in her forthcoming novel Opening Belle, a thinly fictionalized account of her 11 years as a managing director at now defunct investment bank Bear Stearns in the 90s and 00s.
The book is due to be made into a film starring Reese Witherspoon that will come out later this year.
Miss Sherry, a mother-of-four who attended Cornell University and the Wharton School of Business, writes that on her first day on Wall St she opened up a pizza box to find condoms instead of pepperoni slices put there as a prank.
Men openly debated hiring women based on their looks and one young woman noticed that her interviewer - a man - had drawn her breasts at the top her CV.
In the trading room there was an area called ‘The Dais of the D****’ where the high earning men sat.
They would order women to come over with a microphone before subjecting them to Game of Thrones style humiliations, the book says.
Miss Sherry writes that at one point when she was walking to the company nurse’s office with a breast pump, some men made mooing noises at her.
Mooing happened on other occasions too when she was lactating.
Miss Sherry writes: ‘I ignored the time someone taped torn panties on my screen when I came back from my honeymoon.
‘I don’t want to hear slut jokes all day long. I don’t want to work in a frat house.’
Miss Sherry writes that she lost count of the times a woman shared an idea at a meeting - only for a man to take credit for it.
One male colleague told her that they should hire only ‘women who have brothers’ because they are used to the banter.
[. . .]
Miss Sherry quit, took an MFA from Columbia University in nonfiction writing and is now a writer and mother in New York.
Her husband Steven Klinsky, 59, works at a private equity firm in Manhattan.
Wall St has long been accused of sexism but has done little to address it despite a string of multi-million pound lawsuits brought by former female executive.
Miss Sherry's book seems similar to the account published last year by former Citigroup trader John LeFevre, who was born in the UK and worked in London and Hong Kong.
In ‘Straight to Hell’ he told how he and his colleagues threw thousands of dollars over a shopping mall balcony in Manila in the Philippines during a party.
The group laughing as they watched poor people scoop the cash up until the police told them to stop.

Woman Employee of Yoga Emperor Wins $7 million Damage Award For Sexual Harassment, Retaliation

[From article]
A man who made an empire out of his high-heat brand of yoga has been ordered to pay well over $7 million to a former legal adviser who said he sexually harassed her.
A Los Angeles jury ordered Bikram yoga founder Bikram Choudhury to pay $6.5 million in punitive damages Tuesday on top of $924,000 in compensatory damages he was ordered to pay in the same case a day earlier.
The woman, Minakshi “Miki” Jafa-Bodden, had said Choudhury sexually harassed her and wrongfully fired her for investigating another woman’s rape allegation.
[. . .]
Jafa-Bodden worked as head of legal and international affairs at Choudhury’s Los Angeles yoga school from spring 2011 until March 2013, when she said she was abruptly fired from her six-figure position for refusing to cover up an investigation into a rape allegation.
“Jafa-Bodden faced retaliation and intimidation when she refused to stay silent about witnessing illegal behavior,” her attorney, Mark Quigley, said in a statement.
Additionally, Jafa-Bodden said Choudhury sexually harassed and inappropriately touched her, and tried to get her to stay with him in a hotel suite.
Choudhury, 69, has built an empire around Bikram yoga, a rigorous, 90-minute routine performed in a room that can reach more than 100 degrees. The technique is taught at more than 650 studios worldwide and has drawn a throng of devoted followers.
[. . .]
Jafa-Bodden’s wrongful termination lawsuit is separate from sexual assault lawsuits filed by six other women, five of whom accuse Choudhury of raping them. One of those lawsuits is in the process of being settled while the rest are set for trial later this year.
His attorneys have said he never sexually assaulted any of the women suing him and that prosecutors had declined to bring charges in their cases.
Mary Shea, one of the attorneys representing the women filing the assault lawsuits, said prosecutors never investigated the allegations and that just because charges weren’t filed doesn’t mean the women aren’t telling the truth.
“These are all very brave women who’ve had the courage to stand up against very serious opposition and public scrutiny,” she said. “If anything, this (verdict) has given them the confidence to go forward and speak their truth.”

Bill Clinton's Sexual Antics Apply To Hillary's Campaign

Clinton Feeling Your Pain

[From article]
Bill Clinton was not just a workplace harasser, or even a serial adulterer; he was, and remains, someone credibly accused of sexual assault. And what goes unmentioned—for this obviously could be catastrophic for Hillary’s campaign—is that she has been his willing cohort, the energetic enabler who sought to destroy his accusers to protect their joint political and financial interests.
[. . .]
Never mind that progressives continue to see (and often define) themselves as morally and ethically superior: in the fight to save Bill Clinton’s presidency there could be no adherence to larger truths, or moral consistency, or commitment to time-tested standards; all were sacrificed in defense of Clinton’s political survival.
[. . .]
Hopelessly naïve in that peculiarly American way, ordinary citizens actually expected more of their president.
[. . .]
The Clintons have systematically attempted to blacken the accusers’ names and otherwise destroy their credibility. Yet, at the height of the 1998 crisis, Hillary’s pose as the aggrieved yet forgiving wife allowed the Clinton partisans, starting with those in the media, to push the line that this was a private matter, unworthy of the attention it was receiving. After all, if his wife didn’t care, why should anyone else?
[. . .]
In any case, wrote Steinem, what ultimately mattered most were the president’s policy positions—especially his solid support for abortion.
[. . .]
Here are just a handful of the jokes which became ubiquitous on late-night TV, circa 1998:
Q: What is Bill’s definition of safe sex?
A: When Hillary is out of town.
Q: What is the difference between Clinton and the Titanic?
A: Only 200 women went down on the Titanic.
Q: How does Bill keep Monica Lewinsky away from the White House?
A: He keeps offering to send Ted Kennedy over to give her a ride.
Q: How can a woman tell she’s just had sex with Bill Clinton?
A: She’s got French fries in her hair, and Vernon Jordan is handing her a job application.
[. . .]
—there were reports on the difficulties American parents were having trying to explain to their young children things they wished they didn’t have to.
[. . .]
Is it coincidence that millions of Millennials maintain, along with the president of their formative years, that fellatio does not actually constitute sex? If America has indeed lost much of its former innocence, who can doubt that the 42nd president accelerated the process?
[. . .]
“Things aren’t looking good for Hillary,” joked Jay Leno in 1998. “Like a lot of women in Washington, I think she’s just starting to realize she may have slept with Bill Clinton for nothing.”
[. . .]
The real issue in this election is how much of this history the American people will be willing to ignore, shrug off, or decide doesn’t matter. The real question will be how much the Clintons have changed America.

Ex-NYPD Officer Convicted Of Bribery Asking Recruit For Her Panties In Exchange For Help Hiring Her

[From article]
Lantigua, who was assigned to the Brooklyn North Task Force for nine and a half years before getting fired, contacted the 32-year-old recruit on Facebook, telling her he could expedite her hiring process if she slept with him, paid him $1,000 and gave him her underwear.
He obtained the woman’s information while working in applicant processing, sources previously said.
The dad-of-three was busted in March 2014 after thinking he was going to a Brooklyn motel to meet with the woman.
Cops also found three pairs of women’s underwear in his locker at work, sources added.
In April, Lantigua copped to felony bribery charges in exchange for five years probation. He’ll also be required to attend sex addiction counseling five to six times a month for six months.
[. . .]
He had faced up to seven years in prison.

Nobel prize winner Sir Tim Hunt has an issue with female scientists - they're too distracting romantically and they cry when criticised.
Hunt, 72, an English biochemist who admitted he has a reputation for being a 'chauvinist', reportedly told the World Conference of Science Journalists in Seoul, South Korea:
“Let me tell you about my trouble with girls … three things happen when they are in the lab … You fall in love with them, they fall in love with you and when you criticise them, they cry.”
He added that he was "in favour of single-sex labs" but "doesn't want to stand in the way of women."

NYC Civilian Complaint Review Board Member Charged With Sexual Harassment

Bishop Mitchell Taylor

An embattled member of the police watchdog Civilian Complaint Review Board — already under fire for allegedly sexually harassing female staffers — has been accused of inappropriately touching another co-worker while on a business trip to New Orleans, new court filings claim.
Bishop Mitchell Taylor allegedly got so intoxicated bar hopping with other city employees while attending a September 2011 conference that he doggedly made the moves on Lisa Cohen, now the CCRB’s director of mediation, by repeatedly touching her “inappropriate[ly]” despite her “disapproval,” including rubbing her back and putting his arms around her “upper body and shoulder.”

Distinction Between Speech And Acts, as Sexual Harassment

Academics appear unable to distinguish between speech and acts. Some think of speech as rape. If rape should be taught at the law school why not teach disability law? Too many abuses of speech and acts toward persons with disabilities, are over looked due to ignorance and bias of today's lawyers, students and faculty. Why are some vulnerable persons more deserving than others? Does Title IX not apply to disability?

Horny South Carolina Gentlewoman Pulls Gun On Man Who Refused To Have Sex With Her

Michelle Smart

[From article]
Ryan Rucker, 33, was sleeping early yesterday when Michelle Smart, by her own admission, “attempted to make some sexual advances toward” him, according to a police report detailing the 2 AM incident.
Rucker told cops that he pushed the 30-year-old Smart off of him, which prompted an argument during which Smart “told him she would shoot him because she has the gun.” Smart told officers that after Rucker “rejected her and pushed her off of him,” he punched and kicked her multiple times.

Feminist Aborts Child Because He is Male

There are a lot of these women in Cambridge, MA, who are hateful and hostile. They harass men due to misguided stereotyping.

[From article]
The “cause,” in her mind, is feminism. Soon after, she went to the doctor and was told that she was pregnant with a boy. Her immediate response, she writes, was “my body had betrayed me even worse than the misogynistic suit jockey on the airplane so many months before. I was in shock, I started crying, weeping at the thought of what I was about to curse the world with.”
Over the course of several days, she decided that she could not bring another male into this world. She explains, “I couldn’t bring another monster into the world. We already have enough enemies as it is.
“I knew what I had to do,” she adds.
Lana writes that she has no regrets for what she did and was “happy” that she did something “positive,” explaining, “It went off without a hitch. My body’s betrayal was no more, I was free, and for the first time since the airplane incident, I felt strong. I had done something positive, something that would actually make a difference, something good, even though as I would find out, many others wouldn’t see it that way.”
She continues later, “I stand by my decision to abort my baby because it was a male.” And if she is ever pregnant with a boy once more, “I would do the exact same thing all over again.”

NJ Woman Police Recruit Sues NY-NJ Port Authority Police, Alleges Sex Harassment

Amanda Holley says she was sexually harassed by her Port Authority bosses while training as a police recruit.
Photo: Facebook

[From article]
Holley, of Jackson Township, NJ, said her bosses singled her out as soon as she began training at the Jersey City academy in August 2013, and the sexual harassment didn’t end until she was fired four months later.
Torres would make her perform squat thrusts in front of the entire platoon, the suit says.
[. . .]
The trainee said she was forced out in December 2013 — several weeks after she had refused to resign at a supervisor’s behest after failing a firearms course.
Holley felt that she was never given the one-on-one instruction other female trainees received, according to the suit.
Before eyeing a position in law enforcement, Holley was a social worker with the New Jersey Department of Corrections — and she claims her boss used that job against her, the lawsuit states.

Colorado University Sex Scandal Reveals Problems With US Educators Impersonating Police and Judges

[From article]
CU-Boulder has essentially declared not only that the accused does not enjoy the presumption of innocence, but that defending the accused's innocence amounts to sexual harassment.  How exactly the accused can receive a fair hearing in such an environment remains a mystery.
At this point it should be pointed out that false rape claims are far more prevalent than people think.  Feminists like to claim that only a negligible number of rape allegations are false (2-8%), but the number of allegations recanted, along with the number of allegations not resulting in charges, indicates a much larger portion.
[. . .]
Whatever problems exist within the legal system, this case illustrates why schools have no business adjudicating sexual assault claims.  Had this case been tried in a court of law, we would be able to assess the charges in light of the evidence.  In the present situation, we have no idea what was alleged, what evidence was presented, or the exact nature of the statute. [. . .]  The effort to adjudicate sexual assault allegations in makeshift tribunals will not end happily.

Dartmouth College Woman Student Harassed By Stalker, Wants Pistol License For Campus

[From article]
But as happens so often when crime victims speak out, others second guess their behavior. Unfortunately, last Thursday, Geraldo Rivera did just that on Fox News. Let's look at a few of his statements:
- Geraldo said that the threat against Taylor doesn't justify her getting a gun for protection: "...he is unable to make his bail, so he is in custody, and he is facing an almost certain four year sentence upon conviction."
- Geraldo seems to have confused the fact that her stalker has not yet posted bail with his inability to do so. Her stalker has hired one of the very best defense lawyers in San Diego county, and apparently, has been able to post a large retainer of hundreds of thousands of dollars.
His bail is currently set at $300,000, which means that all he has to do is put up $30,000. It appears pretty clear that he has the resources to do that.
Not wanting to depend on the court system to quickly inform her if the stalker posts bail, Taylor calls up every day to make sure that he is still in jail.
There is no way that the stalker is going to spend four years in prison. Indeed, the prosecutor has told Taylor that because of prison overcrowding in California and the possibility that his sentence could be reduced due to good behavior, the stalker won't be spending more than eight months in jail. The two months he has already been in jail will count towards that total. That means that he will likely be released in the middle of the upcoming school year.

College Officials Censor Speech Using Irrational Standards

[From article]
“As one commentator noted already, this is ‘reminiscent of Alice in Wonderland’s ‘sentence first, verdict afterwards,’” the letter says.
“But a mere investigation into clearly protected activity violates the Constitution. … The agreement requires UM and other universities to violate students’ due process.”
WND reported the May 9 guidance from the U.S. Department of Education was understood to mean that every flirtation on a college campus in America and every request to go out on a date could be considered sexual harassment.
The federal government then tried to explain away the controversy.
The department advisory apparently eliminated the standard of whether a “reasonable person” would consider certain actions harassment. It explained that any comment, action, insinuation or implication would be harassment if it were unwanted.
The advisory also warned that the school’s sexual harassment policy “improperly suggests that the conduct does not constitute sexual harassment unless it is objectively offensive.”

This story was featured on ABC News 20/20 on Friday March 29, 2013. The gentleman was not being watched by any law enforcement agency, no crime family, no Communists. He conducted his affair and humiliation of the DC woman and then his wife with no interference from any of those organizations. He was not a person of interest or a suspect in any crime. But in Cambridge MA local, police, crime families, criminals in the witness protection program, (now called WITness SECurity) Communists, Harvard University campus police take turns conducting a relentless campaign of harassment, sleep deprivation, surveillance, character assassination, provocations, threats, ridicule, humiliation, of a 70-year-old white male who they say has a legal disability. Attempts to cause a stroke or heart attack are regular occurrences from these depraved officials. Is there a distortion of priorities by the misguided appointees of the clueless and spineless politicians?
