Name Changes of Cambridge, MA Nightclub. Violence Continues

Report omits the frequent evenings of blocked sidewalks preventing non bar patrons from walking along a public way. On one occasion a police officer had to make a path. The solution is to name the club Nuclear War and Peace Commission. Cambridge's has prevented nuclear war in Cambridge and Somerville since 1986. Check it out!

Apple And Samsung Suppliers in China Replace 60,000 Workers With Robots; McDonald's, ADIDAS Too

[From article]
Apple and Samsung supplier Foxconn has reportedly replaced 60,000 factory workers with robots.
One factory has "reduced employee strength from 110,000 to 50,000 thanks to the introduction of robots", a government official told the South China Morning Post.
Xu Yulian, head of publicity for the Kunshan region, added: "More companies are likely to follow suit."
China is investing heavily in a robot workforce.
[. . .]
"We are applying robotics engineering and other innovative manufacturing technologies to replace repetitive tasks previously done by employees, and through training, also enable our employees to focus on higher value-added elements in the manufacturing process, such as research and development, process control and quality control.
[. . .]
Economists have issued dire warnings about how automation will affect the job market, with one report, from consultants Deloitte in partnership with Oxford University, suggesting that 35% of jobs were at risk over the next 20 years.
Former McDonald's chief executive Ed Rensi recently told the US's Fox Business programme a minimum-wage increase to $15 an hour would make companies consider robot workers.
"It's cheaper to buy a $35,000 robotic arm than it is to hire an employee who is inefficient, making $15 an hour bagging French fries," he said.

A former McDonald's CEO warned that robots will take over staff jobs at the fast food empire - because it's cheaper than employing humans.
Ed Rensi has said that buying highly skilled robotics is a cheaper alternative than employing people on minimum wage to work in the company's worldwide restaurants.
He warned that huge job losses are imminent, and commented that it would be 'common sense' to replace humans in the workplace.

Adidas is relocating some of its shoe production from Asia to the company's homeland — but Germans shouldn't expect a jobs boom.
What is currently done by hand will soon be carried out by robots as part of what the firm calls an "automated revolution."
The sportswear giant unveiled its prototype "Speedfactory" on Tuesday — a 3,000-square-foot, high-tech facility in the southern German town of Ansbach.
The first 500 robot-made high-performance running shoes are scheduled to be rolled out later this year.
"We believe that this is pioneer work for a fully automated production process," Adidas spokesman Jan Runau told NBC News, adding that the facility will mean the firm "will be able to get the desired product to the customer much faster."
[. . .]
A 50,000-square-foot "Speedfactory" is due to be finished in Ansbach by the end of 2016. A second is expected to open in the U.S. next year while a third is also in the pipeline, according to Adidas.

Sixteen Killed In Cairo, Egypt Fire Bombing

[From article]
Two men who were denied entry to a nightclub later returned with others and firebombed it early Friday, setting off a blaze that killed all 16 people who were trapped inside by the smoke and flames, authorities said.
Terrorism was quickly ruled out as the cause of the attack at the El Sayad restaurant and club in Cairo's Agouza district.
Police were searching for six people suspected in the attack, which occurred after two of them were not allowed to enter the club, said Interior Ministry spokesman Abu Bakr Abdel-Karim.
After the two were refused entry, they "went and drank alcohol somewhere else," then brought four others with them, arriving on three motorcycles about 6 a.m., Abdel-Karim said. "They then threw a Molotov cocktail at the entrance of the place." No one who was inside the club survived,

White Appreciation Day In Colorado Brings Eager Customers

Appreciating white people is as dangerous as questioning Sharia law. This is only a day, not a month as other groups get. So it is still unequal appreciation.

[From article]
“We’re all the same,” he said. “It’s only in more recent years that we’ve got everybody separated. So if this is bringing everybody together, it’s a good thing.”
[. . .]
“What I’ve learned is that a lot more people understand what we’re trying to do,” Mr. Antillon said. “There’s still a lot racial tension, but people understand that we’re all Americans, we all need to live together and just work together as Americans, and love and respect each other.”
[. . .]

Edgar Antillion, Entrepeneur

The mood at the restaurant was upbeat — Mr. Antillon promised a 10 percent discount to all customers in celebration of White Appreciation Day — but there was also tension, given that the owners had received anonymous bomb and death threats leading up to the event.
A police bomb-sniffing dog swept the area and the restaurant before it opened, and Milliken police officers, augmented by several from the Colorado Mounted Rangers, patrolled the area on foot.[. . .]
Mr. Antillon has been accused mainly on social media of being racist, but he said the idea behind White Appreciation Day was to create an event for whites similar to Black Appreciation Month and Hispanic Heritage Month.
He said the idea started as a joke. He and Mr. Jiminez were sitting at the restaurant talking about how there’s no White History Month, and decided to do something about it.

Pregnant Houston Woman Fired For Refusing To Pay For Money Robbed at Popeye's Fast Food

Marissa Holcomb
Photo: KHOU

[From article]
The pregnant Popeyes manager, who was fired less than 36 hours after a robbery, has been offered her job back.
Marissa Holcomb, who is a mother of three with a fourth child on the way, had a meeting with Z & H Foods owner Amin Dhanani on Wednesday, a day after our original story aired of her firing.
"He just apologized and pretty much offered me if I wanted to go back to his business and work there again," she said.
Holcomb says she was originally terminated because she refused to pay back money that was stolen during a robbery March 31. Dhanani argued she was fired because she broke policy multiple times by leaving too much money in the register.
[. . .]
"I told them I'm not paying nothing," Holcomb said, who said she was fired because she refused to pay the money back. "I just had a gun to me, I'm not paying the money."
Surveillance video shows a man run into the restaurant with a beanie over his face while waving a gun. He forced all employees to the floor, then turned his attention to Holcomb.
"By the back of my shirt, he pulled me up and he pushed me to the front," she said. "He told me to give him everything out of my safe."
But the only thing she could open were the registers.
Holcomb claimed after the robbery one of her managers gave her an ultimatum: Pay the money back or lose her job.
"I don't think it's right because now I'm struggling for my family because what I had to do to keep my life," she said.

Homeless New York Man Beats Hotels, Restaurants For Thousands of Dollars

Isa Bako
Photo: Instrgram
[From article]
A homeless man conned his way into weeklong stays at two Manhattan hotels — including the Algonquin — sleeping in luxury and feasting on cuisine from Tao restaurant, law enforcement sources told The Post.
Isa Bako, 33 — a broke celebrity-hanger-on and former model whose goal was to put on a fashion show featuring his hats on naked models — first pampered himself for eight days at the Courtyard Marriott on West 37th Street, sources said.
He racked up more than $2,000 in bills at the hotel — including for food deliveries from upscale Tao — using stolen credit card information, authorities say.
The drifter moved to The Algonquin Hotel on West 44th Street, where he allegedly spent five days using credit card info swiped from another victim, a 49-year-old Dallas businessman.
[. . .]
Bako was hit with identity theft charges and remains at Rikers Island on $30,000 bail. His next Manhattan Criminal Court hearing is set for March 3.
He is accused of committing the fraud between Oct. 24, 2013, and Nov. 7, 2013, sources said.
His lawyer, Brian Kennedy, declined to comment.
The Wisconsin-born Bako claims a pal from Nigeria, where his parents are from, gave him the credit card information, sources said.

NYC Man With Long Arrest Record Charged With Violent Rape

Cops arrested Ricardo Lambert and charged him with first-degree attempted rape in a brutal attack on October 3. Police had said previously they were looking for the man pictured (inset).
Photo: Google Maps; NYPD (inset)

Here's another thoughtful young man who took time from his busy schedule to train a woman how not to leave a rest room in a New York City restaurant. Though he has a long arrest record for violent crimes, and is known to police no one was watching this gentle person. Unlike academic Massachusetts which has differing public safety priorities. Among them is keeping 24/7 surveillance and harassment of a 70-year-old white man who survived 44 years of government criminal abuses. In Massachusetts they call on  local police employees, crime family associates, FBI informants, Communists and Harvard University campus police employees. They take turns disturbing the sleep of the elder man every one or two hours every day, and remote tampering with his computer to cause it to crash every one or two minutes for about an hour at a time. When the man petitions the billion dollar human services protection professionals the police or crime families bring out brutal psychologists and psychiatrists to increase the abusive harassment trying to provoke violence. When they are exposed by chance, the recurring pattern is to cover up the 44 years of government crimes by declaring, "He's starting a new life." The problem with that is all of the crime families and police do not permit him to start a new life and continue the criminal abuses, without protection. For 44 years FBI and police broadcast one consistent (among many alternating) element of slander to discredit the abuse victim stating "He's crazy." But also "He's a homosexual." That permits police and assorted sociopaths to express their animosity toward the vulnerable man. It shows how depraved the current public officials are that they are aware of the abuse and stand by and watch. Public safety resources are focused on harassing harmless civilians while violent thugs like the accused rapist below is allowed to roam free continuing his criminal campaign.

[From article]
A violent pervert with a lengthy criminal record was arrested in a brutal attempted rape at a crowded Hell’s Kitchen nightspot, police said.
Ricardo Lambert, 34, who lives on West 50th street in Manhattan, was charged Saturday with first-degree attempted rape after the 34-year-old victim identified him out of a lineup as her attacker.
He allegedly jumped the 34-year-old woman as she left the bathroom at Flaming Saddles Bar on 9th Avenue at 10:35 p.m. on Oct. 3. He choked her into unconsciousness then ran off with her underwear when bar security stepped in to halt the sick attack, cops said.
The victim – who didn’t know her attacker – was taken to a nearby hospital.
The suspect was caught on surveillance footage walking up stairs inside the bar.
Lambert has been arrested about two dozen times for crimes ranging from assault and forcible touching to trespassing, police said.

NJ AG Charges Newark, NJ Restaurant Used For Money Laundering

The PortuCale Restaurant & Bar in Newark, New Jersey

[From article]
A popular Portuguese restaurant secretly served as the base of a $400 million money-laundering operation tied to the Genovese organized crime family, New Jersey officials charged Tuesday.
The PortuCale Restaurant & Bar in Newark’s Ironbound section allegedly let customers cash hefty checks without requiring identification or filing currency transaction reports mandated by the feds, allowing the customers to hide income or get money for “under-the-table” payrolls.
Owner Abel Rodriguez — whose eatery boasts four stars on the web rating site Yelp — charged fees of up to 3 percent for the illegal service, which generated more than $9 million in profits over four years, according to acting New Jersey Attorney General John Hoffman.

Minimum Wages Hurt Small Businesses

[From article]
“If the restaurant suddenly has to pay for something it didn’t have to pay before, one way to cover that cost is to raise menu prices,” Kevin Connelly says. “So we are probably going to have to pay more for that shrimp.”
And that, says Eve Connelly, will have a ripple effect. Higher prices mean people go out less often, which means less in tips for the wait staff at Leonardo’s II. “I wonder if this is something the politicians understand,” she says.
[. . .]
"What I keep trying to drive home is that we are forced into paying costs we never had to cover before in addition to the minimum wage increase that is already in motion,” he says. “This will cripple the restaurant industry. This is especially true for start-ups and other borderline businesses operating at the margins.”
[. . .]
“This is an easy issue to demagogue,” he says. “If this bill does go through it will mean higher consumer costs and less business in restaurants, which works to the disadvantage of the very workers the politicians say they are trying to help.”
