Federal Agents Make Major Arrest in Boston, Seize 70 Weapons

Dozens of gang members from New England were pulled into custody early this morning in a massive sweep that cleared weapons, drugs and dangerous criminals off the streets, according to state and federal authorities.
“This is the culmination of a 14-month investigation that targeted high-ranking members and associates of several gangs - most in Boston, but as far-reaching as New Hampshire and Rhode island,” U.S Attorney Carmen Ortiz said this morning at the John Joseph Moakley U.S. Courthouse.
Members of the massive 18th Street Gang, the East Side Money Gang and the Boylston Gang were arrested in an early morning campaign that saw 400 state, federal and local law enforcement officers bring down 40 gang associates, according to authorities. One gang member was arrested this afternoon, and three others members were already in custody before this morning’s raid, according to authorities.
The suspects face a variety of state and federal charges, including federal RICO conspiracy charges stemming from an attempted murder, according to prosecutors. They stand accused of running a huge network that pumped guns and drugs throughout eastern Massachusetts.

There are 22 accused gang members who are fugitives from justice, but that number is expected to change as law enforcement tracks them down, according Ortiz’s office. The gangs involved in the bust hail from Chelsea, Brockton, Malden, East Boston, Revere and Everett, according to authorities.

Throughout the course of the investigation, more than 70 guns were taken off the street, authorities said. Many of the weapons had their serial numbers removed, according to law enforcement officers.

Cambridge visitors can rest easy knowing that gang members can live in, but not conduct business within the city. They must respect the peace. So it was (mostly) with the Tsarnaev brothers, and now two members from MS-13. The recent shooting in Brookline involved a Cambridge man. Are residents of other cities safe when Cambridge men visit their cities? No mention of traditional organized crime families. Are we supposed to believe, since James Bulger was arrested, all bookies, drug dealers and extortionists evaporated in the Boston area. Is Cambridge a city closed to crime families? In the film The Usual Suspects, Kevin Spacey reveals that the greatest lie the devil ever told was that he did not exist. Is that what's going on here?

Tennessee High School Teen Shot Dead Trying To Protect Three Girls

"[He] was very well liked by his peers and his teachers," Fulton High football coach Rob Black said during a news conference today. "This was a fine, fine young man. ... I want to try to continue to celebrate the life that he had [and] the impact he had on his peers."
At the news conference, Knoxville Police Department Chief David Rausch choked back tears at one point as he detailed the Thursday night shooting that killed the 15-year-old sophomore and football player at Fulton High School. Rausch said that Dobson had been trying to shield three girls from the barrage of gunfire.
"Unfortunately, they picked a random group of young men and women who were just hanging out and trying to prepare to celebrate the holiday," he said of the shooters.

Raush said that around 7:18 p.m. Thursday police responded to a call about shots being fired in a home. Inside the house, which had been struck by gunfire multiple times, police found a 46-year-old woman as well as a 10-year-old child. Raush said the woman, Lisa Perry, had been shot more than once in her lower back. She was hospitalized. The child was not injured.
Several hours later, around 10:12 p.m., Brandon Perry, Lisa Perry's 23-year-old son, and "several additional males" then drove to a different area and allegedly "randomly fired multiple times" at a group of young adults, including Dobson. Dobson was struck and killed. No other injuries were reported.

Rausch said authorities believed there was a connection between the shootings and gangs.
"This is a very active investigation. ... We know all three of the incidents that happened overnight are connected," he said. "There were multiple individuals out there."
Later today, police announced that a suspect has been arrested in connection with the three overnight shootings.

The mother of a murdered 9-year-old Chicago boy is fighting back against accusations that she used online donations meant for her son’s burial to purchase a new car.
Karla Lee, 26, admitted using the money donated through GoFundMe to buy the car, but said her son would have wanted her to be safe and a car helps, Fox32 reported Saturday.

“This don’t make no sense,” she says in the 60-second video. “I am so tired of y’all social media and y’all Facebook people bashing me. Y’all don’t even know me. I was the best mother I was to my son.”
Her son, Tyshawn Lee, was shot and killed Monday after being lured into an alley on the city’s South Side in what police say was an “absolutely hateful” killing motivated by his father’s alleged gang affiliations.
Early Sunday, a makeshift memorial for the boy in the alley was destroyed in a fire, the Chicago Sun-Times reported.

Lee purchased a 2015 Chrysler 200, WLS-TV reported Sunday. Lee told the station she used her own money to make the down payment.
She told the station the trouble started when the dealership where she bought the car posted her purchase on Facebook without her knowledge. The post has been deleted.

A massive brawl that erupted outside an eastern Pennsylvania high School Thursday has left four police officers injured and landed three teenagers in jail.
Police say Allentown officers were responding to reports of a large group of students fighting in the street at around 3pm two blocks from William Allen High School.
They found about 200 teenagers gathered in the area of 12th and Chew streets.
As the cops attempted to break up pockets of fighting, some of the brawlers turned on them.
A 30-second cellphone video that was posted on Facebook shows a uniformed female officer being knocked to the ground.
As the fracas continues, the female cop runs in pursuit of a teenage girl, who flees from her and runs around a parked police cruisers.
Moments later, the same female officer is seen on the ground again, with a young woman in a grey sweatshirt punching her.
All the while, the fighting is accompanied by a roar from a crowd of spectators following the action.

At his sentencing, Pagett pointedly mentioned the suspected snitch’s name in open court. “Just five days later, on Sunday, January 4, 2009, Nashwad Johnson was found shot to death in Atlanta, Georgia,” the filing states.
Pagett’s alleged victim in the hookah bar killing had been shot on several prior occasions and had been arrested 10 times since 2010, cops said.

Cortnie shared a series of photos with her post, featuring Gavin with a swollen, bruised face that she said was the aftermath of a group of kids talking about how it was "'weird' that Gavin is always by himself, attending events alone and watching people, and it was 'creepy' how he wanted to be friends with people he didn’t know.”

Since 2010, the group, known on the street as "the Point," has been considered the most powerful gang in Boston, U.S. Attorney Carmen Ortiz said. She said the gang was largely run by four families. Members of each of the families were among those indicted Thursday.
An FBI affidavit filed in court said the gang expanded its drug trafficking business through southern Massachusetts, New Hampshire and Maine.
As the drug business grew, members of the gang promoted the gang's notoriety by creating record labels under the names "8 Bus Records" and the "Waterboyz." The FBI said the gang used the record labels to promote rap shows, occasionally demanding that visiting artists pay "protection fees" to perform in Boston. They also produced videos showcasing their luxury vehicles, expensive jewelry and guns.
Vincent Lisi, special agent in charge of the Boston FBI office, said authorities believe the gang has contributed to the heroin epidemic the region has been grappling with for the past few years. Authorities said the gang sold large quantities of heroin, cocaine, crack and oxycodone throughout Boston and Maine.

The three are accused of approaching the girl and a male friend at a Brentwood middle school at about 6 p.m.
They allegedly robbed and beat the friend, who then fled the scene.
The trio then allegedly told the girl they had a weapon and forced her to walk about a half-mile to a secluded area of the Brentwood Country Club golf course.
It was there, prosecutors said, that Cornejo and Escobar raped the girl while Larios acted as a lookout.
She was later found walking out of the woods nearly naked by golfers, who called police.
Attorneys for the suspects said their clients were high school students, but Assistant District Attorney Lawrence Opisso disputed that, saying he did not believe any of the three attended school.
Spota said police identified Cornejo as one of the suspects because the victim gave investigators a detailed description of a tattoo he has on his chin.
The prosecutor described the tattoo as skull adorned with flames.
Escobar and a fourth man - also a suspected MS-13 gang member - were charged with robbing and beating a man on April 28 at the same middle school. Escobar was also charged with threatening the victim with violence if he reported the incident to police.

Instead, they’re simply relying on crowbars, chains and stolen cars to snatch the doors off the money machines — sometimes in front of witnesses in broad daylight — to the amazement of embarrassed cops who still can’t catch them.
They then position stolen cars in the area to thwart responding officers as they make their getaway.
Each theft has netted the gang between $1,300 and nearly $12,000, sources told The Post.
The group has struck dozens of times in bodegas, laundromats, pizzerias and gas stations in every borough but Staten Island — prompting NYPD brass to chastise detectives in a recent CompStat meeting for failing to nail them, the sources said.

Who is imitating who? In The United States it appears that gangs control the U.S. government, not just schools.

What can be said is that, just as they control most of the neighborhoods of Tegucigalpa, street gangs rule over most public schools in the capital. Gangsters are students and students are gangsters, as are some of their parents. The gangs lay claim to buildings with graffiti, and monitor the movements of police who are trying to monitor them. When the government sends in the military to retake a neighborhood and its schools, the ruling gang may lay low for a time, but they can't stay quiet for long or competitors will move in, setting off a wave of violence.
"The schools are a base of organization for the gangs, and the point through which all children in the neighborhood pass," said Lt. Col. Santos Nolasco, spokesman for the joint military and police force in charge of security in the country of 8.2 million people.
Gangs rely on kids to do much of their illegal grunt work, knowing that even if they get caught, they won't face long jail sentences.

In many schools, the power of the gangs is omnipresent and once a gang takes control of a school, Ruiz said, the teacher has no choice but to get along with the gangsters, or ask to be moved. If a gang grabs a child from a classroom, most teachers know to keep quiet, even if the student is never heard from again.

Only about a third of Honduran school children live with two parents, according to administrators. Many of their parents have headed north to look for work in the United States, while others have been killed or simply left the household. Many students don't have enough to eat, or work for several hours before and after school to help support their families. They are surrounded by violence in a country with the world's highest homicide rate.

Boston Policeman Pleads Guilty To Sharing Police Files With Gang Member

The former Boston gang cop charged with lying to the FBI when they questioned him about looking up a license plate number to an undercover police car for a gang member is expected to plead guilty in December.
Mel Steele, 36, is planning to plead guilty to one count of lying to the FBI on Dec. 1, according to a filing in U.S. District Court in Boston.
Steele worked in the Youth Violence Strike Force from 2007 to 2011, police said. He was assigned to Jamaica Plain’s Area E-13 station until, officials said, he resigned Oct. 17.

His annual pay was $72,000.
According to the FBI, Steele was friends with a member of the Academy Homes street gang known for drug dealing and its violent feuds with a gang from Heath Street.
“Steele allegedly used his BPD computer to run a license plate check on a vehicle which was later determined to be a unmarked BPD vehicle who was conducting surveillance on (Academy),” according to court documents.

It’s the disturbing video that’s been posted all over the Internet: a 17-year-old Baltimore County girl violently beaten and robbed by a group of girls on Tuesday.
“They punched her, they kicked her and mostly they stomped her in the head,” the victim’s mother said.
The victim’s mother, who didn’t want to be identified, says the group that attacked her daughter is part of the “Sisterhood” gang.
“I just think something really needs to be done about these gangs because every time we turn the TV on, it’s another gang after somebody else’s child,” the victim’s mother said.

The teen that was beaten suffered serious swelling to her face and was hospitalized overnight.
The suspects stole the girl’s cell phone, her coat and money.
