Private School Teacher Accused of Rape, Hired By New York City Department of Education

Rodney Alejandro

[From article]
A former Queens biology teacher who allegedly forced an underage student to repeatedly have sex and demanded she have two abortions skirted authorities after a prominent Catholic school quietly fired him, allowing him to work for years in city public schools, officials report.Modal TriggerRodney Alejandro
Rodney Alejandro abused the 15-year-old girl at St. Francis Preparatory School in Queens, and then went on to work for the Department of Education, a 2015 probe by the city’s Special Commissioner of Investigation charges.
First a city substitute in 1998-99, he worked from 2004 to 2010 at Robert Wagner Jr. Secondary School for Arts and Technology in Long Island City and was fired after his state license expired, officials said. He then went on to teach at a religious school in Georgia.
His reported victim, now 43 and living in Queens, declined to comment but confirmed to The Post horrendous details she published in a 2014 blog. The Post is withholding her name.
Alejandro, now 52, allegedly began raping the girl in January 1988.
By the summer of 1988, she got pregnant for the first time and she says “Alejandro forced her to have an abortion,” the SCI reports.
When she got pregnant again in January 1989, “Alejandro insisted upon an abortion,” the report says. The student says she became so depressed that she failed the school year.
“At this point, I was suicidal,” she wrote.
St. Francis Prep never disciplined Alejandro. Instead he “resigned and left the school in good standing,” the SCI found.

Cambridge MA Teacher Arrested For Assaulting a Policeman While Enebriated

Susan McGlennon, Cambridge Art Academy

[From article]
A Cambridge elementary school teacher has been put on paid administrative leave after she was arrested for allegedly assaulting a police officer while drunk at The Abbey restaurant and bar last Friday, according to officials.
Susan McGlennon, a second-grade teacher at Graham and Parks Elementary School, was arrested on April 29 around 9:26 p.m. on the charges of disorderly conduct and assault and battery of a police officer.
McGlennon was reportedly “screaming profanities” and acting in a manner that caused people to pause and watch, according to documents obtained from Cambridge District Court. After refusing to leave, McGlennon allegedly hit officer Christopher Ahern, of the Cambridge Police Department, in the chest with her right hand.
Superintendent of Cambridge Public Schools Jeffrey Young sent a letter to parents and teachers on Tuesday, notifying them that a Graham and Parks teacher was the focus of a news story relating to a non-work-related incident over the weekend, and has been placed on administrative leave pending the investigation and outcome.
“Arrangements are being made to ensure continuity in instruction for the students in this class,” Young wrote.
[. . .]
McGlennon was released on $40 bail on April 30. Under the conditions of her release, McGlennon has been banned from The Abbey restaurant at 1775 Massachusetts Ave. and must abstain from consuming alcohol.

How To Improve Learning in Public Schools

[From article]
Anew study in the New England Journal of Medicine has a surprising conclusion. It finds that over the past decade, 1 percent of physicians accounted for 32 percent of malpractice claims. In other words, health care providers could eliminate one-third of malpractice and its associated health, legal and economic costs by removing the worst 1 percent of doctors.
It’s called the “law of the vital few” — better known as the 80/20 rule. It states that a disproportionate impact comes from a small input. Eighty-four percent of total income tax payments, for instance, are paid by 20 percent of earners. And more than two-thirds of all drunken-driving fatalities are caused by the tiny fraction of drivers with at least a 0.15 blood-alcohol level (the hard-core drunk drivers).
[. . .]
Perhaps nowhere is this rule more apparent than in the U.S. education system. Education economist Erik Hanushek has found that a small percentage of teachers are responsible for virtually all of the United States’ poor global education ranking. (U.S. students score worse on international tests than students from countries like Vietnam, Poland and Latvia.)
According to Mr. Hanushek, replacing the bottom 5-8 percent of teachers with average teachers could move the United States near the top of international education rankings.
[. . .]
It’s said that there are three ways people leave a job: some quit, others are fired, and some quit and stay. It is this last group that is most troublesome in any workplace. To solve this youth unemployment crisis and its associated ramifications, teachers who quit and stay must be fired.
But it’s easier said than done. Militant teachers unions like the American Federation of Teachers led by Randi Weingarten make it virtually impossible to fire the worst teachers. Less than 0.1 percent of teachers are fired each year in major districts nationwide. As a colleague of hers once said, “Randi Weingarten would protect a dead body in the classroom. That’s her job.”
The single most effective reform to make it easier to fire ineffective teachers is ending tenure, which virtually guarantees teachers jobs for life after as little as two years in the classroom.

Elementary School Teacher Convicted of 40 Sexual Assaults on Students

 Matthew Rausenberg, 40

[From article]
A former central Ohio elementary school teacher who a prosecutor said preyed on “girls who had divorced parents” was found guilty of more than 40 charges involving the sexual assaults of several students.
Matthew Rausenberg, 40, was convicted Monday in Delaware County of 34 counts of gross sexual imposition, four counts of kidnapping and three counts of pandering sexually oriented materials.
[. . .]
Rausenberg resigned from Arrowhead Elementary School in Lewis Center, north of Columbus, after his March arrest. The allegations against the former second- and third-grade teacher date back to 2006.
Delaware County Prosecutor Carol O’Brien said he assaulted young female students who “wouldn’t make a fuss” and filmed himself groping and molesting a second-grader after she told him to stop.
“He picked on girls who had divorced parents,” O’Brien said. “He picked on girls who were anxious, who were shy, who were new to the community.”
[. . .]
“For six years they did nothing,” he said.
An expert witness testified earlier that sexual assault victims often don’t initially tell anyone and have trouble understanding what happened to them, the Columbus Dispatch reported.
Rausenberg is facing up to life in prison at his sentencing on Thursday.

Outrageous Baltimore Black on White Violence

[From article]
In December the Baltimore Sun ran a glowing portrait of Marin Alsop, the symphony conductor who had recently explained to the BBC that riots in Baltimore were necessary because racist white people did not listen to black people.
[. . .]
In a story about Alsop, I mentioned the many performers around the country who are victims of black violence, including Peter Marvit of Baltimore. Soon after, I received an email from one of Peter’s friends, John Bosma:
I was a friend of Peter Marvit -- a fellow tenor, we sat with each other at the rehearsal he attended 30 minutes before he was attacked on his front porch, shot six times in the head and neck, and died in the arms of his neighbor.
[. . .]
Peter had started -- on his own nickel -- a program for poor black kids to learn music, dance and the arts. He spent a lot of time and talent on it.
[. . .]

I recently moved to the Pacific Northwest from Baltimore. What partly impelled the move was being beaten up by a black guy who I had grappled with and held down after he was chasing his girlfriend with a baseball bat.
His GF and another woman went nuts, beating me as he and I grappled on the ground with me holding the bat with both arms. To shut them up, I stupidly rolled the bat away and let him get up. He promptly decked me, kicked the hell out of my head (concussion and bleeding). I was very lucky.
He was released on PR 1 hr after being booked. It took me 5-6 court appearances to get him a 3-yr suspended sentence.
[. . .]

A woman friend from India, with two science degrees and teaching at what is supposed to be one of Baltimore's top middle schools, tells me her kids call her every filthy name in the book with impunity.
When one boy snarled she should go back to India, she told him that under his argument he should go back to Africa. That cost her a disciplinary inquiry for 'racism'. She was also hauled in for suspected 'racism' when she used the technical term "negate" in her class -- and a black girl took it as an epithet and brought her hell-raising mother to school to confront her in the principal's office.
That's how racially hair-triggered the schools are. Her students have stolen her phone, stood around laughing and jeering when she fell on a chair and broke her ribs, refusing to help her or get help... her blood pressure has shot up to danger levels but the school refuses to discipline any black students who raise hell in class

Cambridge, MA Teacher Laments Testing Mandates From Feds

Waste of taxpayer funds and misguided priorities extend to several federal bureaucracies, including but not limited to the US Department of Education. The same can be said about state and local bureaucracies. But the school committee has the final authority if they are able to assert their statutory power. All too often local officials yield to state and federal officials due to the desire to receive funds otherwise unavailable or withheld. Spines are seldom found among elected officials who focus on getting re-elected rather than doing what is best for students and taxpayers. Still no mention of the role teacher unions play in making school policy. Award winning teacher John Taylor Gatto, has some ideas in his book, Dumbing Us Down.

Cambridge, MA Teacher Opposes Misguided Priorities

Rose Levine with students

This teacher expresses a rational observation about imposing tests on local schools by government bureaucrats. There is no transparency who decided to limit the choices to two tests, and no option to eliminate them. Recall the scandal in Atlanta where administrators went to prison for altering test results to cover-up poor statistics. No mention of the role of teacher unions in this process. See e.g., award winning teacher John Taylor Gatto's book, Dumbing Us Down.

Muslim State Schools Teach Hatred Toward Jews, Americans and Israel

[From article]
Western logic often believes that the majority of Islamic terrorists were originally born in a moderate Islamic culture, but somewhere along the way, some specific unpopular education or inspiration was dropped on them by a few bad apple jihadists (who are not true Muslims) and turned them into terrorists.
But that is not how Muslim jihadists are created. To be born and raised in a majority Islamic society, one cannot avoid but interacting daily with radical and jihadist views and hate indoctrination. In fact, at least until very recently, those who refuse to do jihad are considered infidels. Even the minority Christian population in Egypt was forced to participate in all the jihadist wars against Israel, or else they would be considered traitors.
The Muslim world was subjected to an electric shock in their mainstream jihadist education after 9/11, when the West started questioning their sacred cow of jihad. But as usual, Muslims who are commanded to lie for the sake of Islam’s reputation had to explain that jihad means an inner struggle and not killing and torturing non-Muslims in Islam’s holy agenda to control the world. Today, the Muslim world is in turmoil and even internal war, because they don’t know how to explain to the West the truth about what they learned over centuries as their pride and centerpiece of their religious education: jihad.

To answer the question of who radicalized the terrorists, the answer is that the whole culture of Islam has constantly radicalized terrorists. Perfectly healthy young men and women were driven by a cruel totalitarian ideology to do the unthinkable in the eyes of the world: they are driven to hate their lives, hate humanity, and abandon their kids for the sake of terrorizing non-Muslims, expanding Islam, and bringing the whole world under a glorious Islamic Caliphate.
[. . .]
But luckily, even though Arab and Muslim kids were subjected to intense jihadist education, not all became terrorists, even though many sympathize with the jihadist ideology and defend it. I was personally asked at age 8 by the president of Egypt at the time, Gamel Abdel Nasser, when he and his entourage asked me and my siblings: “Which one of you will avenge your father’s death by killing Jews”. My siblings and I were speechless, but the question troubled my young mind for many years. It made me feel that since I didn’t want to kill anyone, then could that mean I did not love my father?
There is no escape from the Islamic hate and jihad indoctrination if one lives in the Muslim world. We were all subjected to Islamic hate indoctrination just by hearing mosque preaching and reading Quran commandments to “fight in His cause, and slay and be slain.”
[. . .]
It is also true that not everyone subjected to Islamic radicalization ends up a radical. In fact, it is nothing short of a miracle that in spite of the intense Islamic jihad culture, the majority of Muslims are not terrorists or active jihadists. http://pamelageller.com/2015/12/nonie-darwish-where-were-the-terrorists-radicalized.html/

Abuse of Disability Laws By Defense Lawyers in Homicide Trial

Colleen Ritzer, 24, popular Danvers, MA high school teacher, brutally slain by one of her students, who was 14 at the time.

Two outrageous implications of this man's testimony. One is that mental illnesses--speech and behavior which psychiatrists do not like or do not understand--are hereditary. Where is there evidence of such nonsense. The second part is suggesting there is a causal connection between mental illness, crime and violence. More pure nonsense. Would any testimony that black people are more violent and stupid than others be allowed or reported in newspapers? Lawyers, judges and courts perpetuate this negative stereotyping of persons with disabilities. More exploitation by criminal defense lawyers of laws intended to protect disabled persons from abuse.

[From article]
Philip Chism’s family has a history of mental illness, the teen’s maternal grandfather testified yesterday — marking the first time one of the former high school sophomore’s relatives took the stand in the murder and rape trial of a popular Danvers High School math teacher.
Eduardo Barbieri of Pompano Beach, Fla., said his ex-wife, Chism’s grandmother, was treated with shock therapy at a Salem hospital in 1975 after suffering a mental breakdown.
“She had a nervous breakdown. ... She had shock treatment, not only once, but many times,” Barbieri said on the witness stand in Essex Sup
erior Court, where he referred to Chism as “my beloved grandson.”
Barbieri went on to testify that one of his daughters, Chism’s aunt, also suffered mental breakdowns that required treatment at psychiatric hospitals.
“I would say the same thing as my ex-wife,” Barbieri said of Chism’s aunt. “The same type of problem. She couldn’t handle anything.”
The testimony from Barbieri, Chism’s defense team’s first witness, was aimed at convincing jurors Chism was insane during the slaying of 24-year-old Colleen Ritzer, who was killed

A Jewish history teacher has been stabbed on a street in the southern French city of Marseille by three men who professed their support for ISIS.
The men, who were riding on two scooters, with one wearing an ISIS T-shirt, approached the teacher, named tonight as Tziyon Saadon.
The 57-year-old victim, who was wearing a kippa, was attacked outside his home, a short distance from the school and synagogue complex, a source close to the investigation said.

The Taunton Daily Gazette (http://bit.ly/1L3NLXA ) reports that 36-year-old Patrick Doyle, of Seekonk, entered the plea Tuesday in Bristol Superior Court to two counts of rape of a child and two counts of disseminating harmful material to a minor.
Prosecutors said Doyle engaged in sexual acts with the girls on separate occasions at his home and an empty classroom at Taunton High School in 2012.
Police said he "sexted" an explicit photo to one girl and sent sexually suggestive text messages.

The dead women were identified as Hindy Spira, 27, and Raizel Morgenstern, 24, who were on a weeklong vacation in the rugged wilderness with two other Brooklyn teachers, Miriam Meyer and Suri Mayerovitz, 26, cops said.
Their rented Jeep Cherokee was broadsided by a tractor-trailer near Holbrook around 11:30 p.m. after turning into its path, police Lt. Jack Arend told The Post on Tuesday.
[. . .]
Spira taught at the Bais Yaakov School in Brooklyn. Mayerovitz also teaches at Bais Yaakov. Morgenstern’s and Meyer’s schools were not known.
A fellow teacher who declined to give her name said Spira “was really sweet, very organized and capable.
“She ran the after-school program; she was very energetic. Her students loved her and her songs.”

Are Teachers Waking Up To The Abuses of Their Unions?

Are In-The-Bag-For-Hillary union leaders worried about Bernie Sanders?

[From article]
For a union built on democracy, activist teachers are wondering how the American Federation of Teachers could have possibly endorsed Hillary Clinton for president without them knowing about it.
Candi Peterson, Washington (D.C.) Teachers’ Union, pennedan article at Common Dreams in which several die-hard union activists appeared to be utterly befuddled by the national union’s sudden announcement.
Chicago activist Katie Osgood says, “I know many AFT members too and have not heard one person polled either.” The union claimed it polled members on their opinions.
According to the calculation of “Mr. Stevens,” only .04 percent of members were surveyed.

Illinois Teacher Fired For Stomping on US Flag In Class

[From article]
The teacher this time is Jordan Parmenter. Until the other day, he had been an employee of the school district in Martinsville, Ill., a tiny rural town (pop. 1,167).
On Thursday, the Martinsville school board voted 6-0 to sack Parmenter, reports the Journal Gazette & Times-Courier, a local newspaper.
The dismissal became effective immediately.
[. . .]
The school board had previously placed Parmenter on administrative leave after he stomped on a U.S. flag in class during a May 15 incident at the Martinsville Junior-Senior High School.
Students say he was using the American flag as a pointer. When a student suggested that this use of Old Glory could be viewed as disrespectful, Parmenter got really mad, students said. He dropped the flag on the floor and intentionally stepped right on it.

NYC Teachers Fail Teacher's Exams, Judge Says Tests Are Racist

[From article]
One sample question from the test asked prospective educators to identify the mathematical principle of a linear relationship when given four examples; another asked them to read four passages from the Constitution and identify which illustrated checks and balances. Besides factual knowledge, the test also checks basic academic skills, such as reading comprehension and the ability to read basic charts and graphs.
Nevertheless, this apparently neutral subject matter contained an insidious kernel of racism, because Hispanic and black applicants had a passage rate only 54 to 75 percent of the passage rate for whites.
[. . .]
Minorities who failed the exam (who number in the thousands) may be owed years of back pay totaling millions of dollars, and those who were relegated to substitute teaching jobs could be promoted to having their own classrooms. In addition, while Wood’s ruling only applies to New York City, the test was used statewide, and it could serve as a precedent for further lawsuits.
The ruling could also pave the way for another ruling finding New York’s current teacher test, the Academic Literacy Skills Test (ALST), to be discriminatory as well. That test is even harder than LAST-2, with a strong focus on literacy skills such as writing and reading comprehension, and like LAST-2 it has a very large gap in scores between whites and minorities. A lawsuit, once again being heard by Wood, is already pending, with the plaintiffs arguing that there is no clear evidence strong literacy skills are essential for a teacher.

Updated: Misguided Diversity Consultants Create Classroom Chaos, Blame White Privilege

Posted June 2, 2015 8:50 PM ET; Last updated June 4, 2015 8:59 PM ET

[From article]
St. Paul faced a problem with minority violence in its school. What to do? The answer: pay a consultant $3 million to teach about White racism.
[. . .]
PEG says concepts like hard work and planning for the future are traits of “white culture,” and implies that minority students cannot be expected to respond to a curriculum based on those values. They say black culture is more in tune with “collectivism,” presumably the type applied in Cuba or North Korea.
According to PEG, white culture is based on “white individualism” or “white traits” like “rugged individualism,” “adherence to rigid time schedules,” “plan(ning) for the future,” and the idea that “hard work is the key to success.”
[. . .]
You know, if a conservative said that "showing up on time" or "working hard" is a White trait, he'd be branded a racist. But when a leftist group like PEG does it, it somehow becomes progressive. What else would you expect from an ideology which conflates peanut butter and jelly sandwiches with racial identity?

Schools solve problem of minority violence by teaching about White racism
By Newsmachete

[From article]
Have the taxpayers of St. Paul spent nearly $3 million over the past five years to bring chaos and danger to their schools and students?
Apparently so.
In 2010, the St. Paul school district began a contractual relationship with the Pacific Educational Group, a San Francisco-based organization that tries to help public schools deal with achievement and disciplinary issues involving black students.
PEG packages and sells the concept of victimization, for a very high price.
It claims that the American education system is built around white culture, tradition and social norms – aka “white privilege” – to the unfair detriment of black students.
PEG believes that black students will only achieve if school curricula are customized to meet their cultural specifications. It also rejects the concept of using suspensions or expulsions to discipline black students.
[. . .]
Student suspensions were replaced by “time outs,” and school officials starting forgiving or ignoring violence and other unacceptable behavior, according to various sources.
[. . .]
The result has been general chaos throughout the district, with far too many students out of control because they know there are no real consequences for their actions.
[. . .]
“Last spring, when she stepped into a fight between two basketball players, one grabbed her shoulder and head, throwing her aside,” the CityPages article explained. “The kid was only sent home for a couple of days.
“In March, when a student barged into her class, McQueen happened to be standing in the doorway and got crushed into a shelf. The following week, two boys came storming in, hit a girl in the head, then skipped back out. One of them had already been written up more than 30 times.
“Yet another student who repeatedly drops into her class has hit kids and cursed at an aide, once telling McQueen he would “fry” her ass. She tried to make a joke of it — ‘Ooh, I could use a little weight loss.’ Her students interjected: ‘No, that means he’s gonna kill you.'”
[. . .]
several teachers, who asked to remain anonymous, describe anything but a learning environment. Students run up and down the hallways, slamming lockers and tearing posters off the walls. They hit and swear at each other, upend garbage cans under teachers’ noses.
Nine teachers at Ramsey Middle School have quit since the beginning of this school year. Some left for other districts. Others couldn’t withstand the escalating anarchy.
In mid-April, staff at Battle Creek Elementary penned a letter to their principal over “concerns about building wide safety, both physical and emotional, as well as the deteriorating learning environment.”
[. . .]
Will officials continue to waste taxpayer dollars on an organization that pushes policies that destroy any hope for creating or maintaining a productive learning environment?
As one recently published story on better-ed.org put it, “Given the recent (and probably ongoing) turmoil in St. Paul Public Schools, it’s time to ask questions about Pacific Educational Group.”

Arlington, MA Substitute Teacher Charged With Rape of Student

Martin was working as a substitute teacher at Ottoson Middle School in Arlington when he met the teenager, police said. He resigned voluntarily in June 2013, said schools Superintendent Kathleen Bodie.
Martin arranged to meet the victim in January 2014, luring her to a parking lot using a mobile phone-based social media service where he raped her then dropped her off at a nearby restaurant, cops said.
“We are not aware of any other inappropriate conduct involving any other children,” Brodie said, “and we have no reason to believe that any other children were affected.”

Columnist Objects to Skepticism

Standardized tests, i.e., Common Core, are not "settled established norms." Testing teachers is also relatively new. If Goodwin's thesis was true, Noam Chomsky would be on network news every day. He is still marginalized, while Kennedy family celebrities get national recognition for misguided policies. Does Goodwin mistake opposition for radicalism? Has conformity become the default position on all matters?

[From article]
Ideas that only recently were relegated to the fringes are now going mainstream. And policies that were settled, established norms are under vicious assault. Here’s the real shocker: The radicals are not limited to Occupy Wall Street and other anarchists demonstrating against cops, capitalism and all authority. Instead, respected public figures and government officials who would normally defend the establishment are leading the charge against it. [. . .] The San Jose Mercury News found that 87 percent of kindergartners at the wealthy Berkeley Rose School had vaccine exemptions because the parents believed in “more alternative health care,” according to a school spokesman. The school, where half-day kindergarten costs nearly $12,000 a year, says it offers “judgment-free” education. Children handwrite their own textbooks, learn to knit in first grade and, despite its proximity to Silicon Valley, the school features an anti-tech culture that emphasizes experience over facts. No kidding.

A teacher was allegedly attacked by a parent in the hall of a Long Island middle school — and in a disturbing surveillance photo can be seen knocked out cold.
Teacher Catherine Engelhardt was pummeled by a parent and a 14-year-old at the Alverta B. Gray Schultz Middle School in Hempsted Wednesday, police said.
“It’s not like I thought a parent would do something, but I knew something violent was going to happen,” Engelhardt told WABC/Channel 7 from her home.
“I’ve warned them time and again that the children have no respect for adults. Yes, I fear for my safety. They can’t control the kids.”
Irate mom Annika McKenzie allegedly pushed her way past security at the middle school to confront Engelhardt.
McKenzie was angry about an incident earlier in the day in which she claimed the teacher grabbed her 12-year-old daughter.

She allegedly put the teacher in a chokehold, shoved her into a wall and decked her, Channel 7 said.
Then some kids, including McKenzie’s daughter and 14-year-old niece, allegedly started kicking the teacher, the report said.
Engelhardt was taken to Winthrop University Hospital and later released.
McKenzie was arrested and charged with felony strangulation and assault.
The 14-year-old girl was charged with assault, police sources said.
