Illinois Campus Police Stop Free Speech Advocates

College of DuPage is in Illinois

[From article]
Several students at the College of DuPage were told to cease or be "locked up" Friday as they attempted to collect signatures for a petition urging the school to improve its free speech policies.
The two students, along with an advisor from Turning Point USA who was helping them organize a chapter at DuPage, were on campus inviting passersby to sign up for the club and/or sign the petition—and were also distributing pocket Constitutions and non-partisan flyers stating “America is a free speech zone”—when they were approached by campus police.
[. . .]
Most of Friday’s altercation was caught on video and shared with Campus Reform. The video begins with the conversation already in progress, as the group is questioning the officer about why they are not allowed to do what they are doing.
Enders asks the officer, "[w]hat are the rules for doing this kind of stuff on campus?"

"You go to the Student Life office, and they give you a permit to do so," the officer replies.
"So you need a permit to ..."
"Yeah, because you can’t have everybody out here doing this," the officer tells him. "Otherwise you’d have stuff lined up all along here, everybody having a different view and a different point, so you can’t do that."
Kara Hamilton, the TPUSA representative, then presses the point, asking, "So, like, free speech ...?"
"It’s not free speech, ma’am," the officer informs her. "Nobody’s stopping you from free speech, but you can’t solicit out here, and basically you are—you’re soliciting your opinions. Okay? And you need to go get a permit."
"Is it a commodity in any way?" Enders interjects. "Is speech a commodity?"
"Well, you’re handing out pamphlets and stuff like that, so that’s exactly what it would mean," the officer responds.
When asked for more info about the permit process, the officer then appears to become somewhat exasperated, and exclaims, "[w]hy don’t you go talk to Student Life? But you can’t do it out here, otherwise I’m going to have to lock you up. I don’t want it to come to that; like I said, I want you to go in to Student Life."
The discussion then turns to the exact nature of the violation, as the group wonders if all or just part of their activity was causing problems, and when the officer mentions that they were distributing literature, a student bystander remarks, "I asked for it, though."
"They’re soliciting it," the officer corrects him. "I mean, you approached them because they were here doing it. If they weren’t here, you wouldn’t have approached them."
The group prepared to concede the dispute and take the issue up with the Student Life office, located in the adjacent building. The video ends at that point, but multiple eyewitnesses have told Campus Reform that the altercation did not.
"One student [Enders] was holding an American flag and when they were going to leave and go inside the officer told him that he could not bring the flag into the school," said Mason Zeri, one of two students who had stopped to sign the group's petition when the officer approached.[. . .]
“You can’t solicit an opinion,” he remarked forcefully. “An opinion is speech.”

Republican Illinois Governor Fights Democrats For Fiscal Integrity

[From article]
Rauner, 58, won his first elective office by promising to change Illinois's political culture of one-party rule by entrenched politicians subservient to public-sector unions. This culture's consequences include:
After more than a dozen credit-rating downgrades in five years, Illinois has the lowest rating among the states. Unfunded public employees' pension liabilities are estimated, perhaps conservatively, at $111 billion, the nation's largest such deficit as a percentage of state revenue. Currently, public pensions consume nearly 25 percent of general state revenues. The state owes vendors $6.4 billion in unpaid bills, and more than 1 million people have left Illinois for less dysfunctional states in the last 15 years. Debt per resident is about $24,989, compared with $7,094 in neighboring Indiana.
[. . .]
Four of the previous nine governors went to prison, so, Rauner says, "people know we've had bad people in charge." Bad but routine practices are astonishing.
[. . .]
Rauner says previous governors from both parties have been complicit in the unionization of about 93 percent of government employees.
[. . .]
Rauner hopes to ban, as some states do, public employees unions from making political contributions, whereby they elect the employers with whom they negotiate their compensation. Rauner notes that an owner of a small firm that does business with Illinois's government is forbidden to make political contributions.
[. . .]
Democrats have veto-proof majorities in both houses of the legislature, and redistricting has entrenched incumbents. Democrats do, however, fear being challenged in primaries by unions punishing anyone disobedient.
[. . .]
An Illinois governor (Adlai Stevenson) once said, "Cleanliness is next to godliness, except in the Illinois legislature, where it is next to impossible."

Illinois Teacher Fired For Stomping on US Flag In Class

[From article]
The teacher this time is Jordan Parmenter. Until the other day, he had been an employee of the school district in Martinsville, Ill., a tiny rural town (pop. 1,167).
On Thursday, the Martinsville school board voted 6-0 to sack Parmenter, reports the Journal Gazette & Times-Courier, a local newspaper.
The dismissal became effective immediately.
[. . .]
The school board had previously placed Parmenter on administrative leave after he stomped on a U.S. flag in class during a May 15 incident at the Martinsville Junior-Senior High School.
Students say he was using the American flag as a pointer. When a student suggested that this use of Old Glory could be viewed as disrespectful, Parmenter got really mad, students said. He dropped the flag on the floor and intentionally stepped right on it.

Chicago Mayor Lost His Way, Voters Too

[From article]
Emanuel’s Chicago has regularly been cited for innovation in the use of technology and data in government.
[. . .]
During the “lost decade” of the 2000s, Chicago saw more than 200,000 residents head for the exits. The Loop shed 18.6 percent of its private-sector jobs; the Chicagoland region lost more than 300,000 jobs. Debt soared.
[. . .]
Chicago can be seen, Saunders suggests, as “one-third San Francisco, two-thirds Detroit.”
[. . .]
Chicago is also uniquely burdened among major American cities by its twin deficits. Both the state of Illinois and the city of Chicago are in dire financial condition. Illinois’s unfunded pension liability stands at $111 billion. It owes another $56 billion in unfunded retiree health-care obligations. Chicago itself faces $35 billion in unfunded pension liabilities. The total liability for all local government obligations adds up to as much as $83,000 per household.
[. . .]
It’s a one-party town, and anyone who challenges the party line risks excommunication. Chicagoans don’t understand the city’s position because no one has explained it to them. Bathed in a nonstop stream of civic pronouncements about their amazingly awesome global city, many residents think Chicago is just like London, New York, and San Francisco.
[. . .]
He manages the local media with Washington-style spin control. He’s also shown a lack of regard for the optics of leadership.

Authorities charged Drew Peterson -- a former Illinois cop convicted of murdering his third wife and the prime suspect in his fourth wife's disappearance -- with trying to hire a hit man to kill the lead prosecutor in his ex-wife's murder trial.
Attorney General Lisa Madigan and Randolph County State's Attorney Jeremy R. Walker on Monday filed a two-count criminal information against 61-year-old Peterson, charging him with one count of solicitation of murder for hire and one count of solicitation of murder, both Class X felonies.
The charges allege that between September 2013 and December 2014, Peterson plotted to hire a hit man to kill Will County State's Attorney James Glasgow, the prosecutor who led the 2012 trial that resulted in Peterson being convicted of killing his third wife, Kathleen Savio.

Psychiatric Fraud Case Unsealed in Illinois

Illinois Medicaid Fraud Case Using PsychRights' Model Complaint Unsealed

The Law Project for Psychiatric Rights (PsychRights®) announces the unsealing of the first Medicaid Fraud case for prescribing psychiatric drugs to children and youth by someone other than PsychRights using PsychRights' model Qui Tam Complaint.

United States ex rel Linda Nicholson v. Lilian Spigelman, M.D., Hephzibah Children's Association, and Sears Pharmacy, was filed in Illinois by attorney S. Randolph Kretchmar as a result of PsychRights' Medicaid Fraud Initiative Against Psychiatric Drugging of Children & Youth.

Ms. Nicholson's daughter was given psychiatric drugs that were not for a "medically accepted indication," constituting Medicaid Fraud.

"The evidence is overwhelming that these drugs prescribed to children and youth are ineffective, even counterproductive, and extremely harmful to children, said PsychRights' president, Jim Gottstein.

Mr. Kretchmar, the attorney handling the case said, "People need to wake up to the huge amount of harm these prescribing practices are inflicting on our children. I am very pleased to follow the lead of PsychRights in addressing this problem and hope through this lawsuit we can help bring the practice to a halt."

Jim Gottstein continued, "People should expect more of these cases until this pervasive type of Medicaid Fraud stops. The Nicholson case is the first of such cases brought by someone other than PsychRights.”

The lawsuit is brought under the federal False Claims Act, which authorizes private parties to bring fraud actions on behalf of the United States Government and share in the recovery, if any.

Honest Barack Knows Nothing

Honest Barack Knows Nothing

It is very amusing how Republicans see only corruption of Democrats and the Democrats only see corruption of Republicans. They believe that their own politicians do not lie, only the opposition politicians. This is classic denial and stupidity among the voters. How can anyone believe what any politician says or does is on the up and up. Obama especially is a pol from Chicago and is a Harvard lawyer. Barney Frank, Eliot Spitzer, Franklin Raines and Marc Dreier (charged with $380 million fraud and criminal impersonation) are all Harvard lawyers. As Howie Carr (Boston Radio Talk Show host says of the Massachusetts legislature) "Nothing on the level. Everything's a deal. No deal too small." If Obama had nothing to do with the Blagojevich scandal why is he playing CYA instead of expressing outrage as any concerned citizen is doing?
