Ivy League Statistics on Campus Sex Offenses

One comment questioned statistics.

It should be noted that Harvard's 2012 student enrollment (according to Google) was over 28,000. Yale's (again, according to Google) was just shy of 12,000. This means that Harvard's PER STUDENT sexual offense rate (using rounded figures) was 1 per 700 students. Yale's was 1 offense per 375 students. Let's be wary of how data can be used to manipulate truths.

My reply to above comment was deleted without noting that it was deleted. Editors note other deleted comments saying "This comment was deleted." No entry for my reply, which asked if the wariness "of how data can be used to manipulate truths" should be applied to Provost Steven Hyman's statistics about rape on Harvard University's campus.

[From article]
Forty instances of forced sexual contact on or near campus were reported to the Harvard University Police Department and other local law enforcement in 2013, five more than any other Ivy League school, according to the department's Annual Security Report released last week.
[. . .]
The report is federally mandated by the Clery Act, passed in 1965, which requires that colleges publish annual crime and fire safety statistics.

Ivy League Students Driven By Material Success Standards

[from article]
William Deresiewicz, who taught at Yale for 10 years until 2008, thinks these students are, in a moral and spiritual sense, lost. They’re accomplished networkers who have no friends. They’re super-intelligent but have no clue. In online postings and in conversations with the author, they say that they’re forlorn, depressed, anxious, so busy studying that they never get a chance to think.
[. . .]
In 1971, Deresiewicz notes, 73 percent of incoming college freshmen said it was important to develop a meaningful philosophy and only 37 percent deemed it important to be “very well-off.”
By 2011, those figures were reversed: 47 percent for the former and 80 percent for the latter.
So it isn’t college that is causing the craving for wealth. As a society, we tend to mistake money and status for happiness, to overestimate the correlation between income and satisfaction. If our ablest young people go for the gold, it isn’t an educational problem.
It’s a cultural one.

Unregistered Russian Agents Love the Ivy League

One unregistered Russian agent got an MA degree from Harvard's Kennedy School of Government. Another attended Columbia University's Business School. Obama got degrees from both Universities. Is that anything other than coincidence? Expecting the FBI to find espionage agents is like expecting the MA AG ("In Massachusetts technically, it is not illegal to be illegal.") to prosecute criminal acts by MA public officials. The Boston FBI is too busy framing local Italian Americans who don't pay rent to their Irish informants. The US Dept. of Justice protects the dirt-bagger FBI in Boston by not paying a US District Court order to compensate four white men framed by the FBI for murder 35 years ago. Selective enforcement of laws is all the rage under the Hope and Change President.

Showing Dirty Laundry

"As for Barack, he behaves on the world stage like some Ivy League kid ashamed of the people he came from, letting one and all on campus know that he is nothing like his benighted family with its sordid history."

Best Wishes?

Best Wishes?

Gratefully Richard Griffin omitted tolerance for diversity of ideas from his wish list. Wouldn't want to go like totally negative, you know what I'm talking about Paul Tillich? Blessed is he who continues to bash Bush with only three weeks left in his term. How many more years will Bush and Romney get the blame for the incompetent and corrupt state and US legislatures? [From Thomas Sowell] 'People who are impressed by how many of Barack Obama's advisers have Ivy League degrees seem not to remember how many people with Ivy League degrees mismanaged the Vietnam War and how many people with Ivy League degrees mismanaged economic policy during the depression.' Gov. Palin scares limousine liberals more than Reagan did. She is a reformer, the most hated politician among corrupt liberals. 'Ronald Reagan had a vision of America. Barack Obama has a vision of Barack Obama.' Happy New Year!
