Academic Upper Class Privileges, Funded By Taxpayers

[From article]
Like almost all other Massachusetts public university and college leaders, Keith Motley is entitled to a housing allowance or house, a car, and free tuition for himself and his family members, and can cash in all of his unused vacation days and 20 percent of any unused sick days on retirement.
If the University of Massachusetts Boston chancellor leaves his job, he’d still be eligible for a one-year sabbatical at his full annual salary of $355,059. Then he’s guaranteed a position on the faculty, if he wants one, at a minimum of $280,000 a year. If Motley were to be fired without cause? The university would have to pay him up to one year’s wages.
"That sounds absolutely ridiculous," said Daniel Baxter, a sophomore from Somerville majoring in information technology at UMass. "For doing nothing for a year? That’s insane in any industry."
[. . .]
These benefits are common on American campuses. More than 60 percent of presidents at public and private colleges get all or part of their housing provided, for example, and 75 percent get cars or car allowances, according to the College and University Professional Association for Human Resources. In Massachusetts, almost all of them get both.
[. . .]
But the idea that good candidates won’t apply for college presidencies without generous incentives is hard to prove, said Saranna Thornton, a labor economist at Hampden-Sydney College in Virginia.

Diversity Officer At Public University Earns More Than Congressmen, Governors

City of Cambridge, MA has two diversity officers. I asked one what they did. She explained that they talk to employees who are are upset with the way they are treated by colleagues. But the city has a human rights commission and the state has a Commission Against Discrimination which also hears from citizens of the state who do not like the way they are treated. So why do some people get extra special treatment when others must just go through regular channels. Is it the same reason why college women who report they were raped want special treatment because the usual police, prosecutors and hospitals who are all specially trained by taxpayers to collect evidence for rape victims? More waste of taxpayer funds.

[From article]
The recently tapped chief diversity officer at Northern Illinois University will make $205,000 a year – a $185,000 salary and $20,000 in allowances and expenses – collecting more than 99 percent of U.S. Congress members and all U.S. governors.
In an email to The College Fix, a spokesman for the public university confirmed Vernese Edghill-Walden’s compensation package of $205,000 annually, and defended the remuneration as a good use of taxpayer dollars.

Cambridge, MA, Official Fined $58 thousand, What Howie Carr Calls Licking The Plate

$58 K fine, his investment for a return maybe up to $1.5 million. Not bad. Working in Arlington too? How much did he earn there? Plus two taxpayer funded pensions? Journalists, politicians and their appointees, remain focused on same sex marriage, global warming, racism, diversity, censoring protected speech. No wonder taxpayers are clueless.

Katie Couric To Receive $10 million Per Year At Yahoo

[From article]
Veteran newscaster Katie Couric is renewing her Yahoo! contract where she will remain as its global news anchor.
Couric, 58, who had been negotiating the contract for the last few months, was reportedly earning $5-6 million prior to the renewed deal which will up her annual pay package to $10 million, according to the New York Post.
The new deal, which has been agreed to by both parties but not yet been finalized, also has some targets she must hit to reach the $10 million pay package, the report said.[. . .]
She worked at CBS Evening News until 2011, while also doing segments for 60 Minutes, a job that earned her a reported salary of $15 million a year, the most ever for a journalist at the time.
Her most famous interview came in 2008 when she sat down with vice presidential candidate Sarah Palin for a series of pieces that many believed doomed Palin and McCain's campaign.

Fat Cat Union Boss Paid $500,000 for Ten Months Work

[From article]
Former United Food and Commercial Workers executive vice president Bill McDonough was paid $544,137 last year despite leaving the union in October.
Working as the collective bargaining director at UFCW headquarters in Washington, D.C., McDonough received a gross salary of $378,606 plus $3,000 in “allowances,” $88,851 for official business and $73,680 in other disbursements, based on the union’s 2014 report to the U.S. Department of Labor.
UFCW classified 80 percent of McDonough’s time as representational activity, which means his pay came both from member dues and mandatory “agency fees” UFCW takes from nonmembers in states without right-to-work laws.
[. . .]
Mandatory union fees taken from nonmembers cannot legally be spent on political activity, but UFCW agency fee payers were forced to subsidize activist groups the union paid for “representational” activities.
[. . .]
Meanwhile, Catalist — a data consulting firm accused of illegal campaign coordination with hundreds of Democratic campaigns — received $706,600 in UFCW political expenditures.
According to The Center for Responsive Politics, UFCW spent over $10 million on political campaign contributions and independent campaign expenditures during the 2014 election cycle.
“We have long known that Big Labor is one of the largest political actors out there, so there is no real surprise in seeing where the money goes or how much is in the system,” Greg Lawson, a policy analyst for Ohio’s free-market Buckeye Institute for Public Policy Solutions, told Watchdog via email.
“It is unfortunate that all too much political rhetoric seems to point the finger only at ‘Big Business’ while ignoring Big Labor,” Lawson added.
[. . .]
The union demands government create “economic justice” by forcing wealthy corporate executives to pay low-skill workers a $15 minimum wage — but UFCW bosses’ salaries come directly from workers’ paychecks.
To the extent UFCW has increased pay and benefits for workers at grocery stores and retailers nationwide, higher costs are often passed on to wealthy and low-income customers alike.

Cost and Benefits Of College Degrees Need Detailed Explanation

[From article]
But they can’t do that, so families have to spend a quarter of a million dollars to give their kids the parchment equivalent of an IQ score. High school kids who get into good schools should present employers with their college acceptance letters and skip the going-to-college part.
Republicans need to force colleges to issue reports, just like drug companies, attesting to the average cost, and the average salary, for every degree. It will cost you $160,000 to receive a degree in Spanish literature and will take you 88 years to pay that back.
Trust Ann — liberals will go wild. That’s how you’ll know you’ve struck gold.
[. . .]
According to the colleges, their graduates are going to earn all sorts of money! At least that’s what they say when they’re conning teenagers into taking out colossal student loans.
[. . .]

Going after Big Education is all upside for the GOP. College professors and administrators already vote 98 percent for the Democrats. In fact, it’s a triple-play for Republicans: They would punish a liberal constituency, strike a blow against the principal vehicle of liberal indoctrination in America, and the middle class will love it.

Politicians, You Get What You Pay For

[From article]
government officials in prison, either currently or in recent times. Among them were a mayor of New Orleans, a mayor of Detroit and a mayor of Washington; a governor of Connecticut, a governor of Louisiana, two governors of Illinois and four members of Congress.
However much these and other government officials may have richly deserved being behind bars, the country does not deserve to have its confidence in government repeatedly undermined. A country with 100 percent cynicism about its government cannot be governed. And nobody wants anarchy.
In short, the damage done by government officials who betray the public's trust goes far beyond the money stolen or misused, or whatever particular abuse of power landed them behind bars.
[. . .]
public confidence is much easier to maintain than it is to repair.
[. . .]
Cheap politicians turn out to be very expensive politicians, in the way they waste money, even if they are not stealing it.
We could pay every member of Congress a million dollars a year — for a whole century — for less than it costs to run the Department of Agriculture for one year.
The least we can do is make it harder to bribe them.

Robert Reich, $240,000 for One Course On Income Inequality, Huh?

Robert Reich, Clinton Labor Secretary, Professor At U. CA Berkeley

[From article]
Former Clinton Labor Secretary Robert Reich earns a whopping $240,000 each year from the University of California-Berkeley for teaching a single class about the terrible, destructive thing that is income inequality, reports the Washington Free Beacon.
Like Hillary Clinton, he also charges boatloads of cash to deliver speeches — As much as $100,000, to be exact — while simultaneously preaching about the “crisis” of income inequality.
[. . .]
“What someone is paid has little or no relationship to what their work is worth to society,” asserted Reich in the blog entry.
One wonders what he might say when asked to apply that logic to his own life and fortune.

Obama's Faith Based NGOs, Have Little Faith Outside Of Money

[From article]
President Obama - Hello, everybody. I just had a good meeting with Governor Perry, local officials, and faith leaders to talk about the steps that we have taken and that we need to take to address the humanitarian situation on the border. And I want to thank everybody who’s been involved for taking the time to talk to me.
[. . .]
But there’s a problem, none of them are religion based organizations. None of them have churches. None of them have congregations or parishioners’.
They are the heads of government funded non-profits. Remember ACORN? Same/Same.
[. . .]
We recently stumbled upon Mr. Kevin Dinnin when we were looking around for the primary recipients’ of HHS Grants and we came upon the 2012 tax filings of BCFS, or more accurately BCFS EMD where Kevin Dinnin is the principal officer and CEO. Paid at an annual salary of $477,799+
This one group alone makes ACORN seem small ball in comparison.
Two days before this meeting with President Obama, on 7/7/14 Mr. Dinnin was given a grant from Health and Human Services in the amount of $190,707,505.

Threat of Strike At NYC Metropolitan Opera

[From article]
While each side in the imbroglio lambasts the other as unrealistic, both the Met’s management and its unions are out of touch with today’s realities. On June 16, the Met released its latest tax filings. Gelb earned $1.8 million in pay and benefits in 2012. Granted, Gelb has since taken a modest pay cut, and his 2012 salary represented some one-time payouts. Yet a salary in excess of $1 million a year underscores the unreality of Gelb’s leadership. And Gordon claims that Gelb plans to keep his full-time Met chauffeur.

Peter Gelb

But similar profligacy reigns on the union side. The Met’s tax filings reveal that three of the house’s five top-paid employees are members of Local 1 of the International Alliance of Theatrical Stage Employees—stagehands whocommand pay and benefits in excess of $450,000 a year. Even Gordon’s beloved choristers, the 80 or so full-time employees who perform many nights behind the headline stars, take home an estimated $300,000 in annual pay and benefits. These are hardly proletarian sums, and the numbers are hard to justify to a millennial generation still suffering the job-market fallout of the financial crisis.

Clinton Child Paid $600,000 a Year by NBC

[From article]
Chelsea Clinton earned an annual salary of $600,000 at NBC News before switching to a month-to-month contract earlier this year, sources with knowledge of the agreement told POLITICO.
[. . .]
When Clinton joined NBC, many media critics chafed at the network’s decision to employ a former first daughter with no experience in journalism. The New York Post referred to Clinton as “just another spoiled, aimless child of rich, successful parents chauffeured through adulthood by Mommy and Daddy’s connections.”
Yet Clinton’s appointment did not mark the first time NBC Universal had hired children of high-ranking politicians. In 2009, it hired George W. Bush’s daughter Jenna Bush Hager to serve as a correspondent on the “Today” show. In 2011, it hired Sen. John McCain’s daughter Meghan McCain as a contributor on MSNBC.

Women Earning More Than Partners

[From review]
“Women are making bigger strides in the academic and professional worlds; they’re buying more property than men, starting businesses faster than men,” says the 34-year-old Torabi. According to Labor Department statistics out in March, 32 percent of 27-year-old women had a bachelor’s degree, while only 24 percent of men did. And a National Association of Realtors study in 2012 found that 18 percent of single women were homeowners compared to just 10 percent of men.
[. . .]
For Torabi, communication is absolutely key to the success of the female breadwinner, and she exhorts others to make it a priority. Power is not in who holds the paycheck, she says; it’s in the strength of how a couple works together to achieve their shared financial goals.

Liberal Economist Awarded $225 K at Public NY University

[From article]
So this publicly-funded university offered Paul Krugman $225k over nine months to essentially preside as a public face of its in-house institute that studies -- ahem -- income inequality. In exchange for the money, Krugman will provide his presence, play a "modest" role in CUNY public events, and "contribute to the build-up" of the initiative to combat -- ahem -- income inequality. Oh, and he'll host one solitary seminar. On top of his salary, the university will furnish the left-wing columnist and economist with $20,000 in fringe benefits, including travel expenses.

Illinois Judge, Declared Insane Wants Her Job Back

Cynthia Brim leaves the Daley Center after appearing at a court hearing in January of 2013.
(Terrence Antonio James/Chicago Tribune / March 28, 2014)

[From article]
For the first time in Illinois, attorneys on the case say, a judicial disciplinary panel has begun tackling the question of whether a judge whose psychotic episodes can apparently be controlled through medication should be allowed to return to the bench.
Judge Cynthia Brim, 55, testified before the Illinois Courts Commission for more than two hours on Friday in a bid to save her $182,000-a-year job. The seven-member panel – made up of judges from outside of Cook County as well as two citizens – will later issue a written decision.
Brim was found not guilty of misdemeanor battery by reason of insanity last year for shoving a sheriff’s deputy outside the Daley Center during a manic episode in March 2012. A day earlier, while on the bench, she broke into an extended rant while presiding over a traffic court call at the Markham courthouse.

Income Equality, Misguided Notion

[From article]
Though sports and Hollywood personalities earn multiples of CEO salaries, you'll never find leftists and progressives picketing and criticizing them. Why? The strategy for want-to-be tyrants is to demonize people whose power they want to usurp. That's the typical way tyrants gain power. They give the masses someone to hate. In 18th-century France, it was Maximilien Robespierre's promoting hatred of the aristocracy that led to his acquiring dictatorial power. In the 20th century, the communists gained power by promoting public hatred of the czars and capitalists. In Germany, Adolf Hitler gained power by promoting hatred of Jews and Bolsheviks.
[. . .]
promoting jealousy, fear and hate is an effective strategy for leftist politicians and their followers to control and micromanage businesses. It's not about the amount of money top executives earn. If it were, politicians and leftists would be promoting jealousy, fear and hatred toward multi-multimillionaire Hollywood actors, celebrities and sports stars. But there is no way that politicians could usurp the roles of Drew Brees, Kobe Bryant, Robert Downey Jr. and Oprah Winfrey. That means celebrities can make any amount of money they want and it matters not one iota politically. Do you think President Barack Obama would stoke the fires of hate and envy by remarking that he thinks that "at a certain point, you've made enough money" — as he did in a 2010 Quincy, Ill., speech — in regard to the salaries of Winfrey, Brees and Hollywood celebrities?

[From article]
"We elect people who have a good heart. Someone who can listen to your problems and look you in the eye," attorney Stanley Friedman said.
The scandal that rocked Bell raised the curtain on a fiefdom established by powerful former city manager Robert Rizzo. City records revealed that Rizzo had an annual salary and compensation package worth $1.5 million, making him one of the highest paid administrators in the country.
His salary alone was about $800,000 a year, double that of the president of the United States.
To fund his and other officials' salaries, prosecutors say, Rizzo masterminded a scheme to loot the treasury of $5.5 million. He and his assistant city manager, Angela Spaccia, face their own trial later in the year.
